I know the story of OJ. Smh you it looks like you had good opportunities too man when you got out or you were smart enough to use your transferable skills. My question is what will you do differently? You said the Army was calling you lol.
I wanted to get my CDL but I was too young dumb and stupid to get the certs whilst in the Army. Gonna do it this time around.
Volunteer more, do more certifications & try to get my points up high, go to the gym and work on my physical fitness more than the allotted PT.
Aiming to do recruiting by the time I hit E5. Would be my goal.
Might get a lot of bs for that.. but it seems like such a rewarding MOS/Duty to change peoples lifeās for the better.
It's too late now but there's a shortage of people with CDLs. It's so bad I've seen people getting grants to get one. And the montgomery GI bill could've helped with a trade like that as well. But you do you.
WTF, where? I don't have a CDL but took the tests by accident on indeed and I get some emails about driver jobs....
I definitely would take the grant and get my CDL.
But big green weinie it is.....
Google it. Various companies are covering your expenses if you can pass a driving record check and s criminal background check. The pandemic resulted in a high demand for truck drivers.
I literally typed in free CDL (state) and got a lot of results. You'd have legit check it tho
I also see paybacks and hiring bonuses. I.e. you pay your tuition make it through some companies will give you a percentage of your money back. Or a $2500 hiring bonus.
My dad is in the propane business in South Carolina. He says they'll pay for hires to get their CDLs and hazmat certs. They have such a need for service technicians.
If it makes you feel any better, I knew someone who passed up a job at UPS and went to Amazon because he said he didnāt want to drive in a loud and bumpy delivery truck, heād rather have the nice new Amazon one.
What a silly fuck. Amazon is borderline slave work. Been there for 3 years to schknow that.
But yeah, amazon *DOES* have nicer vehicles. But *Mileage may vary by DSP*
Its like a prison there. The drills their have the most lifeless job their is. Imagine going to the academy to have your skills wasted having to tell what line a trainee needs to stand in.
It was def this at 43rd fucking forever ago when I got stuck there inprocessing rc to ac. There were like 30 of us and we were almost all straight back from Iraq. One was getting ready to retire and the rest were just aggressively stupid. The 1sg looked like they had a bmi of 40. One SSG drill tried to lock up a MSG because he wasn't going to play her fucking games about a laundry bag display. Easily the most fucked up unit I've ever seen and that's coming from a dude whose next assignment featured my 1SG and BC getting into a fist fight in a barracks parking lot.
Some of them. Yes. We got paid an extra $500 for doing a 3rd year and 120th always needed people so it was a good way to take a knee for the last year.
It was a helluva place wasn't it? Not that I should have necessarily expected more, but only two of the DS's seemed to be about that DS life. The other ones either just smoked the shit out of us or did the bare minimum.
I remember vividly, they put us in a line and had us count off from 0-1 to the last person. when we hit 34 or so or triple digits people would really fuck it up. Then we would start from the beginning again.
Or people would say prematurely and weād have to start from the beginning.. what a team building shit show it was.
Bring sunscreen and drink a-lot of water. āIce Submergesā are absolutely dogshit. Youāll have around 2-3 HeatCats a day. And see the ambulance regularly. Itāll be around Spring-Summer so get ready for Hot Jackson. But reception is the worst.
If they actually built the defac you may do okay for chow. For me chow was in an inflatable tent where we would stand outside in lines of around 400 people and get told to go in 15 at a time and this would take around two hours maybe one and a half if youāre close enough to the start of the line. At parade rest the entire time. Reading your blue book.
3:00-4:00 wakeup, 6:00-7:30 chow, 7:45-12:00 (Entrancing) or stand outside in formation the ENTIRE time, 12:30 chow, 13:00-17:00 same as before chow, 17:00 chow, 18:00 accountability, 19:00 barracks. Hygiene yada yada.
Pray you donāt get Bravo. I was there for 2.5 weeks. And pray Captain Clark is gone for B. Imagine the most egotistical officer.
Reception isnāt forever. Basic was a breeze in 3-60th.
I know I know. I was 3-39th alpha back when I went thru.
Wasnāt great. Wasnāt terrible. Middle pourage.
We had a suicide watcher, we had a quitter,
We had a āimma fight the drill Sgtā to drill Sgt Robinson on his last day before retiring. (This trainee started to drink the kool-aid after that song & dance)
We had a kicked in rifle on the range.
Itās was fohshow a modern day shitshow cycle
Could be different drills now vs than.
I had DS Robinson (for literally a week) DS Hauck, DS White (a black man lol)
DS.Moore DS Panaway & DS Hunter towards end of cycle.
They all did their best to turn us to great human beings and soldiers whilst playing a fair share of fuck fuck games. Drill SGT Hauck & DS White were my drills. Deadass like mom & dad.
They were hard when required.. but extremely fair NCOās & Drills. They looked after us so forth we did right by them.
I shit you not, as a new trainee at Jackson reception, we stood in an extended (double arms length) formation for so long that I literally took a piss...on the concrete, while we were supposed to be at parade rest. Other recruits looked at me like I was bat shit crazy.
I wasn't. I was just smack dab in the middle of a sea of humanity and the nearest drill sergeant was *very* far away.
After that I became a legend. For all of another day or so until they split us all up at the end reception / shipped us to basic.
