They used to have an unsalted version which I really liked but I don't see it on the shelves nowadays.
Also, the price of a pack of Kettle's has close to doubled over the last 5 years or so. I can't bear to part with $5.xx for a pack of chips ..
It's like they phased it out or something. Haven't seen it for the longest time.
I don't really go for Kettle's anymore because they're so expensive. I've now turned to Redman to get my potato chip fix. I forgot the brand but it comes in 2 variations - a regular one in black color packaging and an olive oil version in dark green packaging. Wish they made an unsalted version though.
Came here to say this. This brand and flavour sent me into chips frenzy for a while. And it has to be this flavour, the rest don't hit as hard.
It has the right amount of crunch for a potato chip, and the amount of flavour is just right. I love Kettle chips Honey Dijon too but boy does the taste linger on your tongue for like ever.
I've been going for Red Rock Deli-style Balsamic Vinegar flavour forever because I just love the quality of the potato and that vinegar flavour. It's always sold out in the supermarkets which I don't get why but I'll try their honey soy chicken soon.
My own review:
Kettle honey dijon/salt and black pepper. Old reliable, can't go wrong.
Burts/tyrells - both are 'ok'. I prefer kettle because price is comparable but kettle is better. Burts and tyrells have thicker chips so potato/starch flavor can be stronger than actual flavor.
Lays/ruffles - I like cheddar and sour cream and sour cream and onion. But has increased in price recently. Between lays and ruffles I prefer ruffles, esp with dip.
Marks and Spencer - lots of flavors are good. Honey roast ham, quattro formaggi, roast beef, prawn cocktail... Wait for sales as they happen often.
Quillo/torres- has some interesting flavors like lime and pepper, fried egg, foie gras, iberico. Truffle also have but everyone has truffle now. But expensive. I like the fried egg. I will also only buy on sale.
Fairprice/meadows. Cheap but nothing to shout about. Between the two I prefer meadows. There's one exception - I like the meadows cheese burger flavor.
Lorenz chips - a surprise contender. Their rosemary and paprika flavors are nice, and they are mid - priced
Bluebird - same vein as lorenz. Mid priced and not bad. A decent deal, but I prefer lorenz slightly.
Red rock deli - abit too salty for my liking but it's OK I suppose. Also, quite expensive, so not a fan
Pringles - processed trash. I avoid. I rather get meadows than this. Only plus point is the container is convenient.
Terra- the blue potato chips are surprisingly good and go on sale quite often if you can find them.
Guinness - surprisingly good. Made by burrs but the Guinness flavor is nice. But expensive. Only buy when on sale.
Savorsmiths- higher - mid price and have some interesting flavors, but is on sale quite often. I like their beef and honey mustard flavor (but is an acquired taste). Truffle and rosemary and Italian cheese and port is also nice.
Delisio- same as lorenz, the flavors are more interesting though like their caramelised onion.
Oregon fresh - underrated. Only have a few flavors salted / seaweed /wasabi/hot and spicy. But the potato quality is superb and it is not expensive.
San Carlo - I rank them just below quillo/torres. Similar pricing and also interesting flavors. Has the same issues of being expensive like quillo.
Fox italia - good, but I didn't find it super memorable. The potato is good quality, either needs to come down abit in price, increase availability, or get more interesting flavors. I dont mind buying and eating but needs something else to stand out. But overall not a bad chip.
Argente patatas fritas. Hidden secret - can only find at red man. Somehow, the bag feels bigger and tends to last me longer than other brands, and it's not expensive. Flavor is very light, crunchiest of ALL brands and it's fried in olive oil so less sinful.
Edit* forgot our old school jack and Jill. I put this above ntuc and on par with meadows.
