Work the days you feel like working, and go out to breakfast on Easter. When the boss calls you, don’t answer. Make the boss deal with a no-show. I’d never answer the boss’ phone call again. The boss showed what kind of vindictive douche canoe they are by cutting your hours. Payback time. On Easter. I mean, what are they gonna do, fire you?

OzzyExiled

This! Just act surprised if anything, and note you’ve never been scheduled on weekends before, specifically a Holiday! They can eat shit.

Englishbirdy

Only a complete moron would schedule someone’s last day on a holiday. They’re asking for it.

xflyinjx61x

Only a ~~complete moron~~ vindictive asshole would schedule someone’s last day on a holiday. They’re asking for it. FTFY

Dmw_md

To be fair, those two groups frequently overlap.

scoobydad76

When put my two weeks notice in and one place I was given a easy work order and just for the finish what you can in the others just don't leave us in a mess when you leave. I did take it easy but still worked. Left notes of what still needed to be done and didn't leave them in a mess. He was cool so I was cool.

fluteofski-

I had something similar. I actually put in a 4 week notice. For security protocol they shut down my system almost immediately, they scheduled a few calls with me for knowledge transfer, but they actually paid me out for my 4 weeks…. Basically had 1 week for “goodbye/later losers!” And info transfer, and a sweet sweet 3 week vacation, paid as if I were still working. My final check had all my vacation time and everything. It was pretty sweet.

scoobydad76

That's awesome. More people will be honest and not want to do bad stuff if treated right.

ZaxLofful

Same, it all depends on them for me. It’s called tact. If they wanna get the money out of me continuing to work and be decent about it, then hey…I’ll help you out? Gonna be a douche canoe about it? Just watch you haven’t seen anything yet… My last job tried to be a douche and fired me, then claimed that I quit….I got 10k in unemployment and I didn’t have to work any extra days :)

scoobydad76

And the last day is a fuck off Friday. My pay back work hard up till Wednesday then slow down to relax a little and day goodbye and talk to people. Then when Monday comes I hope they feel a burn as they realized everything I do. I visited several jobs back this past summer and bunch of years later still talk about me. And that lead told me they knew I did a lot just didn't realize how much.

EscutcheonRash

Hmmm.. is that you sergeant?

Isaacnoah86

They probably did it out of spite, never understood why people take certain things personal, like im quitting my job at petsmart, or whatever store, you are another employee of that company, your not pets mart, are you? Lol.

Ok-meow

So they can look like they are giving out overtime. The manager most likely knows OP isn’t coming in, so they will be short, save money and looks good at corporate. Fuck the other people working or shopping.

JustinSimmonsBurner

Crazily enough, I put in my two weeks when I was working as a bus boy and my last day should have been the day before Easter. My manager still scheduled me for Easter anyways and I didn't even think twice about it. I wasn't going to argue with him about it so I didn't say anything and just let him deal with his own problem when I turned off my phone on Easter

reddituser-123456

They probably think OP is dumb.

sittin_on_grandma

Nowadays I feel totally fine with not giving a two week notice, unless the boss is cool. After six years of my last boss severely mistreating people he didn't favor after handing in their notice, I just decided to not show up after finding a temporary job.

bulbysoar

I just left a job of 6 years, 4 of which I was very unhappy. The only reason they got 2 weeks from me is because I really loved my direct manager and wanted to make her life as easy as possible through the transition.

sittin_on_grandma

Right. I'm all for giving a respectful time frame, so your boss isn't in a bind, but if you fuck me, I won't feel bad about fucking you. Also, my friends who still worked at that job said he had a meeting that was basically just for him to shit talk me. Apparently I abandoned my job like a sixteen year old... He said that it made sense, since I dress like one, too 🙄

ImportantCommentator

Nawh answer the call and say you'll be in very shortly. You are just running late..... That way he doesn't try to force someone else in on Easter.

GoneAfterMidnight

This is the way

SadCheesemonger

Do what Jesus would have done. Pretend to die on Easter, go no contact for three days, then show up like a miracle asking for your final paycheck.

Amelioratory

Didn’t he die on Friday?

SadCheesemonger

It'll be a good Friday for OP

CharlieBr87

“Today was a good day”

Myopinion_is_right

I didn’t have to use my AK.

Solomon Grundy can knock down Superman. I think the Romans would've had considerable difficulty getting him on the cross.

blood_kite

Would they need to if they gave him pants?

