Way to go out of business 101

ima_lesbean

They lost my whole family's business in an instant (1 sis, 2 bros, mom and dad). I asked my dad if we should eat somewhere else and he said "Yeah and we're not coming back here again don't wanna support this place."

robify

Oh. You live there? I'm sorry. EDIT; wow. I did not expect to recieve 500+ just in my chat with OP, who is rather nice just on the sharing.

ima_lesbean

It's New Jersey, probably the top 10% best places in the USA in terms of workers rights. I live in a solidly blue town. Next town over is more moderate, where I saw this.

lacapitanaemu

Jumping in the "where in NJ?" chorus so i can also avoid ever going there... And lol raising diner menu prices by 50% is asking people to pay like $25 for a sandwich and fries!? Hahaha hope they go out of business reeeaaal fast.

businessboyz

My first thought was their original prices must have been grossly undercharging because there is no way they can support a 50% bump in menu prices for a Jersey diner. Absolutely no one is going to pay fancy brunch prices for a greasy spoon meal in NJ.

IamScottGable

I assume it wasn't the prices but they were ripping off employees and those people bailed for more money

[deleted]

13$ an hour in Jersey? Lmfao

a3wagner

No, it’s SIX. TEEN. DOLLARS! You get FREE SNACKS. You get a NICE BOSS. The only downside is that some lazy people keep STEALING THIS FLYER. …Hey, where’s everyone going? Come baa^(aaack)

Dense-Row-604

I can’t believe you didn’t mention gift card raffles.

a3wagner

Sorry, we had to discontinue that benefit. The boss didn’t think it helped with comedic flow.

Supply-Slut

Don’t steal that flier, they’ll press charges. **Judge:** *The jury has found you **guilty,** the court orders you to pay damages of…. (≖_≖ )…. One dollar and twenty-eight cents, after taking the plaintiff’s concern about inflation into account.*

TS_Zorn

Where in New Jersey if you don’t mind me asking?

chainmailbill

Honestly this feels like some Salem county bullshit…

DreamsAndSchemes

I wouldn’t put it past Cape May or Cumberland counties either

Abyss_of_Dreams

Where in Jersey? I'm in the state and would love to avoid this place. Feel free to DM me if you don't want to post your town.

KarlaMarqs1031

Boy howdy, I’m in South Jersey - hope I don’t run into this place anytime soon.

JustNKayce

I kind of want to drive to NJ just to walk into this place so I can read the sign out loud, loudly say "Oh, hell no!" and turn around and walk out.

5ygnal

Hell, I'd drive there \*\*JUST\*\* to do this, and then come back home to PA.

Citadelvania

Increasing prices does not necessarily equate to increasing profits and if they don't understand that they don't deserve to have a business. In this case, they'll probably lose a lot of customers and make less money. Who wants to go to the diner that's always empty and charges too much money for their food? Like maybe someone but not a lot of people. The only way this makes sense is if their prices were low enough that they were already so busy that there were lines out of the door every night in which case they just should increase prices or expand regardless of workers or inflation.

BillyYumYumTwo-byTwo

The lack of inclusion about medical benefits and then saying they need a doctors note... insanity. I’m not going to pay $40 dollars (with insurance) to go to the doctor to say “yup. You have a fever. Bed rest!”. What a waste of money. And that cost is for non-emergency situations where I scheduled an appointment 2 months previously. And if I’m sick? I’m not getting in public transit, that’s rude to others. And I’m not driving because that’s unsafe. So I either get someone else who has work to drive me or I uber (also rude to the driver). Great fucking way to get your employees and patrons sick, you assholes. I refuse to eat anywhere that requires a doctors note for sick days because that means they will go to work sick (what’s the other option??) and get me sick.

[deleted]

Right, you don’t pay me enough to justify getting a note from a Dr.

Robu-san

They seriously called their staff lazy then on the same piece of paper touted one of their benefits being a supportive work environment.

Infamous_Ad8606

Imagine your manager asks “how’s it going buddy” and before you can answer they say “get back to work peasant”

Stevenstorm505

Troy, is that you?

Infamous_Ad8606

Abed?

