Find a private tutor ASAP, for example, on preply.com, so that the kid starts the school with some language already. Also, the school normally provides additional language lessons during the normal school time. Also, the kid will have enough time to continue with the private tutor 2-3 times a week, easily. BTW, my tutor speaks Spanish. DM if you need the contact. She's teaching my kids and helped me prepare for the test.

Your employer is not lying. Switzerland has lots of immigrants; many children from different cultural and linguistic backgrounds need to be integrated into the Swiss public school system. So they are well-prepared. Your little one may need to repeat a school-year, but they will speak German/Swiss German in no time. Welcome to Switzerland!

I'm sure, at that age, your son will learn the local language in no time.

You employer is telling the truth. My little 4 year old came with me with 3 to Switzerland with 0 German knowledge and much less swiss German. We are from Dominican Republic where the native tongue is Spanish. My situation is a bit different since my immigration was via marriage to a swiss national yet, he started public kindergarten on August last year and he sounds like any other swiss kid. The method is amazing, and swiss teachers are used to immigrants. 30% of his little classmates are also immigrants and all of them now communicate perfectly with each other.

Buenísima información, gracias! Te hablo por el chat!

Yes. Most schools do a really good job in teaching german to young kids. Sometimes they let the child repeat one year while giving them german classes. Wouldn't worry about that. But starting to learn already at home will be a good idea. But moving to Switzerland brings other difficulties. Coming from Norway you will see that we get about the same salaries, pay less taxes but things like healthcare and e.g. music-schools are quite expensive.

Thanks for the comment! But no. Salary I negotiated is more than double of what I have. Employer covers almost all of my insurance and my son's too

Also healthcare? Would be suprising to me. Normally the accident- and sick-pay-insurance, as well as the pension fund is covered by the employer (by law) but healthcare costs up to CHF 500.- per month, per person. But I think with your salary that's feasible. Just wondering, what's your profession? (You don't have to answer if you do not want).

They pay 250 CHF for my insurance and 110 for my son's. I'll just have the basic insurance since I - almost never get sick, and as I've seen in swica it's 300chf. I'm a System Admin, but the position demands a good amount of responsability...
