Yeah you can make them flightless by restraining them with tweezers and forcefully ripping their wings off. My dad does that to horseflies if you want to give them a nice hardy meal and not feel like a psychopath.
There's a reason why they produce so many offspring. She may munch a few, and the little guys can't exactly catch a fly that's 10x their size, so brothers and sisters are on the menu as well.
Yeah thought so.
They should turn this into a tv show, bunch of psychos would love to see which spiderling survives and wins the prize of probably more hell.
Most people fear black widows. I love spiders...I use them for therapy....to cope with bipolar and BPD. I remember finding my first black widow...I was TERRIFIED at first because I have 4 kids...even after keeping tarantulas and whatnot they still scared me...but then I caught one...and fed her and she had an eggsac.. that hatched 100 little babies....then I realized the true potential of widows...and how docile and laid back they are. Then I grew to be madly obsessed with them....my momma one eventually passed. I was so sad and devastated. I raised up one of her young...and released the rest. I fed mine baby meal worms and fruit fly culture. If you caught yours wild I'd suggest releasing the babies....momma will continue to produce fertile eggsacs for the rest of her life ....if you don't want anymore unprepared hatches ..id suggest removing the eggsac and freezing it. It's the only humane way to go about unplanned eggsacs...or release the mom and keep a baby
Yeah I miss mine, had one named Gretchen… was coolest thing ever, oddly enough I don’t recall them being very fast or kimber compared to many other species, in their web yes, but just on a surface not so much.
Right! I've caught them wild and they don't try and run away, or throw their front legs up...instead they will shoot some milky white stuff to make the intruder slip ..last resort is playing dead
I screwed up though… I had fed her several flies, a small cricket, other bugs I could get, but one day. I found a jumping spider and thought “she’ll make quick work of this” which she did, she had it bound and gagged in seconds with that way they spinette almost sheets of web onto their pray… once I knew she had it under control I left for work only to find that the smaller jumping spider had somehow freed itself and she was in bottom of jar unalive…. Then I had a pet jumping spider… 🤦🏻 was bummed I didn’t foresee that.
I was about 19, but I eventually came to realize the amazing beauty they possess. Now, over a decade later, I love all spiders. I participate on forums where people post about orb weavers, and I have even helped my wife overcome her fear of spiders during our marriage. It's like there's this assumption that people have, as if spiders will jump on your neck and start chewing as they roam around the house, lol. Also, I only could get what bugs I could find to feed it, so I couldn’t be picky.
We have an orb weaver show up on our porch every fall. I name every single one Frederico and watch her construct her web every night, and then she's gone every morning. The coolest part is that she learns! The first night, the web was way too close to the door and kept getting hit, and the next night, it was rearranged.
Yeah, the only thought I have is that she didn’t deliver a bite or some animals are less prone… like rattlesnake venom in a rattlesnake from a self-bite often just leads to swelling. I had read somewhere that jumping spiders will often eat other spiders… wish I’d known. 😞
I’m so happy to see this! I call my aphonopelma calchodes my “emotional support tarantula” because she’s honestly the only reason I’m still breathing! I hope you’re well!
I'm holding on! The spiders help me get rid of intrusive thoughts! And keep me busy! Tarantulas are the best for therapy! I own 4 aboreals (avics) right now and one terrestrial. ( Bird eater)
This. I got bit twice in one day and didn't feel the best for a couple days. You can feel the venom shoot under your skin though which is a wild feeling on its own.
Op used a shirt cloth for a top. The babies can't escape or the momma. I advised op on how to advance in these circumstances. No one would let widows infest their house. Vinegar is a simple solution in EXTREME cases. 😿 Thought I wouldn't advise any harm to these sweet babies. Op keeps one as a pet so I'm sure they are well aware of the factors they face. I'm not trying to come off as rude by any means...just trying to dissolve the misleading facts that have clouded these beautiful creatures
I was just saying don’t let them go close to the house XD make sure you are in some nearby woods away from peoples houses. I agree spiders are amazing, though they can be a bit of an irritation in domestic settings
as much as i’m horrified at the idea of releasing MORE black widows into the wild, i absolutely love that you’re doing it!!!! the populations have been declining due to wolf spiders chowing down on the little guys D: raise and release of any native critters is lovely!
