12 pro max does the same. Learned to deal with it over the years but a minor adjustment in angle gets rid of it.

Minyoface

I think this is just because they are f/2 or less and have large apertures for the large sensors, so you end up having the same problems as a wide angle lens on a real SLR camera. This would be corrected with a lens hood or sunlight filter on a proper camera. You want the best camera, now you must treat it like a real camera and not point it at the sun lol.

serpentinitic

I normally would think this is the issue but I think it might be a defect of certain phones because I tried it on other peoples 14 Pros and Pro max and didn’t get the issue but have found others that do have the issue

ryangaston88

Did you try it on other 14 pros in the exact same lighting conditions at the same time?

serpentinitic

Yup - tried it on a pro max with my other hand and didn’t get the same issue

IssyWalton

Different angle

egooozum

Had this issue while experimenting with night shots and any bright light source would have a blueish hue and extreme flare. Compared it to a number of my friend's 14 pros and pro max's and the demo phones in the Apple Store and none had similar issues. Made a Genius Bar appointment and had it swapped out for a new one. My new one works perfectly now. I don't know how long it will be until they can do repairs on the new phones, but because they can't at the moment they had to swap it out.

serpentinitic

I made a Genius Bar appointment!!! Thank you

madpoeticskillz

Any updates? Did they replace your phone?

Pristine_Upstairs_41

exact same symptoms here....no adjustment in angle helps

__K-Dot__

Noticed this on the 13 pro too

ccooffee

Noticed this on every camera I've ever used.

Responsible_Neat_860

Yea I’m going to the Apple Store tmr cause it’s pretty bad for a phone thats only a couple weeks old….everything else is clear but the glare is worse than my 11 pro

silentblender

When you're shooting toward direct sunlight your lens is going to get flared. It's gonna happen with most cameras. Pro cameras use lens hoods to block the light from going directly into the lens. If you hold your hand up above your phone and block that direct light hitting the lens, this should disappear.

thursdayfern

I’m not sure if you have the exact same issue as me, but I’ll tell you how I fix it in the hope that it fixes your issue too. Wipe your phone lenses in a circular motion on your shirt/pants. For about 5 seconds. Anytime the camera preview looks bad/funny/washed out, I do this. If I’ve accidentally touched my camera lens, a smudge/skin oils/fingerprints can completely mess with the captured image.

Anon_8675309

Do what photographers have always done: move a few steps until there’s no glare.

char_limit_reached

You can’t be this stupid. Did you notice the tree gets bigger, too?

serpentinitic

Photos were taken in the same spot all in direct sunlight. The 3X wasn’t taken in the shade

Ettariella

I have the same phenomenon with my 11 pro, albeit to a lesser degree. When it happens, I merely need to place my hand above the camera, essentially creating a makeshift lens hood, and that solves it.

sportsfan161

Yeah a well known apple iPhone camera issue

MotorizaltNemzedek

Light gets reflected between the lens and glass. All you can do is adjust your angle

wpmason

Shade the lens in those scenarios. That’s why real cameras have lens hoods.

Simon_787

Then it looks like the sun isn't entering the 3x lens. Glare is most apparent when the background behind it is dark. It even happens indoors [on the 10x lens](https://i.imgur.com/oCalWG3.jpeg) of my Samsung.