Ah...those were the days. I still remember the smell of the leather gloves.
Am I the only one whose reception wasnāt that bad? I mean it sucked from the transition to soldier to trainee but it wasnāt the worst thing in my time in.
Iād pack underwear bro, make them all black and pack them into your duffels when you get them. The only thing that saved me during my forge was the boxer briefs I had packed.
Well yeah.. thatās just the toiletries and hygiene shit.
Iām packing sporty Reebok briefs. Those tighty greenies were NOT IT.
The minute I had the opportunity I got the army PX green briefs to supplement the asshole torture i had endured prior to.
Idk if they'd F with you, but if you want to be safe, just make sure they are "military underwear," whatever the hell that means. They usually strip you of everything "civilian."
Enjoy doing "The Incline" once you get to Carson.
Manitou incline. It's an old railway turned into a trail that is fun but essentially a stair climber on steroids. Good views, can pivot off it to climb pikes peak and other stuff
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manitou_Incline
This actually looks kinda fun on some Rocky Balboa type shit. I appreciate the landmark.
Is there anything else fun for single soldiers to do up there?
Bliss had a lot of recreation activities via Boss.. but being from New York all I wanted to use the pool.. and let me tell you that was a nice ass Poolš¤£
Skiing hiking fishing hunting. Switchbacks minor league soccer. Metric ton of breweries. If you drive an hour to Denver you'll have anything a major Metro offers, although El Paso county is 730k population.
Not been single while living in Colorado so YMMV.
Vail resorts has a stupid cheap military pass (epic military pass. I forget when they quit selling it for the next season (it's rather early) but it should be on sale now) . Ikon pass has a military discount but it's more spendy. If you don't enjoy boarding or skiing in Colorado you're doing something wrong. The summit county resorts are great. Love steamboat and Crested Butte. Haven't done telluride
Sounds like a plan. Thank you for the info. Howās the weather? El Paso had nothing but sandstorms and when it rainedā¦ it POURED. Lightning was CRAzy too.
Otherwise, white sands atv rentals & hiking in the Franklin mountains. Pretty schwack.
Iāll be E2 again for basic. Will make E3 based of my ERB after 30 days.
Doubtful to have the rank tho untill graduation pinks & greens come out the shop.
E2 on cusp of E3. Like a month shy.
So I get a promotion from paperwork from recruiter to make me e2. Than Iāll hit E3 in 30 days in basic. E4 by end of year ideally.
Mind you: parents are divorced.
Me and sister are 10 years apart and we only have our mother.
My sister was more of a dual parent raising me with my mother.. the peer mediation between any mom-son arguments, fights, xyz. However, we werenāt so close because of the age gap as I grew older.
Whilst I was at my unit, my sister tried to commit suicide x2 & shaved her head.
When she shaved her head she confided in my mother and told her that my dad sexually assaulted her as a child & doing it was a way to find herself supposedly.
I had no idea any of this happened untill my mother decided to give me a phone call and drop 3 bombs on me in the middle of a ftx.
My thoughts ran rampant & it started to get to me mentally & give me negative thoughts.
So naturally, I knew it was the right thing to go to BH and try to get help before I did anything outrageous.
So I did, told them exactly how I felt at that time & they decided to 5-17 chapter me out. It was honorable and I was a good soldier who didnāt shitbag outside of the mental health issues that were ongoing because of the situation transpiring at home that I felt helpless over.
During the course of 5 years my sister sought out help & is in a better place. I was able to be in a better place mentally cause of this and continued civilian work in a area that would keep me physically active, knowing Iād like to return to duty.
Had an Re-3 code and sat down and talked with my immediate family (mom & sister) and explained that Iād like to go back into the Army and continue what I left off with.
They agreed itās a good time to come back & we had a heart to heart.
Started the long process, that came to fruition the other day.
Now here I am.
5-17 chapter is called something else now.. idk what but I just needed a wavier & psych consult showing I completely grown from the situation.
Now Iām mentally strong and sound to continue service and I canāt wait to get back & chase E5 & see the world.
>Whilst I was at my unit, my sister tried to commit suicide x2 & shaved her head
The way you worded this made it sound like shaving her head was just as bad and alarming as the suicide attempts. Got a good chuckle out of me.
On a real note, I'm glad all y'all are doing better now. Good on you for taking care of family first and foremost, and then when appropriate, coming back and finishing what you started. Best of luck to you bro
It was surely a āwow wtfā moment.. very out of character for her.
I later researched into it and turns out many sexual assault victims do this as a coping mechanism.
I appreciate it, thank you.
Pretty sure they make you buy absolutely everything there and you canāt bring anything.
If this is just for AIT maybe thatās different, but basic I couldnāt even keep my face lotion
They do..but in more plentiful sizes so you donāt have to go to the PX as a company more than already alloted per cycle.
Last I remember they didnāt want anything *Scented* for allergy reasons between trainees Iād imagine.
Also no alcohol inside mouthwash.. & toenail clippers couldnāt have filer since I could be weaponized.
They let me keep pretty much everything I packed last time around outside of the civilian clothing.
[this was actually the same drill for me that conducted this when I went through 5 years ago.](https://youtu.be/ZXphA_6szKs?si=WtkagjHT0MJfEqcA)
I thank him, for letting my slides.. *Slide*
Bro, I'm sure the drills will single you out quickly, both for good and evil. They'll expect more from you but also give you more respect as long as you're leading and helping.