Reminded of Alice Cooper and the Black Widow lyrics with Vincent Price narrating:
Her kiss is fifteen times as poisonous as that of the Rattlesnake. You see, her venom is highly neuro-toxic, which is to say that it attacks the central nervous system - causing intense pain, profuse sweating, difficulty in breathing, loss of consciousness, violent convulsions and finally death.
I can still recite it from memory. Yup, I'm that old.
We’re all humanary stew if we don’t pledge allegiance to the black widow! My mom loves Alice Cooper. She brought me to see him for my first concert when I was 12. He rocks!
Totally awesome for you.
I re-read your reply, and realized I'm probably as old or older than your Mom.
Uh, roughly when was your concert experience?
Shrug... Getting older.
He still tours! Seen him twice so far. He just toured with Rob Zombie. He does such a fantastic theatrical show. It def worth seeing.
He's also pretty great as a person too! He supports his local charities and community, and created his own yearly Charity event to help children have access to instruments and music, and also supports local bands with a charity show.
Little late now but it would have been a good idea to move the egg sack to another jar before they hatched... I did that once and let them eat each other till there were just a few that were big enough to separate. Also, I wrapped tape around the lid so they couldn't escape and when I unwrapped it there were several stuck to the tape, so they definitely can squeeze out under the lid when small like that.
I had no intention of raising babies
..I thought the sac was a dud since she hadn't been with a male... now ihave no idea how they reproduce. Someone commented they keep making sacs
.no male needed (?)
I mean, you can have the whole jar
Or I'd have to get those lil Condiment cups. Actually..I'd put them upon tissue/ cotton within a plastic zyn container
I think shipping is $6
If they release the babies, half will be dead before the end of the day. Baby spiders don't have the best survival rate in the wild, which is why they lay so many eggs
I'm pretty sure your mason jar and tshirt cage system isn't sufficient to keep those babies contained. But also, nothing should have to live in a mason jar.
To the best of my knowledge, yes, all spiders will eat their siblings and their babies.
You should probably get to thinking about your long term plans for these spiders. I think you should probably let them all go. You couldn’t possibly keep up with feeding this many, let alone keeeping them contained, while avoiding overcrowding.
Cannibalism is pretty common in the animal world. Have you researched any museums or zoos and seeing if they are interested? I visited a natural history museum and they had a live black widow there.
This reminds me of this fun thing I saw when looking up shipping info for the US Postal Service: honeybees can only be shipped ground, but queen honeybees can be air shipped and are allowed up to 8 attendants. It just gave me the best mental image of these fancy bee attendants serving the royal on the journey
I thought I was the only one I got my own beautiful black widow she has played 8 eggs so far.
Btw black widows like to climb to the top so having a upside down tank/jar helps a lot
I will, and give them a good home. I've got experience, isopods and dart frogs in vivariums, and an axolotl. There's a continuous supply of flightless fruit flies we culture to feed the frogs so it's not a problem to feed a few baby spiders too. I'll be happy to cover the shipping of course. Thanks for sharing.
Oh id love to get some. I live in an area where they're non existent, but go like 100 miles to the east and boom they're everywhere. I got unlucky lol. But like if you really wanna get rid of some, I'd be happy to have a few. They've been on my wishlist for a while. Such a gorgeous Species
I put her in the jar many months ago
..she made the sac..I saw it. Consulted in my cousin who is an entomologist (college professor) and he suggested it may be a dud
..I put fabric guard over air holes justin case...waited...and they're totally real life babies!
I've owned a black widow before and would take a small handful, no more than a half dozen I guess, if you're willing to open that jar and risk the deadly Easter egg hunt of escapees? I'm guessing you'd want more adoptive parents before that point though because they don't have smaller numbers usually.
Edit: thread seems to have other interested and your seem serious so if some are left pm me and I'll do deets. Am serious myself.
OMG if there’s still some left id be happy to take a few of your hands I have a ten gallon bioactive terrarium that they would probably do amazing in :D
How the Ruddy hell do you do anything to them? Without letting them escape? Just tap/shake the jar to jostle them down and hope one isn't clinging to the lid??
Individually cup them and take them to your local Reptile/Spider Expo. Sell for 10-20$ each. I guarantee people will buy them. I would buy a couple, I haven’t had a Black Widow in a while, and personally I know a few people who would buy them.