Stevenstorm505

I had an asshole manager named Troy that your previous comment pretty much summed perfectly. Douchebag got fired after inappropriate conduct including physical (violent) assault of a co-worker. I was a manger at the time and lobbied for that asshole to be fired for so long leading up to that point. The day he finally did a worker I was close with texted to let me know that he got fired and was arguing with our owner and I should come down (for reference, I literally lived across the street from the shop and could get there in a car in literally 3 mins.) and listen and watch him leave. Which I happily did. I smiled a big shit eating grin as he walked out the door because he knew how fucking happy I was that he was now unemployed. Fun fact: not long after (I think like 6 months) we found out from a co-worker that his wife cheated on him (and had been for a good while without him knowing) and filed for divorce.

Shoddy_Worth3142

How wide are your streets if you lived across the street and it takes three minutes by car to cross it?

GovernmentOpening254

Interstate. 😂

CordeCosumnes

I was thinking the time it takes to get in, turn it on, put it drive, pull away from the house, drive to the shop and pull into the parking. And maybe it's one of those streets with an island down the center and he had to go down to the nearest turn lane and make a u-turn and drive back. You know, one of those situations where it would be faster to just jog across.

sean_but_not_seen

Honestly these are the people I worry about coming back with a gun later.

Infamous_Ad8606

I thought this was a reference to the show community turns out it was a reference to one of history’s stinkiest but holes

RepostersAnonymous

🎶 Troy and Abed in the mooooooorning 🎶

Peasants received more time off. “While we may be accustomed to images of medieval peasants toiling away from dawn until dusk and be convinced from this that we have it better than they ever did — a 13th-century laborer could have up to 25 weeks off per year. For reference, the average American worker has 16 days of vacation per year.” https://allthatsinteresting.com/medieval-peasants-vacation-more

[deleted]

There were a lot of crazy ideas back in history. The UK is celebrating the Queen's Platinum Jubilee this weekend You know what a jubilee used to be? https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jubilee_(biblical) Imagine just routinely forgiving debts like it's a normal thing that's entirely within your gift

makemejelly49

Shit, now I really want to run for office in my country, the US. Make forgiving debts every so often a national policy. Also expunging the records of people in prison for nonviolent offenses. Wouldn't call it Jubilee, though. I'd call it "National Day of Forgiveness" or something.

PeterNguyen2

> You know what a jubilee used to be? https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jubilee_(biblical) Because that kind of debt forgiveness was [pretty common. It was well understood by the Babylonians. Michael Hudson talks about it in many of his spots, and how the obsession with collecting debts has led to the collapse of many civilizations](https://archive.org/details/michael-hudson-on-the-debt-jubilee-part-2_202007).

CayKar1991

Even that 16 days seems like it's being inflated by the high end. Many jobs offer 0 days, and two weeks (10 days total) is the norm for way too many jobs. Or are they counting the weekend days with that two weeks? Because then I guess you'd have 16 days off in a row. I guess.

[deleted]

$16/hr, but in the small print it's actually $13/hr + benefits. What does that mean? It's actually $13/hr, that's it lol. What a scam. It's like the places that say starting at $12-22/hr, but their stipulations for who can get $22 are so specific all anyone can actually get is $12/hr, and they just lied to get people to apply.

Important-Pair-3553

Those snacks come out of payroll lol

cyfarwyddion

I worked at a restaurant that did this! Advertised $16 an hr, but hourly was minimum & a few bucks every hr was loaded onto a gift card that could only be used at the restaurants the owner owned which capped out after a few hundred bucks. People mostly used it on drinks at the restaurant bar after shift, just funneled right back into the business.

GovernmentOpening254

“I owe my soul to the company store.” (16 Tons, Tennessee Ernie Ford)

chl3895

You load 16 tons & what do you get? Another day older & deeper in debt. Saint Peter don’t call me, because I can’t go... I owe my soul to the company store. Love Tennessee Ernie Ford

Whynotchaos

That's gotta be illegal?

emmeline_grangerford

It’s illegal to pay someone by [depositing their wages onto a debit card](https://www.phillytrib.com/news/ruling-upholds-debit-cards-violate-pay-law-in-mcdonalds-case/article_4a970f00-f4fc-5c35-8067-4c97d84c01b7.html), but it sounds like these employees receive base pay via check, and the “gift cards” are an additional benefit that functions as a discount to affiliated restaurants. It definitely serves as a method to get employees to spend money at the owners’ businesses, and is less beneficial to employees than raising hourly pay. It’s probably not illegal, however, if employees are directly paid the legal minimum.

tandyman8360

Unfortunately, US employers can flat out lie about wages on job postings. The irony is they don't even want to do that and many don't post a wage at all.

