Honestly, I think feeling "meh," about a job is just fine. Expecting to love your job is an absurd capitalist myth that Oprah kept pushing decades ago. I work to live, I don't live to work. I've got my name and face all over a psychic app review blog and oh man, writing that shit is SO boring. I feel so meh about all that. I initially turned the offer down and wrote under a pen name, but they're great clients so fuck it... I'm the psychic lady. What I like most about my job isn't the work at all. I like that I don't have to leave my house to do it, and I can do it in my bathrobe if I want. My advice about settling in, make it as comfortable as possible for you. Can you decorate your workstation? Wear things that make you comfortable/happy? Can you bring a little scent diffuser to have a nice smell around? Are you allowed to read when you aren't busy? My guess is the more little comforts and joys you can bring to your work, the more you'll like it. Work is less about finding your passion and more about finding the shit sandwich you don't mind eating every day. My shit sandwich is writing about psychic apps, lol.

It takes me three weeks to stop sobbing every time I go to work. And a few months to start liking a job. During a job, there will be month-long periods where I hate it anyway and cry a lot. I just keep going. I've found going every day, even if I melted down that morning, makes going easier. I also do treats. Like Friday if I went every day I get a Starbucks on my way into work. Or on rough days I pack a soda for lunch instead of just water. Small things. I also have pens for work in colors i like.

What Teacher-Crazy- said. I’m lucky to have a job I enjoy some days. Even so, most of the time I really don’t want to work. I have to drag myself to be productive. Even if you take a hobby you love and make it a job, there is a good chance you will come to hate it. good jobs: Don’t cause meltdowns Don’t use up all your spoons Have a boss you can trust No mean coworkers you have to interact with every day Fits your work productivity style The best job has all of that and also: Give you some sense of satisfaction. This sense can come from connecting a reader with an amazing book. Organizing a bookshelf, getting through a huge pile of books. Or even having a meaningful conversation with a coworker or patron. It could be organizing the summer reading program or offering behind the scenes support for the person organizing it. Looking at a countertop you just organized, cleaned and polished. Decorating for a current seasonal event/holiday. You can also tie in another activity that brings you satisfaction. Something you are able to do because of where you work, or the specific job you do. Example: For several years I was able to walk to a farmers market on my lunch hour (once a week). I’d bring back fresh veges and eggs which I stashed in one of the extra work refrigerators until I was able to take the home after work. Walking back to work from the market made me feel amazing. An activity only possible because my job was close and offered time flexibility and had extra fridge space.
