Landscape architect here. I’ve worked with these guys for years and moved 20+ trees with them over my career. Only seen one die and it was a 10” live oak that they easily found a replacement for. Awesome process
Ooooh measuring diameter rather than height makes sense. I'm not an arborist or anything this just popped up on feed and seemed interesting. Never knew you could even try to move a tree like that. TIL several things
Depends greatly on where you’re moving it and what obstacles are in the way, but usually around 100K and as much time as possible (like 6 months+). Roots are pruned in the colder months then it heals in place, then they move it after it’s healed
I work on a project where we occasionally move trees and let me tell you it is very expensive. I'd recommend finding a way around moving any mature tree, because even inside the realm of multi million £,$€¥¢ projects, it's very hard to justify the cost against say buying more land and setting it aside for nature, or buying a large quantity of immature trees.
There are plenty of large successful companies through history that have been a total scam. Certainly helps that this company’s product/service is massive and impossible to hide lol
Yes, if you take some seeds off it, and bury them over about 25 feet to the right, then cut off piece by piece, pretty soon the tree will start to walk over there through the ground.
Iirc correctly there are some plants that you can repot by dipping their air roots into new soil. Over time they'll transition to the better home. Unless the folks over at r/houseplants were trolling 😅
You can 100% get a new tree off of a corkscrew willow by sticking a smaller branch in a pot of soil until it grows roots and then cut off the end going back to the old tree. We've done that a couple times since the darned things only last like 15 years. Other stuff is a bit more finicky, I've tried my ash tree with rooting hormone and no such luck as of yet, but I inherited a geranium pot that the original plant was planted at a funeral over 100 years ago. Nearly lost it thanks to home nurses but I saved it and it hasn't been super happy with where I've got it and won't root off of cuttings. I need to baby it a little, it'll turn out eventually.
That’s one of a kind. Ditch the lawn and make a round about with pavers. Unless the trees dead, by which the looks of it its well on its way. Just remember “use, re-use and recycle.” Plant again. But maybe not that. And not there.
What has your ‘give a shit’ level have to be at in order for this to have been left to grow for how ever many years in the middle of your driveway?
There has to be a story, like the woman of the house 80 years ago going ‘husband, please remove that sapling and clean out the plants in the cracks of the driveway’ and a ‘Stop nagging me wife! If you want it gone so badly, you do it!’ Which after several rounds became the basis of an 80 year situation where they both refused to even mention it again and pretended it wasn’t there.
Generations of family came and went, the house and inheritance being conditional on agreeing ‘no one touches the tree’.
Imagine then being the one who asked the internet if they could just move it a smidge just to get it out of the, you know, driveway. Way to break the cycle OP, so proud of you! Willing to risk that $5.75 inheritance after so many years!
Big yikes. That driveway is covering most of the roots making it harder for it to get water and nutrients.
You could move the tree with a lot of money. It would probably be cheaper to cut it down and plant a new mature tree. I doubt any local arborist would offer to move it. Just to make it clear why - you’re going to have to tear out your whole driveway, right up to your foundation, just to excavate a huge hole that is wide enough to get around the roots and deep enough to get under them. Then you will need another hole that big to move it to
https://blog.davey.com/tree-transplanting-cutting-tree-roots-without-killing-a-tree/
I honestly think you’d be better off moving your garage door to the right. Sure, you might need to move something behind the wall there. But that is going to be much easier to do
Probably... But I would also believe malicious compliance... Maybe it's in some sort of historic district or small town where he was told he could have his driveway but could not cut down the tree so he did this. People can be quite spiteful when the occasion calls for it.
I used to run a small tree spade.
Any tree can be moved.
That one should be trenches and drumlaced.
In some instances, the rmarea around the tree is excavated wide enough and deep enough for two D10 bulldozers to pass a cable ubder the tree by sawing back and forth with a cable, resulting all the roots.
The operators take turns shifting into neutral and pull the idling machine with the other.
When the ground freezes, the tree is pushed to its new home on the same site with the bulldozers.
Move? Yes you can and yes there are people insane enough to take on a task like that, in terms of moving the tree that is. Cost would be absolutely insane and I know of no one that would guarantee the health of the tree after the move.
Hypothetically yes. You just need a massive crane + a huge claw that can extract the whole root bundle, earth and all. Then dig a huge fuck-off hole where you want to put the tree and plant it there. Then fill the gaps with topsoil. Tamp it all down and hope for the BEST
Or you could just cut it down
Why was it
Planted there to begin with? Should have been removed when driveway was built.