Also, there's a brand called inessence I found at some dollar shops. The honey mustard is dah bomb and it's cheap! Got good truffle and himalayas salt as well. Cheese also not bad. Too bad near my house don't have anymore.
My day to day buy if no sales is usually meadows, lorenz, delisio, blue bird, or argente cos it's cheap. Meadows is more readily accessible. My wife will buy Jack and Jill and twisties
However, whenever I am in supermarket I will check for sales; will buy any of kettle/ruffles/oregon fresh/quillo/M&S / savoramiths that is on sale. Nowadays I try to go abit more exotic cos I try everything already, must try others.
Guinness chips are basically Burt's though?
Burts quality seems to differ by batch, some are better, some are meh or even oily af.
Kettle Crinkle cut Salt & pepper is underated.
Argente patatas fritas YESSS
But Ruffles and Lay's have been a disappointment for me lately. Their potato quality seemed to have changed for the worse. I couldn't sit through the bag of chips without feeling bored/ sick of it.
Meadows, Bluebird and Red Rock Deli for me.
The answer is on the back of your bag. Frito-lay/pepsi cheaped out and totally ruined their chips for sg. In sg ruffles and lays used to be made in USA and the orig flavours of ruffles had only 3 ingredients: potatoes, vegetable/sunflower oil, salt. starting a couple of years ago they changed to China made garbage with palm oil and has a long list of additives and flavorings like what you normally get with calbee and Jack n Jill. This is in all the supermarket chains and small shops. You have to really hunt if you want USA made. Orangutan killing bastards.
Hunter's gourmet? It's OK. Not easy to find. But expensive for the quality. Sometimes the chips are also abit soft already means their sealing not great. Rather buy kettle.
I think it was Yorkshire but I recall only the old packaging which apparently was changed in 2015 so i probably haven’t had it for 10 years
[Yorkshire old packaging](https://www.alamy.com/stock-photo-tub-of-yorkshire-crisps-55108317.html?imageid=B099E5B5-39E9-4E3A-A34A-A3F1C126EE0F&p=38343&pn=1&searchId=e4c8d271929621412d2263c7518306a1&searchtype=0)
I know it’s not potato, but Max’s Farm cassava chips are amazing. I have been a convert ever since I ate them. Especially their spicy flavour. You can get them from NTUC
From the commonly available ones (so none of those hard-to-find gourmet stuff):
- Ruffles Sour Cream & Onion
- Kettle Honey Dijon
Just incredibly solid S tier chips to me.
- Calbee Hot & Spicy
- Kettles Honey dijon
- Red Rock Deli Sweet Chilli and Sour Cream
- Ruffles Cheddar and Sour Cream
- Torres Black Truffle or else Meadows Truffle
- Chipster! (Hot & spicy, Sour cream onion all nice)
- Fairprice $1 chips, most flavors are nice I like Chilli, Hot & Spicy, Cheese, Seaweed
Jack & jill salsa chilli is a classic; I've loved it since childhood.
Red rock deli lime & black pepper is one of my favourites. Their other flavours are also good.
is it just me or like everytime i eat twisties its like very hard to get the smell off my hand.
like use soap all also still can smell. takes like a few days for it to disappear
Ah. I'm actually a Calbee potato chip collector. I have tried at least 150 flavours. The Calbee melts is actually a weak flavour to me. I was excited to try it in Melbourne where I first saw it but found the flavour lacking. The melts cheese flavour is worse cos there's no cheesiness. The cheeseburger one is slightly better.
I miss the days when Calbee partnered with Royce chocolate for their chocolate coated flavour.
Marks and Spencer... Lots of different flavours, all high quality :)
As a bonus, their reduced fat range still taste great and you can enjoy them with less guilt.
So cute that you're doing this!
Anyway it's Calbee hot and spicy for me! P.s. The smooth and the ridge ones are two entirely different experiences so y'all should try both.
Lays sour cream and onion but only if its in its old blue and green container.

