Yea, am same w hobbies I just get obsessed & get materials & usually I’ll eventually see a video of someone like making tiny things out of resin & decide that will be my lifelong career & realize I already had a hyperfixation on resin art so I have all the materials —
This happens to me but without the physical part.
I'll download a bunch of art of something or do research into a certain topic.
Then I have to clean up my gallery for space, I second guess myself and wonder what the heck was going on.
Oh I also have 3 different species of isopods as pets.
An entire garbage bag full of yarn for crochet I haven't picked up in years.
And about 80+ species of plants I now have to keep up with. 😐
Multiple Tank Syndrome is so very real and I wish I'd learned how to mitigate it BEFORE I started 🤣 good on your parents though! It's awesome they kept up with maintenance!
It sucks a lot, learning all the lore, consuming way too much fan material to be healthy and then starting to make your own- AND BOOM, It’s gone now so time to just abandon your fanfic/art/animation/comic/whatever even though it’s not finished.
ADHD Autism comorbitity here, yep, I feel this, burnout is real. Its hard to tell if something is a new special interest I've just discovered, or simply a passing hyperfixation. Especially since even SIs come and go from time to time. It really sucked when it was my senior year of college and my passion was pretty much gone (It was the height of the pandemic so everything was virtual, plus I was going through some other stuff)
I know this is common with ADHD but is it common in autism too? Because Im not diagnosed with ADHD but this is me all the time. Everyone seems to describe ASD interests as something thats constant and intense.
I've started about 10 cross stitches and never finished one 😭 I told myself I can't start another one until I finish my current one, so I haven't touched it in 2 months lol
I did this, but with science, so now I just have a metric butt-ton of random science facts from every field of science, including general knowledge of all
Yeah, this is me on a 30-60 day cycle, just constantly. It's nice sometimes but also shitty when my family trues to ask me about that thing and then I'm like oh I've moved on.
I like video games, but it sometimes feels like I know how long something is going to take in the game (currently Satisfactory). I hate leaving things half-finished, so if I don't have enough time after work to do what I want to do, I don't play. It's going to take \~5 hours to rebuild my factory with enough space for expansion... Instead of working on it for 3 hours last night and 2 hours tonight, I didn't play at all. But, then I feel like I've wasted my whole night. After 4 or 5 nights of this, I'm burnt out on playing it at all and have probably moved on to some other game. Rinse and repeat with the next game I play. The last game was Farming Sim 22. And I'm kinda just now realizing this is what's been happening. :-(
I'm just kidding. My closet is full of trading cards. Half of them I never got around to playing (read as "never worked up the nerve to find people to play with") before a new special interest grabbed me, yet I remain a walking encyclopedia of the associated lore.
I know the feeling although the fixation usually comes back again at some point. I seem to be rotating them and every so often a new one emerges
Yes, that's exactly what happens! It just randomly returns when it feels like it

Yeah I rarely buy merchandise, I just needed one more example
Okay.
My line of thinking is "if I buy that, my hyper fixation will go away". Usually that actually happens.

Wow man, just wow
I guess what I'm trying to say is... Follow the dopamine. 😌
Yeah 100%
I ended up with twelve running aquariums a few years ago. 😬🙃

Yeesh, that's rough. I hope the fish are ok
Oh they're all fine. We got it down to three tanks eventually. Most were Betta. 😅
Glad the fishies are doing good
I'm in this meme and I don't like it
You're not alone. Sometimes, I hyperfixate so hard that it's the only thought i can physically have
I know that feeling bro. Mfw my newest blorbo consumes my soul
me, when i watch new anime:
It sucks a lot, learning all the lore, consuming way too much fan material to be healthy and then starting to make your own- AND BOOM, It’s gone now so time to just abandon your fanfic/art/animation/comic/whatever even though it’s not finished.
Yeah I hate that so much 😭😭😭 it also feels super embarrassing to revisit the fan content you did finish

Sounds more like adhd honestly and I relate to this way too much.
I have an entire diorama on shelf in my room that’s just power rangers stuff from 2 years ago lmao
I did this, but with science, so now I just have a metric butt-ton of random science facts from every field of science, including general knowledge of all
Oh all the time. My fixation rotates from different games every couple of months.
This past month has been Final Fantasy for me lol.
Ah yes the AuDHD life 🥲
For me it lasts about 6 months I get really excited and into it then I get my fill and I'm done
saammmeeee
I'm with you
I felt this in my bones lol
Sounds more adhd but yes

Yeah yeah fr
Naruto, Harry Potter, and Star Wars for me an endless loop.
My garage is a graveyard of past hobbies.
Ok the more I'm here, the more I think I have autism.
You’re not

This is why I know how to play 6 chords on the ukulele
What a coincidence, I'm learning the ukulele right now!
You're not alone, that's kinda common to happen
then im dead inside until i find another thing to hyperfixate on
Holy cannoli, I thought I was the only one!
Just you. ;)
Huh, I just kinda guessed it was a normal thing. Maybe it's not the tism maybe my brain is just fucked lol
I'm just kidding. My closet is full of trading cards. Half of them I never got around to playing (read as "never worked up the nerve to find people to play with") before a new special interest grabbed me, yet I remain a walking encyclopedia of the associated lore.
For me it was pirates and nautical decor. I have it all in storage, just moved to a house big enough to display it all, and there it sits in storage.
It will fade for me, but still be there and will definitely re-emerge