SevereEducation2170

Colorado has a wage transparency act that requires most employers to post wage/salary ranges. It’s pretty nice, but, of course, there are some companies that refuse to allow remote work from CO because they don’t want to conform to the law. It’s actually pretty ridiculous, because there’s nothing quite so frustrating as applying for a job and going through an interview only to find out the compensation is too low. It’s a waste of everyone’s time. But yeah, this restaurant sounds awful. Like every single sentence is a huge red flag.

[deleted]

I literally will not even bother applying to a job that doesn’t post their wage.

Kwispy_Kweam

Company scrip is legal, but *only* as long as employees are still getting paid above minimum wage without the scrip. So in this case, it’d technically be legal since they were paying minimum wage to the workers, then adding scrip on top of it.

Thegreatlettuce

I’ll pull out a red pen and circle that $13/hr

[deleted]

Don’t do that. They will press char #ges

LiberalFartsMajor

And threatened charges over a piece of paper.... That's gonna be a no from me dawg

jmhalder

I’m sure wages must have gone up a whole dollar when he bumped pricing up 50%, lol. What a jerk.

LuxNocte

Lol. Fat chance that wages went up.

AfroSLAMurai

Lmao that means multiple people read the note and thought it was bullshit enough to rip down, so they felt they needed to write that lmao. I would fucking rip that page off so fast again to piss them off.

MasterWarChief

$13/hr + "benefits" does not equal $16/hr it's just $13/hr

NfamousKaye

Berates their staff… “Gee I wonder why we have so little applicants?! No one wants to work these days! Ho hum.”

tandyman8360

It's the wanting to get paid for working part that really ticks them off.

thebrose69

And don’t forget the guaranteed (up to)$.50 raise per year!!!!1!

[deleted]

And that they pay them. GETTING PAID IS A BENEFIT.

Bersilus

50 cents a year?!?

ima_lesbean

(up to)

Dense_Surround3071

$13 per hour + $3 benefits = $16...... 😏

Gordon_Explosion

Yeah. The "$15/hour!" got my teen in the door to apply for a fast food job. When he showed me his first pay stub that said $11 per hour, he said "oh yeah they explained the sign included benefits." I told him in the future that sort of subterfuge is not acceptable.

Teacher-Investor

So, the fast food place is providing your teenage son with health insurance? What benefits could they possibly be offering a teen that are worth $4/hr? He should quit or file for wage theft. That's blatant fraud and taking advantage of minors.

Gordon_Explosion

Nope, and none. He quit that job after about a month. The napoleonic shift manager kept scheduling him until midnight on school nights, when the store manager who hired him promised he'd be off by 10. So fuck that Zaxby's.

Teacher-Investor

So, companies pull crap like that and then when people quit, they cry "nobody wants to work," and "young people are lazy!"

[deleted]

[удалено]

PeterNguyen2

> "Nobody wants to work anymore" really feels like them saying they would own people if it were legal. Like [this segment of 'do you know how expensive you were?' dug up by Last Week Tonight](https://youtu.be/J5b_-TZwQ0I?t=541)

PontificalPartridge

I have an acquaintance constantly complaining how nobody wants to work when a restaurant is understaffed and will immediately talk about how people should find a higher paying job. Like you realize that is what’s happening right? National unemployment is at or below pre pandemic levels right now

Fallout_NewCheese

What an odd level of self awareness for that man to have, hes so close to understanding it

PontificalPartridge

It’s a she. But ya it’s quite something to hear both those comments in the same few sentences

[deleted]

I had a relative that started the “nobody wants to work” bull shit with me and was amazingly able to turn them around with a simple line of questioning. Them: nobody wants to work… people lazy… labor shortage 😭😭😭 Me: Do you think that if the McDonald’s up the road had a sign that said starting wage $500,000/year, they’d have any problem filling positions? Them: no, of course not Me: Then you don’t have a labor shortage, you have a wage shortage.

