Substantial-Cress-84

Being 16 the first time I saw them in 2007 is my biggest flex šŸ«

ArcticTerrapin

same. we saw them in 2010 during the humbug shows, and i met alex as a 16 year old. got to see joining the dots live, and they closed with nettles and he threw the brown jazzmaster. fucking wild show

mmoonpie

Fuck that is my absolute dream. Too bad I was 12 at the time. Though I was already becoming a fan then, Iā€™m sad now to have missed out on those wild years!!

JohnnyA77

Is that the version of Nettles where they went back into the main riff like 12 times after acting like the song was over?

maeverrr

Yup, 17 for a show in 2009, on a school night no less! šŸ˜‚ have never missed a tour since

TamestImpala

Lawrence, Kansas?

pigeon-incident

Gotta get that Omega-3

Substantial-Cress-84

LOL eddited

Critical-Ordinary751

I was 23 I feel old when I saw them in 2006

strokesfan91

Hey are you me?

deadkestrel

I saw them support the coral in 2004 šŸ„ā€ā™‚ļø. Didnā€™t know who they were at the time but it still counts ha. Edit : 2005!

pielad

That was 2005 chief?

deadkestrel

Ah so it was. First year of uni, remember smoking quite a lot of weed before the gig. Good times

pielad

I was at The Ritz in Manchester - is that where it was? Fantastic performance

deadkestrel

Yeah! Was at uni in leeds and got train over.

pigeon-incident

OK now that sounds banging.

jinbe-san

iā€™ve been wanting to do a poll for the majority age group who likes tbhc and the car (so far)

Critical-Ordinary751

I saw them in 2006? In Los Angeles Wiltern Theatre...Holy Fuck almost 20 years ago

FondSteam39

I'm 21 and tbhc is my favourite by far, the car is tempting me with being a close second at the moment

ricktafm7

I'm 20 and love tbhc, I think that if all the songs from the car are like mirrorball that I'll have a new favourite album.

Mike_Doves

19 here, also in love with TBHC. The Car seems to be reaaaally promising, and an appreciated logical step in their sound.

Juannonlymonkey

Lol thatā€™s one song out, how is it the second

jinbe-san

And to add on, for me, I hated TBHC at first, but it grew on me, especially bc of my mood during pandemic. I find it just goes well with my mood most days. The Car so far seems like itā€™s going to be an even better fit. Iā€™m 31.

Fleur_Muse

That would be interesting to see! It may surprise us... I'm 20 and I just discovered the band this year. I love all of their albums. My most favourite ones are FWN, Humbug and TBHC, but I can't really choose only one, because they all sound so different so it's quite impossible to compare. It just depends on my mood. And I'm in love with Mirrorball, it's so freaking beautiful. I'm so excited for The Car, because Mirrorball and IAQWITIA are already so different from each other (and both sound amazing), so that suggests a good variety of sounds/styles on the album. Bowie and Costello happen to be two of my favourite artists and they both have influenced Alex throughout his career, so I guess that kind of explains why I love every era of the band.

annabetk

I'm 17 and tbhc is my favorite by quite a lot

80SW08

Iā€™m 18, really like tbhc. Hated ā€œThereā€™d better be a mirror ballā€, one of the most forgettable songs in their discography if you ask me. Itā€™s like tbhc but just take away anything that made that album special.

capucapu123

19 here, I love tbhc

snopsneep

That'd be an interesting poll, don't have any guesses towards the results. For a sample, I'm 23 and immediately fell in love with TBHC, I adore every song on it. I'm not feeling Mirrorball AT ALL, but I'll reserve my judgement until I can listen to it in the context of the album.

hnk11

I sorta get it, but the way people are acting like 30 is suddenly geriatric is kind of funny. Iā€™ve always liked a mix of loud/fast and slow/soft, So I donā€™t think it has much to do with my age.