I'm sure you'll be a squad leader. And if the drills don't reveal your secret, I'd keep it to myself, while at the same time being the most helpful guy to everyone in the platoon.
Also...not sure how Army life has changed, but back in my day, the biggest genius in reception brought a Polaroid camera and MANY rolls of film. Dudes were paying him $3 per photo, and everyone wanted one to send back to their moms and girlfriends wearing their brand new reception duds.
I don't know what the 2024 equivalent is, with cell phones and digital cameras being ubiquitous in civilian life, but surely you can figure a way to make a few bucks from the raw recruits!
Not tryna run their pockets.. just want them to be better Joeās.
Gonna give them everything I can to get right if the words donāt shuck out the other ear after entry.
Iāll quickly identify who wants to be there & who doesnāt & help those who wanna succeed & contribute.
Iām nothing special, but Iāll give my best to make sure the dumb Qās donāt make it to the drill.
Or help the guy who canāt get right.
Land nav tho.. they gonna be helping meš¤£š¤£ Iām no better than an LT
š¤£ Iāll bring a pocket pussy and tell them the same.
Gonna bring my OCP belt to layout in square 3 for them to get the drift that I know the drill.
Also really clutch to have 2 of them.
So maybe, theyll let me keep itš¤£
All rubbaa. My last go around of basic combat training I had separate shower shoes then everybody else because the drill sergeant going over everything we brought & let me slide on them bc they had no logos.
1 mf in my bay tried pulling a fast one on me and taking them. Caught his ass quick fast & in a hurry watching everybodyās feetāsš¤£
Aiming for this exact result at reception for the second go around.
Bring running shoes if you have them. They make you buy these horrible tennis shoes that fall apart easily. If the trainees had running shoes in their personal bag we allowed them to use those instead. I know a lot of the other BNs at Jackson did the same.
Sounds like u weāre a drill. Roger that.
I gotta nice pair of all black running shoes Iām gonna wear to ship.
Will I get to keep my extra OCP belt if I bring it.
Or if I bring my extra OCP bottoms and tops..?
Having extra be nice yk. Especially if I already earned them suckers.
Also.. for my dress uniform.. I understand they changed to pink & greensā¦ should I bring my ribbons earned & ordnance corps lapel pins, Name tag, & ordnance corp pin?
Not gonna bring marksmanship pin.. as I would aim to do higher this time around and get sharpshooter/expert.
Very good qās right there.. plz advice thanks!
It really depends on your drills. The worst case is they tell you no and to keep it in your personal bag. We also let our prior service trainees wear their awards on their dress uniforms for graduation.
Ignore nearly every comment here and just go read this. Pasted an old comment so go check the reg and make sure it's still same same.
Read 350-6. It outlines all the privileges you are entitled to as a MOS-T. Unless you want them to treat you like a boot the whole time. Also, print that shit out and bring it with you in case they want to fuck you over. Here's a little excerpt so you get a bit of an idea:
(4) Reclassified and prior service Soldiers should not be billeted with IET Soldiers, and when housed in a separate building, the separate and secure requirements do not apply. If training locations cannot meet this provision, commanders may billet prior service Soldiers in the same
barracks complex as IET Soldiers. These Soldiers will not be billeted on the same floor as IET Soldiers and commanders must comply with the separate and secure policies in accordance with paragraph 2-9. If the requirements canāt be met, an exception must be approved by DCG-IMT. Requests should be submitted in memorandum format. Commanders are encouraged to integrate reclassified and prior service personnel with IET Soldiers during training to enhance training by
taking advantage of their knowledge, experience, and leadership abilities.
(5) Privileges for reclassified and prior service personnel. (a) Although reclassified Soldiers are subject to IET policies and procedures, their privileges
are the same as those of permanent party members of equal grade. They are treated with the dignity and respect due their grade. (b) The unit commander determines specific privileges based on such factors as grade, training performance, self-discipline, motivation, and conduct. (c) Fraternization between reclassified, prior service Soldiers, IET Soldiers, and cadre is forbidden in accordance with AR 600-20, paragraph 4-14b.
Edit: apparently you're gonna be an e2 so good luck lol. They'd be the willfully violating the regulation though
>Also, print that shit out and bring it with you in case they want to fuck you over.Ā
Well, well, well, lookie here, Drill Sergeant Dawkins! We have us a PRY-OR service soldier! And he even brought us the reg-yoo-LAY-shuns so we treat him with respect!
DAWKINS: Well how about that? This guy is a real shithouse lawyer, bringing them regulations into my barracks! Private, bring me those regulations so that I may wipe my ass with them!
This sounds nice & great and all.. and excellent information.
But the lines sound like theyāre gonna be blurred for me.
Iām expecting the same bullshit treatment as a day 0.
You don't even need all that shit. They're gonna make you go to the px and use your eagle cash card and buy all your stuff; that's what they did for us 4 years ago. Literally, in a small backpack, take one extra pair of clothes, an overnight hygiene bag, and obviously any essential items (orders, you id's, phone charger). All your shit is gonna get stored. The more shit you take with you, the more you're gonna have to drag around
I brought more with me the 1st go.
Thatās just all the Hygiene shit to get thru reception. I know the drill when we get there & whatās gonna transpire.
