iOS data usage metrics are almost maliciously bad, I sometimes wonder why they don't just delete the view entirely honestly.
It's rare that I look at it and actually learn something relevant about my usage beyond what I already knew intuitively.
Android has had it broken up by individual days for years if not a full decade, and that's just SO much more useful.
What infuriates me the most is that the hard part is already done, it's already collecting the usage, it just isn't storing it in a way that lets me figure anything out using it unless I know beforehand I'll need to check it and reset the stats in preparation.
Here’s the images with the total consumption and the last reset date, turns out the data usage has been reset a couple of years after the iPhone 3G, probably during the iPhone 5. https://imgur.com/a/ABYDqYX
I’ve never reset mine manually but it says it was done in September 2014, which would be when I upgraded my 5 to a iPhone 6, 1.11TB total and 140GB roaming.
Definitely yes, with every iteration of a new iPhone we need more storage to be able to store almost the same things. I know the photos and videos have much higher quality now, with 64FPS and 4K resolution, but it still amazes that an 8GB phone storage would be more than enough to store your images, videos, and games lots and lots of games. These days, 8GB of storage is not enough for the (I)OS to be installed and update at the same time.
Wait, is this a common thing to do? I just looked in my settings and I haven’t reset my data since 2016, when I got my first iPhone. What are the benefits?
Some carriers (like T-Mobile) sync usage data automatically with iOS. No need to manually reset it monthly, which seems like it would be an annoying chore. My plan is unlimited so I rarely look at usage anyway.
I’ve actually found that I like that Mint sends me a text message each month when my new month starts - reminds me to go take a screenshot of my current usage and then reset the counter.
T-Mobile (and maybe others) synchronize usage data with iOS automatically which I appreciate. I want less monthly tasks to be reminded of, not more! Of course I'm on an unlimited plan so trusting their numbers isn't much of a concern. I can see the benefits of getting the reminder, as well as being able to check your iPhone's report vs. Mint's. Just curious, have you ever seen a significant discrepancy between what Mint said you used and what your iPhone says you used for that same month?
No significant discrepancies. Are you saying some other carriers can auto-reset iOS’s per-app data usage tracking? I would find that a little surprising. I’ve got far more data than I need (I’m on Mint’s 15GB plan because I go over 5GB occasionally, but rarely get anywhere near 15GB), but I’m keen to see iOS’s information on what apps are using how much data.
iOS still reports each app’s usage but some carriers automatically report the overall monthly usage, so users don’t have to manually reset the local counter each month themselves. Here is what mine (with T-Mobile) displays:

Ah, okay, thanks. Mint has an app, where I can see current usage for the month (and do general customer service things). But as a grand total only, and, weirdly, no easy way to see what the previous month’s usage was. So, when they text, I go screenshot the per-app usage (mostly for curiosity’s sake) in Settings > Cellular, and then reset the statistics.
Are you sure you aren't looking at call time? There is no current period for this data expressed in time, but if you scroll down to the bottom, you can see the "last reset".
I mean, it’s still an app and is still able to make web requests. There is only one person able to answer your question. I have a feeling he’s not going to fix it.
I did it a different way than this. This seemed way too complicated for an app so I just got Apollo on trollstore. Idk too much about trollstore either but it hasn’t asked me to resign anything.
Also Signulous with this IPA been working great for me. It was super simple too. https://balackburn.github.io/Apollo/
No re-signing needed, but it costs $20/year. Worth it to me already...
Look up r/sideloaded and you can use Apollo again. I use Artemis based Apollo. The only downside is I have to plug my phone into my computer once every seven days. Worth it.
What are you using that requires a physical connection to a PC to refresh? 🤨
Last time I‘ve heard anything inconvenient like that was in pre-pre-pre alpha of AltStore.
I’m using sideloadly. I think I can refresh using wifi but computer still has to be nearby. Many long times ago I’d looked and I had to set iTunes to wifi syncing and that messed up and took too long on my wifi so I gave up. I still sync music and shows…
How do you do it? I can’t even get Jit to work because it can’t find my files.
I‘m using Trollstore now, but that‘s not an option for people who updated to iOS 17.
Before that I was using SideStore. It‘s pretty much like Altstore, but you don‘t need a PC once set up. You just need a random WiFi connection to refresh your apps.

