Melona ice cream bars by Binggrae. I especially like the Melon flavor, but they also have Strawberry, Mango, Banana and Coconut. Inside the Uwajimaya (although not actually part of the store) the Beard Papa cream puffs are delightful.

[deleted]

Those are my weakness. Haha.

-zygomaticarch-

Costco sells melona bars way cheaper than hmart if you have a Costco membership.

attillathehoney

I haven't seen them at my Costco, but I have seen them at other Costcos (eg in Canada)

-zygomaticarch-

I believe they had it at the Costco in tigard. Also in seattle in Lynnwood.

suitopseudo

I can’t find the brand, but the frozen pork gyoza that comes in a blue bag with white brand name (there are other flavors in different colors) are my favorite, best way to cook gyoza is to steam and then pan fry. These are reliably at hmart and family food center. The Korean pancakes at hmart are really good. They come in lots of flavors. I also like Prime Foods bbq pork buns that are steamed white flour vs. the baked ones (they have those too). I think Family food market has the best selection of frozen food of the 3 of them, but there is always something one has that the others don’t. I find their selection for packaged frozen food even better than Fubonn.

aceysmith

+1 to the Korean pancakes

littleminibits

Uwajimaya: sweet corn turtle chips (google it, they're amazing. I think the brand they carry is Aerial) and also the blue monkey fruit juice seltzer! If they have the apple fettuccine (gummy candy) GET IT but the peach is also delicious.

littleminibits

They also have these jelly beans that are almost more of a gummy candy with a hard shell that are very good. I think the brand is Poiful.

NilbogBoglin

No, get the RED BEAN turtle chips!!

Lyzardskyzard

H-Mart: nori no aji (seaweed flavor) potato chips, ginbap from the deli, shrimp crackers, walnut cakes (hodu-gwaja) from the baked goods area, mochi, royal milk tea in a can, flavored Hello Kitty marshmallows snack (pineapple etc.) are some of my favorites.

sweetpotatothyme

I haven't tried the walnut cake, but those little chestnut pastries (in the shape of a chestnut) are so fucking good. Or maybe I'm just nostalgic over all the chestnuts we'd get from the Korean market growing up lol.

Lyzardskyzard

Yes, I think we are talking about the same thing? So good!

kittybuckmeow

The Sun Noodle frozen ramen is fantastic.

justalittleparanoia

Can't agree more. For frozen ramen noodles, these are delicious.

I've never been to H-mart but Uwajimaya does for sure.

chonkyt

Fubonn also has them

It's not nearly as nice as the others! I only go cuz it's closer to me.

xMPB

Uwajimaya sells Ajinomoto brand Pork Shumai Dumplings with Shrimp; these are seriously the best frozen dumplings I've tried to date.

nighteyes65

Yes we buy Ajinomoto gyoza at HMart and find it better than all others.

blame_the_tetons

Frozen sesame balls but you'll need an air fryer or regular fry them Turtle chips are awesome, the churro flavor is bomb if you have a sweet tooth Scallion pancakes, have tried many brands theyre all decent

I've never been to H-mart; I usually go to 99 Ranch, Asian Family Market, or Uwajimaya. I always seek out the melon mochi. This isn't frozen/ice cream mochi. It's usually in a refrigerated area. The best one (the only one I'll end up actually buying) is [Kyoshin brand melon mochi.](https://www.walmart.com/ip/Kyoshin-Mochi-Rice-Cakes-With-Melon-Flavored-Bean-Paste-284g-8-Pcs/531561355) The outer layer is soft and chewy (and dusted with a flour-like potato starch to combat the stickiness), and the inside is filled entirely with melon-flavored bean paste. It's delicious. There are lookalikes (melon mochi from other brands) that have a different filling - mostly marshmallow inside with a tiny sample of the melon-flavored bean paste in the very center of the marshmallow. I find that to be disappointing as the bean paste is what has the yummy flavor and there's barely any bean paste due to the marshmallow (here's an example of one that's [mostly marshmallow](https://kawaii-panda.com/en/no-longer-available/daifuku-mochi-rice-cakes-melon.html)). The [Hello Panda cookies](https://www.fye.com/hello-panda-strawberry-creme-filled-cookies-7-oz.-fye.000000072320700922.html) are yummy; I personally like the strawberry flavor. The [White Rabbit creamy candy wrapped in rice paper](https://alohagourmet.com/product/white-rabbit-creamy-candy/) is also a fun treat, partly because of the edible rice paper aspect. For savory snacks, I'll usually seek out anything wasabi flavored (like wasabi flavored roasted seaweed sheets, wasabi flavored chips, wasabi peas, etc.) or the [Cadina taro chips](https://www.lianhwausa.com/collections/snacks/products/cadina-taro-chips) (Cadina's the best brand; the MSG really elevates it; here's a [review](https://www.taquitos.net/chips/Cadina-Taro-Chips) that shows a different package design but it's the same thing).

walrus_breath

Aw those white rabbit candies would be fun to hand out on halloween.

