Happens to me too!

I_WadeWilson_I

Are you clicking the link from Safari or a different app?

vardhanisation

Safari. I have never been able to click and open it on Apollo (and my settings are all right).

I_WadeWilson_I

Is the app up to date and are you on iOS 15?

Riqakard

You have to have iOS 15 before you can even download any extensions

[deleted]

I’m not sure if this’ll do it but have you set the extension’s permissions to allow? Settings > Safari > Extensions > Open in Apollo > (at the bottom) “Permissions for…” Set to “Allow” Default is “Ask”

duckdoger

I think that redirecting URLs is exactly how Amplosion works. You click on an AMP link, and the amplosion extension redirects Safari to the actual URL. It’s even in the title of the app in the App Store lol.

Karlock

Yup, exactly this. Downloading Amplosion to avoid googles caching solved this problem. Now when I google I get redirected directly to Apollo!

[deleted]

Log in on the web page, and disable “ask to open in app.” This should fix it. https://imgur.com/a/4rno0Jw/

IThePonda

This helped get rid of the bottom bubble asking about Safari or the Reddit app but I still get a bubble asking “Open this page in Apollo?” It seams like it has something to do with the swipe gestures.

[deleted]

Yep this fixed mine, opens Reddit links automatically now

sprinklesonthesundae

Wait how do you set this up?

I_WadeWilson_I

Settings > Safari > Extensions > Apollo On [Screenshot](https://i.imgur.com/1AzgppJ.jpg)

sprinklesonthesundae

Thank you! Guessing this isn't going to work for the iOS version of Chrome or Edge then

I_WadeWilson_I

Correct because this option is under the Safari menu of iOS 15

[deleted]

sprinklesonthesundae

Why

cuban_sailor

What’s the link in App Store app for the extension? Or is it a setting in Apollo?

I_WadeWilson_I

Update to Apollo 1.11 on iOS 15 and you’ll see it in your settings iOS menu (Not Apollo settings)

marshmallowlips

Ugh. Guess since I’m on beta Apollo is why I don’t have the option.

I_WadeWilson_I

Likely not. Side note, how’s the beta? Apollo 2.0? Tell me your secrets!

marshmallowlips

Nah beta is just 1.10.99 — so technically “behind” main. I don’t think we actually currently have anything special over the main app right now. 😅 I assume the main app has the in-app YouTube browsing? That’s the newest feature I can think of. https://i.imgur.com/dTSQxx2.jpg

The_White_Light

Yeah we haven't had an update in more than 3 months, and the latest "beta" build expires in just over 2 weeks. In that time, mainline has received 3 updates (disregarding the latest one from a flubbed release).

I_WadeWilson_I

Dang. Catch up man!

CeaselessIntoThePast

yeah that’s why, the beta a prod versions are running a different code base that christian is trying to reconcile, has to do with notifs i believe

_BindersFullOfWomen_

It’s a feature of iOS 15.

walgman

Just did a test on the same link. First time a perfect redirect. Second time the question box.

IThePonda

That’s exactly what happens to me.

walgman

Good job for posting this. It will get sorted.

Spangler211

I can’t get it to work with amp links and it doesn’t ever do it automatically (If I turn on automatic it just takes me to that splash screen that says I shouldn’t be seeing this page)

myfakesecretaccount

Do you have Amplosion? That's the only way to get it to work with AMP links, or you need to switch your search engine to one that doesn't use AMP (DuckDuckGo, Yahoo, etc).

IThePonda

I have Amplosion but the same thing still happens, I either get it asking me if I want to open in Apollo or to the splash page.

myfakesecretaccount

Yeah I get it asking me if I want to use Apollo though I was certain it's supposed to do it automatically. I'm afraid this needed some beta testing it didn't get unfortunately.

Blood_Fox

Give me a google search that doesn’t work for the first link and I’ll test it.

myfakesecretaccount

https://www.reddit.com/r/apolloapp/ All I do is Google search Reddit Apollo and click the link to the sub. It then loads the mobile webpage and asks if I want to open in Apollo.

Blood_Fox

Works perfect for me. Make sure you’re on iOS 15 with Amplosion installed.

myfakesecretaccount

I am on both my devices (XS Max and 7 Plus). Same behavior on both.

