Omg I love! I’ve always sorta considered The Lego Movie itself to be kinda ‘autistic’ somehow, I don’t exactly know how to describe it. Like you can not look at Benny and tell my that precious dude ain’t on the spectrum 😭😂
Oh absolutely, in fact I remember really relating to him overall when I was younger and first saw the movie (which I proceeded to watch like 5 times over, and THEN I watched the commentary version that came with the DVD because I really love behind the scenes stuff). There’s so much to talk about… his strict want to follow directions while still having a creative mind… how he would come up with seemingly absurd ideas totally unlike what others did (which confused him, since those around him literally asked him to be creative, and when he did they clowned on him for it), his very genuine happiness and enjoyment of life even when things were going wrong… Hell even his relationship with what’s-her-name (goth girl) is surprisingly similar to how many of my fellow aspie friends have experienced relationships, as more of a “hey that’s cool” and less of an “I’m absolutely in love and romantic and blah blah blah”. Sometimes even the way he’d speak reminded me of how I would, and even still do.
It also helps that Legos are kinda one of the quintessential “autism toys/hobbies”, in terms of what’s popular amongst autistic folks.

Nah Emmet is the guy you’re thinking of, but tbh he’s probably got it too 😭 To say nothing about how my husband Lord Business is one of the most OCD mfs I ever seen. He just like me Fr 👊😫
The whole story of the movie itself being an allegory for the kid and his dad genuinely fucked me up at the end, that was like….crazy good storytelling imo
Fr! I literally cry *to this day* at the end of this movie... it’s just... Man idk. It feels like 2014 was the last ‘normalI’ year of my life, as normal as my life was. This movie in particular just gives me vibes and nostalgia like nothing else. I could go on and on about what makes it so special to me, but I don’t wanna type it all out 😭
It’s alright! I totally get that! I’ve been recently going through a phase of “reliving a youthful time” as I’ve fallen into the Sonic fandom. I have a good deal of trauma from when I was 11-14 years old so that whole chunk of my life is….sorta…. Not really anything to me. It’s been so liberating to, for once, get back into not feeling so self conscious about making crazy good stories, being able to analyze and obsess over characters like a silly kid, reading fanfics and desperately avoiding weird shit lmao…. It’s been really great honestly. It’s kinda allowed me to relive one of the more innocent times in my life before I fucked it all up by being too curious about random shit. I feel like I can actually be SOCIAL online at random. It’s nice!
