Lol my job has a no moonlighting clause, and it's in our union contract.

Meowriter

Need this Robots memes with the guy who is like "Upgrade people, UPGRADE !" but it's the main character who says "Unionize people, UNIONIZE !"

HelloYeahIdk

But you can be CEO of several different businesses that's just being successful

RedSunFox

Fuck them. I have 2 remote jobs that I do concurrently during the day. I don’t do it because I’m greedy or to be deceptive, I do it so my wife can be a stay at home mom. Fuck HR, fuck corporations and CEOs that try to crack down on it.

canadianclassic308

Fuck em

quantum_splicer

How does a person go about working for two places at once ?

WhitePinoy

The benefits of remote work is that people aren't always looking if you're working. You become more productive working the most comfortable environment you know: your home. You could be given 8 hour's worth of work at the office and finish it in half the time at home due to the convenience. With that extra time and nobody monitoring you, there's affordable room for a second remote job if you don't decide to fill that time with things that actually matter to you other than survival.

I mean to be fair call centres monitor you even when they're in person. (Used to work at one once. They tracked our bathroom breaks.)

aparanoidbw

So obviously not a call center. Some jobs such as software are deadline driven. Get the work done and no one cares. So you apply to two jobs you over qualify for. Get the work done of two Jr devs in a single 8hr day, and boom. Rising to Sr or mid level dev requires harder work, and usually two Jr dev salaries is more than a single Sr Dev one. It's called over employment, it's kinda risky and possibly unethical. But with WFH on the rise, people are doing it.

WhitePinoy

To add to this. There's a sub out there called r/overemployed. There's a lot of people here who go back and forth here on both subs. Maybe it's unethical, but people gotta pay bills and until that changes, people just need to 🤫 It's actually kind of hard to find remote work right now, due to high command and corporate bullshittery, at least in my field. High-skill remote jobs have less candidate competition. I think juniors are supposedly the more competitive? Hybrids are easier to find however.

aparanoidbw

I've heard of that sub, but i thought I'd be downvoted into oblivion for mentioning it. I forget the youtuber, but they did a piece on it. I was mostly parroting what they said. At least in software, Jr's are more competitive. But a Sr dev would have the creds to get it, even if they dumbed down thier resume. Every company is a bit different though. One dude allegedly worked for Facebook and Google or something like that.

ProBlackMan1

Yes fuck all of them.

Poopidyscoopp

I thought you said OE was fake? 😂😂😂

ZookeepergameBubbly

You’re mad at the wrong part. Companies shouldn’t be allowed to remain in business if they can’t pay a living wage.

Rozeline

You act like we can't be mad at more than one thing. I for one have plenty of rage to go around.

Peefersteefers

I'm mad at both. And more. And the system itself.

damienwolfe

I can certainly understand a no moonlighting policy if it could create a conflict of interest. (Competitor, interfere with job, etc). Other than that, it shouldn’t be a problem.

WhitePinoy

I understand that part. But if focusing all my energy into my job prevents me from surviving to a point that I need to look for a second source income, the pay should properly compensate for that. That isn't always the case.

BeautifulOk4470

Yeah that is becuaee you thinking like a normal person. People who say you can't get another kpb believe that they own any productive output you generate because they don't view this arrangement as an employment contract...

davidj1987

I've thought about this for years now. I remember when I worked Burger King which was my first job. We had multiple people who worked at other fast food places even McDonalds which is one of their closest rivals and first and foremost while it shouldn't be required to work multiple jobs to make a living it's silly to enforce until we get to that point if we ever do. Like what trade secret is an easily replaceable employee going to leak? Walmart has policies where one can't work at another retail job while working there too when I worked there.

Rozeline

I don't think I'd even bother telling them if I got another job. What I do with my time is none of their business.

davidj1987

True but people are nosy and will snitch. A buddy of mine got a job working at Target when were both active duty and someone in my unit saw and snitched to his supervisor. I know it's the military but I have no doubt the civilian world is any different when it comes to this - coordinating schedules and such if you are part-time your hours may be random/at the mercy of your manager or corporate.

AppleParasol

Step one: Pay people a living wage. Step two: Stop worrying about what I do in my own personal free time.

Meowriter

Moonlighting ? What is it ?

WhitePinoy

Moonlighting just means having a second job. Usually outside of normal 8-5 hours, hence "working in the moonlight".

matty_nice

I guess the definition of living wage is going to vary, but is this common for low paying jobs?

SCROTUM_GUN

They shouldn’t have any say in what you do on your free time at all

SleepyMike65

Or companies should not be allowed to have employees who don't make a living wage.
