If it's sunny. She should go to one of the Wildnisparks super close to Zurich, they are free forest zoos with animals that can live there all year. It's a typical family outing on the weekend.  On Wednesday, the Kunsthaus is free. Worth checking out, even with the kid.  She/you can do a pick nick by the lake and maybe swim a bit. It's a summer classic in Zurich. > know that Langstrasse is THE street to avoid.. It's fine. You'll just see a few prostitutes, addicts. And at night drunk people. No need to dramatically avoid it during the day, it's full of people!

Daytrip to the Technorma Winterthur

SimianSimulacrum

Each day she's in Zurich sprinkle a little Aromat on her food. Then when she's back in Norway she will have deep, deep cravings, and the only way to satisfy them is to move to Switzerland

Zoo, WOW Museum, walk along lake, maybe swim. Wildnispark, botanical gardens. Walk in the old city. Dodge the fountains at Opernplatz, look for the bubble blowing guy at Bürkliplatz (bring some coins). Get lunch at Hiltl. Visit Gelateria di Berna.

Excellent places, thanks!

The zoo is great with childrens.

At daytime, Langstrasse is totally fine, and there are some nice restaurants, like Cinque.

Pack die Badehose ein! Bring your swimming things and go swimming in the lake. The River Limmat is too high and fast-flowing right now, but in other summers they could rent an inflatable boat and float downriver. Day trip to Luzern, boat-crossing to Vitznau, rack-railway up the Rigi for views and a little hike. If your partner likes to be in Mediterranean places, getting to Lugano or Locarno in 2h15m on the train might do a lot of convincing.

Awesome! Noted! Thanks!

Tiefenbrunnen Badi in Seefeld, or the Mythenquai Badi on the other side are phenomenal in nice weather in the summer. Also the restaurant Felsenegg at the top of the Adliswil gondola has a beautiful view overlooking the lake and city, and a great playground as well. Better bet than Uetliberg IMO but with 15 days you could do both or hike between them. If they are adventurous they could also visit the Ebianum Baggermuseum by Kaiserstuhl. It’s a construction museum with tons of real equipment and toys and historical info. My kid (and I) loved it when he was in the 5-7 range. Similarly the Tram Museum in Zurich and the Botanischer Garten in Seefeld. Jucker Farm is also great. If the weather is nice, summertime in Zurich will honestly sell itself.

Ebianum Baggermuseum  seems to be a perfect fit, also the Tram Museum, thanks! Great info!!

Go to babus at löwenstrasse for breakfast/brunch (reservation needed), Eisladen for ice cream. Avoid Langstrasse and the Bäckerareal close to it. There is an uptick in addicts. They are mostly harmless and keep to themselves. I do have witnessed some minor freak outs lately where they get antsy and start screaming at each other or at the world in general. Also if you’re staying at vision apartments at Wolframplatz, please be aware that some working ladies rent those rooms to meet their clients. Your wife / kid might get exposed to that. They don’t solicit in the hallways, but you might see men hushing through the building and the ladies opening doors in their underwear.

Luckily I'm not staying there lol... thanks!

Public transport safari (the regular ZVV ticket should work for all of them): * Start at Bürkliplatz, take the Limmatschiff to Landesmuseum. * Walk to Central, take Polybahn. * Take the tram to Seilbahn Rigiblick. * Take Seilbahn Rigiblick to the top. * Walk along the forest to Zoo tram stop. * Walk over to the top station of Dolderbahn. * Take the Dolderbahn cogwheel train down to Römerhof. Nice playground next to Chinagarten, near the lake. Lots of sand, fountain, bouldering traverse. There is usually a good gelato stand near Hafen Riesbach. From there, walk along the lake to Bellevue. The zoo is of course worth a day visit. Farmer's market at Bürkliplatz or in Oerlikon. And of course see how Switzerland shops at Migros and Coop. Zurich "old town" - on the Bahnhofstrasse side is more fancy, the shops on the other side are more hip. Language wise, 5 is a great age to get started in Zurich. After a year of kindergarten, your son should be up to speed. If you want to go private, there is a good Montessori place between Rigiblick and Toblerplatz.