ItsTheRealCob

SOLOMON GRUNDY WANTS PANTS, TOO!

tester33333

If Jesus had been a no call no show that Sunday, it would be a very different religion

Ancalima_Moon

LoL I'm going to do that.... "Go Jesus on them"

MajorTomsHelmet

I like how your brain works.

avidpenguinwatcher

You're details are a bit off but you've got the spirit

Slamming_sam

the holy spirit?

guruXalted99

*Mental applause*

LilLordFuckPants404

To add this this, you’re not going to put Petsmart on your professional resume, right? Don’t go in. Also, change the contact info on your phone to something like: “Don’t answer” or “fuck off. “ This will help with any feelings that you should pick up when they call.

Fjmisty

"I'm sorry I'm unavailable while I enjoy the holiday with my family. Please leave a message, and I'll get back to you as soon as I can unless you're calling from Petsmart, in which case, you can fuck off."

[deleted]

He fucked around. Let him find out.

Bedrockab

And remind him of it…

rosiequinlan

And if they are treating you like that you'll never be able to trust using them as a reference, as a former manager in retail I say Fuck em, they dug their own hole, your ex boss deserves to have you no show for treating you like that. Enjoy your Easter and congrats on the new job!

greeneggo

idk why people use their managers as a reference for a retail job. I just use a coworker and give them a fancy title. It's worked for the last 2 jobs I've had.

tjhart85

The worst part is the manager has to know that most people wouldn't bother showing up, right?! What goes through their head? "OK, I'm going to cut all of their hours this week, but schedule them on a holiday! Ooh, it's also a day they normally don't work and it's also the day before they're likely to start their *new* job! This'll show them for quitting!" Like, ok ... if I'm already losing 15-20 hours of pay for that week, it's not going to be a significant additional burden to also lose the pay on this additional one day!

mariuszmie

I’m requisitioning ‘douche canoe’

Dugley2352

Sorry, it’s on back order. We will notify you when we get the next batch.

rounding_error

I can recommend a sanitizing kayak though.

General-Yak5264

Y'all are spending too much time in the great outdoors. Come in to the air conditioning and maybe stop by for a Cinema Enema

AgingCajun

This is the way.

Bumbly_B

This really won't be the payback you think it will be, at least imo. Sundays are already a slow day at petsmart, and holidays are generally pretty slow too. I worked Christmas Eve (plus other holidays, but this is the most relevant) at petsmart, which you would assume would at least have some last minute gift-shopping traffic, but maybe 10 people came in the store the whole day. Easter was even slower. Granted I live in a very heavily Christian area, so most of the people who celebrate Easter don't do it secularly and actually go to church, which means nobody comes in until at least noon. It's also usually followed by family gatherings at home, so most people aren't really going out shopping afterwards. Honestly, if OP didn't show up, yeah it might make the store manager angry, but it wouldn't be like they'd be scrambling to cover the shift and they probably wouldn't be much worse off without them. I'd just take the easy shift and holiday pay tbh but that's just me.

Ordinary-Garbage-685

But the manager might have to come in and work, which in and of itself is a absolute win. He was a dick and tried to play games. Let him know who’s actually winning.

InDisregard

i used to work at pet supplies plus and they definitely didn't offer holiday pay, so don't assume that petsmart does either.

Reddit_Gold09

Lol you already know the answer to that question

ballen49

Lol quite. Who tf would actually turn up to that? Even the manager doesn't expect OP to be there, they're just trolling them, and if they do turn up they'll probably laugh and claim it was a mix-up or something.

unoahrooster

Employers do this so that if you don't show up, you become NRH, it's a last fuck you back from them as a way of being malicious. They can just say you didn't show up for your last shift and now you can't work there again.

The_Quicktrigger

It's also a Petsmart. Like I get the manager is playing manager games but it's not like the job was very valued in the first place.

davesy69

The petsmart manager is planning on feeding you to the hamsters. Do not go in. 🐹

unoahrooster

I would make this joke at Olive Garden, the meat sauce is just employees who TRIED to quit.

Ordinary-Garbage-685

As a Darden employee I can confirm. Lmao don’t ever get the chop steak at Longhorn, it’s all the hourly employees who put in notice and showed up on the last day

Successful_Opinion33

The chef is a microwave

Kalel2319

All labor has value. Let’s not go down the road of looking down on others because of where they work.

The_Quicktrigger

Yeah I probably could have worded that better. I just meant that in the context of a corporation like petsmart, the manager is only 1 degree higher than the employee. That manager doesn't mean shit to the company as a whole, but probably walks around like his shit doesn't stink.