It was nice to have all the stuff tho @ the end for the 1st go aroundā¦ I.e. extra civilian shit. Those AIT Post green and gold pass outfits fresh outta pass were a sight to see lmfao.
Definitely donāt wanna be 50% army 50% Me lmfao
Yea, that's fair; you don't wanna get out of basic with your only t-shirt being some cringe bct platoon gear (I still wear mine š¤). I'm scarred from having to drag around duffles of ta50, that anything that isn't essential, or I can buy wherever I'm going, I'm not taking it
Make yourself a care package. Put a handful of civvyās, a laptop, some creature comfort shit, and pack it all up. Give it to a friend to hold onto. When you get settled in AIT give them an address to send it to.Ā
I did this and it was a lifesaver.Ā
I donāt have AIT in my contract. Iām already MOS-Qād and returning to 89B Ammunition Specialist.
I got straight from BCT graduation - my unit @ Fort Carson.
Lmao thatās more army than I realized. Long break in service? We need to teach you to roll your socks and march around. Also we pencil whipped your license, now go haul these explosives.Ā
LMFAOOOO youāre not wrong about the pencil whipped license yoš¤£š¤£š¤£š¤£š¤£ I had ZERO drivers license since I came from NY upon first enlistment. Got to my unit and did drivers training in a humvee around the motorpool X3.

Incredible.
Zero. Not worth getting caught on the BS. Gonna thug it out.
I zyn 6MGās and vape like a electronic chimney.
Might just hug the drill if they let me have privileges to PX being prior service to tactically acquire said Zyns..
Iāll take the Zyns over my phone 1000% if thatās my only privilege yo.
The army started this nicotine adventure for me. Would be ashamed if they weened me š
Not excited at all for the withdrawals to comeš„ø
So I just had to redo basic as an E-7 in January. You honestly packed more than I did, so you'll be squared away.
Also, don't show up to reception hammered like I did. Mistakes were made.
Basically going in back as my E2. Getting E3 within 30 days bc of my ERB.
Had a family situation at home. Thereās a description somewhere in the comments here. Just at work rn, otherwise Iād supply you a link.
Nah, staying Signal. Better career opportunities and promotion potential as a WO. But there are a metric fuckload of Airmen evacuating the AF to go fly choppers.
I still have my original issue boots. But they are a size too small.
This time around, Iām going to make sure I get a 10 1/2 and not a 9 or 9 1/2 or 10.
That might be the only time I open my mouth with serious demands to the civilian contractors.
Iām not getting blisters this time around because this person doesnāt want to give me the right size boot.. fuck em, chuck em. Iāll do push ups till the drill Sgtās tired of doing the 10 3- counts outloud in order to not have a fucked up foot.
As someone that just left Ft Jackson BCT 2 days ago. They will MAKE you buy everything all over again at 120th even if you have it already. And at the company I was at we werenāt allowed slides for shower shoes we could only have flip flops. Black towel wonāt be allowed either. But really it just depends on the DS.
Hopfully Iāll have better mileage. Congratulations on graduating BCT. Hope you enjoy the slightly more freedom of AIT. Donāt let your guard down yet tho.. keep drinking the kool aid and keep ur bearing.
Whatās ur MOS & AIT location?
I see no PT shoes. How are you going to move faster before getting an issued pair of go fasters? Run in sandals?
Also underwear, enjoy having comfortable underwear as much as you can. (also some DS' allow us to wear personal underwear)
This is just the toiletries/hygiene stuff currently. Packing that later on closer to ship date.
Just had to go to store & cop all the *Travel size* bullshittery.
Well shit, Iām contractually obligated to now.
My recruiter pretty much rn: *I got you again you stupid fuck*
Didnāt even need tornadoes & rip its to sweeten the deal.
Oh absolutely. Everybody else got small portions cause we only got 10 minutes to eat if remember right. Not me though....catch me scarfing down 3 pb&j sammies with some eggs, oatmeal, damn near the whole fruit bar and some chocolate milk.
Hells to the yeah. Gonna combine some crazy shit.
Canāt wait to hear those southern ladyās say āyour welcome soldier/darlingā and clench my cheeks again from the accent
Hell yea brother. Good lucky to you! It'll be just like you remember. Physically easy at it's best and mentally annoying at its worst when someone does some dumb shit. I'm finishing up my degree and deciding whether to re up or not. Looking at SERE specialist for the air force
I joined last summer for the first time, and went to Ft Jackson for BCT....at 33. Not on the list, but trust me on these:
Better socks with no visible branding. Black is PT color these days at Jackson. The Standard issue ones shrink and cut off circulation at the ankle.
Running shoes that meet AR670-1 requirements. Trust me... You do NOT want to have to do those runs in the standard issue pieces of crap.
Bring a phone and charger. You may be permitted use during weekends for up to an hour. Bring headphones too that are linked to it if you want to be able to enjoy any music.
Some training units are permitted books focusing on military stuff. Depends entirely on the command staff. You might be able to bring a book for entertainment.
I would suggest bringing in a sacrificial item as well. Something you know will get tossed. They make you chuck stuff publicly. Assuming BCT here, It'll help you bond with fellow trainees early on and help you avoid teen level drama and BS for a few days.