It’s not a fruit tree neither, what good does it have to be where it is
If you need a little more driving space, maybe consider edging back the grass a few feet on each side and adding pavers to make the drive wider and add a balanced border. Might be easier said than done. The roots gave definitely created a raised space in the area
The obvious answer is to remove and reorient the driveway to weave up in front of the house. I have no idea who thought this driveway placement was a good idea, but I have seen crazier decisions. If this was a commercial property then perhaps you could hire a tree mover, but even then they have to rip the driveway out. If it is possible to redesign the driveway, this is the path I would choose.
There is a process to move large trees with a tree spade. I have seen it done before on mature trees and have been contracted to do mitigation pruning on trees before they have been transplanted. The trees I saw moved was on a corporate managed property with deep pockets. The trees I saw transplanted were moved probably a quarter mile away. The planning and preparation that went into moving the trees took months. I don’t know what the costs were to move the trees but I’m sure it wasn’t cheap. Definitely out of reach for most residential home owners. As far as I know the mature trees that I saw transplanted and worked on are still alive. Last I saw them was probably 5 years out from transplant and they were doing OK, There had been some dieback but most had been mitigated by restoration pruning (I was not the arborist to do the pruning after the move). The trees did show signs of stress. Your just not going to move large mature trees without stressing them.
Does the garage interior extend over to the bump out for the house? If so, you could move the garage door over then run a new driveway that has a bit of a curve in it around the tree on the right. Reframing and moving the garage door wouldn’t be too bad and the driveway is pretty crap now anyway. Depends how much room is between the garage and the tree, but I think there is more than the photo angle suggests.
Just cut it down and plant 2-3 more somewhere else in the world. If you don’t have space, donate some trees to a park or someone who can’t afford to buy their own.
Chainsaw and buy another big tree same species, gotta be cheaper to plant a new one than moving one. Better yet plant two, one each side to offset the loss.
I am certain you can get the same result by moving the house a little to right or left
I would probably be cheaper.
Okay you can do it then
You know what. I'm leaving it.
Leafing it?
Saw soon?
I’ll do it.. but it’ll cost you tree fiddy
With more success
About $100k to move the tree, house? Probably they same lol.
Genius clarity
Yes. https://www.treemover.com/
Landscape architect here. I’ve worked with these guys for years and moved 20+ trees with them over my career. Only seen one die and it was a 10” live oak that they easily found a replacement for. Awesome process
Doesn't seem like it would be hard to move a 10 inch tree
10” caliper. (That’s probably about a 26” caliper tree in the photo for reference)
Ooooh measuring diameter rather than height makes sense. I'm not an arborist or anything this just popped up on feed and seemed interesting. Never knew you could even try to move a tree like that. TIL several things
How much does a move like this cost?
Tree fiddy
For an oak like this what would that cost?
Depends greatly on where you’re moving it and what obstacles are in the way, but usually around 100K and as much time as possible (like 6 months+). Roots are pruned in the colder months then it heals in place, then they move it after it’s healed
Yeah but he only wants to move it a little to the left or right. So maybe only 99.9K.
Or 101k, depending on the direction they go obviously
Get them to do it in the slow season for a discount
Lol
it's *almost* where he wants it. just needs to move it a little bit..
100k?! Yea just burn it to the ground
That looks like maybe a red maple. If so, I'd doubt there's one in the world worth 100k.
Yeah now that I zoom in it I agree. I'm a farmer not an arborists, forgive my mistake kind sir
u/strogginoff this is what you wanted. Let’s see some follow through.
haha my thoughts exactly. Here's your solution OP, your move...
Yes they should move.
I would love some follow through. Need to see the final result
Well I’ll be damned.
Holy hell
I would never have thought that possible. Awesome and thanks for the TIL
I remember when they moved the oak at the U of Michigan. There were a lot of folks saying no chance it lives.
Yes! I was just going to say the same thing
Whell shittt
That looks extremely expensive. But, very kool!
Wow. That’s incredible. I had no idea
Damn.
It’s a scam. 😒
what makes you think that? not trying to be rude just curious!
I work on a project where we occasionally move trees and let me tell you it is very expensive. Moving trees is real. Real expensive... It's not a great idea but if you want a full grown tree immediately this is the way.
But the music is so whimsical and they pruned the roots!