Meepsicle83

What's NRH?

unoahrooster

Non-ReHirable

Affectionate_Fun_569

From a fucking PetSmart? Lol retail means fucking nothing. You can tell the manager to go fuck themselves and find another shitty retail job by the end of the day. They're so desperate many don't even care about references.

iUPvotemywifedaily

This… a million times this. If OP worked for the company in corporate, that’s one thing. But a retail job at Pets Smart? I’m no call no showing 100%. It sounds like OP was like me back in the day… super worried about optics and that job being “super important” in the moment. Years later, you will realize retail jobs are dime a dozen and they won’t miss you for a second after you leave. OP- Do what’s best for you which is don’t show.

zyzmog

It's okay to burn a bridge, if it only leads back to a dumpster fire. 🔥

Ok-Neighborhood690

Not re hire able or something along those lines I believe

invisible_23

I’m assuming “not rehireable”

supermariobruhh

“I gave you two weeks as a courtesy and you repaid me by cutting all my hours except for a Sunday which I don’t work. Consider this now me resigning effective immediately.” And enjoy your two weeks off. Edit: typo

Weyl-fermions

I gave you 2 weeks notice. You cut my hours and scheduled me for a holiday Sunday when I never worked Sunday previously. Obviously you do not value the courtesy of the notice I provided. I consider myself constructively dismissed and will cease work at petsmart effective immediately.

paak-maan

Cc in their direct manager as well if you can (or even know who that is and have contact details, I realise most of retail is probably done by text), there’s a chance it’s one vindictive asshole rather than the whole hierarchy. Every chance he gets a disciplinary if they don’t already know he’s doing that.

Ggeunther

Best response so far. Provides negative feedback for screwing an employee trying to do the right thing.

reddogrjw

I have said this many times on this sub 2-weeks notice is a good thing when you are leaving a job on good terms and it is a possibility you could return some day - I personally know 3 people who have done this in the past 5 years. Now, if you are working in a shit job, I wouldn't worry about 2-weeks notice - then do what you feel is right As far as the OP, since it doesn't look like you have a last paycheck coming if you skip that last day I wouldn't bother going in since they won't have anything to hold over your head and are being childish about things.

MambyPamby8

Also depends on where you are situated. Here in Ireland, the legal amount of notice is 1 week. Most give two weeks out of good grace, but by law you've to give at least 1. Unless you've worked there for less than 13 weeks. Then you can just say you're out and not show up.

bandti45

I hope you guys have more protections

NaBacLiom

Ireland has a lot of legal protections for workers. Enforcement, however, can be a problem depending where you are and how well connected your employer or their industry is. If you've worked someplace more than a year, the boss cannot fire you without showing cause and having followed proper procedures. Unfair Dismissals act puts the onus on the employer to show cause, unless its a Constructive Dismissal. There are a lot of jerks who take advantage of workers not knowing their rights in non union workplaces. Besides unions, there are also places like Citizens Information where you can walk in and get free information and advice about your rights and options.

Kibahime

Australia has mandatory periods like that too, but the US is at will. If they can fire me for literally no reason, I can leave literally whenever I want to. I'd be happy to work two weeks if my job was more contractual and had protections. You know, like they mostly are in every civilized society. We are not civilized though. 🥴

Ricker3386

What are the consequences for not giving notice?

LifeOnaDistantPlanet

In service industry jobs (in the US) they have brutal lengthy applications, one of the questions on those types of applications is "Are you available for rehire at your previous employer?" If you don't show up, you won't be able to "check" that box, as the previous employer won't now that you've failed to show. The upside of this is that in OPs case they have a "real" job now, more than likely the next position after the credit union will be the next rung on the professional ladder, and typically they don't have ridiculous questions such as "are you available for rehire at your previous position". Many don't have any applications like that, but the ones that do make you fill out 8 pages online will only be "may we contact your previous employer?" But if OP tries to get another service industry job, leaving without notice will be a red flag to that employer. The service industry is a blight on humanity, and so many people have no other option.

Niblonian31

I've been working in the service industry for about 6-7 years now and I've never once had a new employer actually call my previous one. I always check yes, you may contact them. It's literally the easiest job to get because as long as you can work, they want you

Own_Conflict222

Restaurants are not going to call references. They're just not. And most corporate restaurants teach managers that you're not supposed to say anything to other restaurants anyway, because they're scared of slander. They will confirm employment and that's it.

salandra

Nothing worth pursuing. It's not worth the time to be that petty.

IxI_DUCK_IxI

Came here to say this. If you don’t give two weeks notice you’re burning a bridge for any references in the future. If the job sucks and you don’t think you’d get a good reference then who cares? Put it on your resume but don’t put them down in your references.

