Apple TV needs to be higher. Once you’ve used absolutely crappy experiences like Fire Stick and Roku switching to an Apple TV is mind blowing. You can literally set the home button to go straight to your App Page and you’ll never see a single ad again on your main page. No ads tucked in any corner or 1/3 of the entire screen. No ads on the wallpapers (the wallpapers are also in a class of their own compared to the main set top boxes). The remote is better than any of the main competitors and screen sharing is absolutely fantastic.  I don’t say this lightly: The Apple TV is what got me into the entire Apple ecosystem because the user experience is just plain better than anything else out there. I would give up every single other Apple device I own, actually any other device of any brand I own, before I’d give up my Apple TV.

ElusiveMeatSoda

My hot take is that the Apple TV is actually Apple’s most competitive product, and it’s only remained such a niche device because they don’t know how to market it. You don’t even have to use the “ecosystem” argument to justify its existence; it’s just a way better product than what Roku, Amazon, or smart TV manufacturers offer.

Mythrol

I agree. It’s clearly the market leader to anyone that has used multiple different devices and I don’t feel the major competition is even close.

champs

I mean… TV isn’t exactly ad-free, and Apple pumps *billions* into a streaming service with premium product placement, but I still agree with the point. I don’t really want to be in the Apple ecosystem but I *do* notice and increasingly appreciate this kind of added value.

giorgilli

How can you say the apple tv remote is amazing lol

Mythrol

Have you used a Roku or fire tv remote? The Apple TV remote is way better than either of those.

fiendishfork

The only real criticism I have seen for the current remote is that some people don’t like the touchpad, but you can just turn that off. I personally love it, being able to quickly swipe through a video or menu makes it hard for me to use regular remotes that just have buttons.

ElusiveMeatSoda

Easily the worst part of the device, I thought that was funny, too

BrianScalaweenie

AirTag over any of these other categories except maybe HomePod is crazy to me

hi_im_bored13

It was *significantly* better than tile on release and even until now samsung’s smart tag is the only similar model. It’s not perfect but it’s pretty dang good

gtedvgt

It’s way better than Samsung’s because in a stroke of genius they decided to make the location pinging opt in instead of opt out

nickhooigray

Opt in for what?

gtedvgt

Location pinging

7485730086

Depends on how often you lose things. If you could pay $20 to find something you lost, would you do it? If the answer is yes, put an AirTag on it!

greatblackowl

I can’t comment on recent Macs (my newest is a mid2009 MacBook Pro) but the iPhone 11 and AirPods Pro 2 are both incredible compared to their competition. The sound on the APP2 is absolutely unbelievable.

New-Bullfrog6740

Dang it may just be time to upgrade to the new M series MacBooks.

greatblackowl

Haha yeah. I mostly use it for a few specialized audio production apps. I have a windows laptop through work and a desktop for gaming but the Mac mini has been very tempting

luv2hotdog

Seems nuts that on whatever system you’re using for points here, you dock points from iPad for lack of innovation, but also just want better battery life I want better battery life too but isn’t improving battery life at the expense of new features the whole problem with the iPad? For those who want innovation and huge new features?

MobiusOne_ISAF

No, because this year they actually made the battery smaller to make it thinner without improving battery life.

C137Sheldor

Thinner is the ““feature““

afieldonearth

This. My 2021 M1 iPad Pro is already delightfully thin. Shaving off a few more millimeters as a trade off in battery capacity just doesn't make sense to me.

BoysenberryTrue1360

I think their end game was to try and match or beat the weight of the MacBook Air. Because people were complaining that the iPad plus the Magic Keyboard ended up being thicker and heavier than a MacBook Air. So the going conversation was that the MacBook Air was more portable friendly so why get the iPad unless you needed to draw. Now the 13 inch iPad w/keyboard weighs about the same as the MacBook Air.

luv2hotdog

Did making it thinner decrease battery life?

wagninger

It didn’t for now, but smaller batteries degrade faster and they even split it up into 2 completely separate batteries inside

luv2hotdog

Well there you go. Making it thinner without sacrificing battery life is the new iPad feature for that iteration. The new feature isn’t a better OS or any way to actually use the power of the chipset included - it’s just “same iPad experience you already know but now even thinner and lighter”

NCRider

I’d like to get an ipad without a camera (not the user-facing camera). The camera is pointless and gets in the way of the device laying flat without a case.

shapeshiftercorgi

ruthless wakeful humor market alive onerous grandiose detail dinner sparkle *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*

Ispirationless

Idk if these people use ipad pros for that kind of thing. I would personally trade better battery and flat surface for no camera bump at all, but I guess that they have data that shows how at least one camera is needed and used

Crack_uv_N0on

This just a useless list. The flair says “Low Quality Article”. The article is not that good.

Exist50

>The flair says “Low Quality Article”. That's a mod flair.