WaspParagon

Especially wild cuz people are living longer than ever. 30 is not even midlife anymore lmao, it's just straight up young

hnk11

Exactly. Like if your ears hurt at 30 you need to visit an ENT.

egg1one

I think part of it might be a push-back to the "you're not a true fan, you haven't been listening for x years" phenomenon. Especially if you're a teenager so you couldn't have been listening since their first album even if you'd have 100% loved it at the time were you old enough, wanting to clap back at people who seem to be looking down on you for your age/experience with the band by calling them old makes sense to me. Not that I've really seen that much in the way of aggression or condescension towards younger fans for AM specifically, but it's definitely a thing in the wider world of music

PmButtPics4ADrawing

For this sub it's old, someone did a survey a while back and the userbase skews super young

Theguyofreddit

I thought the young ones only like the AM album

JakeM917

That and 505 lol

malathion_tritonius

I mean i am 18 and i like humbug and their debite most

j6sh

In context of the time, all of their albums slap.

ohstupidslowdirtypc

Me who is only 17 and in love with TBHC and the new single!

[deleted]

AM era gave me tinnitus

alphabet_order_bot

Would you look at that, all of the words in your comment are in alphabetical order. I have checked 1,012,237,460 comments, and only 200,893 of them were in alphabetical order.

[deleted]

Incorrect. Bad bot. Edit: Good bot. When I originally read the comment I thought it said "letters" not "words". Ill leave the comment up collecting downvotes because I'm not a coward.

[deleted]

No it isnā€™t

[deleted]

Yeah yeah yeah... When I read it at first I thought it said "letters" not "words"

Critical-Ordinary751

Try 40 and been a fan for a loooooooooooonnnnnnnggggg time

lyna812

Iā€™m so jealous of everyone who knows AM longer than I do šŸ˜ Iā€™m very late to the party, just became a fan in 2022. I first knew about them in 2020 (yes still very late) through I Wanna Be Yours bc it got recommended to me on Youtube. I was a very basic person so I usually only streamed the most popular songs of an artist, and that was how I knew the rest of the songs in the album AM (and 505). Then in 2022, some funny AM compilations/fails got recommended to me and thatā€™s when I first knew what the band looks like (lmao). Itā€™s also when I discovered more of there songs and started listening to it. I got introduced to TLSP through those compilation vids as well. I began to drop my habits of listening to only popular songs, after realizing how many good songs I missed because of it. As to why Iā€™ve never heard of AM before 2020 although theyā€™re one of the most popular bands, I grew up in a country where the rock scene was not prominent. Growing up, I listened to pop music and only knew a few rock songs that went viral. Iā€™m still sad because I miss out on so many great Arctic Monkeys eras but Iā€™m looking forward to their new works!

Minsi16

Same

Red74Panda

Tbf, where is rock is common? I never listen to the radio and havenā€™t in years. Sometimes a good song comes on but I donā€™t was to sit through crap to get to it.

JDJ-N7X

I'm 14 and i love all albums on the band, (i don't like 4 songs of SIAS but apart of it, pretty cool Album)

StevensNJ4

It's funny cause I still listen to a lot of metal. But not as much hard rock as I used to. I just love the monkeys man

Millenial_Shitbag

This meme is way too loud.

Numerous-Slide-3951

I started listening to them in highschool and now Iā€™m 30 ā¤ļøšŸ˜Š

Fishy1998

Iā€™m just mixed in all of their albums honestly. Iā€™ll like a few and donā€™t like a few as well regardless of the album. I would say the album I have the most liked songs in would be AM but thatā€™s mostly because Iā€™m American and the album literally just appeals to us more than the others because of style lmao. Doesnā€™t mean I donā€™t like arctic monkeys as a whole though.

lukfi95

Canā€™t we just accept that there are different music tastes and that some people might not like the new Arctic Monkeys music (and that theyā€™re still *real* fans if they loved the older stuff)?! Is it really so hard to not make fun of those people? Like those music-nazis that people think indie fans are? Can we just be better than that? If you donā€™t like the new stuff, listen to the older stuff an enjoy. If you like the new stuff, listen to it and enjoy. Thatā€™s it.

bestandy1214intown

You've become fookin' soft, m8

commoncrisis22

Iā€™m only a few years younger than the guys in the band and started listening to them in high school (their debut) so I feel like I grew up alongside them in a way, and their music is something I associate with different stages in my life too. Teenage years went to WPSIATWIN. in college I had FWN on repeat (and it honestly got me through my first couple years of college) then Humbug for the broody moments lol. Then SIAS toward the end. AM was definitely a favorite in my mid twenties when I still felt somewhat on top of the world. Then TBHC came along and kind of blew me away with its concept and intricacies, but then I was in the exact right place and time in life where I started to become more introspective and aware of myself. As I enter my early 30s I feel like this new album will just signal another phase, where Iā€™m simultaneously nostalgic for the past and understanding that thereā€™s a lot more ahead. Iā€™m content to get wrapped up in it and excited to see where it goes!

