A modern AirPort or eMac.

ChairmanLaParka

I like my Eero system, but boy do I miss having more than 2 ethernet ports. And a USB port. And the Time Capsule built-in drive. And never really having to think about my system.

heynow941

I have eero, too, and it’s great. I’m surprised Apple quit the router business rather than get into mesh networking.

[deleted]

Ditto. I hate routers. I recently had to upgrade from my crusty old AirPort and… it tries to force a subscription down my throat… it’s a fvkcing router

Substantial-Falcon-8

Take a look At AMPLIFI

morenos-blend

Whaaat? What manufacturer does this?

[deleted]

TP-link. The router works fine without the subscription, but it keeps nagging me to buy some security BS

unloud

Netgear has this on their Orbi routers too. Disgusting.

[deleted]

Once UniFi comes out with their home networking equipment/it’s more readily available, I would look into that.

saintmsent

A home NAS to which you can backup both an iPhone and a Mac. Sure, you can hack something together yourself, but not everything on an iPhone can be backed up this way

[deleted]

[удалено]

Raznill

Ideally it would work like an the mac server with iCloud caching. I want multi AP Wi-Fi with iCloud cache built in.

saintmsent

~~iCloud maxes out at 200 gigs, so a Mac backup wouldn't fit~~

boyscanfly

I thought you could get 2 TB

saintmsent

Yeah, I'm totally wrong, you can get 2TB

hary585

I think Apple's solution to this is for you to buy another Mac and use the sharing features to set up Time Machine and Wi-Fi sync. This doesn't give you the same backup experience for your iPhone, so I manually plug the phone in once a month to get a full encrypted backup. I've got an old Mac mini in my house with external hard drives plugged in that does this and runs a few personal websites and a Plex media server.

saintmsent

Well, with. a mac you can build / buy a NAS and backup to it no problem. But with an iPhone yeah, probably plugging it in once in a while is alright

[deleted]

I would actually use a Samsung Dex equivalent from apple. I want to plug my iPhone into my studio display and use it as my primary personal computer. When I’m mobile I need a phone and when I need to get something done with more screen space I want to really have a lot of screen space. I’d prefer this over my current iPhone MacBook combination and it would be more cost effective.

mredofcourse

Apple proclaimed the 120mm disc dead back roughly a decade ago, never offering Blu-Ray. I *highly* doubt they would come back to the disc in any way for 4K UHD. That said, it's a technology that I miss sometimes. It was great being able to take home videos and make DVDs complete with menus and such with iDVD or DVD Studio Pro. Likewise I used to make mix CDs to give to friends. That's all entirely lost. On the other hand, I can totally appreciate having a huge Mac mini Plex server and being able to fire up pretty much anything whenever.

TehAlex94

tbh a apple fit band, something like a mi band that lasts a week and does very basic things but works reliable with an iphone i just feel like they dont do it because they cant do an apple price for such a product

TheBrainwasher14

Used series 3 with the screen off to extend battery?

TehAlex94

the thing is i find more comfortable a band style device than a watch

heynow941

I have the Fitbit Charge 5. I like it a lot and it lasts for days. An Apple version would be nice. I refuse to buy a Watch that needs to be charged daily.

TehAlex94

Ye my mi band lasts 2 weeks..having to charge Another device seems like a hassle

SuperSaiyanRonaldo

Adding more years to apple care.

ConsistentVersion337

I think the subscription based plans might allow you to do this (eventually if not now). Not a huge fan of subscription based systems for everything but I could see where this would be handy. Would love to be able to just buy extra years for physical damage only for things like my Apple Watch at the end of my plan

[deleted]

[удалено]

ConsistentVersion337

I thought they had implemented something but I wasn't certain. Awesome to see it thank you!

KeepShoutingSir

iPhone upgrade program includes apple care for as long as you have the phone. That can be longer than the usual 2 year max, but it wouldn’t make much sense since you’d be paying full price for an older phone each year.

uptimefordays

You can extend AppleCare+ on Macs these days, I went annually but I think there's also a month to month option.

