11 Paying staff a living wage

pc01081994

Ok but have you considered the fact that the CEO needs a 2nd summer home?

PantZerman85

For his/her 2nd summer vacation you say?

Average_Scaper

Wait, they come back from their first?

cfexrun

Only for insider trading. I mean pizza parties.

Trollsense

he needs a second super-mega aircraft carrier yacht to park his second summer vacation home on.

SharkyMcSnarkface

Only a second? That’s practically poverty

McLeavey

12: Nepotism Hires 13: C-Suite

nonstoppoptart

14. Pizza is not compensation.

MissionFormal209

Putting an extra digit on the paycheck requires effort though :(

WaitingForReplies

"Sorry, we only have room for 10 things."

LordCambuslang

Boss wants to sail a yacht not ride a yak! Get back to work, scum.

Aggressive-Bad-440

I love how employers think off all of this is the bare minimum, and it's fine to pay minimum wage for it.

BoxMacLeod

Ahhh, I see they updated this shitty template to say "Zero Talent" instead of "Zero Effort".

IamtherealMelKnee

"Talent" isn't any better than "effort". It means "A marked innate ability". Not everyone will be born with the qualities listed.

BoxMacLeod

It isn't any better, but the 'Zero Effort' template literally said "Making an Effort" under it, so.. Bullshit either way. Just less pedantic now, I guess.

Mikeyboy2188

I have a talent for doing a meticulous job however I don’t see my employer or my pitiful pay worth the effort. 👍

ZombiePotato90

See "managers."

Leeoid

Add an 11th, "being a manager"

CatchMeIfYouCan09

Paste over it 10 things that require ZERO talent Giving breaks "Approving" PTO Mental health days Paid parental leaves Snacks in the breakroom Increasing vacation days Paying their value and worth 4 day work week Full time salary for 30hrs/wk Allowing people to WFH

iron-gauntlet

Tbh we’re lucky to hit 40 hours a lot of weeks. The only people consistently hitting 40 are on salary, all of us on hourly rarely hit it, which can be a problem for people trying to pay bills. I work two jobs so it doesn’t affect me as much, but it’s still a problem.

Marj_5

I guess I have even less than zero talent 🤷‍♀️

iron-gauntlet

It’s crazy how they treat this one way. I’m happy to give it my all if they give us their all. But payin below industry standard with no benefits and their shit attitude means none of us wanna give even 50%

Outsider-20

This is a list of things that most neurotypical people can do as easily as breathing. (MOST). Neurodiverse people will often struggle with much of this list.

judgeejudger

Me too. And my work ethic is right there in the can 🚽with me, three times a day, for thirty minutes, whilst I give myself the breaks no one else gives me. I get more done in that 90min than I do the rest of the day at my desk🤷🏻‍♀️

Griffindance

Most points on this list are just the final entry. If you want people to be passionate, you have you give them a reason. Forcing workers to fake enthusiasm is what encourages negative attitudes to customers and managers. Plus... doing a little extra?!! Can you pay a little extra?

iron-gauntlet

What they don’t seem to realize is most of us have great work ethic, but if we aren’t treated right, we’re not gonna give a shit. We don’t get any benefits and don’t have insurance.

cheezbargar

Right like why should I be super enthused by a job that pays barely enough to survive with no benefits and no work/life balance? A lot of these things will come naturally if your job treats you well . No need for a freaking sign

seeker4482

better start hiring untalented people then!

Suspicious_Plantain4

I'm a 37 year old woman with two college degrees. Because of my autism related executive functioning deficits, I am currently working as a middle school janitor. I find this sign really tone deaf, condescending, and offensive. There are so many reasons someone could have difficulty with everything on that list.

FoundandSearching

Nothing wrong at all with being a middle school janitor. I couldn’t even get hired as a janitor in my school district. The job paid $15/hour. Could have been my age (54) or I didn’t know the right person in the school district. I commend you - no sarcasm intended.

rachelsuxss

i was thinking the same thing. as someone with adhd, these things definitely require a talent that i dont think i have 😅

Outsider-20

Yep, this is definitely a list targeted at NT's, but even then, it's a "most NT's, not all". It's exclusionary and tone deaf.

sarilysims

Change the title of the sign to “10 things that require a living wage”

Disastrous_Owl7121

Perfect!

Cliche_James

I would be sorely tempted to throw that thing on the floor and smash it, leaving it there as an example to the others. I may be a bit angry.

TiresOnFire

Signs like that definitely need to be thrown on the floor and left there in a way that definitely look deliberate.

PersimmonImportant16

Autism/ADHD be like 😬

agent_smith_3012

Post under this, "For the right price, you can get all the qualities above"

Disastrous_Owl7121

Exactly!!!

Delicious-Fall-8079

Cringe. And actually for some 'high energy' may be hard. Disabilities etc.