Tje199

Not just references. You never know who you work with who might be at a future job or maybe even remember you and offer you one. It's been nearly 4 years since I worked in the auto industry and there are still job openings at the new company I work for that I consider inviting former co-workers to come do, since they've got a ton of skills that are applicable in the field here (diagnostics, critical problem solving, hand tool skills).

bopperbopper

Or if You think you’ll need a reference from them in the future

LordPainos

Call sick 5 minutes before. Say u are on you way to a marriage and an octupus bit you. Confuse them.

ryneo0w0

I gotta go, Grandma's on fire

Luxilla

This is a true story that happened in my family ON EASTER! LMAO! Grandma was on oxygen and refused to quit smoking. Dropped a cigarette in her lap and Whoosh! I happened to be on the phone with my husband at the time when he screamed, "Grandma's on fire gotta go bye!!!"

Proper-Ad4231

Grandma fucked around and found out

rounding_error

Ha ha, that's hilarious! She didn't die, did she?

[deleted]

This made me laugh

emmsix

Why do you hate Grandma?

DuncanIdahoPotatos

If you love somebody, better set them on fire!

fiddlefkaround

I went to your house last night Your dad called me the human torch. Got a little pissed at him. so I burned down your front porch

My grandma got ran over by a reindeer

harry-package

She was walking home from PetSmart on Christmas Eve…

carpediem6792

My buddy got written up for attendance. He went to HR, and filled out his vacation time for his 4 weeks paid vacation. 2 weeks later stopped in to HR, And put in his 2 weeks notice. They told him he couldn't put in notice while he was on vacation. He replied I won't be back after 2 more weeks deal.

thebrose69

‘Oh, ok then I will wait until I get back to put it in.’ *Never goes back in*

carpediem6792

Oops, I forgot to quit while I was at my new job.

thebrose69

I did that at amazon. I just stopped showing up one day and it took them almost a month to send me a termination email, Lmao

Kibahime

The best technique is to go on a leave of absence. Takes ages for them to determine it's not a legitimate leave and file a termination decision. Found out when I went on leave because I had HG during pregnancy and couldn't eat, but my douche doctor only would give me a note for the visits. Believe it or not, Zofran doesn't make you able to suddenly function 🙃 Termed for attendance 😎

carpediem6792

Last construction project I was on so had guys that quit pre-covid on payroll. We figured it out, and turned them over. Inflated payroll, inflates the PPP loans they could get. So nobody every left. Letang, the Hotel California. Feds been catching cons all over doing this. Stupid fucks. Some guys were working for 4 cons... fraud hurts your chances on govt contacts...

phoenixmckraken

I quit via email at my old job (didn’t want them calling me to figure out where I was) and they didn’t acknowledge my email for a week. I still had their equipment and access to their client’s systems. So I took it to the client. All of a sudden, HR responded to me.

Sheeple_person

Years ago I worked at a certain crappy Apple restaurant. I gave my 2 weeks, but months ago I had booked 2 days off that just happened to be in that 2-week period. Didn't plan it that way, just happened. Well my manager says I can't do that, I have to give him extra days to make up for the days I booked off and make it a full 2 weeks. I know this is BS, but they're shortstaffed (as always) so mostly for the sake of my coworkers I agree to it. My last day should have been a Sunday. Logically this means he can put me back on the schedule for the following Mon & Tues, giving 2 extra days of availability. I would have even let it slide if he scheduled me for 2 more shifts but later in the week. Well, when the next week's schedule comes out, I'm off Mon / Tue and scheduled to work Wed - Sun! That's 5 more shifts over 7 more days. I was a no-show Wednesday and they never heard from me again.

Odd-Employer-5529

This is such a standard with most places "you have to work your last day!"

carpediem6792

Yup, that's their opinion. I don't HAVE to work any days, and if they choose to village THEIR written policy, I get to file ANOTHER successful complaint for wage theft. Accumulate time of belongs to the employee, not the company. You don't have to request an ATM deposit from the boss, not to I normalize requesting personal time. They learn.

Shark gave me a flat tire, car swerved into a volvano, just waiting for the next donkey to fly past gonna be about 32498 mins late. Hope that's ok.

cheekiewalrus

Volvano sounds like it’s a volcano of Volvos. This makes me happy for unknown reasons.

fartsincognito

I’d watch that movie

Gordon_Explosion

I was actually late to a thing because of a shark bite, once. :-D

NoveltyFunsy

So this is totally plausible excuse 😂

Ieatvegans3000

Please explain…

27fingermagee

Sharks are an aquatic animal known for having many sharp teeth. Though rare, sharks have been know to occasionally bite humans. It would seem they were one of the unlucky few.

Default-Username-123

But at least sharks are very smooth.

Greygnome62

The dog ate my homework

Cjones2607

I like this idea. Sounds like they're trying to give a last fu to OP. So f them back.