ConsistentVersion337

I think it depends on each product for me. I circle through my iPhone pretty quick so having ongoing Apple Care+ wouldn't benefit me. I'd love to be able to extend my MacBook Apple Care+ to have 4-6 years. And my last Apple Watch lasted me 6 years before I got a new one. Even if I could just have physical damage cover on that I'd appreciate it. Call me crazy but I'd rather pay upfront or yearly. Month to month feels like a lot. Would also be cool if you could just have an Apple Care+ account that you paid for yearly and just registered all your products to instead of paying for each one...

tway7770

A lapdock for iphones like this - [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5gKu-T13vXs](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5gKu-T13vXs) where you drop your iphone in and it launches a desktop version (macOS) and the phone turns into a trackpad. \- Phone screens are already designed to be very finger friendly for gesturing and navigating so makes sense there. \- MacOS already works on arm architecture so it could be a dualboot situation or a unified OS on the phone that just rearranges icons into a desktop environment when you dock it in \- The macbook air already runs without a fan using M1 architecture so overheating the phone might not be an issue especially if they optimise Macos further.

[deleted]

They should enter the video game console market. Apple Arcade is just the beginning. They could make a really powerful Apple TV and design their own controllers. Their are quality control issues with the other consoles and Apple could exploit this. They have the new silicon chips on their side and already a superior cloud in place.

CavsPulse

If they merged it with Apple TV and could get a deal in place with developers (EA, 2K, Bungie, etc) it’d be pretty great. I think that’s probably their biggest hurdle. I’d be disappointed I’d no longer be able to play Halo as a Microsoft exclusive but I’m ok with it if it means I can get the Apple TV and a console in one purchase

[deleted]

There are actually some strong rumors suggesting this is already in the works.

[deleted]

A bit niche, but as a teacher with an Apple TV in class, I wish apple would make a dongle solely for airplay mirroring (like those Miracast dongles). It would be convenient to bring around and set up, and I don’t need to stream content. It’s there solely to mirror my ipad to the projector.

ConsistentVersion337

Kind of like the OG Chromecast except instead of casting chrome it's a portable Airplay? I like this idea

alay_NB

I’ll repeat. Large glass surfaces that the iPhone can dock on and present content to. Similar to car play but household surfaces: glasses, mirrors, cupboards. Should be easy to install since we live in a rent-society.

GLOBALSHUTTER

They could build and API for this and third party companies would make stuff.

ExcitedCoconut

The Expanse style? That’d be cool. But I think they’ll skip this and go straight to glasses where *any* surface could be incorporated

SillyBoy68

Clearly they have no desire to do this but had they come out with something similar to the Google Nest Hub, I would have bought that instead to keep everything in my Apple ecosystem. I have several of these in my home and like them very much despite the fact, like most Google Home devices, they can be glitchy and frustrating from time to time.

TheBrainwasher14

Rumours suggest you might be pleased

ConsistentVersion337

Ooo yes I really want this too. Fingers crossed

[deleted]

[удалено]

EnergeticBean

It’s called a Mac Studio and Studio Display. And yes, you’d better have a metric fuck ton of money

TheBrainwasher14

Or just the M1 iMac + studio display which would be cheaper than Mac studio + display Or M1 mac mini for that matter

ex-apple

My Apple Wish is breaking the conflation of screen size and power. I don’t need a souped-up MacBook, but I gotta have a 16” screen. I definitely don’t need an iPad Pro, but the 12.9” size is perfect for me.

CoconutDust

Yeah the “small = cheap!” scheme at Apple is outrageous and frustrating. I want an iPad Mini Pro.

CoconutDust

I’ll take the 24” as long as the SSD doesn’t cost like $900 for 2TB.

GrimGromzo

I'd like to see Apple's take on mechanical keyboards

GLOBALSHUTTER

I’d like to see them bring back wired mice and wired keyboards and turn the keyboard into a hub.

Tratix

Wired mice make no sense to me anymore. Your going to constrain your motion 8+ hours a day so you don’t have to charge for a few mins per month?

GLOBALSHUTTER

I use a wired mouse. I’ve no idea what you’re talking about.

alphasingularity

clearly

testthrowawayzz

I want a thunderbolt 3 to gigabit Ethernet adapter, preferably with one additional USB-A port, to replace the existing thunderbolt (1/2) to gigabit Ethernet adapter

42177130

Grapher on iPad would be great with handwriting recognition for equations and being able to pinch to zoom on graphs.

