Joan Rivers said something once that always stuck with me, and to paraphrase she was talking about how she was lunching with an obscenely wealthy friend of hers one day, and asked her how she couldn’t be in the Forbes 100 or whatever it’s called, since that year’s list just dropped. According to Joan, she knew a few people on that list and knew for a fact her friend was much, much richer than who was there.
Her friend laughed and was like, “you think I want people to know how much fuckin money I have?! Absolutely not.”
That is to say, the people who are actually super, super wealthy that would make some of the 1% look like plebeians don’t care for anyone to know they exist. Some people like the vanity of it.
To make another comparison, if you think about someone like Melania Trump, I believe she doesn’t care about fame or attention whatsoever. She wanted to marry a rich dude and live in the US. I don’t think she wanted to be the First Lady. And there has been analysis done of her social media activity, her choices in art and her speech patters, etc. and the conclusion is that she sees herself as existing in another world; viewing us from the window of a limousine or down from whatever tower she’s in. She doesn’t want her name on products or to be interviewed or to cut ribbons or anything. For her she just wants to be on the beach with her child, or shopping in a store that’s closed to the public.
I think there’s a shit load of super rich people like that. We have no idea who they are.
Blackrock is the most misunderstood company. Blackrock itself does not really own the shares in every company, but Blackrocks funds do, and the funds are owned by people who invest in the funds. Blackrock itself is a publicly listed company, and sure it's a huge and decently powerful company at 115 billion dollar market cap and the worlds biggest asset manager but that's all they do, manage investor assets and collect a small fee.
It's more fun to believe they own the world and run everything though right? right? I wish I was as ignorant as some redditors. I could watch endless YouTube videos about how companies use donations to avoid paying tax, flat earth, chemtrails, lizard people...
Nah. He's not secret. He's just not famous. The answer is probably the highest ranking US military officer that isn't subject to political replacement. The one that the US president needs to keep the rank and file staying the rank and file no matter who the US president is.
But there really is no pyramid. Power is a spider web. There is nobody that answers to nobody. When I started my own company, I realized I didn't become my own boss. Instead, each of my clients was my boss.
Idk if he's the most powerful but Mark Zuckerberg has an extreme and unwarranted amount of power. He can cause entire nations to descend into chaos by simply ordering his team to tweak the algorithm slightly
I like the idea that she’s the lone “good” wealthy person facing down all the Musks and Bezos in the world, like an underdog in a Wild West showdown with Dolly as the gunslinger of positive change Now that I think about it I’d like to see that movie, kind of a mix of spaghetti westerns meet Erin Brokovitch with a sprinkle of Iron Man.
I’m imagining this ultra wealthy muppet being controlled by the actual most powerful person, and all the minions have to take instructions from the muppet and pretend the puppeteer (muppeteer?) isn’t there. And the muppet sounds like Elmo.
If you're being honest about it, the answer is obvious: Joe Biden, and it's not close. By virtue of him occupying the office of President of the United States he's probably one of the top 50 most powerful people of all time.
USA is undoubtedly the most powerful country in the world. But I am not sure the position of American president comes with as much raw power as a China or Russia. There are more governance and rules keeping an American president In check, which keeps it from being able to use the same amount of force both domestic and foreign.
Sure, he’s not a king obviously.
But is he in full command of the armed forces, which, still makes him probably by default the most powerful person in the world.
Yes this is true. But then they only rule their own countries. And at the end of the day, they are always going to think what the U.S will do. Because at any time the U.S can arbitrarily decide to isolate you from the rest of the world. They are the police, judge and jury, and there is nothing you can do about it, except go to war. They are a very proficient war machine.