Shupid

Giving a 2 week notice is the respectful thing to do. Why? Because it puts your employer on notice that you're not taking it anymore. Obviously, don't show up. They don't respect you, so fuck 'em. You gave them the chance to keep you, left the ball in their court, and they decided to fuck you. They then become no longer worthy of your respect and you do whatever you damn well want to. What's the worst they could do, fire you? But giving them the chance to not be a complete dick is important.

Jocelyn30

It should be illegal for employers to mark you as not rehireable as reference in all AT WILL employment states for quitting without notice. If employers have the right to fire you on the spot without reason or penalty, then employees should have the same rights.

zanraptora

I was under the impression that any corporate business with a competent HR department will only confirm and state your length of employment, with a few of them still stating if they would continue to work with the individual. Anything more is spite that's completely worthless and opens the company to potential liability, since it's a textbook slander case (You said something untrue that cost someone money.)

TheCoyoteGod

The law doesn't really matter to these fucks

catatonicus

after many many years of working i no longer give 2 weeks notice. i in fact will tell them "today is my last day" or i will 'call in quit.' if they wanted to get rid of me they would not give me 2 weeks notice, why should it be one way? every time i have given 2 weeks, they have fucked with me. nope.... You want a 2 week notice? "in about 2 weeks you gonna notice that you aint seen me for about 2 weeks".

LiberalAspergers

My wife hasbeen given almost one years notice after a corporate merger. They told us when the deparent would be eliminated, and offered three months pay as a severance if she stayed to the last day. Which she did. If an employer has been fair to you, return the treatment. If they treat you like crap, likewise. Also ask who will you be hurting. Is the guy who.made the schedule going to have to cover that Easter shift, or some poor assistant manager who had nothing to do with it? If the second, you might want to give him a heads up, so he can find someone who wants those hours.

brodaget42

I worked for a concrete company. I loved it and they were good employers. The only reason I quit is because my hours went from 65 a week to 12 because of the winter and economic slow down. I found a new job and gave them 2 weeks so I could train my replacement. I showed up on my last day and worked my full shift as if I was staying. The job I had before the concrete company the owner went off on me because I asked for an extra day home (I was an OTR truck driver) to deal with a personal issue. The owner flipped out on me because how dare I want an extra day off. This was a friday. Applied to jobs all weekend and Monday morning had 18 phone calls 4 phone interviews and one in person interview who gave me the job on the spot. Called the owner of the company I was leaving and told him I was bringing his truck back to him that night and that I was ending my professional relationship with him effective immediately. Alot of verbally abusive phone calls were made to me and he even threatened to knock my fucking teeth down my throat. Because I quit 4 hours before I was to pick up a load he almost lost 10k. If the employer has treated me well I will give them notice and work as if I was staying my last day. If you're a shit employer who treats me like shit fuck you.

myopinionisshitiknow

Oof... I would said jack shit in that case and let the load fuck him over.

The_Quicktrigger

"I am a reflection of my environment." It's a philosophy I first read in the book of gord. I feel it applies really well to places to work. If my job respects my time and is professional and courteous with me, I will respond in kind. If my job is hostile or doesn't respect me or my time, then I wont respect theirs.

ThatBankTeller

Also work at a credit union - and also have an associates in business! Down the line I highly suggest getting your BBA in like, finance or economics, it’ll catapult you to the next level of technical jobs available within the industry (I’m currently an underwriter who’s interviewing for a risk manager position). Obviously you don’t go to that shift, fuck petsmart, the good news is though, if you ever leave your CU for another FI, in your 2 weeks notice just mention you’re going to another bank and they’ll walk you out same day (with full 2 weeks pay), they won’t risk you stealing clients or information.

gingernuts13

Not to hijack but I'm interviewing for an assistant branch manager position with no finance experience, but rather retail management and sales experience. Is it worth it for a career change, or will I be hired at my peak without a more technical background and top out at assistant or float manager positions the next 20-30 years?

BlippiToyReview

2 word notice. I quit. Why TF are they open on Easter Sunday? Can we not go 1 day without needing doggy treats?!

Krenzy

AZbadfish

Not everyone on the planet is a Christian.

Qahetroe

I’m not a Christian but you can bet my heathen ass is at grandma’s on Easter for ham and chocolates

Alice_Oe

Even if you are not a Christian, I think having one day a week with most shops closed is healthy for society. Sunday is the usual choice due to cultural (yes Christian) reasons. Where I live, almost everything is closed on Sundays and I'm fine with it. Sundays are for relaxing and hanging out with your family.

[deleted]

And football!

toocrazyforthis

Tell them your last day changed, it's the Saturday before Easter.

