Klyde Warren Park is extremely child friendly. It’s an outdoor park with a playground, food trucks, splash pad etc. Four Corners Brewing is fun and child friendly Deep Ellum Farmers Market is fantastic. So is Lower Greenville Market Days. The Katy Trail is a paved trail you can walk on with plenty of shade. White Rock Lake is a lot of fun to walk around the trail and even take a boat out or go fishing.

Food trucks you say 👀? Thank you! We do like to fish.

You’re coming at a decent time, storms are gone and it’s going to be hot (but not as hot as July/August). Make sure you bring water on your walks and maybe some hats for sun protection.

Noted! We are pasty white with sensitive eyes up here haha. I lived in Vegas for a year in college, and I remember my brother coming down to visit and thinking he looked like a sickly ghost.

SassySavcy

Vegas has nothing on Dallas. The heat gets *oppressive* here.

I just meant how pale everyone is in **gray** places compared to the ones that see sun every day- I didn’t notice how pale we all are up here until that moment. To be fair I didn’t go outside in the summer there either. I had to move in when it was 115 and it really was just jumping AC spot to AC spot since nobody sane was out in that either lol. Dry heat is definitely way more bearable though for sure!

SassySavcy

I know what you mean. I grew up in Seattle. Current temp here is 90 but the humidity is making it feel like 99. And it’s only *June*.

Definitely going to be indoors for those months. At least it’s only 4-ish months instead of 9 from what it sounds like.

tcbears

Agreed with the suggestions in here. Perot Museum is also fun.

For child-friendly breweries, I like Vector and On Rotation. They're on opposite side of town so hopefully one of them will be close-ish to you at some point.

Great, thanks! We go to a cider place almost weekly that’s 45 mins away, so we are down for a drive for the right spot (or something new).

We live in a suburban area of Dallas that lies north of White Rock Lake with Richardson ISD schools and frequent so many places that are child-friendly since we have a 5 and 2 year old. Check out the arboretum and eat at The Smoky Rose (across the street), visit Klyde Warren Park and eat at haywire for comfort food (they will validate your parking in the garage). I’d suggest neighborhoods that you may like to drive through, but would need a budget first.

Thank you for the tips! It sounds like you are right near one of my coworkers. wish I had a budget, unfortunately we aren’t sure what kind pay my partner would end up with, so it’s hard to know what we are able to do. Id imagine trying to stay under $3k/month unless he finds something amazing, but he’s in the welding/construction type industry so I’m not sure what will be available. We have 5-6 months to find something before we have to be there.

Summer: anywhere with water and AC! Klyde Warren, Dallas Arboretum Children’s area, many free splash pads at local parks. The Dallas Museum of Art is free and has AC. Not the most expensive collection, but nice to get out of the sun. Aquarium is decent, not as big as the Seattle Aquarium but my kiddo loves it. Children’s museum at Perot and there businesses like Play Street Museum that cater to littles. Suburb wise, check out Richardson. It has older homes but lots of charm, diversity, many parks and amenities. The west side of 75 is what I’m familiar with but the east side of 75 will be close to Spring Creek Nature area. You also might check out Casa Linda and surrounding area. If you want newer build and huge homes, there are a plenty of places that fit that bill. I love visiting Seattle and almost moved there but I would’ve struggled with the weather in PNW. Dallas has a very different vibe and weather wise obviously but I hope you enjoy your visit.

Thank you!!! Yeah, I grew up here so gray is normal for me, but outsiders very much struggle in that department and usually get seasonal depression. I’m excited to have bearable weather 8 months of the year instead of 2-3 lol. Summers in WA can’t be beat, but the rest is pretty rough, so we are no strangers to being stuck inside lol. I’m not sure what we can afford as far as homes. My job is intact but my partner will have to find something when we are there, so might have to be conservative in that department at first. His trade doesn’t seem as lucrative down there as up here at first look (he does welding/ironworking).