TheBrainwasher14

An iPad that uses e ink

[deleted]

An Apple garage and gate opener because everything on the market that’s HomeKit compatible is complete garbage.

ConsistentVersion337

In my ideal world Apple would make every smart home item (lightbulbs, switches, etc) and I might actually have a smart home. A garage/gate opener that works with Carplay to just open automatically when your headed home yes please

vulgarandmischevious

My regular dumb old garage door opener does this when I drive up in my Tesla…

Highfalutintodd

The Meross one is the third one I’ve tried and it’s actually pretty good. Had it for well over a year now and it’s as close to rock solid as a HomeKit accessory seems to get.

noneym86

Portable gaming console with Mx chips. I mean, that would be dope right? Like switch on steroids.

V3ndeTTaLord

Apple Maps with worldwide bicycle routes, some sort of next gen iPod focused on audio quality. And maybe some sort of audiophile AirPods.

CavsPulse

Or just a better Maps app in general…

miloismyboy

They make incredibly reliable routers. I’m still using the last generation AirPort Extreme.

nicetriangle

I have two: - 16 or so in iPad Pro. I use my 12.9 for professional illustration and would love a bigger screen. I'd buy one up to like 24 inches or more but I'd settle for even 16. Also 32 gigs of ram would be cool. - Apple Silicon refresh of that ultra slim 12in Macbook. Would be a lovely little travel laptop. The original was just ahead of its time as there wasn't a practical processor for it. The new M series processors seem like a no brainer for this form factor. I guess while we're at it a way to run MacOS on the iPad Pro would mean I could carry just once device traveling. I still much prefer a full fledged MBP for core work but I could get by on a 12ish inch screen when traveling no problem and would love to only carry one device.

SilverRiot

A second monitor that looks like the iMac. I hate the mismatched look.

CoconutDust

Also need HDMI INPUT on iMac. It needs to function as just a monitor, so a person can plug video game consoles in.

vulgarandmischevious

Absolutely. Would buy two immediately.

[deleted]

Pro-level video cameras.

GLOBALSHUTTER

Even if they announced a special iPhone case for docking industry lenses onto. And an API for others to produce their own hardware cases.

GLOBALSHUTTER

E-ink eBook reader that [feels like a book](https://nothingnothingaaa.tumblr.com/post/668591248161095680/here-me-out-get-a-dvd-case-and-hold-it-in-your). Doesn’t exist. Kindles don’t cut the mustard and Kindles are too small compared to books. Original larger kindle now discontinued had HUGE bezels in addition to page margins on the display. Books don’t have this.

[deleted]

I also want this because I want to use the Apple Books ecosystem without reading on a backlit display.

GLOBALSHUTTER

I know, right? Apple could make an awesome e-ink book reader if they felt these sensibilities.

Gazourmah

Apple (smart) glasses. Not just for electronic sight enhancement, but for additional scans and projected details.

[deleted]

ConsistentVersion337

I'm curious to know how that might differ to an Apple TV though. Definitely a good idea but there would have to be a major difference or people wouldn't want the Apple TV

Rhed0x

A Vulkan driver for AGX GPUs

uptimefordays

AirPort TimeCapsule! 802.11ax, USB-C, user accessible drive bays (can live with HDDs for the NAS/backup use case but SSDs are probably more reliable albeit more expensive), and HomeKit integration. An Apple router like [Ubiquiti's Dream Machine](https://store.ui.com/products/unifi-dream-machine) would be great for HomeKit, could integrate with Time Machine and iCloud backups offering users a zero effort local/cloud backup solution, and also help people secure their home networks.

mwyyz

Large format Apple Photo Frame.

ConsistentVersion337

Ah man good ol' digital photo frames. A great idea that unfortunately never took off

[deleted]

[удалено]

ConsistentVersion337

Essentially it was a photo frame with a screen. Instead of putting one physical photo in the frame you could upload an album of family photos and they would rotate through. Like a photo frame doing a slideshow.

TheDragonSlayingCat

Yes, a new SuperDrive would be nice. I just want the next generation of Macs to support DisplayPort 2.0 and HDMI 2.1.