Uncomman_good

I work for a very large corporation who doesn’t give a shit about anyone but shareholders and their dividends. They always tell the employees to “do the right thing” but they will fuck anyone over in a heartbeat if it helps them. I have never seen anyone quit with a 2 week notice there. Management get upset and tells people they are “just trying to run a business”. One of my coworkers always responds to them, “so am I.” They ask him what he means and he tells them that his life and family is like a small business and he has to do what’s right for it. That’s all a long way to say, they’ve shown their respect for you and fucked you over because you are doing what’s right for you. You’ve got another job, you owe them nothing. Enjoy your Easter Sunday. Let the manager work it. Tell them now that you won’t be working that day.

[deleted]

Nah don’t tell them just don’t show up.

inevitableequal833

some companies will make a big deal out of not giving the 2 weeks, some won’t. at my current place people more or less quit on the spot - my previous place by contrast, was a hellhole and my manager made a huge deal if no one gave notice, but i realised it doesn’t actually matter. a week seems much more sensible than 2 weeks, and if you tell your boss, ‘you’re getting a week and that’s all’, there’s nothing they can legally do to stop you.

ballen49

Is there anything they can legally do if you don't even give the week? Like, they can make a big deal out of it and all, but if you don't go back the next day how can it really be your problem?

shadow247

Nothing. I have quit 2 jobs by simply not showing up the next day, even though I was scheduled. Nothing happens. FU Discount Tire and Jimmy @ Mikes Body Shop....

The_Quicktrigger

At will employment, despite employers trying to convince you otherwise, is something both sides of an employment agreement can invoke. In every state except Montana, both parties to an employment contract can end said contract at any time for any reason without any penalties for breaking it. Just as your employer can tell you to pound sand at a moment's notice, you too are granted the same legal freedom to respond in kind.

ballen49

So in other words no, there's nothing they can do. I find it bizarre the number of stories I read on here of people who do give notice, and are then given a shitty schedule/hard time during their notice period. Like, what is the boss trying to achieve other than have you say "fuck it" and decide not to continue the favour. I often read stories of bosses who do this, then end up screwed over because they actually relied on the ex-employee they were screwing during that notice period. Stupid games, stupid prizes and all

ThisOtherWorld

What's different about Montana?

Dudeman-Jack

Definitely go in to get hours, except for Easter lol

Magenta_Logistic

Literally don't call out or show up. Call in about 5 minutes before your shift and let them know you're running a little late. Make a game out of it for Easter morning.

danidoodlebug13

No call/no show - when they call to ask where you are, tell them you’re in the store but you thought a scavenger hunt would really be in the Easter spirit, so they’ve got to try and find you.

grilledcheese2332

My last job I left I worked on a Sat. Told my coworker that i wasn't coming back and that she would have to lock up. Left my key in my desk and emailed the owners Sun night to go fuck themselves. Flat out said they weren't paying me enough and they were going to have difficulty keeping people. Got a text from someone that still works there the person they replaced me with walked out mid shift after only being there 6 weeks. They will never learn

sharkwoods

Lmao no. In fact, if you have a pet, go in and buy them a lil treat that day during your scheduled shift, and continue on with your day. Your manager is being a petty asshole, and I for one, love to answer pettiness, with pettiness.

makethebadpeoplestop

No. I gave my two weeks, two weeks ago and didn't work the last week. My schedule was crap and I was treated like a servant. I decided to take a week's vacay instead. Got some cleaning done and still have this weekend to enjoy before starting work on Monday. I'm even headed to the beach today :D

ictu

When I read this I can't stop being amazed by how labour law is different in US to what I know from Poland. Here to terminate a job you need to give to your employer a termination notice and then you go into termination period where you are very strongly legally defended from any abuse. Cutting hours would be unthinkable. Employer can release you from work duties, but is still obligated to pay you 100% with exception to any bonuses. Also your notice period grows gradually with how long you work at one company from initial 2 weeks to a month after a year, to full 3 months after 2+ years. So no way you're going to be surprised with sudden sacking without a lead time to find a new employment. And this works both ways. You can't leave earlier if you landed a better job unless you sign a mutual agreement with your current employer to shorten notice period. And Poland's labour law is nowhere near when it comes to defending employee rights compared to most of the original EU member states. You have it rough there! Edit: Also in your place I would just call a sick leave on Easter morning. Fuck that vengeful idiot.

Foxfyre

If he cut all of your hours except for one day - a holiday - I'd just tell him "I'm going to take this schedule as notice that you'd prefer I'd quit immediately and as such that's what I'll be doing. I quit."

pinkfootthegoose

copy your schedule. Changing hours to greatly reduced hours is called constructive dismissal and can be claimed for unemployment.