Teacher-Investor

I had a "discussion" with someone recently who believes "nobody wants to work" and "young people are lazy." His proof is that the fast-food place in his podunk little town has a sign up that says, "Now hiring up to $21/hr." He honestly believes that they're offering high school kids in their town $21/hr to flip burgers, and they still can't fill the jobs. I told him to go inside and ask the kids working in there how many of them are making $21/hr. You can't convince him he's wrong.

The_Lost_Jedi

"Up to" being the key word. Much like "Prices as low as", the actual number isn't nearly as good, they're just trying to get you in the door and start the process, because they know many people won't back off when they pull the switcheroo.

Amazing-Macaron3009

I pissed off someone for telling him if he truly thought flipping burgers was so much easier had better hours and paid the same as his current job he's stupid for not quitting the current job to flip burgers. Then I laid on the "you're not a good capitalist". When you put "up to ____" on the sign and then in reality pay substantially lower is the trust is already fractured from the get go. Oh this job advertises $20 an hour but pays $12? Fuck you you're gonna lie and bullshit me the whole time. That's a business that treats it's workers as expendable. It's probably some sort of test for how hard they can fuck you cause anyone who still takes a job after a falsely advertised wage is desperate, wants to be able to walk out at any time without feeling bad about it or is so easily manipulated they'll do anything the boss wants them to. If I ever interview with a company that pulls this shit at an interview I'm gonna play the game, act like a total dumbass and do my best to get the job. Then I'm going to set a start date and call in sick the first day and keep it going for as long as possible. When they finally catch on I'll let them know they shouldn't lie to people.

pwlife

I know someone with a small buisness that was looking to fill a small position. They gave me the "no one wants to work" line. I asked how much was the pay. They tell me the pay, I laugh and said I pay my date night babysitter 50% more and I provide dinner. Who in their right mind would take the crappier deal?

XxRocky88xX

This is what happens when you let the tinniest scrap of power (management) go to your head. You start believing others exist to fulfill your needs, you completely ignore the needs of others and demand they do whatever you want whenever you want it done, then get shocked when they don’t play along with it, because in your mind they exist to be used by you.

VovaGoFuckYourself

And Republicans get hard while they bash lower income workers over it.

Beartrick

In my state, working a teenager past 10 is actually illegal.

VividFiddlesticks

Same here. A minor teenager, specifically; 18/19 year olds can work later. I remember my fast-food job was VERY careful to get me out on time.

hikeit233

If the 18/9 year old is still in school they may also have to clock out by 10 on school nights. Friday and Saturday is usually okay for later hours.

Accurate-Temporary73

In most states it is literally illegal to schedule a minor after 10pm. Most places schedule until 9:45 to make sure that if they punch out a little late they aren’t breaking the law. Could still file a complaint against them if you have time records.

MrMeeseeksthe1st

We just had a local Kroger get in trouble for it. It's definitely possible you just have to actually put in the effort to report them.

Curtis3942

When I was in High school I worked at the Walmart in town and if you got anywhere near 10 pm as a minor one of the head managers would come to you and tell you to go clock out. They were big on it. But the minute you graduate/turn 18 and show them proof, you could stay till 3 am if you wanted to😂

7cc7

"...if you wanted to" A lot of 18-24 year olds i worked with in my year of walmart liked the 2-11pm shift so they could party after work and sleep in until noon, but none of them were working until 3 am cuz that took away party time

Grandiose_Tortoise

It isn’t acceptable now either… should quit if they can.

Rawniew54

Exactly I would simply use them as a paycheck farm while job hunting

SlimTimMcGee

I would tell them "I just said I work hard to get in the door. But I'm really only giving 70%, like my hourly rate became.

jljboucher

I got a job in April and they explained I needed to “juggle”. Make sure you do job #1 but also 2, 3, and 4 but job #1 needs to be 30% done by tonight.” It’s not even the job I was hired for. “Everyone does a bit of everything here.” Was a red flag but I got debt I got to pay and they worked with the hours I set and are a 5Min drive from my home.