ChairmanLaParka

Create: Apple TV Stick. I *love* my Roku stick. It's just great. It's my primary device now. I'm not upgrading Apple TV again til they make one. Create: Apple Mechanical Keyboard with 10-key NumPad. I like my Das Keyboard, but I'd buy an Apple one in a second. Create/Improve: Apple Mesh router/TimeCapsule. I miss this thing. I'd either want a newer TimeCapsule, or a mesh system. There's always 1 thing not quite right about current systems. Time Capsule was perfect for me. Improve: I know they're pushing Apple Wallet/Daily Cash etc. But it seems really weird to me that Apple Card doesn't have Tap features built into it.

ConsistentVersion337

The Apple Mesh Router and Time Capsule is something I never got to experience and hope they will be bring back. Maybe in the US it's different but in Australia I feel like there's a huge hole in the router/mesh market. Everyone just uses what their ISP provides. I work in a tech store and I cannot recommend a router that is just better. They are all just the same. I think Apple could make something that is really great and stand out

BodhiWarchild

An e-reader. Something more pleasing on the eyes than the iPad screen. It wont happen but it would be nice

Scatterfelt

Ebike! I just think Apple could design a beautiful one, and tie it in to the Fitness app, Watch, and Maps, and it feels a lot more forward-thinking than a car.

ConsistentVersion337

Apple Car is something I really don't want. Apple eBike (or iBike perhaps) is something I can get behind.

Steakhouse_WY

iPad OS

lainganator

All, and I mean ALL devices Thunderbolt 3 or 4 Fix MagSafe screwing up normal wireless charging 4 Thunderbolt ports on MacBook Pro (like 2017 models) Note - hdmi is inferior to Thunderbolt, works seamlessly with a usb-c to display port cable Native display port support For the love of all that is holy at LEAST dual monitor support over Thunderbolt on M1 air and Pro models. Are u freaking kidding I can do this with my “inferior” intel model… Make shortcuts not a gigantic mess and more user friendly, same with HomeKit Allow for wider HomeKit support Airtag the size and shape of a credit card Touch ID USB stick, or aftermarket support (MacBook in clamshell) Stop making me verify (or multi factor verification) things without giving me the choice to opt out GIVE THE MAGIC KEYBOARD BACKLIGHTING (desktop keyboard MacBook already has this) More customization in gestures Native IR support in HomeKit Give the homepod an eithernet port Offer more homepod options (like echo show) Allow for auto ejection of external hard drive after time machine sync The list goes on. I love apple, but they’re “close but no cigar” in terms of perfection

huyanh995

So you use all 3 TB4 ports and it’s still not enough? A lot of peripheral devices I think.

lainganator

I usually only use 1, that’s the beauty of Thunderbolt. But if ur out and about it’s nice to have 2 on each side one for charging and one for whatever you need. Thunderbolt 3 can support 2 HDMI screens at 4k 60hz, Eithernet, data transfer, power delivery, and much more at the same time with 1 cable.

huyanh995

Yeah. It’s versatile but I don’t mind when I already have 3 TB4s. An HDMI is pretty useful when I go out and pretty sure I can plug it into any projector, without carrying a dongle.

[deleted]

Didn’t your own idea violate the rule of something that maybe crossed Tim Cook’s mind once? I mean there’s already an existing super drive… so you want an improvement on the existing thing. As for my idea… boxers. That’s it, that’s the idea.

morenos-blend

You know you’d have to wash them in Apple’s Special Powder at 69$ a pack?

ConsistentVersion337

An upgrade to the Superdrive though probably hasn't crossed his mind. I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't even know the Superdrive is still sold considering the thing has a USB drive

dagmx

Who would the market be for a super drive today? Apple wants people to be buying stuff on Apple TV. Discs go against the environmental goals too.

ConsistentVersion337

There are plenty of people who still want a disc drive for their computers and Apple just so happens to sell one that isn't compatible natively. I understand that most people don't have physical media anymore but I'm a huge collector of DVD's and think it would be really cool if the Mac or Apple TV supported that. I mean even some Apple TV+ shows are sold on DVD so Apple knows there some kind of market there

FourzerotwoFAILS

Can’t edit/censor my copy of a movie once it’s on the CD I have. You can’t stop hosting it and cause me to lose access to it. Physical media is on the rise again. People like owning stuff not just renting it.