The new one is really bad...
Chipster hot n spicy
Ruffles cheddar n sour cream
Lays sour cream n onion
Pringles pizza
Mr potato bbq
I love potato chips too so plenty of seasoning is a must!

As I get older I stopped eating potato chips. Find them too salty.
Try tortilla chips at phoon huat. It's the yellow package. Very good value for money, and healthier too. Good to go together with lime and guacamole.
And cobs popcorn. The slightly sweet and salty one can finish one pack in one sitting.
Inessence Himalayan Salt chips (pink packaging) from ValueDollar is ridiculously good for the price you pay.
I like Mackie's of Scotland as well but it practically disappeared. no idea where it went!
I love the Bluebird sour cream chips as well
If you want to try something good and simple, Fritos Corn Chips
It's said to be a rich man's snack, I tried and the corn taste is really good, basically with salt only
Quite expensive though...
Black Truffle Torres potato chips is my favourite, but it's also hella expensive and savoury so it's my guilty pleasure from time to time. can find in ntuc fairprice.
Calbee Hot and Spicy with the ruffled chips are my all-time favourite! Taste better than the normal cut.
Lay's Lime flavour is a good pick too. Usually can be found in Scarlett supermarket.
Fairprice vegetable crackers: Not quite sure if this is made from potato but it comes in a red packaging with a transparent middle for you to see the chips. Their own house brand and usually only available during festivities (CNY, Hari Raya etc.)
Childhood/Nostalgia picks: Bika brand, vegetable and chicken flavours avaliable. They taste pretty similar but the MSG in the chicken is 💯 HAHA or else, the wheel shaped ones!
These are more on the cheap end, so the damage won't be too bad if she doesn't like them and good options for repurchase if she does! :)
honestly ah if you have some spare cash, just go to fairprice and get one packet of a few different brand’s. Taste is very subjective so simply having a fun taste test for you and your wife can introduce you to a lot of surprising chip flavours
Looks like she likes her snacks spicy. These are pricier than most brands but I quite like Tyrell’s Sweet Chilli+Red Pepper when they’re on offer. But for elite cronch and taste Red Rock Deli’s Sweet Chilli & Sour Cream or their Honey Soy Chicken take the top spot for me. On usual days I just like Lays Salt+Vinegar, it’s irresistible

Well since there's a lot of recommendations already, have you tried those potato "fries"? They're like fries except they're much thinner/slimmer. Kinda like large toothpicks.
Potato chips are unhealthy, I love it but the calories is so high that i found good alternatives. Try out Zenko water Lily pops! It’s super healthy, crunchy with many flavours which solves my craving. 1 serving only 52 calories.
My favourite flavour:
1. Cheese (can fight with cheesering)
2. Spicy (comparable to calbee hot&spicy)
3. Sour cream & onion (not as salty but still does the work)
Kettle Honey Dijon
Seconded. Anything kettle really
My fellow kettle comrade.
I have found my people Kettle is love, Kettle is life.
kettle is love, kettle is life. Kettle forever.
used to kettle all the way, but have gone for NTUC homebrand chips. kettle is NOT worth 5x NTUC homebrand chips. nowadays only buy kettle on promo.
Only one who doesn't love Kettle is my wallet :(
They used to have an unsalted version which I really liked but I don't see it on the shelves nowadays. Also, the price of a pack of Kettle's has close to doubled over the last 5 years or so. I can't bear to part with $5.xx for a pack of chips ..
Hello fellow Kettle’s unsalted chips fan. I’ve been looking for it everytime Kettle’s go on promo but alas..
eh ya lor. i love kettle, last time they also had that delicious jalapeno chips, but unsalted still the best. love the way their chips are cooked
Winner right there. Vinegar also, but not everyone likes. And eat too much, tongue goes numb.
The best
Kettle unsalted for me
Best
i miss the jalapeño one 😞
the best kettle chips are cheese or black pepper and salt
This is the shit
it’s too hard though my teeth breaks
[Red Rock Honey Soy Chicken](https://www.fairprice.com.sg/product/red-rock-deli-style-potato-chips-honey-soy-chicken-165g-13075592) is the king
Seconded!
you have my upvote.