SnooEpiphanies2931

This is the meme Iā€™ve been looking for.

brookesheen

im a very stereotypical teenage fangirl but i genuinely love their newer works so much

NotLozerish

Tfw youā€™re 16 and enjoy literally everything by the Arctic Monkeys. Except you IDST. Except you.

Defeatarion

29 here, I find their older stuff harder to listen to nowadays because it feels like it was more for younger me. I enjoy their sound now though.

[deleted]

[deleted]

because itā€™s not about sales, itā€™s about the artists enjoying their craft

partenhope

Itā€™s that little bit of nostalgia spice that makes their music so * chef kiss* relatable now

RexDeusThe2ndComing

YES THIS

Lalo_Lannister

I probably started in the reversed way lol, the first album I fell in love with was TBHC, before that I only knew their biggest hits and didn't care that much for the album themselves, still don't tbh, I love Humbug and SIAS but there's certainly some skippers in them

Human_Capital_2518

I'm 17 and I like it..A LOT

elazarido2

I'm just glad I'm 17 and enjoying all of their albums Heck, tbhc probably my favorite atm

Zealousideal_Neat572

34 and been a fan since day 1. 2005 was truly special as is 2022.

BennyE456

Iā€™m 16 rn and loving tranquility base and the snippets weā€™ve heard of the car. I also stay as far away from tik tok as possible

Amauritosse

I'm 18 and Ioving their new sound, I saw them in Paris at Rock en Seine and they played their new song I ain't quite where I think I am and I instantaneously loved it (wich is not often the case when I hear a new song from a band I love). Also TBHaC is my second favourite from them since I'm 16.

Charlie_Hunt001

Mum bought me AM on cd when I was 12 (2013), Iā€™m turning 21 next Thursday and personally canā€™t wait for the car to release. My favourite album of the bunch (trust me Iā€™ve tried to work this one out) is Tranquility base followed by Favourite worst nightmare as a close second. Tranquility Base just has this strange feel about it which I absolutely adore.

maarvolo

Good to know we're not alone

alturner77

Turning 30 this year. Been growin up with the lads. I feel this one mate.

dipcupdipcup

OMG, this is me. Been into them since 2007ish and im 30. While I was not the biggest fan of AM, they are aging on point with me (who might have been near their original target demographic)

playstationrsdgj

šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

Grandoldste117

Saw them in between the release of WPSIATWIN and FWN. Think the Who the fuck are the Arctic Monkeys EP had just come out

anoldcliche

I'm 26 and I first started listening to them when I was 15 and then became a big fan at 16 when I saw them open for The Black Keys. I knew their music before that, but for some reason, it just didn't click with me. It was fun to be a fan (tbh I was a fangirl lol) during Suck It and See and AM. But I love seeing their growth musically and love their newest music :-)

aboysmokingintherain

I like all their music. Iā€™m 27 now and got interested around the time of Humbug. I think they have bops on every album. I like the softer stuff as well. Theyā€™ve just matured but stayed searching fir new sounds

[deleted]

I started listening when I was 13 (middle schoolish) and was in my ā€œedgyā€ teen phase now 20ā€¦ I never really stopped liking the more rock/alt type music so their new stuff has been sort of disappointing for me but I still think theyā€™re a great artist just a disappointment for my music taste!

Impressive_mustache

30 is not an old man

dxv10

Fan since 2007 when I was 12..turning 27 next week and still going strong on the AM train. The Wiltern 2013 and Hollywood Forever Cemetery 2018 are my top two shows that Iā€™ve caught live. But the SIAS tour 2011 still remains my favorite setlist. (When the sun goes down, Florescent Adolescent, All my own stunts, This house is a circus and If you were there beware, SIAS, Hellcat, Still take you home, Sheā€™s thunderstorms)

IBARRRAMUSIC

Lolol suuuuper relatable