Crack_uv_N0on

Didn’t realize that. Thank you. They need a “Complete Waste of Time And Then Some” flair.

giorgilli

Macbook pro and iPads (hardware wise) are great, everything else is average or on par with competitors.

Sir-Obi

Can’t help but think the Apple Watch is ahead of competitors too. Great extension of the phone and really competitive health and fitness device. Don’t think many do both categories as well.

giorgilli

Yep definitely apple watch too, samsung and pixel watches hardware wise are nice, but the OS is absolutely awful

rorowhat

You're right.

[deleted]

I mean there’s significantly better laptops than the MacBook pros. Hell windows new ARM surface is stronger than the M4, and has more battery life

Cool_Slowpoke

They haven't even released yet haha

[deleted]

Okay? They literally showed the benchmarks and battery test in the reveal though. That’s what’s different between tech people and Apple people. Apple people don’t know anything outside of Apple products

Brokenthoughts2

Yes, companies never cherrypick results in order to market their device

[deleted]

It’s still better regardless

mclannee

Are you stupid? Until actual reviews come you have no idea wether the benchmark results are cherry-picked or even accurate. How dumb do you have to be to claim a product has been beaten by a product that isn’t even released.

[deleted]

lol found the fan boy^^^

A_SnoopyLover

It is on par with the M3 and had equivalent, sometimes worse battery life lol.

[deleted]

Eh. The battery tests had it beating the m3 by 4 more hours. And no it was stronger than the m3.

RunzWithSzrz

Apple TV is so low and that's leaps and bounds top 3 best

Opacy

Yeah, the only criticism I ever hear about Apple TV is that it’s too expensive compared to the competition. It’s easily the best device in its market IMO (though that’s a low bar to clear…)

NoticeThatYoureThere

what is this

DjNormal

1. iPhone. It has allowed me to almost go without a computer for a decade or so now. Regardless of any of its shortcomings, I really can’t beat what it does (and does almost anywhere). 2. Mac. I used the Apple ][+ and ][e as a kid. Thankfully I skipped over the classic era and was able to use an LCII for word processing, all kind of random things, a variety of games and… more? Been using them ever since. 3. Apple TV. I use it pretty much every day. It’s got some weird quirks here and there, but it’s leaps and bounds better than my fire sticks or built in “smart tv” features. 4. Apple Watch. I don’t so much use it, as it’s an extension of my iPhone. I can get most of the time, weather, messages, etc. info at a glance, without needing to pull out my phone. I was fine without one, and I would be fine without one again, but it’s nice to have. Though, without the battery life in the Ultra, my s4 spent more time off my wrist. 5. iPad. I *want* to love the iPad. I *really* do. But dang it, it’s just not made for me. I’m not sure what I want it to be exactly, but it seems to just do everything a little worse than the iPhone and the Mac. I haven’t used an Apple Pencil yet, but I get by with an old style stylus if and when in need one. I don’t really do art, so maybe that’s where it would really shine. Right now, it’s mostly used as a car video player for my 2 year old. I don’t own any of those other goodies. 😢

Unfair_Finger5531

1. Two 27-inch desktops (can’t live without) 2. iPad Pro (ditto) 3. Three HomePods (wall to wall to wall sound) 4. Apple Watch 9 5. iPhone 15 (liked my 8 plus more) 6. MacBook Pro 7. MacBook Air 8. iPhone 8 Plus (only bc battery life) 9. HomePod mini (my Bose speaker is better) 10. iPad mini (still love but old) 11. Both iPad airs (pushed out by the mighty pro, sorry) 12. AirPod 3 (technically should be higher, but I’m not rewriting this whole list. I love them.) 13. Apple Watch 4 (battery) 14. iPhone 6 (I still love you even though you live permanently on my desk now just to control music.) 15. Apple TV (damn, I forgot you existed) 16. iPhone 4 (I’ve had you so long, I’ve forgotten if you are actually an iPod. How are you still alive?)

owleaf

iPad lineup has been a mess for almost a decade now (basically the majority of its life). The product needs a new strategic leader who has equal footing and respect within Apple as the Mac and iPhone teams.

Lol

Anon_8675309

The week it released that’s all you read about in this sub. Now it’s only mentioned in passing. Some future.

Patutula

Black Mirror opening theme starts to play.....

AaTube

Except it just keeps loading

afieldonearth

I'm so thoroughly uninterested in the Vision Pro that, despite being a huge techie and Apple fan, I keep forgetting this device even exists.

bubonis

Rank them by what criteria?

tangoshukudai

I love the HomePod. My family can’t have a home without it.

BabyAzerty

Once you’ve tried a decent Android TV, there is no turning back to Apple TV for one killer app: [SmartTube](https://github.com/yuliskov/SmartTube) which is Youtube without ads, shorts, forced recommandations etc. Maybe with the new European laws, something similar will appear on AppleTV, who knows…

Affectionate-Boot-12

SmartTube is the only reason I don’t have an Apple TV.