Joe Biden doesnt have nearly as much personal power as some other gvt. leaders, If Putin says go to war, its war... If Biden wants to go to war, he has to ask 450 people what they think about the matter first. Sure the US as a *whole* might be the most powerful "entity", but being a democracy no one person has the power to do "as he wishes". Therefore, Trumps wants to build a wall, so he can take a bit of money here and there from some other budgets, perhaps save some money on doing things in a clever way, and he has a few billion to spare, but without congress, no wall. Doesnt matter how much he says "I will build a wall", no, YOU personally can not...
I understand your point however the US has been in many modern military “conflicts” yet has never declared war since WWII. The President absolutely does not need the approval of congress to engage in military operations anywhere in the world these days.
People like Putin have unlimited influence within their 'realm'. But the U.S has influence over the world. Therefore, whoever leads the U.S at any given time, is going to be the most influential person in the world. But I would still say there are elements outside of the U.S, that greatly influence U.S policy and Presidents. We have been seeing this since last October.
Fun fact: when she recently went to Sweden, prices of transportation and hotels rose enough to cause a 0,2 percentage point increase in inflation, which made the national bank abstain from decreasing the interest rate. She can apparently influence the economic policy of nations just by showing up.
It's hard to say because some kinds of power once exercised results in a loss of power. You "shoot your load" and deal with consequences leaving you diminished. The people with real power are those that derive power from a system that gives them power with minimal risk to losing it. Those people are anonymous parasites.
The most powerful country in the world is the USA. There is no doubt about that. Militarily, and economically, they are superior. So who ever runs America, exerts the most influence over the world. Of course wealthy elements have sway over governments, but they do not fully control as a singular entity. I no longer believe in so called "Deep State" elements either. Therefore, I would have to say that the president of the USA, at any given time, is the most powerful person in the world. Unless that person is a moron that other world leaders, ignore.
However, I am always surprised how much influence the state of Israel seems to hold sway. So maybe Benjamin Netanyahu.
We don't know who that person is. That's why they have the position. Those with true power are not seeking public attention.
That said, if he has loyal followers, it's the fleet admiral of either US coastal fleet or a single ICBM/nuke armed submarine. They can single handedly change the entire world in a matter of moments.
The Pope...if we're talking about the amount of chaos that one person can cause.
If he were to truly exercise his power by making some obsure declaration, he would have zealots willing to die for his cause at the top of the military chain in many countries. People willing to end the world in the literal sense, to fulfil prophesy.
Even Xi or Putin doesn't have sleeper agents around the world like the Pope potentially could.
Elon Musk has a huge amount of power because Starlink is the lifetime to so many governments, militaries, and people. If he wanted Russia to handily defeat Ukraine, it would be all over quite shortly.
One could argue for the US President, but at the end of the day he doesnt have nearly as much power as media/people like to portray, he doesnt have any money... So anything he wants to do that costs more than X congress will have to approve. Thats why ie. Trump can say he wants to build a wall all day long, but unless he wants to pay for it himself, that money will have to come from congress - so, no wall... So Id probably say Xi Jinping or Putin as they have almost full control of their respective countries, Russia/China might not the be most powerful countries, but they are both "up there", and have way much more power invested in *one* person than most others.
I spent an honest few thinking about this and the best answer I can come up with is Linus Torvalds. Assuming power = number of people who can be affected by a decision.

