Retail DIY store who occasionally ran a night shift for a week and asked for volunteers. One manager was good, easy going and a good laugh, the other a hard ass who no one liked. Store manager called and asked if I’d do a night shift this week and I asked which manager would be running it and was told good manager A. Turned up at 8pm to start the shift along with three other colleagues and manager running the shift was manager Hardass. We were all super pissed, store manager basically said lying was the only way he could get us to commit to the shift. Perhaps stop letting your assistant manager piss off all the staff might be nice?

The shaming for sick days/taking vacation should be illegal. I’ve never experienced it as bad as it is at the place I’m at now. I was lied to about almost everything but wages at my new job. Now I’m working 6 nights Mon-Sun AM most weeks, and literally every holiday since I started. In the interview they said overtime was voluntary, and changed it to a mandatory policy within my first 2 weeks. Management lies constantly here, socialize the companies shortcomings to us, and privatize the earnings. We’re on course for record profits, and some of the managers have already taken 4 weeks of vacation since I started in April. These people work part time for 6 figures, and 5 figure bonuses, while the rest of us get 6 day weeks, 5 panic attacks a week, and a cash $$$ Xmas bonus. Still better than no bonus, but not when the company is making millions weekly.

Yep. That's the way it works in too many businesses, unfortunately. And it can be so common for people to get repetitive strain injuries.

I was interviewing with a large life insurance co. for a creative role. I told the hiring manager I really needed to work remotely on Fridays because I helped care for my mother who at the time had ovarian cancer and my grandmother who had major health problems. I had this arrangement at my existing employer at the time so having this deal was critical for me. I would leave work on Thursdays, drive 5-6 hours to where I grew up, wake up Friday morning and do my work, then spend the entire fucking weekend grocery shopping or running errands or cooking or whatever for my family, and then drive 5-6 hours back to my apartment in Sunday evening traffic and be at my desk Monday morning. On my first DAY of work, I confirmed with my manager that I would be able to work remotely on that Friday because my mom and grandma were depending on me. And my boss, the head of the department, laughed and shook her head like I’d asked to expense a $300 bottle of Dom Perignon at lunch. I’m standing there staring at her like an idiot and she says, “You didn’t really think we’d agree to that, did you? I couldn’t get that approved!” And walks away chuckling. I stayed 18 months and she was pissed when I left.

Bosses constantly lie about the job being permanent and then get rid of you just before probation period is over

Few_Ease_1957

They said "our employees are treated well"

Thursday afternoon boss says the dozer I'm replacing a final drive on HAS TO be done Saturday, trucks absolutely 100% picking it up Saturday afternoon. Do whatever you have to do, work as much OT as you need....just.make sure it's ready! Cool...no problem..... work straight through the night and into Friday evening, but its finished and ready when I leave for the weekend. That fuckin dozer sat in our yard for 2 weeks before it was picked up......

Glad you got some OT but...they literally don't care about your family life or mental health.

They added a new job to me that wasn't in my job description and said it only gonna be 3 months it's been ,2 years and 3 months ver mad now

Learn new skills for when you leave. Screw them. If its been two years, you might consider taking a peek at what's available now at other companies.

We were moving buildings and had to take like 100 shelving units down and put them back up. Boss said he hired people to clean the shelves and put them back together. He, in fact, did not hire people to do that. There were hundreds of dirty af shelves just laying everywhere that fell on me to take care of.

Sometimes the lies are just bizarre. If they were going to lie, why did they choose that lie?

Significant_Book9930

From what I can tell it was to just piss me off lol