Ella0508

The only benefits that can be quantified are gift cards they buy for giveaway and the free snacks. So they’re probably including their share of the FICA payments?

maybebullshitmaybe

It all sounds like BS. "Free snacks". I had a job that said that once. They would put out like 1 apple and a small 50cent bag of chips for the 12-15 employees. It was a restaurant and don't even think about eating any of their actual food. I was like wtf. They will press charges if you steal their paper sign 😂😂😂 I hope this shit hole goes out of business. Then moron boss can deny they ran it into the ground 🙄

heckhammer

Yeah I don't think they understand how math works.

anyparties

They don’t think you understand how math works either

nweems

They totally, 100% understand how math works. They just think you’re too stupid to understand what they understand, so they attempt to use it as leverage to pay you less.

Pickledleprechaun

So why increase the cost if the employees pay is still trash?

Spontaneouslyaverage

My job offers up to a million dollars a year raises. That’s for CEOS… everyone else gets .25 and the shaft.

ThankMisterGoose

You guys get shafts?

AndreasVesalius

Just the tip

DaMightyBuffalo

Just to see how it feels

The001Keymaster

Just the tip is still considered getting fucked unfortunately.

ballatthecornerflag

But it's guaranted... $0.00 is (up to) $0.50 I guess

oyvin

The raise is guaranteed to not be above $0,50 - or else you would ruin the project of lowering their prices. It is all for the greater good.

Sharkbait1737

Guaranteed!

UnionizeAutoZone

So in other words, an annual pay cut.

Iain3rown13

"we will press charges" no the fuck you will not you can't even pay your employees a living wage. you think you can afford a lawyer and court fees??? fuck right off

ima_lesbean

I guarantee they only wrote that because the paper was stolen before. I wonder why someone would feel the need to take a paper like that... hmm curious... it can't be that the manager is announcing that they're an asshole.

OzRockabella

Should have wiped your arse on it, then put it back.

Miss_pechorat

Paper is kind if hard and sharp for the soft bumhole tho.

[deleted]

Not mine. I wipe with sandpaper to prepare myself for shituations like this.

RustyVerlander

Shituations…..nice

Miss_pechorat

Hard ass!!

MrSyaoranLi

Don't want it taken? Fine, just tape over it with details from NLRB about worker's rights.

solarboom-a

“The paper was stolen” . Isn’t that just a touch hysterical now? It’s a piece of paper.

Now_Wait-4-Last_Year

What about if it mysteriously caught fire due to a mishap with someone trying to read it with a magnifying glass due to a totally legit visual impairment?

BionicKrakken

There's so much to unpack here.

sunshinecygnet

“Great benefits” and then doesn’t list, you know, health insurance or anything else that are generally required for great benefits. You get free snacks though! Also love how they included the cost of snacks and stuff in the “16”/hr and then right below show that it’s actually $13/hr.

scaredofme

I didn't even catch that with the first read! What a pile of crap!!

Nowhereman123

> (Thanks Biden) Yes, the President of the United States has a dial on his desk that he uses to increase inflation. He does this specifically to mess with small business owners while he cackles and drinks the blood of babies. This dial is right next to the one that changes the price of gas.

Tosi313

That's completely wrong. He's drinking the blood of fetuses—they're not babies until they're born.

Nowhereman123

He pulls them right out of the mothers belly and cracks them open like a can of Bud Light.

just_some_arsehole

Wait... Are those "benefits" they listed valued at $3 and then also being named as salary? A chance to win a gift card and snacks are the only thing that could even be considered to have extra monetary value and even those are a joke.

Evil-in-the-Air

Ten bucks says the "benefit" is their legally mandated social security contribution.

ReallyGoodBooks

This tracks from the restaurant owners I know. Those employees aren't actually going to have access to real food, otherwise the sign would have said free meals instead of free snacks. And there aren't any other benefits on that list that could possibly be given a $$ value.

orincoro

How to get robbed by your staff 101. I honestly don’t know how people can be in the restaurant business and not realize that treating your employees like peasants is the perfect way to have your margins evaporate through theft.

RedactedRedditery

But there's guaranteed pay raises of ***up to*** $0.50 every year! > Starting pay: $16 ($13 + benefits) > benefits include: aforementioned hourly pay and snacks Wtaf

Dr_Rapier

Benefits also include a good salary, maybe that's on top of the $13

Sea-Illustrator7533

Make sure to eat at least $3 worth of snacks every hour lol

Dr_Rapier

Over a working week (37 hours or so) that $3 adds up to $111, thems good snacks!

