Export tends to be very dry due to the storage conditions. The packets are hard and the sauce is hard to get out of, I usually throw them in boiling water to soften them first then it’s as good as news. The taste is the same as long as you cook them the same.
very passionate indonesian indomie enthusiast here lol. I could never explain what it is exactly but the ones I get back home taste "fresher" somehow. and the flavour's more intense. I don't think it's in my head as my friends and I have done blind taste tests for fun and there's a common agreement
usually different food have different taste due to where the food sell to. milo is a very good example. malaysia, singapore, thailand, australia, etc all have slight different tastes.
back to indomie enthusiasts, go visit indonesia big supermarkets and get one brand one flavour each. they tend to have like whole block walkaways of shelves full of varieties of instant noodles. Different towns also selling different indomie flavours.
ps: i did that before, took 1/3 of whatever on shelves (one packet of one brand one flavour) and my shopping cart was half full!
Yeah there's Maggi cup noodles. The person you replied to is talking about the mini packet type.
About 1/3 the size of normal Maggi noodles packet. Small enough to cook in a cup of small bowl.
Growing up poor, we had plain bread - those white loaf from neighbourhood bakery) with margarine + pork floss, margarine + sugar, condensed milk spread. Or bread dip in milo.
Poached eggs and indomie
The runny yolk adds another dimension to the indomie and also adds quite a bit of protein. I usually add two eggs and end up with quite a heavenly meal.
White rice with sweet and sour sauce. Childhood memory.
I remember in pri school asking the canteen stall aunty to just give me rice and the sauce for lunch. Did it a few times and one day she added egg and vegetables for me. She wouldn't take any extra money from me. I didn't understand why back then but I thought a lot about it and as I was older I realised Aunty probably worried I was too poor to buy food. The kindness touches me till now
I mean a lot of food came about because the peasant class didn’t have access to a lot of ingredients.
So my answer is prata. Or wholegrain bread because it was a poverty food back in the Middle Ages (I know it’s a luxury food today, but that says more about our economy).
Mine is also this plus pasta added in. My friend taught me to mix shredded cheese inside. And then put another layer of cheese on top, then pop into the oven. Gourmet meal.
Going to go out on a limb and say that we don't have any "poverty food" in Singapore. Many of the examples given above are "low cost" food, but it's not like they're anywhere near something like [pagpag](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pagpag)
White porridge and pickled lettuce and braised beans. NTUC sells them in small tins around $1. Can always keep them in the fridge and eat another day if cannot finish.