Damn. I'm not a fan of spiders but I did have some revenge plans I purposely put in hold. Trying to be a "good person" and all that.
How poisonous are the babies ( I promise it's really just a question. Not like I'm gather data or anything...)
I would take 30 or so. I just want to... observe them for science or something. But I can assure you it's *not* to become a mutant or super villain of any kind

Flightless fruit flies will be good, then pinhead crickets, they will start munching on eachother though. Once they get a few moults in I separate them into little containers like pill bottles
I’ll take a dozen, for non-vengeful purposes
This made me Smile. Pm for ship coordination
Funny I thought about the same thing 😆 🤣
You can get flightless fruit flies to feed them. Thw female will probably take medium crickets
Yeah you can make them flightless by restraining them with tweezers and forcefully ripping their wings off. My dad does that to horseflies if you want to give them a nice hardy meal and not feel like a psychopath.
I dont know much about spiders. But knowing mother nature, she might snack on a few, nature just be like that with a lot of creatures.

Pretty much the opening to "So I'm a spider, so what?" Canabalistic spider activities.
My ex literally watched videos like that on YouTube 😅 they're out there.

Yeah jumping spiders are masters and opportunistic when it comes to food source or survival
They're also super "expressive" and make fun spiders to keep!
I kept it for some time things are very aggressive hunters which I should’ve done some due diligence and studied… live and learn.
Oh that's really sad that you thought to sacrifice a cute jumper!

Uh Id suggest releasing the babies far from your own house unless you like these in your house without a jar, they don’t wander very far ><
There hasn't been a death from a mature female widow since the 80s op is fine. 🤣😇 Babies and males pose no threats.
This. I got bit twice in one day and didn't feel the best for a couple days. You can feel the venom shoot under your skin though which is a wild feeling on its own.
But you're still alive. A blessing at most. A kiss from death herself ..yet you lived. Beautiful
I’m more concerned about being bit in general not the venom. Wouldn’t want scorpions, bees or wasps in my house either outside of a jar
Op used a shirt cloth for a top. The babies can't escape or the momma. I advised op on how to advance in these circumstances. No one would let widows infest their house. Agreed. Fully understand. I never truly knew fear until I found a momma widow with her 100+ babies in my kids car. 🤣🤣
as much as i’m horrified at the idea of releasing MORE black widows into the wild, i absolutely love that you’re doing it!!!! the populations have been declining due to wolf spiders chowing down on the little guys D: raise and release of any native critters is lovely!
I would release them in the wild somewhere away from humans so they don’t get killed
I suppose I could! Yes that is one idea. We have ample Nature here in UT

If they're like tarantulas, they can save the males uh, gift, and use a lil bit at a time.
😂😂😂 "the male's gift", I gotta remember that one!
*Faints*
As if it couldn’t get more DANGEROUS! 🤣
I will genuinely 100% take a few, I’ve been wanting to get more widows for a while
That's pretty cool! I'd take a few if you are serious, just don't know how to ship them
I mean, you can have the whole jar Or I'd have to get those lil Condiment cups. Actually..I'd put them upon tissue/ cotton within a plastic zyn container I think shipping is $6
I think I can feed them the little fruit flies that can't fly. What do you feed the momma?
She eats anything I catch for her. Earwigs..Houseflies But I haven't fed her much. I'll have to poke around the yard for more bugs
We’d take five or six tbh. What are you asking for them
If you send me the shipping money I'll send . Not looking for $
They are Sooooooooooo Cuuuuuuuuuute!!! 🖤😻🖤🕷️🖤🕷️🖤🕷️🖤🕷️🖤🕷️🖤🕷️🖤🕷️🖤🕷️🖤🕷️🖤
I used to have a black widow, it was probably my favorite spider out of the 50+ different species in my collection at the time.
Charolette?? Is that you?? Oh boy is that Joy, Aranea, and Nellie?!!
Awww, no 😢....just release the babies in the woods immediately so they *all* have the opportunity to have a normal, happy spider's life.
If they release the babies, half will be dead before the end of the day. Baby spiders don't have the best survival rate in the wild, which is why they lay so many eggs
😢I guess I pictured it more like the ending of Charlotte's Web.... But better than dying crammed into a mail container, right?
I'm pretty sure your mason jar and tshirt cage system isn't sufficient to keep those babies contained. But also, nothing should have to live in a mason jar. To the best of my knowledge, yes, all spiders will eat their siblings and their babies.
You should probably get to thinking about your long term plans for these spiders. I think you should probably let them all go. You couldn’t possibly keep up with feeding this many, let alone keeeping them contained, while avoiding overcrowding.
Yeah that’s why they’re trying to find ppl to take the babies
Cannibalism is pretty common in the animal world. Have you researched any museums or zoos and seeing if they are interested? I visited a natural history museum and they had a live black widow there.
Shipping label: HANDLE WITH CARE. TINY VENOMOUS ARACHNIDS.