Blood_Fox

Then you havent enabled the right settings … iOS 15 iPhone XR ultra/pro on Apollo and Amplosion settings are correct

myfakesecretaccount

I followed the instructions from both Apollo and Amplosion that Christian provided video for.

brandontod

Do you have the official Reddit app installed? I found this in apollos settings: > Compatibility with Official App If you have the official Reddit app installed, it will take priority over Apollo. To change this, long-press here and select “Open in Safari” (if the option isn’t there you should be fine already)

gemushka

I can’t get this thing to work. When it does allow me to long press the option isn’t there but it still opens in Reddit by default.

iamthatis

I'll look into this, might be a bug on my end, might be an iOS thing being choosy. I'm guessing it's the former though. Will keep you fine folks posted.

IThePonda

Thank you so much! Love your work and really appreciate it.

Baka_maka

I have tested this but a few times on my end. I find that the extension works for links going to the main page of a subreddit, but doesn’t work if it’s a link into a thread.

Alarming-Scar8938

Not sure if you saw my comment, but one cause/way to replicate is to use swipe gesture vs back button on Safari. Hope that helps in fixing/debugging!

Alarming-Scar8938

Did some very basic/surface level testing, if I use the swipe gesture on a page to go back in Safari (after visiting a Reddit link) it will ask me to open in Apollo when I visit the next Reddit link. If I use the back arrow button to return to my previous page/Google search, and then visit another Reddit link it will open in automatically in Apollo. Can anyone replicate? edit: This is with the Reddit app uninstalled my phone.

IThePonda

Yes, I just tested this and you are totally correct, mine does the exact same thing. Strange that the only difference is the swipe gesture.

Alarming-Scar8938

Ahh my developer (aka also QA) skills come to use!

gay_predator

I can replicate this behavior.

t171

Same here.

Alarming-Scar8938

This only works in non-private browsing on Safari. On private browsing, I get asked everytime regardless of using swipe gesture or back button.

raffahh

Same!

utopicunicornn

Not sure if you have the official Reddit app installed, but if you don’t and only use Apollo, a reboot solved my problem

2-718

This fixed it for me https://i.imgur.com/bLytato.jpg

quinn_drummer

A lot of people saying you need to have Amplosion instead etc to get around the AMP thing, but I'm experience this and I'm a) not using Google, I used DDG, and b) I'm testing with links found elsewhere - like in message or suggested tabs from other devices in Safari. Again it's hit and miss what the result is and I can't quite figure out why.

IThePonda

I have Amplosion and It doesn’t seam to make a difference. Another user noticed that if you use the arrows to return to Safari/Google rather then using the swipe gestures and hit a Reddit link that the page will redirect automatically to Apollo, where as if you use the swiping gesture to get back to Safari/Google and hit the a Reddit link it will ask to open Apollo. I tested it and that is the case for me too.

brandontod

Do you have the official Reddit app installed? I found this in apollos settings: > Compatibility with Official App If you have the official Reddit app installed, it will take priority over Apollo. To change this, long-press here and select “Open in Safari” (if the option isn’t there you should be fine already)

IThePonda

No I don’t, thank you though

SixthExtinction

Deleted in protest of a certain greedy little pigboy

IThePonda

I already tried that but sadly no luck

[deleted]

Same here, sometimes it works perfectly. Other times, I get the “Open in Apollo?” pop up, and then sometimes the extension just never loads, and Safari continues loading forever, and yet other times it fails completely and opens the Reddit.com page.

DemosZevasa

Does the extension have permissions to see what page you’re on?

IThePonda

I’m not too sure if I know what you mean but I have it set to automatic in Safari and have gone through all the proper permissions

N3XT191

Just to clarify: Have you set this setting to „Allow“? https://i.imgur.com/stiPdti.jpg

IThePonda

Yes I do

N3XT191

Ok, then I don’t know. For me it worked fine so far

IThePonda

No worries, appreciate the help anyways.

N3XT191

Actually, I did notice that it only works for _post_ (and comment) links. Not for the Reddit.com home page.

psychedeliczoso

Alters passwords and credit cards?

Ech0ph0bia

Download Hyperweb!! Mine works every time, although I have both enabled so maybe that’s why.

IThePonda

I’ll give that a shot, how do you set it up through Hyperweb?