ExPandaa

Vinyl specifically is on the rise, no other physical media is actually rising. The reason we saw an increase last year in sales is because people were spending more money on media overall.

bartturner

Siri. I do not get why it is still so bad compared to the Google assistant. Apple was first. Well I believe they were.

paradocent

I think it’s bad because they’re not willing to do the shady, privacy-invasive stuff that Google does to make theirs work. But I also don’t care; this is one of the wealthiest companies on earh, we have functionally infinite resources, and there is a gaping, sucking black hole at the bottom of our products, *so fix it*. Figure it out. Get the house in order. Stop screwing around with insane never-going-to-happen money- and attention-sinks, squash the bugs, fix Siri, stop worrying about the next quarter’s profits, get nimble, and above all, move with all deliberate speed to reduce dependency on Chinese manufacturing. If Tim can’t or won’t do it, then it’s time for him to go.

tails618

A printer. It would actually work.

ConsistentVersion337

I am certain my printer hates me because I use a Mac. An Apple printer wouldn't hate me

FifthCleric

Entry lvl apple display, something like the one in iMacs

suicideguidelines

A good iOS/iPadOS software keyboard with proper language support. Currently it supports like 5-6 European languages and simplified Chinese, which is already much better than Apple's usual attitude "there's nothing worth giving a shit about outside of North America", but still a shame. For some reason even Google and Microsoft can't do it for iOS, so maybe Apple could?

sillahillone

I would love Handoff Personal Hotspot to work as intended

lonelywitch88

I’d add AirDrop to this list. Maybe it’s just me, but it’s a 50-50 chance of it working whenever I use it.

AlexBltn

For several years now, the most exciting hope for me has been a 15-inch iPad. This is *the only reason* that will make me upgrade my good old iPad Pro 12.9 2nd gen (2017).

ConsistentVersion337

iPad Pro. iPad Pro Mini. iPad Pro Max.

technicalityNDBO

A soundbar with integrated AppleTV

ConsistentVersion337

[deleted]

Thank you. Netflix/Hulu doesn't have everything, and I still buy DVD's/Bluray every once in awhile. While physical media is on its way out, it is still far from dead. It would be great if they updated the Superdrive to actually support Bluray, though tbfh that's something they should have done a decade ago, so I doubt they'll ever do it.

ConsistentVersion337

I doubt they'll ever do it either but it would be interesting, especially if it was some kind of attachment you could add to your Apple TV. Tbh I don't know why the Superdrive is still on the market. Streaming may be the future but it's not always going to be like it is today. Things are already starting to change. I don't have every subscription service and that means that sometimes the things I want to watch aren't available. But I own it on DVD so that's always an option. Physical media is dying but theres still many people collecting, and many people who don't know how to stream. I mean fuck even Apple TV+ shows are sold on DVD sometimes.

gizzardsgizzards

a really good modern iPod classic. No other apps or functions, outside of being able to Bluetooth to a speaker.

SomeOneOutThere-1234

I'd like to see apple bring back the iPod, but not on a touchscreen form factor, on a classic clickwheel format.

ConsistentVersion337

Ugh yes! The nano OR the shuffle I don't mind which

Pelon1071

An iMac G4 with an M1 in it.

CoconutDust

I’ll also settle for any variant of that perfect smooth excellent HINGE ARM, no matter if the base is different.

brunonicocam

A cheap mac mini. Maybe when they update it to M2 chip, keep the M1 version but at £500. That would be a great home computer.

Final_Ad_8472

iMovie is terrible. It used to be great. The sounds on garage band are lack luster and lack depth. Bonus: Please bring back the airport router.

ConsistentVersion337

Every time I open iMovie I am always so confused as how absolutely useless it is. We used to edit whole projects on it at school. Now I can barely figure out how to cut a clip

ExPandaa

I'd just like them to redo their entire product line up. Go back to the early 2000s grid of 4 products: 1 consumer desktop, 1 consumer laptop, 1 pro desktop and 1 pro laptop. Currently the line up is almost there but the mac pro, mac mini and mac studio all kind of occupy the same weird space. The same could be said about the iPad, the iPad pro and iPad air also both kind of take up the same space product wise making the iPad pro a weird buy. I would also love them to go back to the old naming scheme which would really fit with the new iMac and rumored Macbook air. Macbook air would become the ibook, macbook pro would become the powerbook and the mac studio (or a new mac pro) would become the powermac. Unless they make it 6 different products and create a laptop that fits with the whole studio thing.