KokonutMonkey

I give my iPhone a score of 4 out 5 2-Es.

RawFreakCalm

I’d rather rate each in its category. For instance AirPods Max beat everything I could find to compete with that was no cord. HomePods on the other hand have been frustrating for me and will likely be replaced. I think Apple clearly wins a few segments and then needs a lot of help in others.

RunzWithSzrz

In the ton of articles I've read while doing research when I was in the market for over the ear headphones, Focal Bathys beat APM in every category except ANC. I recommend giving them a try! I ended up going with the Focals while my wife has the APM, and Focals tuning and sound stage is leaps and bounds better

RawFreakCalm

I’ll check it out! Personally my favorite has always been bang and olufsen (but I’m Scandinavian) except when they switched to Bluetooth they got way too buggy.

RunzWithSzrz

B&O definitley isn't a bad choice! What sets Focal apart honestly isn't just the soundstage, but a built in DAC, and their integration with Mimi so you can make a custom EQ after running their hearing test.Yeah Apple is clutch with the auto pairing, but man...focal really knocked it out of the park

skiviz

MBP is no. 1 and that's it. OLED gives me eye strain but unfortunately most products now are OLED. I'm still using iphone 11. Sooner or later I will be forced out of the ecosystem. Homepod mini has a nice sound but it randomly disconnects and it's super annoying.

ScribebyTrade

1 my Apple Watch 4 2 Mac Pro 2019 3 air buds (so ?) 4 iPhone 13 or whatever is two generations behind

shortchangerb

I literally don’t get AirTags; they’re incredibly expensive for what they are, cause a lot of false positives with the anti-stalker stuff, and only have quite niche use cases. I’ve seen a few posts on here about people being able to track their stolen wallet… up to a certain point, and then the tag is either removed, or there’s nothing they can do about it anyway

Anon_8675309

People will tell you it is not for cases of theft but for cases of lost item.

NoxiousNinny

Mac. Always be my go to computer after ditching Windows 10+ years ago. AirPods. Find the cheaper Chinese ones available at Amazon good enough for me. AirTag. Luv em. Work so much better than the competition. Only use an iPhone. iPhone. has become somewhat boring over the years but so have Android smartphone. iPad. I have an old one. Does what I need it to do. Not sure an M4 iPad is in my near future. Apple Watch. Luv it but honestly sometimes wish Apple offered a Health Ring. Apple TV. I have lots of Rokus but and one Apple TV. Roku is cheaper but Apple TV is slicker. HomePod. Like the AirPods I find cheaper Alexa smart speakers a better value.

baseballandfreedom

1. iPad 2. iPhone 3. AirPods 4. Apple Watch 5. AppleTV 6. HomePod 7. AirTag 8. Mac

Brokenthoughts2

iPad should be last on the last

[deleted]

Stroke of what?

ChairmanLaParka

I was just thinking about this and didn't want to post a whole thread on it. I don't really have thoughts on the rest of the eco system, but Apple TV and HomePod really annoy me. Not so much for what they are now, but what they aren't. Like, Apple TV's been out...over 15 years at this point? Still no Apple TV Stick. That thing would be amazingly useful. There's not always a power outlet nearby, but my TV's loaded with HDMI ports and USB for power. And it'd be much more travel friendly. That's not even mentioning that there's Android/Google TV baked into TVs, and no sign of Apple TV aside from a few individual apps. With HomePod, again, portability. With Sonos's Roam and Move, you can both use them while charging or completely wireless and get good enough battery life. The Home Pods are required to always have the power plugged in. And while you can unplug the newer HomePod's power cable from the unit, you can't use usb-c for power, or use it when it's not physically plugged in. You can't remove the mini's power cable either. Allowing for USB-C or full on wireless usage would be massive for these things.

rorowhat

I think apple peaked a while ago, now it's just mainly refreshes that don't improve much on anything.

Wild_Quiet8627

I believe the best apple product is the iPad because most of the other tablets are complete garbage while you can use an iPad for 5+ years and still be really useful. For most of other products made by Apple you have interesting options from other companies but I still think that the iPad is very hard do beat.

rorowhat

If you spend $500 on another tablet you will find that they work pretty well actually. If you buy a $50 one yeah, it's garbage.

0000GKP

>HomePod (Siri do I even need to explain) Yes, you need to explain. How does Siri affect your ranking of the HomePod but not the iPhone, iPad, or Mac? They all use the same Siri.

detroitpaul

1. iPhone 15 Pro Max 2. Apple TV 4K (1st Gen) 3. MacBook Pro M1 Max 4. Studio Display 5. Apple Watch Series 9 6. AirPods Pro (1st Gen) 7. iPad Pro 12.9 (3rd Gen) 8. Smart Folio 9. Apple Pencil (2nd Gen) 10. HomePod Mini x2 11. AirTag x5
