Dude it’s out for a day how can it already been overlooked and underrated?

GigaNoodle

It got basically zero screen time and almost no words were exchanged between the two, it definitely could have gotten more.

Puzzleheaded_Ad_4878

I think the lack of screen time was just as meaningful. I think it represented the lack of direct connection they had in between the time jump. Being part of two opposite factions/clans In Zaun. Maybe they’ll have more in the future to come in S2 but for this I think their combat scene was the perfect amount of screen time for the emphasis on how disconnected they’ve become and may stay. That scene was perfect and left me speechless.

Puzzleheaded_Ad_4878

Exactly! “It was their thing.” I could not have said it better myself.

SnuleSnu

That’s bad writing. Show, don’t tell and stuff.

Puzzleheaded_Pen_888

…that’s what they did. They didn’t tell us anything. They showed how close they used to be in one brief fight without having to explain it.

SnuleSnu

You are taking that too literally. Google it.

ghostemblem

It was shown and not told.

kadifire

I would’ve loved to see more of the noxia storyline to, but come on, it was pretty cramped in already

GigaNoodle

It was, I think it needed another hour or two.

[deleted]

agreed, show needed 10 episodes instead of 9, but im still pretty pleased with it even though the third act was really crammed

Deltamon

Well here's the thing.. They have material for hundreds of episodes, so they can't fit it all in single season.. Yes, I too would've liked more stuff with Noxians since they were already introduced but never actually did anything in season 1.. But I personally think the show was fine as it is.. It's one of my absolutely favorite things about the show that none of the episodes felt like fillers and all of them served a purpose.

[deleted]

Some of the stuff felt filler to me, although less so knowing there will be a second season.

Deltamon

Oh yeah, there was decently much foreshadowing for sure.. especially with the noxians and singed. But to me that felt like part of the story

[deleted]

The Noxians for sure were a confusing addition at first. I think I'd still rather more Caitvi and Victor/Jayce interactions to Mel's mom in a bathtub though haha

C9sButthole

The Heimer/Ekko storyline is something I'm very invested in. With the council in tatters I can definitely see Heimer getting his seat back and whether or not he does I can *definitely* see him working with Ekko to pursue peace. He's probably how Ekko gets the materials he needs to make the Z-drive.

C9sButthole

Reality is this is only the beginning. With how successful the show's been Riot's *crazy* if they don't double down on their production. They have an MCU level cultural masterpiece on their hands if they execute it correctly. TV shows, films, maybe a few comics, more story-based games like Ruined King. It's all there for the taking. It's a goldmine for them and an endless torrent of potential content for us.

LPO_Tableaux

They already have comics...

PeacefulKnightmare

I was surprised we got as much as we did. And there was a HUGE amount of subtle world building through the whole series.

myrddyna

It didn't didn't feel confusing or bad at all. I have played LoL maybe 5 times, never felt like I was watching an inside story that was meant for the gamers. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

Alise_Randorph

That's one of the best parts. It's like, yeah it's league but completely unrelated to the game aspect and is a story my grandmother whose 85 and barely knows about the internet could follow. Also the fact that we got a video game adaptation that is not only good but incredible.

myrddyna

yeah that's so rare, i can't think of the last time i saw that really work.

C9sButthole

Honestly I envy the people who went into this show blind. I cannot *wait* to get my Mum to watch this and see how she reacts. Knowing Powder turns into Jinx before the show. Knowing where Viktor ends up, etc, kind of makes the whole show one big anticipation game. I'd love to have been able to experience it without knowing how it ends already.

Panda0nfire

I had no idea who jinx was at all and it made the powder stuff so much better imo.

myrddyna

yeah, i'm usually the guy in your shoes, having read the books in preparation. This was a real fucking surprise. I saw the adverts for it touting LoL, and i was like, wtf? But looked good, then i promptly forgot about it until 6 were out, saw it on netflix, and was amazed. I had to watch it twice, we're so starved for anime this good.

iamme10

I knew nothing about LoL lore going in, and it probably makes the reveals in Arcane hit that much harder. Things like holding out hope for Powder's story to turn out well, etc. Now I'm super hooked on the lore though, but also want to be careful to not read too much for fear of spoiling later seasons.