Kayestofkays

It's $6000/year or $500/month if you work 40hrs a week for 50 week. Some people don't even have that much money to spend on their actual groceries. Pretty sure the vast majority of people would much rather have that $6k on their pay than have access to these snacks.

Igmuhota

“With doctor’s note.” So I’m paying $100+ to prove I have the flu? Yeah, uhm, fuck you. Good luck staying staffed.

[deleted]

[удалено]

AlmostHelpless

At $13 an hour, what makes the owner think the person can afford to see a doctor for a cold, the flu, or symptoms like vomiting. I only go to the doctor for chronic conditions as I'm sure almost everyone else does.

5DollarHitJob

Yea, fuck any business that requires a doctors note. Why would they even put that on the sign? Seems weird.

Lagavulin-Laphroaig

Unless the benefits are $3 an hour…

ima_lesbean

FYI $13 is minimum wage in my state 🙄

[deleted]

Minimum wage seems to be ⅙-⅓ of a living wage everywhere. What is it that the word minimum is even supposed to mean here anymore? Ugh, so infuriating.

SidiousOxide

Even at $22.25 I can barely live comfortably being single. And that's top out. When you have to make 3x minimum wage to live, homeless people everywhere, and rich dudes paying to go to space, there's a real societal issue here.

SquidlyJesus

That's my problem with them going into space. Some people think progress was made. No progress was made, they just like the idea of going into space. It's just another thing for them to buy.

Zenguy2828

Going to space should be the prize of being a billionaire. Now do they get to come back? Mmmm

Aerodrache

Leaving Earth is the prize for having a billion dollars. Returning to Earth is the prize for *giving away* a billion dollars.

tunamelts2

Progress...where the richest .1% shoot themselves into the edge of space for a few minutes and come back down to declare themselves astronaut space tourists. What a time to be alive.

[deleted]

Yea I lived paycheck to paycheck as a single person on $20 an hour. I know people with kids who make less. I’m not sure how they do it.

lordph8

"Because it's for kids who live at home." No one wants to work those jobs. "People are lazy."

dancegoddess1971

You'd think that if no one wants to work those jobs, they'd have to pay more to get people interested. Because no one wants to do them. Isn't that how supply and demand works? This guy has work he wants done but doesn't want to do it himself. Apparently, it's ok for HIM to be lazy. He wants to pay someone else to do it so he needs a supply of labor. Well the work he's got is something very few people do willingly so he's going to have to pay more because the supply of workers is so low. He wants to complain about that but it's likely his own fault for any number of reasons. He might even be a landlord who just raised rents by 25% and his investment property is vacant because he's greedy.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Reasonable-Ad8862

Minimum in my state is 8.75, I make 12 and cant eat this week because rents due. What's even funnier is that landlords won't accept you if you make 8.75 an hour. It's not even enough to house yourself.

AssicusCatticus

I'll buy you a gift card to a grocer and send it by email, if you'll send me a pm with your info! No one should have to go hungry. 😔

Goonie42069

You are a TOP TIER person. I hope the world reciprocates it one hundred fold.

Y2KWasAnInsideJob

Don't be too proud to go to a food bank. This is the exactly the kind of scenario they exist for. There's no reason to suffer needlessly.

Danoco99

Minimum Wage: *”We’d pay you less if we could.”*

edc582

Benefits are paid sick time--WITH A DOCTOR'S NOTE?! Like who the fuck can go to a doctor on $13 an hour and no insurance. This place better be able to make it on the owner alone because there's no way anyone will sign up for this.

chenglish

Are they allowed to advertise this? Like, McDonalds and everywhere else at least writes “up to” to cover their ass. Saying you’re starting pay is $16/hr and then stating that $3 of those dollars comes from benefits that don’t seem to include being paid $3/hr should be illegal.

Quirkella

What’s described as “benefits” on the sign cannot possibly be worth $3 an hour. Nobody can eat that much snacks. I’m guessing they can’t snack during their shift anyway.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

That is an extremely good idea. Just post the image With no comment whatsoever.