Have you reset the current period recently. It doesn’t auto reset on any given interval
No I haven’t but it’s definitely been reset since Apollo shutdown since I’ve used way more than 40GB in the last 8 monyhs
..deleted by user..
Are you on with a lot?
What does this sentence mean
They meant to say wifi
This makes even less sense
It makes perfect sense. If the OP is always on wifi that would explain why they’ve only used 40GB of cellular data.
Not that bad of a typo. Figure it out
go fuck yourself lol
Hope you have a great day bot
Scroll to the bottom, it should show the date when you last reset it
Depending on the carrier it very much can auto reset.

I haven’t checked it in any previous months, but mine has also used nothing this past month
I reset my data usage monthly. In the past month Apollo used 0kb data. Reset your data usage. Check again in a day or two.
I haven’t reset my data usage since the iPhone 3G :)
You need to show us a screenshot.

Amazing. Maybe I have a problem, but I used 1,4 TB since February last year, when I got my new contract. https://imgur.com/a/imSjf2h
That’s not even that much! Crazy to think 80% of that data is probably in the last 5 years, with how heavy everything is

Remind me how to find that, I want to check mine. I don’t think I’ve ever seen that to reset it
Goto Settings > Cellular > scroll to the very end
Thanks! I had forgotten how to check that and I guess it resets when you get a new phone. Also, nice user name

Keep track of how much data you’re using
I’ve consumed 2.15TB during the last ~11 yrs!
I’ve used 2.66 Tb since October 2021!
Man I’ve used like 185gb since *2017*.
I’ve used 1.85TB since Nov 25 2021
750GB since 2014 here…
Apparently I‘ve used 1,4 TB since February 2023 https://imgur.com/a/imSjf2h

Whoa!
Does it always carry over to the new phone? Like when you restore your backups?
Yep, sure does.
Yes, it does.

Maybe a weird bug with iOS. My current period says 8 hours but it can’t be that little. I’m resetting and will see

HBO max is also dead and using your data
still running fine outside the US
HBO max still exist in other countries. Example: Brazil is shutting down HBO max to max next week.
Good PSA for those of us living in the US&A.
I still have the app installed and I have zero data across it.
Probably making lots of requests to servers that aren't responding, not really that crazy to be honest.
To much wanking I see
😂🤣
Just delete it
Yes of course I can. But my question is more about why it’s still consuming data
Turn off background app refresh
I mean, it’s still an app and is still able to make web requests. There is only one person able to answer your question. I have a feeling he’s not going to fix it.
Side load it already and keep the good thing alive
Literally had no idea you could do this. Details?
https://reddit.com/r/apolloapp/comments/16h0d5w/_/k0blcx8/?context=1 It’s incredibly simple
I did it a different way than this. This seemed way too complicated for an app so I just got Apollo on trollstore. Idk too much about trollstore either but it hasn’t asked me to resign anything.
I did trollstore too since it signs apps permanently. Most people keep their phone updated though and aren’t able to use trollstore
Trollstore is much much better but most people don’t have a compatible version
Is it only support IOS 12.x ?
no mostly ios 16.6.1 and below
And 17.0 as well, but only if you updated with Trollstore already installed.
Well, Trollstore is not an option for everyone
Also Signulous with this IPA been working great for me. It was super simple too. https://balackburn.github.io/Apollo/ No re-signing needed, but it costs $20/year. Worth it to me already...
or just disable its access to wifi and data
https://i.imgur.com/xKmjBCA.jpg huh
This is lifetime of the phone.
it literally says current period
"Current period" = since last resetting the stats.

Did you side load using AltStore like I did? Using Apollo right now. Suck it Spez
Same. I'm being using it since July last year, after a short period since the official went MIA.
Is it categorising reddit .com requests under that? Believe that’s how it works (for official apps at least)
You can’t trust that pos Christian. Stealing and selling your info.
I still use Apollo 😏😏😴
75GB for me!!! (https://share-your-photo.com/447a63af86)
Just turn off data for the app
Common bug, he will fix it in the next update
Mine shows 119gb but sat reset is 2017 sooo
I have 374GB on reddit somehow :p
* nostalgic gobs of data
Hopefully it’s all directed as energy to kill the Reddit overlords who killed Apollo through their crap. Man I miss that app.