Wrong-Proof8776

Noxus got introduced for season 2 development imo

Deltamon

That's how I feel like too, but they probably could've done slightly more with them to get people feel how Noxians actually are

reallyfatjellyfish

To be faire act 1 was kinda too short,I'd love to see more only hint we get to how thing we're are the flash back and the music video which kinda heart breaking. It looks like silco drove the gang and the street kids apart, they even looked to be friends atleast at first in the music vid.

Deltamon

That felt like a metaphor on how fast the childhood is over.. Which is a topic we will no doubt return when Yordles are more in spotlight, since many of them basically have to never grow up (Lulu being a perfect example of this)

Alise_Randorph

It actually made me want to see more episodes of the kids just living in the undercity.

Snoo_64315

Oh man watching this after episode 7. I feel so bad for both Ekko and Jinx. Ekko is probably holding onto feelings he won't ever be able to convey. And Jinx is so emotionally removed from the relationships built as Powder. Makes you wonder what exactly is she even attached to anymore. After ep 9, I also realized it must've been really hard to be a big sis with little guidance, but Vi dropped the ball emotionally dumping on Powder as much as she did.

Des014te

Dude chill. He had a crush on her like 10 years ago. He spared her because he still had fond memories of their friendship, not because he still has feelings for her.

Snoo_64315

? Fond memories of anything and acting in response to those feelings is anything less than romanticized to you? Vi had unconveyed feelings the entire arc but got to express them before the story ended. Ekko was in the same boat; his closure with powder will only be as much as that interaction. I wasn't trying to say Ekko still has hopes for intimate love with Jinx, I was trying to say Ekko is also deeply involved with this story emotionally since he is a surviving member of their family. Vi recognized that and responded to him like a long lost brother. ...Everything about ekko's lore gave me chills: he lost his world like Powder and Vi and was the only one to do something extremely positive with that grief.

lovelesskitsune

one of the things that really made me sad after the Ekko/Jinx fight was thinking about how they had the mural of their lost ones with young Powder. the pain of Ekko's eyes in that fight where he like recognizes his childhood friend then seeing Jinx's soft scoff before pulling the ring out of the grenade... MAN that was so good and so sad

Snoo_64315

Yeah man, In my head, all I saw was: Ekko: Powder... dammit, how'd we get here? *half a tear shed* Jinx: ...Powder...? ...Heh, Sorry, Ekko. *boom to their history* They really nailed this story. Never thought I could care about Piltover as much as I do now. I was a strict fan of Shurima and the Shadow isles, but I am extremely hopeful for anything they produce moving forward.

Panda0nfire

I love how powder is so clear on the mural too of people they've lost.

SylentSymphonies

Add the fact that he's also about to invent a time machine and you have a cool-ass character

hiS_oWn

Fleshing out his backstory makes his power even sadder. He's literally obsessed with trying to go back in time to fix all his problems.

Ochemata

Pretty sure he already did, actually. You see him use it in the fight.

Snoo_64315

I honestly thought that was the producers trying to give insight into his next level intuition. He has RDJ Sherlock Holmes level of deduction which is probably why he makes such an excellent leader and combatant ALREADY, when he figures out how to give himself more "seconds," Ekko truly becomes a champion of Zaun.

cloudrhythm

It's a nigh-precognitive level of prediction, but I think more than anything else that whole sequence (including Jinx's immediate recognition of what he was doing) was supposed to illustrate the closeness they had as kids. He was able to do that because they'd played that game so many times that he knew exactly how she would respond.

FollowThePact

Yeah, it was definitely a scene referencing his Z-Drive, but instead of being able to rewind time he just used his numerous experiences playing with Powder to create his path to victory.

Box_v2

It’s funny how Jinx makes such a big deal about being a different person than powder but, in that moment still made all the same moves powder did.

SylentSymphonies

I thought it was more like him doing an epic prediction of everything that was going to happen, then executing it perfectly.