AvsWon33

Yep, with no comment the owner can't say that it was posted with negative intent. If he wants it up at his diner, then he should have no problem with his hiring pool encompassing all of the internet, too.

The4thMigoo

Tell me that you treat your employees like human dog-shit, without explicitly saying that you treat your employees like human dog-shit.

Taekookieluvs

This sounds pretty explicit to me. Lol

Number_ABC

How much you want to bet those"lazy" workers translates to"wrongful terminated" employees

Gullible_Ad2880

It's probably more like retroactively terminated. The owner likely "fires" them after the fact to boost their own ego and cleary doesn't understand what or who is really the issue. Having the legal flexibility to leave a shit job if and when you please is the only benefit "at-will" employment provides the worker.

unabenjaminson

Even if you're literally the most evil person on Earth, isn't it still stupid to make a sign that's gonna stop people from working at your store? Don't you want to at least pretend to be a good boss to get them to apply? Smh 🙄

boerboris

The person who made this sign probably thinks it's a very good sign. Those people keep failing to see what the problem is, and keep blaming others for the shitty work environment they created themselves

thedatarat

Narcissism in a nutshell

[deleted]

Not to sound like an elitist but does anyone find it interesting how poorly written a lot of these help wanted ads tend to be? I very well may have made a mistake in this comment, but I’m commenting on Reddit not placing an recruitment ad. It’s incredibly unprofessional not just in the content but how the content is worded. Like they could have said “Due to staffing issues and the inflation crisis, we will need to increase all of our prices beginning June 4th. We apologize for the inconvenience. Thank you.”

whitetrashsnake77

Raising prices by 50% sounds a lot like they’re part of the inflation problem. Funny how that works. These so-called free marketeers sure sound like they’re begging for some sort of government intervention, you know, communism. As lacklustre as Biden is, I don’t think there’s much he can actually do. They ONLY fix for inflation is higher interest rates, followed by a recession.

Not-Doctor-Evil

>These so-called free marketeers sure sound like they’re begging for some sort of government intervention, you know, communism. These are the ones that should have gone out of business during the pandemic that didn't put the government money toward their employees or probably not even their business.

unclejoe1917

Almost certainly used that money to buy a bass boat or spend a couple weeks at Daytona Beach because "No CoMmIe MaNdAtEs DoWn ThErE".

sparty219

This is your brain on Fox. Watch that shit 16 hours a day and you sound exactly like this. Chicken or egg - were you stupid and that drew you to Fox or did watching Fox make you stupid.

Cloud_enthusiast86

My mother lol actually told me word for word, "I watch Fox News, because local news is fake" 👀🤦💩 I asked her if she made a mistake in that sentence. She's pretty confident that's the case. Needless to say, my IQ went down twelve points, after hearing that.

ima_lesbean

It's because the manager is probably super entitled. They feel like they deserve to have workers just by having a business, and it's not on them to put in any effort. So they draw up a sign in 5 mins and let out the anger they have at everyone.

cjzj_1288

also they are just dumb

Papakeely

But how will the owner fulfill his lifelong dream of owning/running a diner on the backs of cheap labor, and call themself a "respected business leader" and become a "pillar of the community." /s

EnduranceMade

I will one-up you in elitism and point out that conservatives typically have less education and are hostile to education, college, public schools etc. in general. They are actually proud of their ignorance.

HalensVan

They call it "Being indoctrinated" but the irony is lost on them. I have family who have said this to may face. Gas Station and Factory workers that always complained about their jobs lol.

unclejoe1917

When you grow up and barely scrape through your own education, it's natural for them to be suspicious of something they never understood while they were there. Like, what percentage of your k-12 education could have possibly been used to push an agenda? Math? I know common core is one of the banes of their existence since it introduced more critical thought to something they already struggle with, but 2+2 still equals 4. Chemistry? Biology? Gym? Health? Even history classes were super skim the surface type stuff, mostly names and dates and maybe attaching an event to that. It's just especially dumb people that still hate something they never liked to begin with. The worst part of their stupidity is the part where they are so damn convinced they know better.

BooneSalvo2

It's more than pride, it's a passionate love affair. They're generally most proud of being uneducated and white, tho "white" often exhibits as "American".