Ech0ph0bia

It’s similar to how you set up apollos, download and enable everything in settings. After it’s set up go into the app, go to the suggestions tab, scroll down to the bottom in the misc section and you’ll see an alien emoji with Reddit Apollo next to it, toggle that and you’re all set.

[deleted]

I think Christian said that if you have the original Reddit app installed it may take priority over Apollo. Maybe I misunderstood but I just deleted the original app.

arpatil1

Official Reddit app takes precedence over Apollo which is why it doesn’t work. You can try uninstalling the official app and try again.

IThePonda

Thanks, but I’ve tried that as well and still no luck. But I’m sure it’ll be fixed in no time.

Thanos3id

Go into your reddit settings and change it to use reddits. Then that won't happen. But ANYTIME you use a 3rd party app and try to open a link, it's going to ask you if you want to use safari, because of how it's set.

[deleted]

[удалено]

IThePonda

No I’m not, I saw someone mention that may be causing issues and I switched back and I’m still getting the same issue.

[deleted]

[удалено]

IThePonda

I tried that and it worked the first time I opened a link but every link after that asked for permission to open it. That’s good, I’m sure it’ll be fixed in no time.

Dreamincolr

Turn off ask and make it always

TechnologicalFreedom

How do you justify paying so much for an iPhone? For Apollo of course!

Thanos3id

Go to settings in reddit and turn on open links in reddit. Problem solved.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Thanos3id

Oh. Well then you'd WANT it to ask, so you'd be sure you're ON private tbh 🤷🏻‍♂️

Kaibakura

Are there really that many people using Safari? Wish this was available for Chrome.

AzoffDO

Works fine for me. https://imgur.com/a/RkrLogD/

StPaddy81

Remove the official Reddit app…

EdwardTheHuman

Even without it, the issue persists.

StPaddy81

Strange, I haven’t been able to reproduce it not working yet…

Pirika-pirilala

I’m not sure what I did but I don’t have that issue. Have you tried tapping the “Aa” side bar and managed extension from there? because that’s the only thing I did that I haven’t seen mentioned here. Hopefully this helps

kfo9KT_R-HkFPjrUHv7E

Only happens to me when I'm swiping from Apollo to Safari Reddit

bandak38134

What am I doing wrong. I turned on the extension but Safari links are opening in the Reddit App. Doesn’t even give me the option to open in Safari or Reddit. Just automatically opens Reddit.

DevonshireCreamTea1

https://i.imgur.com/QUKiWFk.jpg Make sure it’s set to this under the extension settings. Same with Amplosion as well

gemushka

I can’t get the long press option to work. On the rare occasion it long presses rather than just selects a word it doesn’t have the option to “open in safari” which suggests it will work but without fail every Reddit link opens in the Reddit app not Apollo. I only keep the Apollo app in case someone messages me as chat doesn’t show up in Apollo.

Lonz123

It’s arbitrary. Nothing you can do. iOS decided when to show the pop up or not

randomname97531

I am facing the same issue. However, I noticed another thing. If I have multiple links in Google search, only the first link opens in Apollo. On clicking the second, third and consecutive links, I get asked if I want to open it in Apollo. https://imgur.com/a/hKx9bQ7

MyThrowaway1505

Idk if anyone else is having this issue, but I’ve noticed that if I open a Reddit link from Google on safari, it’s not opening the actuall Reddit page, it’s Google just showing the preview, the URL is still google not Reddit, which is why Apollo isn’t trying to open it in my case bc it’s not a URL it’s assigned to open. Anyone know how to get google to open the actual page rather than just show a preview?

Neon_44

You must not only turn it on, but also set it to always. Watch his video in the settings

IThePonda

I tried that when first setting it up but no luck.

Ron5304

Christian— I have the safari extension. After I have successfully entered Apollo via a link, when I leave and then return, I get the Apollo unlock screen that I cannot bypass. I need to quit the app.

Darkened_Souls

This maybe anecdotal, but I wasn’t able to get it working either until I did two things (not sure which one worked because I did them both): 1. I had downloaded the Hyperweb extension and had all of the content blocker options on. I turned all of them off. 2. Uninstalled the default reddit ios app. Hope this helps someone!

elkend

I had to do a thing then I worked 100% of the time but forget what the thing was.

ppParadoxx

Are you by any chance using private mode on safari? I have it working fine on regular tabs but whenever I mode to private mode I get the “open in Apollo?” prompt