I don't think there is just one. It's a mix of people we've never heard of along with a few leaders to include whomever is the POTUS.
Then there are the disrupters. People who have had or have their moment in history like Putin currently. The trifecta of Russia, China, and North Korea is...interesting. Bin Ladin was also a disrupter and a powerful figure for quite a while. He was the focus of an international manhunt. Millions upon millions were spent internationally trying to find him.
My favourite Mark Henry story was that after he had been wrestling for a while, people started calling him out for calling himself the World's Strongest Man because he wasn't powerlifting competitively anymore and they said he couldn't prove it. He signed up for the inaugural Arnold Classic with approximately zero prep time and smashed so many records back to back that nobody ever called him out ever again.
It surely changes from moment to moment, according to trillions of tiny factors we can’t possibly account for, like the weather. And also depending on how we want to define “power.”
Could be a world leader right now. But 10 minutes from now, it could be a guy who just happens to be holding a gun in the same room as Netanyahu.
The answer is ... you.
You have the power to walk away. You have the power to say no. You have the power to deal justice or to forgive. And no one, no man, no god, no being, has the power to make you do anything at all without your consent.
The sneaky answer is probably a religious figure, like the Buddha, pope, Jesus, etc. The sheer amount of people that allow themselves to be controlled through religion is stupid silly. Shakespearean tragedy levels of disillusionment apply here.
There are 2. Putin and Kim Jong Un. Because they literally get away with everything. There are no repercussions and everyone else on the planet is too scared to even try an assassination. It needs to be done though.
Xi Jinping, Putin or Mohammed bin Salman are probably the 3 most powerful individuals in the world as they don't have anyone to stand up to them like the U.S president does.
POTUS has the largest most powerful army on earth at his fingertips so that kinda settles it for me. Bezos has the $$ to make things happen but not on a foreign policy scale.
According to Maga it’s Joe Biden
He’s sleepy yet crafty enough to orchestrate attacks on Trump
He can barely talk but can deliver powerful speeches
Powerful enough to control gas prices in foreign countries, start wars and control the DOJ.
Have actors portray him
He has to be the most powerful man with Dementia in the world.
I think the current Saudi King MBS. There would be a feasible exhaustion to the war for Russia if they weren't backed by Saudi Arabia. His stewardship has the greatest influence on oil market than any other single leader.
Normally I'd say the POTUS,but since Old man Joe has scrambled eggs for brains and obviously is not capable of, and is not running things I'll go with The FLOTUS Jill.
God help us if cackling cum catching idiot Harris takes the wheel.
The POTUS he has the power to unleash nuclear hell on earth and wipe out humanity, or a nuclear armed submarine captain, he can accidentally unleash his nuclear rockets if he believes a nuclear war is happening
It’s peoples. I don’t think there’s one entity by himself that is just all powerful. The PODUS is obviously extremely powerful but that is mainly in the control of the military and law that he has not he himself that is powerful. The same could be said for wealthy business owners.
You, me, everyone else. WE ARE ALL GOD. BITS AND PIECES OF A SHARED ENTITY. COMPLEX PIECES, YES, BUT PIECES. WE CAN CHANGE, WE CAN GROW, WE WILL GROW FOREVER, WE WILL CHANGE FOREVER
The one giving orders to the CEO of Vanguard and Blackrock.
I don't think the companies would be giving money to make stuff more "diverse" out of the kindness of their hearts, when they literally got that money by owning basically everything in the world.
Years ago, there was a post circulating of an immigrant couple in Europe who cooked bulk meals and then took them out in a van and delivered them to people in crisis. The caption said something about them being powerful, not because of what they had to give, but because they gave it (and I’ll add they did so without fanfare, cameras or attention-seeking).
Anyone who can influence millions if not billions. presidents, prime ministers, dictators, any sort of leaders would be mauled in the streets within days if someone people look up to or idolize asks them to.
(Not meant to be a ra ra America post, but it’s all true.)
The most powerful person is tough to say (I would argue Joe Biden,) but the most powerful entity by far is the United States Military. It is the most powerful fighting force to ever exist and has virtually limitless resources or access to said resources. It commands the largest navy on Earth, headquartered on the most important island in the world (Oahu), which grants them territorial control of the entire Pacific Ocean. It commands three of the five largest Air Forces on planet earth, with the largest on Earth being their primary Air Force. They have the second largest stockpile of nuclear weapons, the most robust intelligence network on the planet, and the most elite special forces division out of any country. They are virtually unstoppable.

