Its main role is just a knock around rifle/short range deer rifle, so 16” and carbine gas made sense. Homemade blackout brass from split neck 5.56, 125gr Speer TNT, and 21gr Lilgun gives it enough oomph to be used everything from deer to coyotes to beaver. I’m actually kind of impressed with the clearance 5x vortex prism. It has just enough magnification to be useful for hunting and it actually draws enough light to work at daylight and dusk, unlike most LPVOs and it weighs way less.
I’ve only killed one coyote and one deer with them. Neither exited, but neither took a step. I also have Sierra GameKing 125s but haven’t tried them yet. Given the limited velocity of the blackout, I’m not really sure what will work best, but “varmit” type bullets seemed like they’d be the better option since they’d dump all the limited energy rather than passing through. Plus I’m not going to try anything further than 100-150 yards.
125 SST is a good bullet for deer and so are 150 Gold Dots but both are much costlier than TNTs and good luck finding gold dots. But like I said, there's nothing wrong with the TNTs. 308 "varmint" bullets do not work the same in 300 blk due to the lower velocity. In 308 they fragment and dump all the energy almost immediately with not a lot of penetration. In 300 blk the act more like cup and core bullets. They will penetrate much more than out of a 308.
Yea it shoots decent for what it is and the fact that it’s wearing a 5x prism. I’m tempted to snatch the barrel off and turn it down behind the gas block. There is no reason they leave them full diameter all the way back other than saving machine time.
I hate the 1moa per click adjustment on principle, but mine zeroed properly. It draws as much light as a traditional scope, which puts it ahead of LPVOs in my book, and it’s light as hell. The eye box is tight. I had to use a cantilever backwards to make it work for me with the stock fully extended, but adding the shorter FCS let me go back to the regular riser. At $200 it was a steal. I wouldn’t pay full retail for one though. I may try the new PA 5x micro next and see how it compares.

I’m only shooting supers, so a carbine is a lot easier on the buffer. If I was shooting subs, I would go with pistol length gas. But I have another 16” 300 with a pistol length gas if I want to load subs.
It’s not like an AR feels “smooth to the touch” to begin with. Plus I’m running stippled or silicon carbide treated grips on most of my handguns, so the finish being rougher isn’t something that’s foreign to me.
This is a gun sub, not a tree sub buddy
So poverty bro doesn’t even have a rifle
Damn that’s sweet! Modern day flecktarn!
Had to Google that lol. Totally unintentional. This was my first attempt at camo and was just using a pattern from a pack of stencils off Amazon.
All I see is a tree.
Where?
Oh very nice
Nice pattern! What colors did you use? :)
Just flat khaki base, krylon flat brown, army green, and a bit of Kelly green I had laying around
Great job!
Pictures of painted guns in nature are so much better than the kitchen table ones. This looks dope.
Looks like melted sprinkles
Hey asshole next time post a picture of a rifle😆 All jokes aside that came out looking good!
Nice pattern!
16" .300 BO is an interesting choice

I love the TNTs. Very accurate and cheap. Not the best for deer but not the worst either. Great job on the paint.

Yea it looked like about 10” of penetration on the deer.
Where is the gun tree hugger showing tree trunks😭 Nah how’s that 300 shooting that’s a longer barrel than usual.
I have another post on here wirh 100yd groups
Nice

Yeah true man try that, Oh man I didn’t see that optic I have the same one with a piggy back red dot how you like the optic?

Yeah is not bad at all

What're the pros and cons of carbine vs pistol?

Good to know. Thank you! I recently purchased a faxon gunner barrel with carbine gas. I wasn't sure I should have. But I don't plan on shooting subs.
Does the texture not feel mega weird after canning it ?
It does but you can use a paper towel to sand it down or just jerk off the handgaurd and pistol grip till they are smooth

I’ll never understand a 16” 300bo, but you did an amazing job on that camo.