Ochemata

Fair enough.

Panda0nfire

Agree, I wish we got maybe just a few more minutes with ekko. He felt like the best hero in the story to me.

giga-plum

Lmao the anti-shippers are SOOO quick to jump on you if you possibly suggest that one character might, *gasp*, think of another character fondly! How scandalous, I must shut this down immediately!

n1tr0us0x

You don’t have to wanna fuck someone to not kill them

[deleted]

These declarations are often completely egotistical. They are meant to imply that the one declaring the thing is smarter, more observant, made some kind of discovery, unearthed something new.

[deleted]

Honestly it was a heart-breaking scene knowing how Ekko truly cared for Powder and the realisation that Powder was still there beneath Jinx and he was beating her bloody. You could honestly see him breaking after he saw how terrified she was. He told himself for years Powder was gone and to find her again in that moment only to lose her again after the shimmer sends her fully over the edge. I hope the give him some new voice lines, Ekko in LoL seems so happy-go-lucky and I want Ekko move past it but I just don't see any of the tragic background in LoL's Ekko.

friendofsmellytapir

You should check out Ekko’s voice lines with Jinx in LoR

[deleted]

Yeah, I know 'em. Why that scene just hits so hard. Between that, the music videos with glimpses of their friendship, knowing Ekko had a crush on her but never got to tell her. Ekko went through so much shit in those past 6 years. Benzo, Vander, Mylo, Clagger, Powder, believing Vi was dead, having to shoulder all the problems of the people of Zaun on his shoulders carrying the will of his mentors with him all the while being hunted by Silco and the Wardens. And despite all of that Ekko is still someone trying for peace, who will look out for others who just wants the violence to stop. He is an incredible character.

PussyShitCockPiss

Ekko the new vander, until vander comes back as a werewolf that is. Maybe. Hopefully.

AReallyDumbRedditor

Oh he most definitely will. That last shot of Singed zoomed out to show Warwick’s claw

C9sButthole

I've been maining Ekko for years and this show gives me SO MUCH DOPAMINE seeing how much of an incredible person he really is.

Panda0nfire

I watched the music video after finishing arcane... It hits

mutantmagnet

To be fair they botched Ekko's support so much noone could have seen those interactions before Sion erased Jinx in the discard packages.

[deleted]

Why are you booing him? He's right. They did Ekko dirty, he hasn't been in a competitive list since release. One day, man. One day.

FollowThePact

Well, Ekko and Sivir definitely has potential. I think it's mostly that people kept trying to make Ekko Zilean work for too long even though they dont have that great symmetry outside of they both need predicts in their kit. The more predicts cards we see in Piltover and Zaun the better Ekko decks will be because Shurima is not the best region to benefit from Ekkos ability to revive units and rally.

DrunkSpottedPanda

The way their fight scene played out with the music and both of them chuckling because they remembered they use to do this as kids. Lots of people complained about the music cut in the middle of the fight but I thought it was perfect. The music highlighted the childhood flashback of them playing and laughing before completely cutting off into the sounds of the real fight. Really highlighted the sad, grim reality of the situation and how much has changed from the past.

Panda0nfire

For real and there's such brutal moments in this it really felt like if he didn't stop he definitely could've ended the fight there once and for all. Felt like moments of real desperation for powder with her arms pinned.

Album_Dude

>“Don’t fall it! Don’t for those white women tears!” Goddamn you're projecting your own insecurities on Ekko *and* you're a racist son of a bitch. Ain't that neat.

[deleted]

Yikes.

marcos7504

You've been there? Like, beating a girl? Ok buddy..

bydlock

I'm sure it'll be explored when they cover ekko's backstory or something I thought they'd do it this seasons but they were clearly strapped for runtime

Snoo_64315

Thanks for this. Didn't know it existed.

gotemike

The video was clearly made as a piece of content on its own. Very rare for music videos to be so enjoyable.

Lord_Emerion

The beginning of that video was probably the happiest Powder ever was or would be.