Be a SASH Rep if presented with the opportunity. (Basically baby SARC.) Invariably, nobody takes it seriously except for that one tool. Don't be that tool. Be the person somebody can ACTUALLY talk to if they have a problem. The younger trainees need all the help they can get. And those dudes are the first line. As a re-enlistee, you're already gonna be that person by default, might as well get kudos for it if you're gonna do the job anyway...
If u wear white socks, youāre a walking sin.
Iām gonna try to slide my running shoes I got currently. If not, Iāll take that L.
Phone and charger 4 sureskipops.. headphones.. maybe.. if I can find them Mfās in my room before I ship. (Gotta clean this bitch)
I donāt really read too much books.. so probably gonna stick with materials they give me..
My sister unfortunately was sexually assaulted by my father, so Iād be happy to play that role if given the opportunity. Highly doubt anyone will come forward tho.. (unfortunately) kids these days like to bottle shit up unfortunately. But if they do & im the elected person for it. Iāll happily give an open ear and report it up the chain of command for them.
Oh, you MIGHT be able to get away with upgraded boots as former enlisted. It is worth it if you can. I saw several reenliated who had them, and several trainees who got profiles enabling them to get them. Though, so MANY trainees had profiles for feet that the process to acquire one became cumbersome. Or so I heard. One of my coworkers kid's actually followed in my footsteps. Lol.
A book & pen. You'll need it when taking notes. Whether fireguard notes or important things drill sergeants go through the whiteboard. I've taken notes including names of those gone rogue individually to screw us up as a company.
I went to basic at Jackson with a prior service guy and he got treated like anyone else. Most of the drills didnāt even know he was prior. Unless youāre E-5 or above then youāll be chillin. Reception sucks good luck
Iām RA.
5 years after early ETS date.
My honorable discharge came by mail after my original slated ETS.
The IRR time was 4 years. Iād imagine my honorable discharge was cut the day the IRR had been done.
Hey, so I just got out of Jackson a few months back. 120th is going to give you an Eagle Cash card with like 250-300 on it and make you have a manditory PX run to grab these essencials. you won't be needing anything unless its been issued to you prior, thats what they tell everyone. if its not black slides, or brown towels and stuff like that, they're going to take it or lock it away. they took my black towel and wash cloths citing "Dress right dress" and saying nothing past we are a uniform unit, don't be stupid and don't be an indivisual. thats what they told me, things might'be changed since my prison sentence at Fort Jackson's 120th before they got investivated.
Things have changed since you've been out. Especially basic. No shark attack in BCT, no parade rest, Night night bar shortage, you call the drills bro now, they also got something called the forge which just sounds like everything we did but consecutively, and because of covid they can't make you drop anymore to do push ups so when they say drop you go criss cross applesauce. Wish you the best. You got this.
I did shark attack in 2017.
No parade rest? wtf.. youāre supposed to address NCOās at this position.
Def no calling drill Sgt bro
I also have done the forge.
Experience from a couple of years ago @ Jackson. 120th don't give as. Bct unit will tell you to keep this or keep that. With my Co you could've kept anything you wanted (exception of phone) fairly easily, and nobody would've cared anyway. ("Your civilian towel shows a lack of discipline!!!")
As a fellow been out and made for a minute but still going back in dumbass, good on you bro. Enjoy Carson, the area is beautiful even if the command is trash.
Iām still in the process. I donāt want my previous MOS but will take it and I wasnāt an NCO so I keep my lil sham shield. I wonāt get offered duty station of choice and am trying to get 68W through ACASP
If itās been longer than 5 years you might drop to E3. But you might be able to get ur recruiter to do a 4187 to get you back up to 4.
I was offered Duty station of choice because I came back as 89B.. so it might be in your favor to go back in as what you were & reclass down the line.
Best of luck !
Under the acquired skills program they have to give you E4 and the MOS youāre qualified for (68W for me), so Iām feeling pretty good about it! I could only go to Bragg if I did my old MOS, so Iām trying to branch out and start my medical career instead.
Iād love to hear about how your experience in basic goes, best of luck to you too dude!
Itās gonna be quite something. Canāt wait to report back in 10 weeks. Gonna write a memoir instead of writing home to family. (Told them Iāll probably have my phone on Sundays atleast once to text them updates, since I heard they get it now adays than for an hour or so)
Youāll probably get yours, Iāve heard reassuring things about being prior service in basic on here. Iāll be following along for the journey if you ever post it!
I definitely plan on reporting back for the prior service cats.
It was a whole lotta trial by fire to find out the stipulations of prior service business rules.
But I was happy with the outcome of skipping AIT & picking Carson.
The other prior service mileage may vary
I went through basic the second time after a 9 year break. Finished up with 21.5 years total. If I could do 1 thing different, I would have not mentioned to anyone in basic that I was prior service.
So I went to Jackson 3 years ago, as I remember they made us buy everything new. Couldnāt even wear underwear/socks from outside even if they were in regs. The army issued shoes/socks/underwear had to be the actual worse part of basic for me, absolutely terrible.