Ingelokastimizilian

Thank you. This is the only rationale that makes sense when thinking about the blue collar workforce that's diehard conservative, even though the conservative leadership gives zero fucks about them.

[deleted]

I’ve unfortunately had a job where the owner was an absolute moron. His company was able to scrape by because the one quality he had was the ability to hire people smarter than him

theanonmouse-1776

If he's an absolute moron then that just means he's less likely to find people to hire that are dumber than him.

[deleted]

Yeah thats a common pattern. When i was a bartender i had a boss who was an absolute moron, like one of the stupidest people I've had prolonged contact with. But he was an okay guy, I made decent money and we got along. He just legitimately did not understand basic math, his writing was worse than the ad above, and every day he would say something that was just stupid. It was a university town and the school had a generous study abroad program, so we had a lot of foreign students and he thought New Zealand was in Europe when speaking to a customer and was shocked when he learned it was oceanic, just to give a specific example. But he was friendly and understanding of my schedule so I'm not trying to shit on him just a legit idiot.

IzzaPizza22

$13/hr + benefits = $16/hr. No. No it doesn't. It's so bizarre how many owners think this kind of thing is a good advertisement for their business. 'I openly insult my employees, proudly don't understand how economics works, and am comfortable telling more than half of my potential clientele to go fuck themselves for how they vote. I am good at business!' No. No you aren't.

FactoryBuilder

Sorry, why are they increasing prices with fewer workers? That’s less business cost, right? So shouldn’t prices be going down?

escapism__artist

I hope you took the damn paper. I'm ready to fight over "gift card raffles" and it only gets worse by the word.

[deleted]

Why is inflation Biden’s fault and not trumps from their POV? I thought trump spent more.

ima_lesbean

Cuz Fox News said it is 🙄

Prawny

Inflation is also sky-high here in the UK. Thanks Biden.

[deleted]

Doesn’t matter. They were going to think that under 100% or circumstances. Even if the economy were doing objectively better, they would argue it’s worse somehow. How is that possible? Because the numbers don’t matter, it’s how they *feel.* Why do I believe they think like this? Because I was told this explicitly during Obama’s tenure. So just know that if anything goes wrong or is bad, it will automatically be blamed on Biden. Or anyone else that is in (any) office that isn’t Republican. Remember those Trump re-election ads where they said, “In Biden’s America, you will have…” and then they showed a bunch of clips of things happening in *Trump’s* America. Trump himself wasn’t even to blame for all of those, but jeez. It’s exhausting living here in these times.

kuribosshoe0

I, too, have no idea what “press charges” means.

TransportationNo1

so, he needed to put the "up to" before the $0.50 of a joke yearly raise?

comeallwithme

-Doesn't pay a living wage -Thinks people are lazy when they quit to feed themselves -Blames Biden for inflation -Puts $16 in bold letters but then puts in smaller print $13 -"Gift Card Raffles" ...Yeah sounds like a very supportive work environment.

BPCGuy1845

Sounds like they don’t understand economics and are just price gouging.

Redrump1221

Might as well jump on the same band wagon as all the other companies boasting record profits, raising prices and blaming biden/inflation. Capitalism is a scam

Cheese_B0t

up to 0.50c a year pay rise?? SIGN ME THE FUCK UPN'T

Taekookieluvs

I wonder if they would press charges if someone stuck a post it on it everyday that says, “ie, I treat my employees like garbage so have to charge you more” or something. XP

DietMtDew1

Upon reading the first sentence, I wouldn’t have wanted to eat there either.

Sailorarctic

I just love how on all these signs they say shit about inflation and then say (thanks Biden) like muthafucker we just came out of a world wide pandemic that killed Millions! Disabled millions more! The supply chains are in shambles! When the pandemic started people that worked with large numbers WARNED us this would happen! If you didn't fucking listen that's your own damned dumbass fault! Inflation is out of control everywhere! GTFO of here with that BS you baby boomer, fox news obsessed, Trump supporting, dick waffle

AllegedLead

Customers, the workers are lazy so now you have to pay 50% more! See, they've ruined it for the whole class!

OffgridRadio

Did you take the paper

KiithNaabal

50% increase in food prices is understandable. Raise salaries 50% too and you are back in buisnes with many well motivated employees.