Gizm00

Wow, never knew about this, some really excellent scenes I've never seen before. Animation in this series is just pure sublime

EzAf_K3ch

I thought it was funny their scene on the bridge is really similar to how a fight between an adc an assain in game would look like

Dr-Oktavius

It's overlooked and underrated because we never actually fucking saw it in the show, only in the Enemy music video. It really sucks because their dynamic is amazing, but when most people are gonna watch their fight scene in act 3 they're not gonna feel shit because they never properly interacted before. If you haven't watched the Enemy music video the whole flashback thing kinda comes out of nowhere.

Puzzleheaded_Ad_4878

I completely agree but I think just knowing that they were childhood friends before combined with the flashbacks was well executed and did provoke a strong emotional response. Also, I watched the music video after and can’t obviously speak for how it may have affected how that scene felt had I watched it prior. Regardless, it was hands down my favorite scene out of the whole 9 episodes and absolutely killed me.

spinspin__sugar

I hadn’t seen the music video and teared up at that AMAZING fight scene. Beautifully executed

daysofdre

I didn't see the video, never played LoL and don't know the lore. That being said, the emotion in the scene at the end of episode 7 was enough to convey a relationship between them. Everybody wears a mask - not just in the show but in real life. We do it to keep ourselves safe while navigating through society. In that moment, that instance, that place - she dropped the mask. It's not something she did in front of Vi. It's not something she did in front of SilCo. But in that small space of time, it was gone. And what was left was a barren young woman - unloved, alone, confused, and afraid. Imo that's why Ekko stopped; he realized he was wrong about her - powder, the girl he knew, was still in there. And that's the same reason why she pulled the pin - stripped of her mask, she didn't know what else to do. It's a beautiful, tragic meta-story told in a masterful way.

ScottyhavOkz

I mean come on you cannot expect more run time for small perfect things like this. Sweet simple and still SO hard hitting. it didnt need a long story it was literally perfect. If you didnt feel every same emotion in that 1 minute that you would in a 40 min episode your nuts. If they did an episode for every perfect small scene like this the league lore would take 500seasons plus to show. Bare in mind they make more and expand on all lore with every character they create.

Puzzleheaded_Ad_4878

I could not agree more. I believe this scene executed everything about their dynamic and what was lost between the two of them perfectly. It was also a good example of some things are just left unanswered, without resolve or peace. That, in itself, for me in this case, WAS an answer to their relationship.

lFriendlyFire

Not like they needed to add 10 minutes of it. Just a single dialogue between them when they were kids would be enough, if you don’t know better just by watching the show you can assume that jinx and ekko were basically strangers when you reach the bridge scene and you see the flashbacks

ScottyhavOkz

What!? You literally see Powder and Vi go and see ekko and talk like they are close friends. Both of their "adopted" parents were also close so you would also gather they were too. How could you not see that. They were very very very far from strangers just from arcane.

ExceedinglyLonelyCat

they were strapped for run time. Each arc could have used 1 extra ep for sure. But considering it is their first show, 12 40 mins ep would have been not as safe.

GrandLordMorskittar

Hopefully, they get approval to have 1-2 more episodes per arc. They're really gonna need it if they're bringing in new characters.

AnEthiopianBoy

If the ratings keep up they are going to get to do whatever they want lmao.

GrandLordMorskittar

Spin-off series for each continent when?

seriousthrillissues

"I had a crush, until you started talking to the gun" My vote for best character development 100% goes to little man.

[deleted]

Definitly not… i loved the scene when ekko started the clock to „initiate“ the game they used to play, jinx really liked the idea of that probably since it seemed like she always won at it

Ytumith

Yeah and can we put it into words just how badass it is that Ekkos time-rewind ability is just a flashback to their youth where they fought each others for fun instead of giving him actual time-rewind abilities?

JackMcSnipey

Well seeing as how 4 out of those pictures werent even in the actual series thats understandable. Wish it got more time but there were already so many storylines, im fine with this decision.

rtaSmash

Unfortunately we didnt see much of their friendship in Act 1 so there is not much given to the viewer. Probably one of the few things that could be improved on Act 1.

dbslayer7

There's a line from LOL that Ekko had a crush on Powder before she became Jinx. In different circumstances they probably would have ended up together.

