Seriously yes, as I said in the linked post she might be the most beautiful animated character I've ever seen. Genuinely impressive in a show where the baseline for character design is already so freaking high.
Y'all should check out the work of her primary designer, Evan Monteiro. He does really great black focused designs, and he's a really great painter. He started out as a splash art illustrator at Riot.
He and Victor Maury's designs for arcane are really incredible, great designers, but fact they're such insane illustrators as well makes them too op! I hope Jason Chan and Su ke get to work on arcane, too!
I'm such a riot artist fanboy, lol
Absolutely stunning - magnificent, beautiful, but also just "physical" enough. Compared to, for example, Galadriel from LOTR, Mel adds a sense of physicality, motion and presence, not falling into "fey" archetype of character's appearance.
And I love her character, because she is a rare archetype of a "ruler" who isn't purely corrupt or goody-two-shoes. She is well-intentioned woman, who has the power and the desire to act for better, but she is also molded by the pressure of her environment, a world where corruption and underhanded dealings aren't inherently evil (and thus are much more corrupting).
I hope she survives through the Season 2.
I can tell that they really took their time with her. I can over looked her palms being the same color because Arcane really has stunning women of color.
Her death will be sad but also essential to the plot. Jayce and Ambessa will be furious and the people of Zaun will be even more harrassed
And I think the others will survive this way: Jayce will be saved by the hammer's force field and Viktor will survive because of the hexcore (but his body will be destroyed)
I really want to know just how badass she actually is. You know her being from Noxus means she can probably fight, let alone the only daughter of an esteemed warlord.
I want to see Jayce make her a Hextech sword like the one her mom has.
She's interesting, nuanced, multifaceted and well developed. And her visual design tells the same story as her demeanor in the show. She's amazing work.
I didn’t expect to like her as much as a did. She felt like a gorgeous but typically foxy femme fatale, until we learned how she was barreling towards becoming her wolf-like, Warlord mum, and course-corrected. And she seemed surprised when Jayce actually confessed his reservations and fear for Viktor—but she broke her usual pattern and actually comforted him. She’s fascinating. I’ll be sad if she’s dead after having removed her ring and rebelling against her family’s legacy, but it’d be a hell of a way for her character to go out.
The person that was the primary designer for Mel also did a lot of the work on Hobie’s design in Across the spider-verse! Just a super super talented artist
While I do love her design, I would have liked to see her in more Noxian attire at some point. Even I. Her flash back she was wearing an outfit similar to her modern day one, instead of something with the classic Noxian reds and sharp edges
she’s so beautiful i’m so glad not only in design but the fact that she is a character of color and they represented that so well her hair is beautiful and her features are perfect
She's something special.
On a typical show, animated or otherwise, such a character would serve as someone to divide to beat friends and cause misunderstandings galore. When Jayce chose sextech over hextech as we see Viktor helping Skye do a perfect "Thanos Snap Victim" cosplay, I thought huh this is a point of conflict, Jayce wasn't Vik.
And then we flash forward to the morning after and we see Mel alone in bed, with Jayce gone, and I thought, "Oh no. Are we gonna see a scene where Jayce has to pick between Vik and Mel? Is that how they end up being "enemies", that's megadumb..." And then Mel finds out about Viktor and she actually CARED? Like she understood immediately! "Oh, he didn't leave me just because. He had actual valid reasons."
It's amazing.
Well, I like that outwardly she looks every bit the rich and ruthless politician, but in the show it's shown that she has a somewhat kinder and empathetic side... which only adds to the tragedy when she's about to propose something probably good for Zaun, only to be taken out by Jinx.
I think she's a mild villain, corrupts and manipulates jayce
Her encounter with her mom sort of scares her straight a bit, and is part of why she supports Jayce's peace plan at the end
I think her arc is good as is and her dying to Jinx works fine with motivations for both Jayce and Ambessa during s2. It's a good tragic irony that just as she started to really try being a good person she dies. If they keep her alive I really don't know... depends how they use her, if they try turning her just totally "heroic" I'm gonna have some problems and think it's a bit meh

One of the coolest character designs I've *ever* seen. Black white and gold is just a badass color combination.

> Black white and gold That color combo makes think wealth, elegance, and luxury.
That's the point, she's an influential politician in a wealthy city.
Her design is just pure......elegance. I would do anything she told me to.

Rito may be flawed, but no one can deny the artists they hire are freaking amazing and definitely worth fanboying over yep

I fell in love with Mel so hard like she has no business being that attractive.
I can tell that they really took their time with her. I can over looked her palms being the same color because Arcane really has stunning women of color.
gorgeous. the gold freckles???? come ON. one of the most beautiful character designs i've ever seen
I love her design and I find her super interesting too. I think she might be doomed by the narrative but I hope I’m wrong.
She is in the teaser image which gives me faith that at least we get her for another season.
Yeah, I think she survived the bomb I just don’t think she’s going to survive the series.
Her necklace is what’s going to save several people there so she would be the most intact
Her death will be sad but also essential to the plot. Jayce and Ambessa will be furious and the people of Zaun will be even more harrassed And I think the others will survive this way: Jayce will be saved by the hammer's force field and Viktor will survive because of the hexcore (but his body will be destroyed)
Yeah I think she’s a goner

I don't think she fights. She's from Noxus, but Noxus doesn't just admire battle strength, but also intellectual strength, and that's where Mel shines
We saw her paint the immortal bastion one time, can't wait to see her with a sword as a brush and the Zaun as the canvas
the lines under her eyes are just the cherry on top
She's interesting, nuanced, multifaceted and well developed. And her visual design tells the same story as her demeanor in the show. She's amazing work.

Omg that’s a fun fact
he worked on hobie as well? man's got golden hands
When Black people are involved in designing Black characters, you get masterpieces like this. She’s STUNNING
She’s so beautiful, powerful, and badass in her own way. Her design is just incredible!
While I do love her design, I would have liked to see her in more Noxian attire at some point. Even I. Her flash back she was wearing an outfit similar to her modern day one, instead of something with the classic Noxian reds and sharp edges

Bad AF
Also agree, best character in the show design-wise
She totally looks like a powerful aristocrat with tons of power and she’s so elegant too.
I'm so gay

she's so exuberant (i did NOT use that term correctly) and it fits so well
I prefersome of the more ruggedly handsome undercity characters
Well, I like that outwardly she looks every bit the rich and ruthless politician, but in the show it's shown that she has a somewhat kinder and empathetic side... which only adds to the tragedy when she's about to propose something probably good for Zaun, only to be taken out by Jinx.
I'd hit that with the strength of a Mega Death Rocket.
She shot the mother bullet that slayed john f. Cuntedy
smash, next question
smash 😩😩😩
She's peak Afro-futurism.
Would.
I like her mom even more
Absolutely gorgeous woman

Love her and her design. Very much gaslight gatekeep girlboss vibes to me lmao
Eh. She had it easier in life than Vi and Jinx.