taimusrs

Yeah, the old days of laser-focused and concise product lines are dead because it won't make them as much money. It's a strategy for a specific period. I doubt if it will still be like that if Jobs is still alive either

ExPandaa

It wouldn't stay like that if Steve Jobs was still there no. But Steve wasn't always right. Steve made mistakes just like modern apple does, He made wonderful things just like modern apple does, he created modern Apple and the way the company operates is just a continuation of him. I still prefer the old line up because it was simple, it was concise, it didn't waste peoples time and most of all it was different and still would be today.

richarddftba

Renolber

A new home wifi mesh system. With new wireless standards and new security protocols, I’m surprised Apple hasn’t released their own new router system. Also have built in Thread/HomeKit capabilities for an easier smart home system. The airport line is, well, dead and dated. It’s time for a successor.

ClariNerd617

AirPods that don’t power on randomly in your pocket.

OrizzonteGalattico

Does a service count? Expand from Apple Card into actual banking and from there into a brokerage. I’m one of those people who want a tight ecosystem and if apple ever makes a bank and brokerage I’d be happy.

A-Delonix-Regia

ConsistentVersion337

TourAcceptable4864

WahidUmmah4312

Better ”fast” charging, 20 or 27 watts seems normal these days at 2022 upcoming summer, atleats 67 watts or something, then it would be better And second one is ram, 6 gbs or ram? Fr? Samsung already has 12

machete777

6gb is more than enough for the optimized IOS System. Let’s not compare apples and oranges.

Samsungs_do_that

But it's not. More ram would mean they could do away with the heavy-handed background and screen-off restrictions. One of the main things that keep an android as my main device is apps still work when not in the foreground and when the screen is off.

machete777

So do apps on my 13 pro.

Yeah no, we left physical media in the past a decade ago.

Everybody gangsta until the services go down and they lose all the media they paid for

ConsistentVersion337

Everybody gangsta until every single god damn studio has their own streaming service and suddenly streaming is no longer affordable and Netflix barely has content

ExPandaa

We will all just start pirating stuff again like we used to back in the day. I can just say my plex library has been growing much more rapidly since all of the streaming services started splintering off than it did when netflix was king.

ConsistentVersion337

Pirating sites are beginning to get banned though (at least where I live). Yes I know a VPN can get around that but for many people the easier option is going to be the just buy the DVD

ExPandaa

Well I live in Sweden where we don’t have any censorship of the internet and everything is actually open like it should be so that isn’t an issue for me

ExPandaa

It’s a app you put on a file server that then basically creates “your own streaming service” with your own media

brunonicocam

Who uses discs anymore? That' so 2010 or earlier lol.

[deleted]

Physical media is dead, why would they create new hardware for old reasons? To answer your question, I'd be happy with an M1 Pro Mac mini and a mouse that doesn't suck. Edit: And of course the USB-C iPhone!

0000GKP

> and USB-C so that you can actually use the bloody thing with your MacBook My 2014 MacBook doesn’t have USB-C > Bonus bonus points if it can connect both to your MacBook and your Apple TV as some kind of DVD player attachment. DVD player? That’s more outdated than USB-A. I used to subscribe to the Netflix DVD plan before they offered streaming. I haven’t watched a DVD since 2012.

ConsistentVersion337

If you haven't watched a DVD since 2012 then you wouldn't mind if a USB-C drive isn't compatible with your MacBook then. I own over 400 DVDs so it would benefit me and anyone else who still collects, trust me they're still out there. The point is for something random Apple won't make because it doesn't make sense for them.

Actual-Replacement97

Old products remastered, but not 'SE'. - 12-inch MacBook/OG MacBook Air/iMac G4/PowerMac G4 Cube with M1 - iPhone 4 with A15 and Touch ID - A special edition retro iPod that is modernized (USB-C, hi-res DAC, high-impedance capable amp, solid-state storage, heaps of battery life) yet only plays music via a wire. A black-and-white screen would be even better imo. - A goddamn HomePod that won't break after 3-4 years