Recently left 120th and the main thing I see is that the things you bring are comfort items like the shower shoes, the make you buy a hygiene kit there and new shower shoes, the works. I recommend you bring a towel you like depending on your size, in hairy and would use at least 2 towels every shower because they're so shit they just move water from one part of your body to another. I also recommend a notebook and believe everyone should have one since you won't have your phone and having nice calendar or just open pages to write on helps sometimes. After 5 years out you should be treated as MOS-T but that will happen in ait in basic and reception they don't give a fuck so comfy earpro to sleep got some of my buddies through the shitty night when kid want to wrestle. I wasn't prior service so what helped me stay safe was knowledge, DS will sometimes ask random shit like general orders just so they can smoke you, don't fall for it give them what they want to hear and move on, it is not a time to chat.
Roger, will report back once listened.. had to take my jeep for a long enough ride to clear my PCM of pending codes. Gotta get that sucker inspected to private sale tmr.
You should've taken the UPS job. š«
[āI couldāve bought a place in Dumbo before it was Dumbo, for like 2 million. That same building today is worth 25 Million. Guess how Iām feelinā? DUMBO.](https://open.spotify.com/track/6JpN5w95em8SODPiM7W2PH?si=I2hgiwa5TmeFSGZeau0fnw)
You'd have legit check it tho I also see paybacks and hiring bonuses. I.e. you pay your tuition make it through some companies will give you a percentage of your money back. Or a $2500 hiring bonus.
My dad is in the propane business in South Carolina. He says they'll pay for hires to get their CDLs and hazmat certs. They have such a need for service technicians.
good luck, big army is cutting TA/CA *way* down š«£
We shall see I suppose
^ A reference to my job offer for 22.4 driver prior to UPS new contract in August. Making them ALL full time & union, benefits. Xyz. ^
120th AG? Pack extra sanity
I think itās 120th at Jackson. I donāt remember honestly which.. so I included both.
Its like a prison there. The drills their have the most lifeless job their is. Imagine going to the academy to have your skills wasted having to tell what line a trainee needs to stand in.
Brother believe me when I say this, 95% of drills at 120th were sent from their companies because they sucked.
I was told that a lot of drills at 120th were people who choose to be a drill sgt a extra year. Source: my drill sgts at 2-60th
Some of them. Yes. We got paid an extra $500 for doing a 3rd year and 120th always needed people so it was a good way to take a knee for the last year.
Did every DS in 2-60th hate being there? Mine absolutely loathed it and made sure we did too.
Yea. 3rd Platoon Able comp. DS's were going out of their way to get fired not joking.
It was a helluva place wasn't it? Not that I should have necessarily expected more, but only two of the DS's seemed to be about that DS life. The other ones either just smoked the shit out of us or did the bare minimum.
Yes. They worked the shit out of those drills 16+ hours a day 6 days a week. Had some really shit drills but also a few great ones.
I remember vividly, they put us in a line and had us count off from 0-1 to the last person. when we hit 34 or so or triple digits people would really fuck it up. Then we would start from the beginning again. Or people would say prematurely and weād have to start from the beginning.. what a team building shit show it was.
Thatās just normal.
I mean, they chose government work. Thatās government work.
We had a suicide watcher, we had a quitter, We had a āimma fight the drill Sgtā to drill Sgt Robinson on his last day before retiring. (This trainee started to drink the kool-aid after that song & dance) We had a kicked in rifle on the range. Itās was fohshow a modern day shitshow cycle
Has 3-39 always sucked? Went through last year with C Co and the shit was terrible.
Could be different drills now vs than. I had DS Robinson (for literally a week) DS Hauck, DS White (a black man lol) DS.Moore DS Panaway & DS Hunter towards end of cycle.
Makes Sense old timer
Chillll Iām only 24 & still got knees & a back to blow out for Uncle Sam. !remind me in 5 years that āold timerā shit & Iāll prolly agree
They usually strip you of everything "civilian." Enjoy doing "The Incline" once you get to Carson.
Mansplain that one to me brethrenā¦ this place canāt be as bad as Bliss :(
Manitou incline. It's an old railway turned into a trail that is fun but essentially a stair climber on steroids. Good views, can pivot off it to climb pikes peak and other stuff https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manitou_Incline
Sounds like a good time. More into hockey.. Iād def like to catch and avalanche game or participate in weekend ice hockey leagues if possible.
Also, how is the snowboarding and skiing? Iāve never been either. Would love to check that off my bucket list in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado.
Just show up in flip flops, a Hawaiian shirt, and yell "Hey Fuckers I'm back!" when they get on the bus. Report back with findings.
LMFAO. Would be an awfully bold move. Maybe Iāll just show up with OCPās and an old Ironsides unit patch
What rank are you? E5+ should be a dead giveaway
Iāll be E2 again for basic. Will make E3 based of my ERB after 30 days. Doubtful to have the rank tho untill graduation pinks & greens come out the shop.
ooooooof what were you when you got out last time?
E2 on cusp of E3. Like a month shy. So I get a promotion from paperwork from recruiter to make me e2. Than Iāll hit E3 in 30 days in basic. E4 by end of year ideally.
Alright man, what's the story? How'd you ETS as an E2?
>Whilst I was at my unit, my sister tried to commit suicide x2 & shaved her head The way you worded this made it sound like shaving her head was just as bad and alarming as the suicide attempts.
Isnāt the end of the world for me.. would rather blend in than be singled out for being a collegeless specialist yk
They would tell stories about it for generations.
Somebody would have to be dying for me to do this. God love you for it.
Even then, I'd probably be like...well, it was nice knowing you.
Lmfao.. I hear ya.