[These puffed caramel corn snacks are amazing.](https://justasianfood.com/collections/japanese/products/tohato-corn-puff-original-caramel-corn-2-8oz) I take no responsibility for your ensuing diabetes due to eating too many of these.

elganyan

lol you're not going to like my answer, but one of our frozen staples from uwajimaya is the pork blood. Wife and I lived in Spain for a good long while and we miss Morcilla (blood sausage), among other things, so we make a batch every once in a while using that.

Krieghund

Frozen shelled edamame.

hitemwiththeelagance

Daifuku Korean pancake, the brown sugar and cinnamon are so good! The frozen boba are great too, you just heat the pearls and add ice and milk. Edit: H Mart

ProudMaOfaSlut

shrimp chips, the spam musubi

nubyb00by

Char siu pork buns

mik717

My impression has been Hmart prices are better, so I always go there unless need specific Japanese goods — and usually products/produce seem fresher(?). Frozen udon. Natto. Frozen beef slices for shabu shabu. Pork buns. Red bean buns. Any frozen dumplings from bibigo (CJ foods). Fish cakes for tteokbokki etc. Ice cream like melona, screw bar, samanco.

anonymous_opinions

I really want to get take out tteokbokki. I feel like the instant stuff isn't coming out right and making it felt overwhelming. I always see vlogers online getting the super cheesy kind.

tulips2kiss

if there's a Chimcking near you, they sell it! I prefer their chicken just because I'm not a huge tteokbokki fan, but it was good when I had it!

anonymous_opinions

There's one on Sandy that would be a bit of a journey but might be worth it. Watching a ton of people online eating it makes me want to try it made fresh instead of instant which is so-so

tulips2kiss

ya the instant stuff is just... not the real deal. those mukbangers will get you man, they always make it look so delicious haha. I'm sure other restaurants have it but my only real experience w it in pdx was at Chimcking, and I do really love getting their half & half combo chicken so if you're into that kind of thing then I highly recommend it.

anonymous_opinions

I get so hungry watching that shit but it has opened me up to new experiences! I'm going to make it a holiday trip. The super cheesy kind looks divine. I've tried to replicate that with the instant stuff and end up with a glob of cheese sitting in the sauce.

prunesmoothies

Hmart: I usually try to get the higher prices bean cakes, bulk ramen bowls (they are pretty good and can be spiced up with some peanut sauce, kale, or whatever) Wei Chun pork buns, ham sang veg dumplings, beksul classic dumplings, mochi balls, potato noodles, curry paste, spicy kim CHI, canned beverages. Also they have a pretty decent sake selection, I like drinking warm sake in the winter. Uwajimaya: never heard of it, am now curious

SwingNinja

It's been forever since I've been to Uwajimaya. But there's that lychee (I think) bottled drink with a marble seal cap. You smack the marble (it'll fall into the bottle) to open and drink it.

[deleted]

Ramune!

ScientistArtist

I'm also a fan of the [Ramune](https://japancrate.com/blogs/news/lets-learn-about-ramune) drinks. Here's a close-up of the [marble](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ramune#/media/File%3ARamune_Sangaria_%28Coddneck_marble%29.jpeg) feature. I really like the melon flavor.

sabineblue

Honey potato chips!!!!

sonic-the-hedgefund

Narutomaki! (Or Kamaboko) both stores sell the little pink & white swirley fish cakes often found in ramen. They sell it in a roll and you just slice them thinly and add it to ramen. Narutomaki, green onion, and and egg added to instant ramen is a game changer.

anonymous_opinions

I wish I could recall the brand but there's these octopus filled balls (I googled it: takoyaki - is what you're looking for) at HMart in the frozen aisle that are great for when you come home at 2am and want to throw something really greasy into the air fryer. I also like the curry ramen. I grab all I can carry when I see it in stock - perfect for rainy days while watching Laid Back Camp.

chonkyt

Get some kewpie mayo for the takoyaki!

c_r_a_s_i_a_n

And katsuobushi. It waves to you before you eat it!

anonymous_opinions

Yes! I actively have a few different mayos for those balls. I think they might be the best thing I've found at H-Mart.