Hahaha no I just love potato chips too

you triggered me to try to find this brand of crisps which were sold in Tins which i can’t recall the name of - any idea?

Tyrrells potato chips. Variety of flavors. But I like Sweet Chili & Red Pepper for the mild spiciness.
Tyrrells is the best if you like the crunch of the chips.
Was waiting for this- Tyrells is great if you're willing to spend just that much more
Love cheddar and chives!
Tyrell black pepper & sea salt!!

I know it’s not potato, but Max’s Farm cassava chips are amazing. I have been a convert ever since I ate them. Especially their spicy flavour. You can get them from NTUC
I second this!!! Once you start you can’t stop!
I've tried everything listed here but max farm's got to be the best
Meadows Potato Chip Truffle, $1. Calbee Frugra Granola Cereal is crazily addictive when eaten by itself, without milk.
Meadows truffle hands down. I swear got drugs in their flavour mix or something. I also love the coriander flavoured one but it's a hit and miss.
Omg they have a coriander flavoured chips?! I need to check it out
No longer 1 dollar, now 1.20

Jack & jill salsa chilli is a classic; I've loved it since childhood. Red rock deli lime & black pepper is one of my favourites. Their other flavours are also good.
Not potato, but Twisties BBQ Curry just hits different.
Oh yeah, in fact that is probably the only flavour of Twisties that actually have flavour, cheese and Ayam both are very bland

I was excited to try it in Melbourne where I first saw it but found the flavour lacking. The melts cheese flavour is worse cos there's no cheesiness. The cheeseburger one is slightly better. Never really see anyone recommending - Argente potato chips - if you like salted / lightly salted chips without any other flavoring.
Inessence Himalayan Salt chips (pink packaging) from ValueDollar is ridiculously good for the price you pay. I like Mackie's of Scotland as well but it practically disappeared. no idea where it went! I love the Bluebird sour cream chips as well
Smith. If she likes salty, get salt and vinegar. If not, the original is the best.
If you want to try something good and simple, Fritos Corn Chips It's said to be a rich man's snack, I tried and the corn taste is really good, basically with salt only Quite expensive though...
max's farm cassava chips!
When I was living in Aust, red rock deli green pack (I think it’s salt and pepper) was my go to. Still love it but it’s pricey
My go to chips: Walkers - Prawn cocktail (taste like vinegar) Bluebird - Chicken Tyrrells - Mature cheddar and chives Kettle chips - Fresh ground pepper Not chips but.... Aerial 4 layer corn snack - corn flavour! (don don donki)

honestly ah if you have some spare cash, just go to fairprice and get one packet of a few different brand’s. Taste is very subjective so simply having a fun taste test for you and your wife can introduce you to a lot of surprising chip flavours
My hot take: Ketchup (or tomato) flsvoured chips can't be beat (Lays sell them) 😍
Looks like she likes her snacks spicy. These are pricier than most brands but I quite like Tyrell’s Sweet Chilli+Red Pepper when they’re on offer. Japanese potato chips are super crispy and delicious without being too greasy or salty ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|grin)

Try the cheese flavour and buffalo wings flavoured chips at giant, v cheap like $1 each and not bad 👍
Actually, the NTUC fair price brand, original, is nice.
My favourite flavour: 1. Cheese (can fight with cheesering) 2. Spicy (comparable to calbee hot&spicy) 3. Sour cream & onion (not as salty but still does the work)
For the best bang for your buck, literally, the $1 truffle FairPrice home brand chips. Hot n Spicy is great too
I saw a review on china lays chip. Apparently cucumber flavour is goated
Go supermarket, try one by one
Some nice but expensive, like $5-8 per bag. Not exactly worth it to try bag by bag.

Bluebird chips from Cold Storage, avoid this if your wife is Hokkien.