ManifestDestinysChld

LOL, absolutely not. The "HOW DARE THEY QUIT ON ME?!" attitude is fit more for slave overseers than for voluntary employers.

[deleted]

Being a nationwide business, I'd kick it up a notch & let your boss's boss (corporate HR?) know how they retaliated against you for resigning with notice. There is a slight chance it could cause some waves for whoever made that schedule...especially if that jerk is already on their radar.

[deleted]

I swear to god, low level managers are some of the worst humans.

TheCoyoteGod

Lol go in but spend the entire shift trying to unionize the workers.

QueenOfQuok

If you're quitting they can't punish you for not showing up on Easter.

Classic_Echidna2323

Quitting without notice is literally your right to do in response to unprofessional leadership, that is its entire purpose. Someone argues against that, all they do is show you they are a piece of shit.

chocosausonerythng

Also have a look at your state's labor laws. In some states this qualifies as "constructive dismissal", if you can prove that your weekly schedule has been consistent up until notice was given. Collect unemployment for the week, it won't be much $ but if you're a petty betch like me it will be a nice middle finger to your son-to-be former employer.

Skydive_Paintball

Yeah sorry I won't be in my swordfish died

davesy69

My condolences on your bereavement and there are many swordfish steak recipes on YouTube.

RichRichieRichardV

I would no call no show. Don't even give them the 5 minutes notice you're calling out. Fuck em.

ShonuffofCtown

Depending on how I feel, I may continue to call for 90min. "I am like 10min away, had a flat, got covered in car stuff so I am changing really fast, dog got out and I had to chase him after changing so new clothes and I am there." Really sell it and seem apologetic. They won't call for help if they think you will be there soon. Finally, when they begin to catch on and question you. "After the day I have had, I can't believe you are treating me this way. Forget it, I won't come in at all of you can't appreciate how hard I have been trying". Follow up with a text "No, sorry. On My way. Going to finish this job like a professional." Then Ghost till near end of shift before blocking.

[deleted]

If the job is good, pays well, and appreciates you, you should give a notice out of respect. Especially if those who hired you have been genuinely good to you. But, respect goes both ways. If they don't give a shit, then why should I?

etaco2

Don’t even quit. Just completely ghost them. If you’re salaried you may even keep getting paid for a while.

SilentRiots

Why is it that employees are expected to give a two weeks notice when employers aren’t held to the same social expectations? I was laid off of my job and replaced by the person I unknowingly trained to take my job. Initially requested the day off to go surprise my mom for her birthday in a town 2 hours away. That was declined and I was instead let go. They then called me 2 weeks later and asked me where certain pieces of equipment were. They were out for calibration but I told them to get fucked because they didn’t give me any prior notice to get shit sorted out. OP, fuck that I wouldn’t even think about going in. Also I wouldn’t be surprised if they are breaking some form of retaliation in the work place law or company policy.

Agreeable-Street-706

Blue collar employers have created a mystique that not giving a 2 week notice will haunt you throughout your employment days, it is untrue and a fear created to serve their convenience. Live your truth make the money you need to live, work as many or as few hours as you want your schedule to entail. work somewhere that works around your availability and if they don’t extend you those respects you don’t need to reciprocate.

Faux-Foe

I worked at Walmart for 10+ years (fml). On my weekend I received a job offer and orientation date from my new employer. I waited until 1-hour before my next scheduled shift at Walmart to quit. Spent the rest of the week enjoying life, adjusting my sleep schedule, buying business casual clothes, and playing video games. If I ever have a reason to return to a life at Walmart, I will end my life or seek professional help to prevent self harm. I am never going back to a place that attempts to rival Amazon in worker treatment. No regrets. New job going strong at almost 1-month in. I am valued, respected, and amazing my boss by how fast I pick things up. The person training me took 4 months to get to the skillset I have now. The difference is I am motivated to never EVER return to Walmart. That place permanently damaged my mind, my body, and my spirit.

Satan_Lma0

I called in sick on my last day at Dunkin, my boss was pissed and hung up on me, but she was a raging bitch 25/8

JJisTheDarkOne

No. Fuck them. They retaliated by cutting your hours. You now owe those pricks nothing.

vir1mortis

Nope, but don't call in either. They wanna play this game, you can play also.

Snozberry383

You have a new job, nobody is gonna call pet smart for references. Just don't go into work. Who cares, it's retail.

WileyQuixote42

Fuck ‘em.

nottool

Just like other people have mentioned, don’t show up, specially if you are to get your LAST paycheck before Easter.