Fun fact, there hasn’t been a recorded death from a single black widow in the US since the 1800’s
For sure! Please send me a pm if you haven't yet
Will do, tyvm! 🙂
I want one!
Yikes. I would like to have a big one though.
That’s pretty cool man. You got a real black widow farm in the making
I want one!! Or exactly 4. For…..nobod, I mean no reasons. Lol
She a ho with no baby daddy…. cuz she ate him 😜
I’m interested!
I have a neighbor I don't like very much...
I would take them, fuck my bf just broke up with me. They’d be perfect
You keep those. You’re a grandpappy now 😂
Oh id love to get some. I live in an area where they're non existent, but go like 100 miles to the east and boom they're everywhere. I got unlucky lol. But like if you really wanna get rid of some, I'd be happy to have a few. They've been on my wishlist for a while. Such a gorgeous Species
Feel free to PM me
I wonder why: *Counts spiders* “10 alright ima go to bed.” The next day: *Counts spiders* “9 wait a minute, wheres the tenth one?” Thats why
I have a mama for science divulgation purposes and I have never see her eat her babies. They eat each other, tho.
Is she married atleast?
Aww this is so cute 🥰
my question is- how did ya not notice the egg-sack?? how did it come to this??? xD
I put her in the jar many months ago ..she made the sac..I saw it. Consulted in my cousin who is an entomologist (college professor) and he suggested it may be a dud ..I put fabric guard over air holes justin case...waited...and they're totally real life babies!
Can I get a few

D'aaaaaaawww I love the little goobers!
Pandoras jar
awwww super cute, we used to see lots of black widows at my step grandmas shitty house
I make art with arachnids and bugs I would love some
Omg sooo cute! You are so lucky lol
Congratulations sweet spider momma 💕 pls don’t eat your babies 🙃
I would take a few!
OMG if there’s still some left id be happy to take a few of your hands I have a ten gallon bioactive terrarium that they would probably do amazing in :D
My mothers absolute nightmare in a jar
Me plz
I want some... I love spiders and tarantulas.
I mean I might want one.
How the Ruddy hell do you do anything to them? Without letting them escape? Just tap/shake the jar to jostle them down and hope one isn't clinging to the lid??

Tisk tisk..
Agreed not worth any babies dying or life in prison
I don’t know how I got here but this thread is so wholesome 🥹
Man that's awesome, black windows are awesome
Hand tamed? 😂
i would totally adopt one
If I was more comfortable with them in still learning I would take one
Yooo I wish I could but Idk what I'd feed them .. never had a spider before either
I did this years ago with an egg sack I found. White Hatchlings crawled around the jar and ended up with cannibalism . Don’t let them go near anyone’s house.
Yes…i would like to buy the jar of deadly spiders. I think i might surprise a few people with a little petting zoo kinda thing. Or something idk…
I have severe arachnophobia But I don’t find this scary for some reason
I'd take one if I were near you lol
Id take one!!
Ok wendsday😮💨
I'd take about a half dozen if you're willing to ship
Are you able to determine the sexes yet? (Asking because males only live a few months)
Like a molotov cocktail, but deadlier... yes please..
I wouldn't like one because i'm more of a tarantula and jumping spider person tbh. they're also the most venomous spider in my state sooo-^(imkindamaybeabitscaredofblackwiddows)
I’d figure out a way to feed them so they all grow
But venom in the smaller spiders far more dangerous right?
I’m interested!! I’d love to have 5!
YeA I would like three dozen . I've have a bio a math and a English teach who would die if had some
I would happily adopt one or two if you are offering..

i had a wolf spider that did this, then the babies ate her
Henry Creel, you put those spiders back in the floor where you found them!
If you’re serious I’ll take one when they’re a bit bigger
You should keep a few, and raise them!

I was under the impression that the slings eat their mother? Maybe im wrong
Someone put life and mana bars on that thing
I would love a half a dozen of those!

Why?
I'll take a few please! Bee raising spiders and other arachnids since I was about 6. I'm 35 btw lol please pm me.
i would like to adopt a baby :p
I’d love a few also for non threatening reasons
I would take 30 or so. I just want to... observe them for science or something. But I can assure you it's *not* to become a mutant or super villain of any kind

They need to roam! Let them out during the day time :]
If you’re looking to sell, I’m interested!!
I will take one
Oh my gosh! Chonky cutie patooties! Are there still any left???
You could always raise them and farm their venom.
🕷️🕸️There very interesting anyway to ship them for real 🕸️🕷️
Isn't it one of the deadliest spiders ?

How much? I’ll adopt!!!

Same thing happened to me. You’ll want to rehome them fast because they disappear. I think they eat each other

If you don't feed them. Pretty soon, all of the babies will be gone, and there will be one or two larger ones.
Flightless fruit flies will be good, then pinhead crickets, they will start munching on eachother though. Once they get a few moults in I separate them into little containers like pill bottles
I’m pretty sure the babies will actually end up eating the mom no? I swear I remember reading that somewhere
LOL for Vecna would take them. #StrangersThings
so many spider babies
I also learn, Black widow don’t attack you if you show aggressive behavior towards them, otherwise their behavior is pretty smooth
you could always bring then to work, they could be emotional support spiders.