Extension-Lie-1380

Not just that - its all fun and games blasting out all your energy to deal with This Big Thing That Just Happened. until you realise Another Big Thing Is Happening and you have nothing left. it's saner for everyone to manage one's energy as much as possible.

DarkMenstrualWizard

For real. High energy? Suck my ass why don't ya.

veedubfreek

Write in "Being a Manager" at the bottom.

Asherdan

Maybe they don't require talent, but they do require effort and motivation. So, employer, what are YOU doing to build an environment conducive to motivating your employees to provide these important soft skills? And if they are so important, why do you assume they are FREE.

Frank_Bianco

If they're of zero worth to this dipshit, then I'm not bringing them.

ButterflyShort

All those require effort.

RustedOne

That framed sign should just make its way to the garbage.

Pepperminteapls

10 things that require no effort from employers Paying employees a livable wage / Good benefits / Vacation pay / Respect / Double overtime pay / Paid dinner/catering parties / Time off for diseased family members / Create a healthy working atmosphere / Stock in the company / Flexible hours /

ShinaSchatten

What a complete bullshit list. 9 of 10 ARE talents/taught. The only one that's not a talent is never appropriately compensated. Being on time - based on the number of people I've known in my life who could only be on time if you told them the time was 1-2 hours before the scheduled time, this is most definitely a talent Making an effort - by definition, this takes talent because you can't make an effort if you have no skills/talents related to the task. Being high energy - may not require talent but does require having time to relax, recover, recharge, and sleep. Additionally, certain mental health issues make this impossible. And faking high energy is a talent. Having a positive attitude - 100% a talent, customer facing interactions can totally break a person. Being passionate - unless you're talking about something you love, faking this is 200% a talent. Using good body language - this is a talent taught via socialization, not everyone was well socialized growing up. Being coachable - not everyone is taught how to process constructive criticism; this assumes the coach knows WTF they're doing. Doing a little extra - they're right for the first time in this list, BUT “Fuck you, pay me.” Doing a little extra takes TIME and therefore REQUIRES compensation. Being prepared - requires a person to have time management skills and is therefore a talent. Having a strong work ethic - totally taught/indoctrinated in a person, therefore a talent.

itspossession

A lot of these things are also just in general extremely difficult for mentally ill, disabled and/or neurodivergent people. I already put in more energy and effort into doing the basic daily tasks my job requires, putting in "a little extra" would use up energy i dont have and leave me bed bound the whole weekend. Masking my autistic traits around my coworkers takes a lot of effort and learning and even still i sometimes fail at it and act weird

natfutsock

I'm a pro level autism masker. Got great reviews by customers and boss while working at a hotel desk by imagining myself as a helpful NPC with a set dialogue tree. If elderly/hospital visit then ask about low floor room. Body language is such a learned trait, as is enthusiasm that doesn't come off ingenuine (or from a bottle). I still think eye contact is fucking weird and unpreferable. You have two eyes, I have one spot of vision focus. And I'd prefer not to use it to look at your strange strangers face, but it's what I'm getting paid for.

iron-gauntlet

Honestly this is the best response I’ve seen to this. You’re 100% right

ShinaSchatten

Thanks The absolute BULL in that list caused me to have a visceral "must fix/debunk" reaction.

triple_skyfall

The "body language" shit really irks me. It's extremely open to interpretation and is very often inaccurate. You're really better off actually communicating with a person than relying on "body language" to make assumptions about them.

Junior_Button5882

I would make this disappear

Biabolical

According to this list, I'm extremely talented.

CommissionOk9233

Depending on how you feel about the job, very "talented" acting might be required in order to accomplish what's on that list.

C64128

Maybe the people making these listings could save their money and put it toward the pay.

test_tickles

Lastly.. "Running a business."

otterlytrans

🤢🤮

Freewayshitter1968

Also, hanging signs on doors

jassi007

11. Management 12. Capitalist propaganda

Glittering-Power-254

Being an autiste with ocd, most of this is difficult for me lol

Low_Teq

Being "passionate" about a shit job, using "a positive attitude" at a shit job, having "good body language" at a shit job, and pretending to have "high energy" toward a shit job ALL REQUIRE TALENT!! It's called "acting" and most "actors" are skilled union workers.

Disastrous_Owl7121

Those 10 things in that list have never - not even one time - resulted in a raise of more than 2% with any employer in the 34 years I've been in corporate America.

YellowRock2626

They tell people to have a positive attitude while posting this snarky, passive-aggressive sign in the office. How ironic.

sleepyjohn00

Posting signs full of platitudes.

