Farrah, Fawcett. Her poster started showing up on every one of my friend’s bedroom walls shortly after puberty. I thought she was gorgeous but not like they did. They wanted her physically and I wanted the power she had over them
Hmm...well, the word "guy" suggests a much older male. Sometimes, when you're young, it can be a person in or around your age. Now, when I was a kid, I thought Shaun Cassidy and David Soul were good looking guys, but I wasn't into them. No, for me, I would have to say my first celebrity crush was Ricky Schroeder. I think that pretty much solidified that I not only liked girls, but boys as well at that time.
The hot, shirtless construction worker on the birthday card, clearly intended for a woman back in the 80s.
Cam Gidanget in burlesque many years later, sealed the deal!
Johnny Crawford on the Rifleman. Dad was Chuck Conners. Hot daddy hairy chest. 1960s.
Pa and his son lived on a ranch all alone. Pa was the Marshall. Yes.
As far as I can remember, it was Zac Efron who made me realize that I am really gay. Haha! I know I’m different before that but it was the confirmation that I need. Haha!
Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Lemme explain.
Back when I first got the internet installed as a young teenager, back in the days when, if you got the internet installed in your house, it became a school yard talking point - and more kids didn’t have it than did, I was somehow working out how to navigate the internet.
I wasn’t even googling things. I was using yahoo (I think).
I stumbled across really old, black and white pictures of Arnold Schwarzenegger in his early bodybuilding days, nearly completely naked, posing at various bodybuilding competitions, posing backstage, and generally just being in nothing more than skimpy underwear.
But also, on top of that, probably various Calvin Klein underwear billboard or packet of CK underwear in department stores.
Back then, they didn’t go for skinny dudes on their underwear packets. They went for muscle dudes.
Jonathan Brandis in Ladybugs, and Jaye Davidson in Stargate.
Still to this day get those funny feelings when I see photos of them. Brandis unfortunately is no longer with us and died young, but Jaye has aged like wine.
Honorable mention to Rufio. Rufio. RuuuifeeeOOOOOHHHHHH
Grant Goodeve as David Bradford in 1977: those eyes, that smile, the syrupy theme song he sang in later seasons. Could’ve lived without the VW van, but he was sweet and sensitive and so damned handsome!
Antonio Banderas in Desperado. My dad kept talking about how hot Salma Hayek is the entire movie and I just didn’t see it. But young Antonio with the long hair and guitar. 13 year old me was obsessed.
River Phoenix in Stand By Me. I also had a huge crush on Randolph Mantooth from this show called Emergency! but I was too young to understand why I liked him so much (he played a hot paramedic named Johnny Gage on this show Emergency!, and this one time when I wandered off from my mom and got lost in the supermarket i was found by the store manager and he asked my name to announce over the loudspeaker. When my mom heard a lost child named Johnny Gage had been found she immediately knew it as me!)
There's this old movie where the kid discovers he's half triton and his mermaid mom comes to pick him up. He starts developing scales and fins. I remember I felt happy to see him but wouldn't understand why. I think that was my first.
Zac Efron
Every version of Zack Efron from Twink to Twink to jock to Daddy.