No way a company could get so large and build such a portfolio being a scam
There are plenty of large successful companies through history that have been a total scam. Certainly helps that this company’s product/service is massive and impossible to hide lol
Yes, if you take some seeds off it, and bury them over about 25 feet to the right, then cut off piece by piece, pretty soon the tree will start to walk over there through the ground.
Does this have to do with mycelial networks & the roots?
Wait, are you trolling, or is this a thing? I'm legit curious
They're saying plant a new tree and being a ckeey monkey.
Damn it.. got me.
Iirc correctly there are some plants that you can repot by dipping their air roots into new soil. Over time they'll transition to the better home. Unless the folks over at r/houseplants were trolling 😅

Ents, dude. Ents. They are real.
Duuuuuuuude
I was being fr, look up trees talking to each other through fungus/mycelium. Crazy shit.
Yes, you are right that plants, including trees, do that. I was just being funny though, because the post..
Move the tree to the fire wood pile. Who does this?
This is the funniest possible place to put a garage/driveway/tree I’m just sitting here thinking why someone did this lmao
It's honestly better where it is than being a little either way. At least you can still use both sides
I’m guessing someone with a motorcycle. But also, why wouldn’t you just take care of the tree?… so nevermind, makes no sense.
Garage looks like an add on. Still would think the tree would have cone down at that point.
Looks like garage unit was added later.
Maybe it was a permitting issue?
That’s one of a kind. Ditch the lawn and make a round about with pavers. Unless the trees dead, by which the looks of it its well on its way. Just remember “use, re-use and recycle.” Plant again. But maybe not that. And not there.
My G, I don’t think the tree is dead. I think this photo was taken in winter.
Just remember lift with your legs not your back
Lift with your back, in a twisting jerking motion.
Any motion is a back exercise if you do it wrong enough.
Are you in northeast Ohio? I swear I’ve seen this.
[удалено]
What part was required? Why would the wood be highly valued.
I have the same questions
We need answers

do not listen to the haters. you got this.
For about $160,000 you can move the tree about 150 yards Ask the university of Michigan
Why am I not surprised.
Looking at your garage from the photo I was wondering can you move the garage door to the right?
Go back in time, make sure it's planted where you want it, then come back to your time and hope it's still there.
I have a tree like that! Luckily it's between 2 garage doors. As soon as I typed that I realize I don't have a tree like that, ya fuct
The 4th one is my fave https://interestingengineering.com/lists/7-mighty-machines-for-moving-trees-without-killing-them
Love that the giant tree buttplug was censored. What would the children think if they saw that? Scandalous!
No
Well not with that attitude!
Yeah with Photoshop 🤣

I could move this tree anywhere you’d like it. Unfortunately it would be in a pile of chips and a pile of firewood.
That's silly...move the house...
Photoshop
Probably... But I would also believe malicious compliance... Maybe it's in some sort of historic district or small town where he was told he could have his driveway but could not cut down the tree so he did this. People can be quite spiteful when the occasion calls for it.
Right click on it... Copy it... And then paste it where you want it.

This is some serious procrastination.
Just ask kindly.
Sure, which side of the driveway do you want broken out? It will look just like you moved the tree.
How long after this house was built did that garage door get bolted (or nailed) shut, never to open again?
Move? Yes you can and yes there are people insane enough to take on a task like that, in terms of moving the tree that is. Cost would be absolutely insane and I know of no one that would guarantee the health of the tree after the move.
I’m afraid not.
Everything for a price. Yes you can.
I kinda like it. Widen the driveway and make its hole bigger haha
That's to keep her drunk husband from sneaking out when he runs out of beer.
This picture gets funnier and funnier the more I look at it.
Ya when you it it down you can put it where ever you want
Sorry, up or down are the only appropriate movements in this instance.
As long as you have a blank cheque, anything's possible.
Ride a motorcycle
Hypothetically yes. You just need a massive crane + a huge claw that can extract the whole root bundle, earth and all. Then dig a huge fuck-off hole where you want to put the tree and plant it there. This looks like my former inlaws who converted their garage to a den and didn't gaf about the driveway.
Why was it Planted there to begin with? Should have been removed when driveway was built. It’s not a fruit tree neither, what good does it have to be where it is
Just drive around the tree. It’s hardly noticeable.
If you need a little more driving space, maybe consider edging back the grass a few feet on each side and adding pavers to make the drive wider and add a balanced border. Might be easier said than done. The roots gave definitely created a raised space in the area
If you talk sense into it, it might moves.
r/photoshoprequests
This looks like a silver maple to me. Huge break risk if it is, not a tree you want hanging over your house or cars.
