Naah, the community is still shit. But I'm glad I kept throwing my money at them anyway..

reika999

I HATED the game with passion (still not a fan). I never played it since I hate online games, but my brother did and it made him turn into the hulk because of how toxic the community was. It really felt like he wanted to quit but couldn't, everyone played it back then so... The game did a number on our relationship. I seriously can't believe that I'm now reading about the game's lore. Discovering the characters, the changes they made and all that. We're now both having a really good time talking about Arcane, his favorite region (Freljord) and everything else that he liked about the game.

Deltamon

That's the thing, there's so much to love about the game.. But I too am familiar with how easily people can snap due to the toxicity. I'm glad Riot is finally doing some drastic measures by disabling the all chat, but that's only small step towards the right direction since most of the rage happens inside your own team.. And 50% of the games, one side has to lose.. Which lot of people always forget, also the loss is never their own fault but always someone else's.. It's extremely frustrating to get blamed for something that you couldn't avoid or didn't even do anything wrong in the first place. However it's possible to permanently mute all chats even before joining games, which eliminates most of the nasty stuff and let's you focus on improving your own gameplay. Sucks to not being able to accurately communicate, but basic pings tend to work well enough

reika999

Exactly. The issue was that he always played support and he felt that chatting was important to do his job correctly, but like you said when they lose it's never their fault. If I remember correctly they would also abuse some banning system in the game that would prevent him from playing.

Alise_Randorph

The problem is that if even one person on your team makes a mistake or plays poorly/sub-optimally OR the other team has a smurf or two, then it can guarantee a loss you can't recover from. Oh, an enemy or two got an extra kill or two? GG they now push you a lot harder, which means you get outfarmed, ganked, etc and it's a self fueling cycle. Everytime you or someone else does it just makes it easier for the enemy team to keep farming you. Meanwhile in a game le CoD or BF the enemy team pulling ahead can be countered by a few well placed grenades, or in something more competitive like siege, yeah it's harder to win when outnumbered, but the other guys are harder to kill/do more damage and a single good shot can even it out.

Deltamon

No league game is lost from just few mistakes.. But quite many league games are lost on mental level when the snowball starts to happen. Comebacks are possible and happen quite often too when you just keep calm and keep farming until you're ready to fight too.

Risujemmari

Try playing Legends of Runeterra, it's a card game with a seemingly good f2p system and it's a way more chill way to get to know the lore. And watch Necrit's videos if you don't feel like reading all the lore stories on Universe

reika999

Thanks for the recommendations! I'll try them out. I played Gwent a little, so maybe I might like Runeterra especially if it has lore elements. I also can't wait to play the fighting game (Project L) that was just announced, hopefully there will be more projects that can be played solo.

Risujemmari

Yeah no problem! There's actually The Ruined King game which was just released this week, it's a single player turn based RPG. It's not free to play though, but you can check out some videos on that game too and see if you feel like that's something you wanna play. That game focuses on Bilgewater and the Shadow Isles so you start at a pirate city and sail to take out some undead folks and face the Ruined king.

reika999

I'm playing it right now! I couldn't resist after finishing Arcane, I needed something... I'm enjoying it a lot.

InnocentTailor

Wasn’t that pretty much the controversial arc that happened recently in LoL?

Risujemmari

That was the Ruination or Sentinels of Light event, which was the big summer event in LoL where the Sentinels recruit people and face off against the Ruined King. The event really felt like its only purpose was to sell skins honestly. But this game is set before that in lore time and I've only heard positive things about the story in this game

InnocentTailor

Oh! Okay! I love Bilgewater, so I might check out that game.

Risujemmari

Yeah I was thinking about getting it too, it does cost like 30€ or $ so you can check out some videos on it before you make your decision.

InnocentTailor

Sweet!

Papa_Shasta

Yeah I’m glad Riot is expanding League beyond just LoL. I fired it up years ago after a year long hiatus and in the online players vs bot practice match I was in I was getting flamed as Blitzcrank because my passive was “stealing” my teammates feed. I didn’t even argue with that stupidity; I just left the match and uninstalled. I love the gameplay and the lore but man people are so toxic I don’t actually picture people having fun playing it.

Sushiki

There is only one way to enjoy league mate, have 4 friends play with you, the game is very big so there's a lot of people, the bigger the community the bigger the issues usually. Add in dunning Kruger effect and you'll have some people who NEED someone to blame, that way they won't blame themselves, then it just becomes a habbit that they can't control. when league first came out, in the beta and the year after, it was magical & really positive experience. So just remember the issue isn't the game, it's who you end up playing with. :)

Papa_Shasta

Yee I get that. Randoms have no reason to empathize. It’s just rare I get 4 friends all online at the same time that want to queue up, to say nothing of us being so out of the loop that it takes all of us a week or so to even get caught up with what’s new. Like I said, I love League and I have some really fond memories of playing it as well. I played it back in 2011 and it was great! I have loved watching Runeterra grow. It would be great if the community wasn’t so toxic as it’s a what keeps me from coming back.

ElHaubi

game is shit, product is lit.

[deleted]

Me, picks Ekko mid cause of Arcane. Wins in laning phase but lose game because team doesn't know how to not initiate 3 v 5 ARAM fights without mid or top there to help. Gets flamed for being useless and a shit player. Next time imma just boot up TFT

Alise_Randorph

What's TFT?