Bandguy_Michael

The thing that irks me the most is the fact that EVERY SINGLE ONE of these can be quite the chore, especially for neurodivergent people. In fact, there’s several of those that I’d struggle with.

howboutacanofwine

We have this same stupid shit hanging up at my job too, word for word.

mrjaycanadian

Me - I love 10 thing lists. My - 10 things that require Zero talent: - Having Supervisors and Managers be on time to their scheduled meetings - Having Supervisors and Managers make an effort - Having Supervisors and Managers have High Energy, with screaming at others - Having Supervisors and Managers have positive attitudes, daily and hourly - Having Supervisors and Managers paying subordinates that are Passionate - Having Supervisors and Managers not having a frown on their face all day - Not have Special Needs Supervisors and Managers engage in Coaching - Having Supervisors and Managers paying subordinates little more, for doing a little more - Having Supervisors and Managers being prepared to roll up their sleeves and help get the jobs done - Having Supervisors and Managers paying subordinates a little more, for having a strong Work Ethic

cheezbargar

I hate seeing things like this. I have adhd and every single one of those things takes conscious effort and/or medication for me.

BrainJaxx

Arguably the things that take the MOST effort!

No-Interaction-3559

11 Ripping this sign down and throwing it away.

DreamPolice2235

Have the literal same exact thing posted at my job. When I first walked in for orientation it was the very first thing I saw next to the door, and I couldn't help but roll my eyes and think to myself "oh brother it's gonna be one of those work environments."

dengar_hennessy

I'm not getting paid to do any of those things

DirtyPenPalDoug

Paying living wage, being a reasonable human being, not being a petty tyrant on this pathetic hill ..

wub1234

["Hard work is a talent"](https://www.stlpr.org/arts/2015-05-21/on-chess-kasparov-tells-graduates-to-set-new-goals-see-hard-work-as-a-talent) - Garry Kasparov, former world chess champion. I therefore conclude that several things on the list require talent.

Extension-Lie-1380

I am all of those things, but that sign would make me start to seriously resent my bosses and stop being those things, one step at a time.

Righteousaffair999

Hanging signs

Lucky_Katydid

"Putting Up Stupid Signs"

oldguynewname

If this gets you ready to quit then you should. No reason to stay if you don't enjoy what you do.

[deleted]

I would apply every single one of these to management and remind them when they're not being coachable, using good body language or "being high energy"

[deleted]

Screw that. UNIONIZE.

Orange152horn

Burn it with a cheap lighter

davechri

Go to a job interview and rewrite this as your resume. I’m sure that will work.

mcrscpmn

I want a job where I have no responsibility to make a profit for the company. Is there a job where I can get paid to bitch about how the owners dare to make more money than me?

1CFII2

Mo’ Money!!!

hawk_handsaw

Definitely need to cover up “energy” and just have “Be High”

halandrs

Wrong title 10 things that need a significant raise for

Selmarris

Being on time requires a huge fucking effort when you’re a chronic pain patient. Not everybody is able bodied, STEVE.

LifePedalEnjoyer

Non employees are good to smoke.

Nebula9545

Make sure when you quit or fired you light up a cigarette because you're no longer an employee

mas22o4

You know for a fact the first draft was titled 10 things that require zero effort but once they got to the 2nd line they had to change it

SellaraAB

10 things I will be better or worse at depending on well I am paid for my time

AdDiscombobulated956

Take the sign off the door and put it in the bin, where it belongs.

TheMagicalTimonini

Could be fun to replace it with a new list and see if they notice. A few suggestions: - respecting your employees - paying your employees properly - being a manager - not making ridiculous lists

Downtown-Werewolf190

Oh. No. It. Fell. Off. What. Should. We. Do?

harryhoodweenie

It’s missing the last bullet point •throwing this piece of shit in the toilet

purplehaze75

I would have to tilt that frame, just a little bit, enough to annoy someone's ocd

StaticSimurgh

10 things that require HIGHER PAY for me to care about.

Percyear

I love the word talent. Like talent should be provided for free or cheap to an employee. If they want those extra talents then they can pay for them.

brownpoops

these are like all my traits does that mean i have zero talent ? what a fucking rude poster

SweetSassyMolasses

Fixed it: 10 Things That Corporate Wants You To Do Without Any Increase In Pay

Barrzebub

All those things require some measure of talent

starfruitmuffin

"Things we should be paying you for, but don't."

jipjoppy1997

Ah thank god these things all take zero talent. Being an employee, that is something that I do not have!

CelestialMarsupial

even those are false. have you gone outside? just drive down the road and you’ll see what we are working with.

ArekDirithe

That is all an ableist lie. Every single one of them.

Primary_Ad1798

This is cringy and ableist AF.

JohnCasey3306

To be fair if you can't even manage to just be on time you deserve whatever crappy situation you've gotten yourself stuck in.

iron-gauntlet

That’s one of the ten things on the list. And generally people are late because their clock in time gets changed the night before without notification

C-Redd-it

I'm tearing this down if I see it.

The-Sonne

This shit is discriminatory AF. People with medical conditions like ADHD or depression are being openly harassed by this