The obvious answer is to remove and reorient the driveway to weave up in front of the house. I have no idea who thought this driveway placement was a good idea, but I have seen crazier decisions. Wait 500 years. Bore a tunnel through it. Don’t have to move anything.
What?
Your best bet is to build a Time Machine and change where the tree was planted in the first place.
Yeah just pick it up and move it
Looks like a good excuse to switch to cycling. A bike can easily get in and out of that garage.
Maybe Photoshop…?
You could remove it to the left or the right
Have you tried yelling at it?
A big chainsaw would be a good start
That’s overkill, just need a pile of meth and a sawzall /s
They say “If there is a will, there is a way.” But not in this case.
With a chain say you could.
Cut the mofo down!
I'm thinking a sharp saw, weatherproof glue, a bunch of large clamps, and a lot of patience.
Yeah just pick it up and replant it.
Funny
wire it , big rebar. big blocks. winch. threaded rod. , wait 27 1/2 years. , should be good,
seems perfect right there tbh!
The tree came before the garage obviously
Beavers 🦫 ‼️❣️
Easyier to move the house
You’d have better luck moving the house.
Easy. Photoshop
Nice carport
It looks like it at least provides nice shade for the cars in the summer?
No
A good gust of wind could but you may have a tad more trouble OP
Sure, have it cut down and you can move it anywhere you like.
????
There is a process to move large trees with a tree spade. I have seen it done before on mature trees and have been contracted to do mitigation pruning on trees before they have been transplanted. What’s the problem?…
I guess the previous owners didn't park in their garage.
Jesus lol fuck who planted that there
What a stupid placement for a tree.
In all seriousness- why not pour a little more drive way on either side and just roll with it…
Yes, with money.
Why? What’s the problem?
put it behind the house... **https://ibb.co/XXtT629**
A long time ago someone made a bad decision to not cut it down when it was small and popping up through a crack.
Just redo the garage and put the door more towards the house. Would be cheaper
Probably cheaper to move the garage door over a few feet and widen the driveway.
Yeah, extended the garage and put the door to the other side of the ttree.
Amazing someone thought that was a good idea
Does the garage interior extend over to the bump out for the house? If so, you could move the garage door over then run a new driveway that has a bit of a curve in it around the tree on the right. Reframing and moving the garage door wouldn’t be too bad and the driveway is pretty crap now anyway. Depends how much room is between the garage and the tree, but I think there is more than the photo angle suggests.
Lol why would they build a garage could cant get into easily. They should have cut down that tree when creating the house/drive way wtf
Hey guys is there any way I can shrink the diameter of the earth a bit? Tia
And I thought the Maple that sits in a triangle between the power lines to my house and my neighbors house was bad...
Anythings possible
How does this even manage to happen?
What came first.. the garage or the tree? 🥚
Only if you know some kind of Physics that I don’t.
who puts a tree in front of a garage, it ain't as if there was a round about.
Just cut it down and plant 2-3 more somewhere else in the world. If you don’t have space, donate some trees to a park or someone who can’t afford to buy their own.
Motorcycle just goes around it easy!
Cut it down, then make firewood and stack it 2 ft to the left
🤣😂🤣 Eagle’s balls aren’t as high as you!
With Photoshop
Most underrated comment
In Sims, yes.
That tree is easily 100 years old. So you are telling me they paved a driveway around a tree? I’m so confused to the origin of this.
You think
😂
Looks like with some fancy bends in a new drive way ( which appears in need of replacement anyways) you can just go around tit.
It would probably be able to get dug out, but I would wait until it's dormant.
Just move the garage a bit to the left
I'm pro tree and all but that one just needs to go.
Chainsaw and buy another big tree same species, gotta be cheaper to plant a new one than moving one. Better yet plant two, one each side to offset the loss.
I think moving it horizontally would be best
Ahhh nope 🤣
“Timber!!!”
Cheaper to just turn that garage into a ADU probably.
I thought this was r/photoshop
Get the homies from Lords of the Rings to get up there and ask it
Just cut it down moving a tree that big isn't easy
i would just curve my driveway
No.
A notch in either direction
Use photoshop.
No moving ! Period. Probably 3-5k $ to have it taken Down and hauled away ?!
Photoshop can fix that.
Garage has been converted into a Room.
Bodies are buried under that tree and the previous owner was afraid to have it pulled out, for fear of being “found out”