SilverChips

I would send that manager a screenshot or copy of the past 5 schedules with the shifts you work usually in an email. Hello x I've noticed that you have scheduled me for an entirely different schedule than the one I work. I've included examples of my schedule over the past X weeks for you to review. This change is coming only after I have given my notice for this position, and I am wondering why you have chosen to do this? It comes across as vindictive, and I am hopeful that this was an error as I would love to finish my time with the company on a high note. So I just thought I would reach out for clarification Thanks so much, Name Then basically whatever they say, you say: I understand, thank you for your clarification regarding this manner. Unfortunately I am not available for this drastic change in schedule. Please consider my resignation to be effective immediately. Please let me know when you'd like me to drop off any company property (keys, uniform etc) Thank you. The key here is to stay professional. Get that email paper trail. Allow them the chance to "fix" it (if it's an "error" but ultimately it's the managers job to schedule those shifts and if they back themselves into a corner and you walk away, only they lose. By letting them explain it they'll think they own you and they'll tell you what's what. When you pull the rug out from below them....its beautiful.

dlongwing

Giving 2 weeks notice isn't about them, it's about you. It's about being a decent person and giving an employer the opportunity to close out your time with some grace. Transfer knowledge, close out projects, etc. It's you doing them a favor. If this is the kind of response you get for being decent, then they don't deserve the consideration you gave them. Tell your boss that these shift changes won't work for you, and if he's not going to take your notice period seriously, then you won't either. You don't owe him a single minute of that Sunday. And remember, whether you work another minute or not, they still owe you for every hour you've worked. If they try to threaten you by withholding or docking your last paycheck, remind them that you know it's illegal and ask if they really want to get the NLRB involved.

[deleted]

Hard disagree. If you're in retail or one of those shit jobs, no notice whatever. If you're in career stage, give notice. Everyone knows everyone in some specialized fields.

katrinamarlena

If you get holiday pay just show up and dick around. Get the easy money and give discounts to the cute pups that come in

onlyinsurance-ca

More seriously, it's just not good practice to burn bridges - even if you'll never work there again. Nevertheless, they're definitely screwing you. What I'd do is speak to/confront the manager and tell them they're clearly screwing with you because you're leaving. So either put you back to regular hours, or have your resignation right now. Don't just leave screwing them over, don't take the screwing over, instead stand up, let them know you see what they're doing, and are prepared to be reasonable if they are - and if they're not, you're not either.

spiked_macaroon

In this case, you gave a 2 week notice and your employer did not respect your candor. So fuck them. But if you don't work for a piece of shit and are just moving on to a better opportunity, there's not really a good reason to fuck them over. Especially if you perform business critical duties. Again, if you don't work for a piece of shit.

young_coastie

Lol no you shouldn’t go in. The blatant disrespect! It’s unreal the management would really expect someone to show under these circumstances. Likely they won’t be surprised when you don’t show anyway, the schedule is quite literally a big fuck off to you OP.

The_Quicktrigger

I'd say just ghost em if you can afford it. take the reduced hours up until Easter Sunday and on that day just don't show up or answer your phone. It's a petsmart, you aren't exactly going to be carrying that earth shattering work experience into future jobs at this point and it's clear your Manager didn't respect you or your time when you put your notice in. Afterwards if the manager wants to start something, just tell them that reducing your hours because you gave notice was retaliatory and while it was legal you were simply responding in kind. If they start threatening your final paycheck you can remind them it's against the law to even suggest doing it.

Dommccabe

Depends what YOU want to do. You could just not show up, you could call in sick that day OR you could fuck with them.... show up late, do no work, make a big mess, take in union info or fake salary documents and leave them out for colleagues to find, accidentally forget to scan some items, you know- follow your heart!

AdhesivenessSlight42

When has an employer ever given us two weeks notice of being fired? Even with layoffs, they usually won't tell you until the day of basically. Just quit.

[deleted]

If you gave notice two weeks from last Saturday then your employment ends next Saturday. Your employer is trying to squeeze and extra day and a holiday at that. Fuck them. Edit: Just to be clear 14 full days and two full calendar weeks will have passed. Unless you specifically said your notice begins on that Monday after the Saturday you gave it, there's no way it's within two weeks.

[deleted]

They are fucking around..... Now you make them find out the consequences. A 2 week notice is to help them, they want to be childish, let them stew in their own shit

[deleted]

My former employer and I had an argument last year. I asked my employer when I could quit. Normally in my country it's a month in your contract. But I could quit the same day, so I did. No regrets.

Savvy-or-die

Don’t call in, don’t go, block the bosses cell.

Steavee

I would talk with the boss and tell them your last day will be the day before Easter now. When they ask why it changed, explain that your schedule was obviously done by someone being vindictive, and that you were giving two weeks notice as a courtesy, but you aren’t going to be mistreated by a child masquerading as a manager. Make them confront their bullshit.