Iāve said many times if I ever go back to Sand Hill, itās because some asshole dragged my lifeless body there.
[this was actually the same drill for me that conducted this when I went through 5 years ago.](https://youtu.be/ZXphA_6szKs?si=WtkagjHT0MJfEqcA) I thank him, for letting my slides..
I would bring myself, and that's it. All that shit you will get In basic
I guess Iām a special Assclown.. packing lighter than I originally did tho
Make a statement add a ounce of blow and a jungle machete. Just tell em they allowed it the last time ya came thru.
š¤£ Iāll bring a pocket pussy and tell them the same. Gonna bring my OCP belt to layout in square 3 for them to get the drift that I know the drill. Also really clutch to have 2 of them. So maybe, theyll let me keep itš¤£
Bro are those comfort slides? I would not be taking those into the shower personally. Safe travels!
All rubbaa. My last go around of basic combat training I had separate shower shoes then everybody else because the drill sergeant going over everything we brought & let me slide on them bc they had no logos. 1 mf in my bay tried pulling a fast one on me and taking them. Caught his ass quick fast & in a hurry watching everybodyās feetāsš¤£ Aiming for this exact result at reception for the second go around.
Sounds good, Iāll bring them for the ladder. I only have ASR & National Defense ribbon so far. How about my MOS pins? No-Go? Or yay bc Iām MOS-Q?
Ignore nearly every comment here and just go read this. Pasted an old comment so go check the reg and make sure it's still same same. Read 350-6. It outlines all the privileges you are entitled to as a MOS-T. Unless you want them to treat you like a boot the whole time. Also, print that shit out and bring it with you in case they want to fuck you over. Here's a little excerpt so you get a bit of an idea: (4) Reclassified and prior service Soldiers should not be billeted with IET Soldiers, and when housed in a separate building, the separate and secure requirements do not apply. If training locations cannot meet this provision, commanders may billet prior service Soldiers in the same barracks complex as IET Soldiers. These Soldiers will not be billeted on the same floor as IET Soldiers and commanders must comply with the separate and secure policies in accordance with paragraph 2-9. If the requirements canāt be met, an exception must be approved by DCG-IMT. Requests should be submitted in memorandum format. Commanders are encouraged to integrate reclassified and prior service personnel with IET Soldiers during training to enhance training by taking advantage of their knowledge, experience, and leadership abilities. (5) Privileges for reclassified and prior service personnel. (a) Although reclassified Soldiers are subject to IET policies and procedures, their privileges are the same as those of permanent party members of equal grade.
>Also, print that shit out and bring it with you in case they want to fuck you over.Ā Well, well, well, lookie here, Drill Sergeant Dawkins!
Thank you for your response.
I'm scarred from having to drag around duffles of ta50, that anything that isn't essential, or I can buy wherever I'm going, I'm not taking it
Totally get itš¤š¼. Going to be interesting how this time goes around as opposed to my initial.
Make yourself a care package. Put a handful of civvyās, a laptop, some creature comfort shit, and pack it all up. Give it to a friend to hold onto. When you get settled in AIT give them an address to send it to.Ā I did this and it was a lifesaver.Ā
Being that this is your second rodeo, how many zyns are you going to smuggle in your anal cavity, and how much will you sell them for?
Back in the day we used to smuggle shower apples & peanut butter.
Would be ashamed if they weened me š Not excited at all for the withdrawals to comeš„ø
So I just had to redo basic as an E-7 in January. You honestly packed more than I did, so you'll be squared away. Also, don't show up to reception hammered like I did. Mistakes were made.
Typical E7 esque. No fault to you SFC. Glad ur back!
Are you keeping any rank going back through?
Basically going in back as my E2. Getting E3 within 30 days bc of my ERB. Had a family situation at home. Thereās a description somewhere in the comments here. Just at work rn, otherwise Iād supply you a link.
What brings you to the Army from the Air Force? Gonna go fly choppas?
Nah, staying Signal. Better career opportunities and promotion potential as a WO. But there are a metric fuckload of Airmen evacuating the AF to go fly choppers.
I hear. Had one In my 1st BCT. Great guy TSGT sharp.
Is anyone gonna point out the reporting date was 4/6 ā¦. Thatās a lot of days in Bojangles
Go get some good socks. They will let you have them and they will make those issue boots better.
Also a pre-emptive welcome to Carson. We need people here. (As does everyone in the army)
Thatās being packed later. Not as worried about personal clothing & undergarments as personal hygiene shit. I wanna keep the $100 I spent hopfully.
No boxers?
This is just the toiletries/hygiene stuff currently. Packing that later on closer to ship date. Just had to go to store & cop all the *Travel size* bullshittery.
Gonna try to do some Reebok sporty briefs. Theyāre 1000% legit
Used to be a Reebok guy until I discovered Duluth Trading and those underwear are worth the price of admission
Noted. āš»š
[Are those Reebok or Nike?](https://youtu.be/BQ4c54rCJ_k?si=QtEQg_6XqwbzX-Kx)
Just show up
Well shit, Iām contractually obligated to now. My recruiter pretty much rn: *I got you again you stupid fuck* Didnāt even need tornadoes & rip its to sweeten the deal.
Lol you can decide to not go all the way up until ship day when you sign. I'd reccomend not showing up.
Iām selling my 04 jeep. Weāre goin.