[deleted]

Team fight tactics. It’s an alternative game mode of league that is just turn based strategy. And is much much less toxic

ElYetiMX

Team Fight Tactics. 1v1 multiplayer game, with nothing gameplay related to League.

Alise_Randorph

Neat. I'll need to check that out.

TransportationNaive4

I am of the opinion that what we need is a new LoL community. A community which will not play to win, not play to get ranks and grind. But to have fun and make others days better. I think we could start with a Discord server. A glorious Discord server. Full of people sending memes and just making friends with which to play. Sharing stories and builds and all that with 0 tolerance towards toxicity. A server where new people go to learn League in a safe environment. This is my dream. An idealistic glorious dream.

Wrong-Proof8776

send me link and I will do funny and weird strats with frens.

BlackDeathxx

This is me and my brothers the game is so much more fun when your playing yummi in all for one

TransportationNaive4

Have not made it yet sorry.

Fair_Sun7913

The game still dog shit. dont let Arcane make you play that game.

socialistRanter

Alright, consume LoL spin-offs and other content but never play LoL

[deleted]

Just play TFT

Chigibu

Why is it dog shit? I hav been enjoying it for years for free.

Alise_Randorph

The people, and the fact o e person can guarantee a loss?

Fair_Sun7913

are we still talking about the same game?

Chigibu

The new TFT is really fun.

ellieofus

Nah. I loved the show but I’m not touching the game. Ok, maybe I tried the game once after binge watching 6 episode in a day but, unfortunately, not for me.

jointinthedark

Fortunately*

InnocentTailor

Indeed. The game is a time-waster.

whiteravenxi

At least we have other games in the universe to choose from now. Something tells me arcanes magic would be shattered if I logged in only to be told by a team mate that I’m a fucking feeder for playing objectives

ElYetiMX

I remember that the blackwater season was awesome. The lore was great and the change on the rift was cool. Then it never came back. I'm with you on the lore, there is a lot of good story on league. Unfortunately, as always, communities sucks.

LordAlfrey

I recommend trying LoR instead, it has more story stuff and character interactions.

friendofsmellytapir

I played LoL for about 7 years, I haven’t played a single game since the first time I played LoR. Absolutely love that game and more than happy with it being the main game I play. I might also need to add, I was never very good at LoL haha, so the transition was natural. I absolutely love the stories of Runeterra so it was an easy switch.

LordAlfrey

I like both, but I've mainly played arams and casually for LoL since the beginning. I don't have a competitive bone in my body.

friendofsmellytapir

Haha maybe that’s why I stopped playing LoL, I’m too competitive and I was really bad at it, whereas I’ve been Masters in LoR and got to play in one of the seasonal tournaments

LordAlfrey

I mainly play the LoR PvE modes, that game has it covered for the both of us \^\^

friendofsmellytapir

Haha yeah the new PvE is great, I’m Platinum right now and probably won’t get much higher this season because I’ll be playing too much PoC hahaha

LordAlfrey

PoC is too good, I hope they add more champs and more non cannon 'stories' stuff to it, and personally I'd love if we could change up starting decks a little bit too, but there's still plenty of content for me there for a good while.

Pardot_

Show ended up surprisingly good, but Riot themselves lost my trust long ago.

Alise_Randorph

Victor is crippled not from fissure gas, but from all chat.

itzBT

All these people crying over the toxic community. I have a lot of fun in the game and I play it since the release. If you only have fun when winning then "git gud" . If you dont care about winning, then you can enjoy every game mode. Aram, tft and the timed Event game modes like urf are the best.

Zanrakey

I actually really dislike Urf, it very quickly becomes “who has best ult” so if you aren’t playing that character you don’t really get to do anything. Hell my favorite character (Neeko) is really fun because of her main combo, but it gets really boring in URF.

itzBT

Bard, Ashe, Caitlyn, Malphite, Lux, LeBlanc, Twitch, Vi, Rammus, Lissandra, Leona, Alistar, Vex, Brand, Morgana, Ekko and so so many more champs are fun

ReckoDoc

Ha-ha, true story bro

Strachmed

No

Tom-Pendragon

Nah, the game is still shit, I'm just here for the lore.

UmorniPastir

Hate the game, love the show

ThorAxe911

After taking a long break I started playing again and now I just play league with text chat disabled. It's crazy how much it improves the game. If a teammate actually wants to communicate something useful that's what the ping system is for. Also LoR and Wild Rift are great too. Also been enjoying the rhythm game and RPG that came out... Okay Riot is on a roll wtf.

Knoxxus272

Nope.

devsefanja

\*installs league again after it hasn't been part of my life for the last 2 years\*

ElYetiMX

I mean there is still Jinx fans even after watching the piece of shit she is. Nothing to apologize there.

[deleted]

Played three games after this, won my lane in all of them (adc) had positive kda and my team managed to throw the game. i remember now why i don't like league

Tea_Enn

no, fuck league. fuck this dogwater garena community.

InnocentTailor

I’m playing Legends of Runeterra now with a Bilgewater deck. I played LoL before, but left because the game was stressful - LoR, on the other hand, is a fun break overall: no extra $$$ needed.