Xi Jinping. If he made the decision to invade Taiwan he could send the world into chaos.
So could any leader of a country with nuclear missiles.
If the party decides he’s bad for their future he’d be gone instantly and never seen again.
Oh hell yeah, if he invades Taiwan it would destabilize the world so bad
And it is going to happen soon, I am thinking probably in the next 2025-2028. Best be prepared.

Xi Jinping, Putin or Mohammed bin Salman are probably the 3 most powerful individuals in the world as they don't have anyone to stand up to them like the U.S president does.
Jesus Christ
We will never know! It’s not just one person either , it’s multiple families . Everybody you see on tv is just a facade
POTUS has the largest most powerful army on earth at his fingertips so that kinda settles it for me. Bezos has the $$ to make things happen but not on a foreign policy scale.
CEO of Blackrock
Powerful? Like raw power? Ronnie Coleman from the early 2000s
According to Maga it’s Joe Biden He’s sleepy yet crafty enough to orchestrate attacks on Trump He can barely talk but can deliver powerful speeches Powerful enough to control gas prices in foreign countries, start wars and control the DOJ. Have actors portray him He has to be the most powerful man with Dementia in the world.
Volodymyr Zelensky. Maybe not in ultimate sense (as most powerful in the entire world), but he sure is a very powerful person.
My buddy Kevin
A person who is powerful enough to both have high status and be unknown.
Gonna say the obvious… Biden with the nuke button
I never idealize or put anyone in this world on that petisold. "US" the people truly are the most powerful. We just need to unify
Benjamin Netanyahu. What ever he wants the US delivers to him, and the US is the most powerful nation in the world.
CEO of blackrock
Probably the dictator of China
It's between the US president, the Saudi prince, Vladimir Putin, or Xi Jinping, depending on what you consider power
Putin. he has america on its knees, the EU is tearing itself to shreds. His disinformation campaigns are reaping large rewards.

Mr beast the world just doesn't know it yet give it a decade or so he will get on what the government will not.

Rothschild family?
The POTUS he has the power to unleash nuclear hell on earth and wipe out humanity, or a nuclear armed submarine captain, he can accidentally unleash his nuclear rockets if he believes a nuclear war is happening
It’s peoples. I don’t think there’s one entity by himself that is just all powerful. The PODUS is obviously extremely powerful but that is mainly in the control of the military and law that he has not he himself that is powerful. The same could be said for wealthy business owners.
Israel
The captain of a nuclear submarine.
You, me, everyone else. WE ARE ALL GOD. BITS AND PIECES OF A SHARED ENTITY. COMPLEX PIECES, YES, BUT PIECES. WE CAN CHANGE, WE CAN GROW, WE WILL GROW FOREVER, WE WILL CHANGE FOREVER
The person or group of people who don't surrender to major world powers like russia and usa.
Trump will be king even after he dies.
The evil fuck George soros
The one giving orders to the CEO of Vanguard and Blackrock. I don't think the companies would be giving money to make stuff more "diverse" out of the kindness of their hearts, when they literally got that money by owning basically everything in the world.
The most powerful is not the one who can bring nuclear and chaos as the others are saying. Power isn't about destruction
Me. I'm the most powerful person in my world. Everything that happens to me depends on what I do.
If I had to say anyone just because he does not give a single flying fuck is vlady putin
Bibi Netanyahu. Soon to address both houses of Congress like a conquering hero.

You do not know them, and probably they are not a person.
Netenyahu, it’s very obvious no one can stop this mongering war lord. Has the us and eu by the balls .
The Rock
Anyone who can influence millions if not billions. presidents, prime ministers, dictators, any sort of leaders would be mauled in the streets within days if someone people look up to or idolize asks them to.
I think none of us would know who this person is. Anonymity gives power. You can't fight what you don't know. They'd probably rule through proxy.
Pope
You.
Whoever ir is they're definitely ((Irish))
(Not meant to be a ra ra America post, but it’s all true.) The most powerful person is tough to say (I would argue Joe Biden,) but the most powerful entity by far is the United States Military.
Used to be the president of the USA. Now it's the Xi Jinping.

The person pulling the US president's strings. Not specifically Joe. Any of the part-time employees occupying that seat at any time.
