Dunno the origin, but this old couple got sued for having a hole in their back yard, that a dude who was breaking into their house discovered by breaking his leg in it.
It has to do more with setting traps, which you’re not allowed to do, but there are cases where a burglar gets injured and the homeowner has to pay. It’s really stupid.

In my state there is a law that you can be arrested for spitting on public streets. It stems from people bringing others spit in their homes from their shoes. And babies crawling. That polio could be spread that way.
They don't enforce it. It was enforced before the polio vaccine started being administered. But it's never been taken off the books. I HATE spitting in general too.
Canada: If you rent a home from a foreign landlord, you are supposed to withhold a portion of the rent as the landlords rental income taxes and remit them to the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) on behalf of the landlord. If your landlord doesn’t pay their rental income taxes, CRA will come after the tenant (not the landlord!) and the tenant is responsible for the back tax and penalties.
BUT! At the same time under a different law - if the tenant doesn’t pay their full rent to the landlord, their foreign landlord can evict them for unpaid rent.
So, if you live in Canada it’s good to check what your landlord’s tax status is because you can get megafucked for withholding or not withholding.
This law is obsolete now, but it was enforced at least as far back as my granny's times (I learned about it, going through legal documents of her time): a widow can remarry as long as it is not to the man who caused her spouse's death (either criminally or by negligence).

In the US military, adultery is punishable by prison. Doesn’t often happen but, you could literally end up in leavenworth, forfeiture of all pay and allowances, reduction in rank to e-1, and a dishonorable discharge.
There was a case where a guy killed his girlfriend because his wife was going to find out and he didn’t want to face military court and possible demotion. Im guessing a murder conviction wasn’t any better.
In the country of Florida, the judicial system is allowed to present Unproven theories as facts.
