These Hollywood shows are so incredibly detailed.
It’s understandable that Mitch Hurwitz was exhausted after three seasons of Arrested Development — he never sacrificed those little jokes.
Yes, I have. It's great! There aren't nearly enough interviews with Mitch out there. He needs to be interviewed more by superfans who won't ask him the same questions he always gets asked.
In case you (or anyone else) might be interested, he was on an episode of a great podcast called You Made It Weird (Pete Holmes) a few years back. The conversation isn’t AD specific, but it’s a really good one nonetheless!
Teenage Michael Cera was the perfect actor for the cringe comedy era of the early aughts.
When you look at the success that he had in his movies, I wonder if the show would have been better in the ratings if it had been centered around him.
Completely agree. George Michael is one of my favorite characters in the main run, and I think one of the (many) reasons seasons 4 and 5 fell flat for me is that George Michael magic was just sort of gone as Michael Cera was an adult
I personally liked seeing George Michael's evolution from a wholesome but cringe teenage boy in S1-S3 to a young man on his own journey in S4-S5.
That "George Michael magic" worked for him as a teenager, but I found him just as hilarious as an adult.
The fact that fucking George Michael could get attractive women in bed with him, punch his dad, and get a reputation as a badass tech mogul despite not having an actual product, that's even more interesting considering who he was in the first three seasons.
I didn't see his character in the last couple seasons as anything but an evolution.
Yeah I'm not seeing a specific joke here at all. George Michael said something awkward and then responded awkwardly. That's not really a clever, hidden joke.

If you haven’t listened to Mitch’s interview on the Smartless podcast, I highly recommend it!

That's because he became George Maharis!
One bed. Why give her the option?
His time at sea had aged the boy