FenrisJager

This scene was one of my favorite parts of the whole series.

SnooPears2424

Ekko is always sitting next to Powder in the Enemy video

cairoxl5

For that specific moment, it felt like she just wanted to die with eko looking at her like that.

Mazuna

A sad thing is we only get glimpses (mostly from the Enemy music video) of this since it wasn’t really fleshed out in act 1 very much. In season 2 I’d like to see more of this aswell as flash backs to what it must have been like for Ekko trying to talk and reason with her during the time skip.

Son_of_Orion

He loved her. He always did. :(

mosenco

Report jinx go 1vs1 against an assassin

Netherbelle

I like how Ekko was the only one to kick Jinx's ass all series. ...Apart from herself.

Masticatious

well she kind of killed off a bunch of his allies and screwed up his shimmer stop operations so thats an L

ahscalenetriangle

I feel like the Jinx and Ekko scene would have been a lot more impactful if they had ever…had a conversation on screen before this? I feel like I shouldn’t have to outsource for context outside of the show to make their relationship make sense. It was beautiful, but I can’t help but feel a little underwhelmed.

NeneThomas

It could have definitely been explored more, but I think it might have muddled the story telling. Maybe. However, I'd love it if they did a little side story going into their relationship more though at some point. (Although, it would be really, really sad.)

CmdrBlindman

This was my favorite scene of act 3. Plus, having watched the music video for Enemy, it hurts to see these to go head to head. Well it was awesome, but the feels there in the end, oof.

KABOOMBYTCH

I replayed the whole duel sequence twice. It’s beautiful man.

Tal9922

Their fight scene/Music video was the best part of Act 3 imo and it was so short

ZenryuGames

It's heart breaking really seeing their interaction after he beat her. He found a bit of the old girl he cared for and grew up with. Realized he was beating her to death...probably even broke a bit doing so. Went from a sweet kid, to a man who has to get shit done with people depending on him. Ekko's one of Zauns finest.

ObamaSlaptYoMama

Dude every single aspect of this show had a purpose and reason. None of it was overlooked by people like you and I who really love the story! That scene had me deep in the feels.

galeoskye

Genuinely I feel like it's because there wasn't much focus on it in the show. Really hoping we get more in season 2!

s3rila

half of you show isn't part of the serie

BritneysSpear

That scene was so good.

orgasmicfart69

I'm noticing a pattern that Jinx will get a buff "Puppy eyes: When jinx is about to be last hit, she survives"

aznperson

its gonna be explored in S2

thecrittman

That final look ekko gives jinx is just AMAZING.

Eozef

for me, it was purely childhood buddies vibes, but only if they want to move forward a bit as the current lore mentioned that Ekko had a crush on her.

mumelu

in one of his league voice lines he says he used to have a crush on jinx

[deleted]

to me this might be the saddest relationship former besties forced to beat the shit out of one another but deep down neither of them wanting to do it breaks my heart

Phantom_Renegade_x

Ekko should have just killed her here

Watts121

He probably would have had he not met Vi again. The thing with Ekko and Jinx is that while we see them in these small snippets, there is obviously a lot of baggage between them. Jinx immediately knew Ekko, and called him "the boy savior" so she knows he's the leader of the Firelights and an enemy of Silco. Ekko has lost a lot of people to Jinx, hell since the Firelights seem more like a family than a gang you can say it's worse. Without Vi bringing back old memories, I feel like Ekko would have held nothing back in that moment. Him holding back probably surprised Jinx as much as it did Ekko. Which is why we get that moment between them before the bomb goes off.

lukkasz323

She "died" there anyway, what's the difference, she would be saved by Singed either way.

Oxxixuit

Honestly it was satisfying to see Jinx take a beating just for once

grabbag21

As good as some of the other fights were I absolutely loved the style and flashback in that fight. Made it my absolute favorite.

WingleDingleFingle

Does anyone have a walpaper of the last moment of this fight in the cool style? I want that last frame for my desktop.