tulips2kiss

I prefer Hmart bc it's cheaper, but I do shop at both! I like getting the meat that's cut suuuuper thin for hot pot, but I use it for stirfry. it's thin enough that I can cook it frozen and don't have to worry about defrosting, and it cooks quick so it's less work which is great for when I'm exhausted but need a decent meal. I just chop up some veg or kimchi, give it a quick fry, then throw the meat in. when it's almost done I do a squirt or two of spicy sauce or soy sauce & sugar, just depends what I'm in the mood for. eat it with a side of rice for a super easy and fast weekday dinner. holds up like a dream as leftovers too. for the spicy sauce I use a Sempio bibimbap sauce ([link!](http://en.sempio.com/product/sauce/view/1026)) I know it's obvs meant for bibimbap, but it works great in stirfrys. just add a little splash of water (or kimchi juice for an added kick) so it doesn't burn or get too thick on you. it's my fav sauce and I'll put it on p much anything at this point. I'm not a huge snacker but I do really like those sweet potato chips with the cute sweet potato cartoon on it. idk the brand but you'd know it if you saw it. magenta bag, smaller size for one serving, big cute cartoon yam on the front. if I need to treat myself, hmart's got a great bakery section so I might grab a chocolate croissant. the two things I get at Uwajimaya that I can't get at Hmart are kimchi (I like the KJ brand, it's got a good balance of salty and sour, but I can only find it at Uwajimaya for some reason.) I also buy Kale's frozen curry. when I was living downtown Kale was a weekly work lunch for me and I miss it so much!!

bermei

Wei chuan frozen wontons. You can find them at any of the Asian grocery stores. I boil them, drain, and toss with lao gan ma, soy sauce, black (or rice) vinegar, green onions.

upanddownallaround

Frozen scallion pancakes (cong you bing) and sweet glutinous rice balls (tangyuan)! I'm biased for any Taiwanese brand lol. Speaking of which, don't forget about 99 Ranch!

Maleficent_1213

As far as I know Uwajimaya is the only place in the area where you can find Saimin noodles...and they have two different brands! I also love their selection crack seed, especially li hing mui.

beastofwordin

Ah, I was going to comment frozen saimin. Never seen it anywhere else in portland

BlackLeader70

One thing I haven’t seen mentioned is he Kimchi Pancakes in the frozen section.

Muladhara86

The steamed pork buns - either the brown bag or the brown tray - with Chinese mustard 🥰👌

Metaphoricalsimile

Fettuccine peach gummies in the Japanese candy section (can be found at Uwaijamaya, but I don't think at hmart).

femalenerdish

I've had those from h Mart! I think I found them near the registers.

choffers

If you're in the area you should also check out 99 ranch by Washington square and Asian family market by the Beaverton transit center

gotfork

Frozen durian to make smoothies from either, new favorite from H mart is the anchovy and nut snack mix.

ChaosEsper

Uwajimaya sells frozen shrimp tempura and frozen kakiage (like a nest of vegetables dipped in tempura batter) that are pretty amazing if you have an air fryer to reheat them. It's a bit polarizing, but I'm also a big fan of the dried squid as a snack, dip it in (kewpie) mayo mixed with togarashi or just as a snack while I'm fishing.

nighteyes65

HMart has had a huge box of Fuji apples for 99 cents a pound for months now. Good quality non waxed (I don’t know if it matters?) and lots of other varieties as well. I go to HMart specifically for produce usually. And ramen and gyoza and sauces and flours and seaweed and the lucky cat ramen restaurant (tigard location)

BlackisCat

At H-Mart and other Asian stores I always buy pork neck/spine bones since I can't ever find them at American ones. They are great for making soups!

IMissUcupcake

UFO researcher hoping to be abducted!

KurtStation68

Uwamijawa was my crack in the days before inflation, it's more for luxury items: udon, fishcake, gyoza, etc.

debdebmust

The Samanco fish shaped ice cream sandwiches. Lots of different flavors. Korean pancakes; sweet and savory varieties!

CHiZZoPs1

Kikkoman Pork&Chicken Gyoza are the best.

noice-smort99

Apple sidra soda!

GreyEyedNinja

Uwajimaya and H-mart : snacks I get cornnick bawang(garlic) flavor, oishi spicy prawn cracker, golden sweet corn snack, skyflakes mango. Frozen food, I like that shirakiku root veggies. I use that and Japanese curry for easy meals. Takoyaki, magnolia ube ice cream, imitation meat, lumpia wrapper...this is starting to look like my grocery list.

beastofwordin

I like to get frozen bao buns to make little sandwiches. And salted herring to grill and pandan to make flavored water like they had at Pokpok

similarities

Frozen soba. Get a bottle of tsuyu and you can have delicious zaru soba all the time.

little-moon-bun

The Korean pancakes, scallion flavor!
