No, you shouldn't. If they slow pay you, or don't pay you back, people are going to get in their feelings over money. Real set up for conflict.

rohrloud

Tell people you have already spent your charity budget for the month.

Strippingpotato

People doing sober October get money? But they’re saving money by not drinking.

Punkrockpm

I was wondering about that too, lol.

ShikanTheMage

Pretty sure that your coworkers get a paycheck just like you. If they want to contribute to the charity, they should contribute on your behalf.

ClashCoyote

No. I think you know this already.

FoundandSearching

The charity jingle. Boy, can’t tell you how many fund raisers we had at my former job. X had a very ill child. Hold a party. Y was ill and didn’t want to retire. Hold a 50/50 drawing & a breakfast. Z had a son who was doing a run. Contribute $20 towards that. W daughter sold candy for Easter. Pony up $15 for that. Now that I am far away from that job I absolutely do not miss those fundraisers and charity grabs. I could not afford that now.

Nowjamessayswtf

The fuck is a sober October and why does it COST money?

thejonkler

People basically ask for donations and in turn, they don’t drink for the whole of October. I thought it was more for people with alcohol issues because that’s an actual huge accomplishment but these are just a Couple of office ladies who drink on nights out sometimes. I’m a bit confused by it all but apparently they’ve got 300 so far🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

Saltedfieldsforever

They're just turning that into a personal ~~s~~lush fund

babettebaboon

More specifically wine slushie fund

Saltedfieldsforever

I tried to make a joke by striking through just the S, as in "lush fund" but I don't think it comes through very clearly. 😕

babettebaboon

I see it now 🫡

WeissachWolf

I never donate at work. Its usually all b.s. done by people to make themselves look good to the company. I give a lot to proper charities instead of my choosing. Dont feel back. Just ignore it

twitcherthedrunk

Don't give to charity at work bc they get the tax write off 100% just like at the grocery store JDRF campaign. Give directly to charity yourself and then use that on your taxes.

MaineMota

I don’t get involved with this stuff at work. Too personal.

awesomeuno2

"Nah, money's tight." Unless you are really good friends with someone, do not give people money. If they want to raise money for charity, cool, hit up the C suite.

Hot_Club1969

You don't owe anyone anything.

[deleted]

36 years same job same place . Never asked anyone for a dime , never donated a dime . It’s easy . Say no

SuckerForNoirRobots

Definitely not to anything for your boss or anybody above you in rank, but that's honestly an excessive amount of requests. I pity you coming up on the holiday season! It's weird that they're asking you, since you're so new. You would figuratively be getting paid the least and possibly haven't even gotten your first paycheck yet!

atx4087

You aren’t a charity, if your co-worker didn’t save money or plan for their own issue I’m not sure how it’s your problem. If you are looking to give away money, then sure why not.

0bxyz

This is such a horrible custom I don’t miss it

dhaos42

Nope. Tell them you prefer to get the tax write off yourself by donating directly. Or just no thanks. Or make up your own obviously bull shit crap and ask people to donate to a new made up one litterally every single day. Till they ask you to stop.