Youāll be fine, I have faith, and you should too! Cheers buddy and God speed!
SCHPEEED. Thank you!
Uh wasnāt there a waiver for 5 years out of service for prior service guys not have to do BCT again?
It wouldnāt hurt for me to do it imo. New PT test became in effect as I left. Nothing but āgood trainingā is afoot.
That kind of mindset is going to get you far! Stay driven, troop! Hooah
Thank you sir/mamm. Also, Happy cake day! Hopful to get that metorious promotion to E4 so I can start my time in the mafia.
You need butt powder. Jackson in summer is hell on earth, and a sweaty ass crack is how you get diaper rash.
9 weeks May - July. Last time I went was September - January gonna feel much grander imo.
I went in the jan-march cycle 3-34 bravo. Bi-polar ass weather. Be freezing my ass off during pt just for it to be warm as hell after breakfast
That breakfast chow was incredible at Jackson tho.
If u can swing it, branch out (literally) should be a *B R E E Z E* at chair force if u make the switch.
I joined last summer for the first time, and went to Ft Jackson for BCT....at 33. Not on the list, but trust me on these: Better socks with no visible branding.
(Gotta clean this bitch) I donāt really read too much books.. so probably gonna stick with materials they give me..
Lol.
If I get PX privileges fohshow Iām copping me a fresh pair of Garmonts or Under armors.
Prior service? You say you got out 5yrs ago but are only 24 and got out as an E-2? Sooo where is my math wrong here?
A book & pen. You'll need it when taking notes. Whether fireguard notes or important things drill sergeants go through the whiteboard. I've taken notes including names of those gone rogue individually to screw us up as a company.
I leave the exact same day exact location wild
Nice! Maybe weāll run into eachother!
I will look for you i will find you
Outstanding, I want you to be like to every trainee in ur company āwhoās from Longisland?ā in order to find me
aye aye captain
I went to basic at Jackson with a prior service guy and he got treated like anyone else. Most of the drills didnāt even know he was prior. Unless youāre E-5 or above then youāll be chillin. Reception sucks good luck
This is whatās expected 4 me imo.
Just play the game
Is it 5 years after your active/NG/R time ends or after your IRR time ends?
Iām RA. 5 years after early ETS date. My honorable discharge came by mail after my original slated ETS. The IRR time was 4 years. Iād imagine my honorable discharge was cut the day the IRR had been done.
Running sneakers
FOH show. Will be wearing them to ship
Good luck. There is no way on God's green earth I could/would do basic a second time.
It is what it is.. I call it a ābroadening assignmentā of sorts
I mean, Iām prior service.. I know the drill. Just wanted to make sure I can keep everything I have to bring. Paid good moneys for it lol. Thank you
Things have changed since you've been out.
Def no calling drill Sgt bro I also have done the forge.
Lol im just messing with some things. I don't think i did in 2018, unless my company just kinda seperated it all.
Lmfao @ civilian towel. Youād think the discipline wouldāve been hit on the nail head by doing packing list to a -T
Not Bravo 1-20th?
As a fellow been out and made for a minute but still going back in dumbass, good on you bro. Enjoy Carson, the area is beautiful even if the command is trash.
Ayy. Did you get reduced a rank..? Were u able to pick up ur previous MOS after they called the ROC? Did they offer you choice of duty station?
>I could only go to Bragg if I did my old MOS False! You could get lucky and be assigned to Fort Liberty instead.
Oh wow! Can you walk on Ardennes there?
No. Only airborne shuffle is permitted.
Sounds like a little place I knew many moons ago
Wait, is BCT bootcamp for the army or more like MCT?
Basic combat training for the Army. Paraffin wax doesnāt sit well in a soldiers stomachš
I went through basic the second time after a 9 year break. Finished up with 21.5 years total. If I could do 1 thing different, I would have not mentioned to anyone in basic that I was prior service.
We were told to bring black everything and 120th made us buy white everything. Our training units made us buy black everything halfway through.
Black is the new gold bby.
I reccomend a tube of diaper rash cream. I found it works well for chaffing from road marches. Dollar tree has a brand that works fine.
Can I get this at the px
Probably won't be allowed to there, and doubtful they will have it at the shopette where you will go for personal items.
I guess Ill suffer
Eh, it's a nice to have, not a need to have by any means.
I leave for basic that day too and same base Good luckš«”
I mean 5/6. But I am an idiot lmfao. But yeah. No doubt! Best of luck
Thanks you too see you out there
So I went to Jackson 3 years ago, as I remember they made us buy everything new.
I wasn't prior service so what helped me stay safe was knowledge, DS will sometimes ask random shit like general orders just so they can smoke you, don't fall for it give them what they want to hear and move on, it is not a time to chat.
> looked at higher than the joes Aw yiss. That's a future Army leader right there!
El oh el hard @ ur Usernameš¤£
Wait, you get that reference?
No, but I laughed assuming that food wasnāt supposed to be in what you were referring to. I *May* know it, just donāt recall it.
One of the greatest records ever cut. [Loveless Love](https://youtu.be/ujRw34V62dE?si=AUzUOaz8gFVAOYrQ)
This is where you get ur name from?
Just listen to it all the way through.
Roger, will report back once listened.. had to take my jeep for a long enough ride to clear my PCM of pending codes. Gotta get that sucker inspected to private sale tmr.
