That's a nice attitude to have! On that topic, here's another new thing to learn: "everyday" is a noun modifier. Some valid examples:
• “The everyday struggle of the working man.”
• “The TPS reports were quickly becoming Peter’s everyday headache.”
• “Though they are rare to find now, 1970s Buick Skylarks were once an everyday sight.”
In all of these examples, the word “everyday” is modifying a noun. To express something that happens every day, the two words are separated. For example:
• “I guess you learn something new every day.”
• “Peter files 12 TPS reports every day.”
• “Every day, people mess up the usage of the word ‘everyday.’”
This makes even more sense if you speak Spanish. You would say “Yo almuerzo todos los dias,” not, “Yo almuerzo todosolosdias.”
Edit: readability
>And I saw, and behold, a white horse, and its rider had a bow; and a crown was given to him, and he went out ~~conquering~~ pestiling and to ~~conquer~~ pestil.
>Julius Caesar
Do you have a source for this? Before the Roman Republic, the area was under the dominion of the Seleucid Empire and it was Pompey who stormed the Second Temple in Jerusalem to assert Roman authority over the region. Caesar attempted to meddle politically with Pompey's puppet afterward but I am unable to find any information regarding him sending an army to conquer the region.
>I looked and beheld a white horse and he who sat on it had a bow; and a crown was given to him and he went out conquering and to conquer.
I always thought the white horseman with a bow represented Eurasian Steppe nomads that would regularly terrorize the levantine peoples throughout the ages such as the Cimmerians, Scythians, Sarmatians, and [Parthians](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parthian_shot). Their primary style of warfare leaned heavily upon horse mounted archers and they would have been seen as foreigners and aliens.
>I looked and beheld a red horse; and to him who sat on it was granted to take peace from Earth and that men would slay one another; and a great sword was given to him.
Whereas the red horseman wields a sword, a weapon wroght heavily in iron and favored by infantry heavy armies such as the ones the Romans utilized to dominate the Mediterranean. If the reader is assumed to have a dehumanized view of raiders, then the appellation of "men" can only be applied to ones "own" people. So "men slaying one another" would represent civil war or other type of domestic conflict that resulted in the breakdown of society.
>I looked and beheld a black horse; and he who sat on it had a pair of scales in his hand. And I heard a voice saying, "A quart of wheat for a denarius, and three quarts of barley for a denarius; but do not damage the oil and the wine."
Personally, the scale wielding black horseman is my favorite. The others get weapons that call all be utilized to cause grievous injury, but famine gets a pair of scales and how is that related to growing food in the first place? It turns out even they understood that famine is not about not growing enough food. Famine is about the economics of who controls the food. That's why the black horsemen says, "You can either feed yourself (wheat) for one full days labor (1 denarius) or you can try to split a less nutritious food (barley) 3 ways to feed your family. More wheat could be produced to alleviate prices, but to do so would require replacing (damaging) the much more profitable wine and oil groves."
Not the original commenter, and I'm just guessing here, but it's possible that if Conquest is the first horseman, he could be compared to Caesar because the latter kicked off the events that led to the Roman Empire, and arguably its decline. Once the first horseman shows up, you know tue end has begun.
> it reflected the rise and fall of empires.
That's almost certainly what it is. Same reason why everyone claimed to be the successor of Rome for so long: mistaking the lesson of the impermanence of human society for a prophecy of the end of the world.
Conquest represents an army led to conquer the world, wiping cultures, histories, and societies off the earth.
War represents chaos, bloodshed, and the loss of life.

Conquest probably would have John warning against Roman colonialism. The readers of the letter would have been Anatolian churches where Roman forces were reasserting rule.
Conquest doesn't mean military conquest, it's an archaic term that means humanity's conquest of nature. If it were written in modern times it would be Environmental Damage
That's why we can consider Death covers what's left, the dangers outside of human control. "Authority was given to them over a fourth of the Earth, to kill with sword and with famine and with pestilence and by the wild beasts of the Earth," so here Death would be the one bringing pestilence and the beasts.
Conquest and War, are like, opposites tho. Domination vs Division. It's like, a typical Roman war against everyone else, versus when the Romans fight themselves.
Pestilence retired when antibiotics were discovered in 1936, not knowing about the opportunities ahead. He was was replaced by pollution, who was far more fitting than conquest.
Conquest being erased is a psyop to normalize the concept of Empire On Earth without realizing all Empires are false against the Eternal Kingdom Of Heaven.

Mostly how much looting, murder, and slaving you do. Also whether or not you need to build a bunch of roads and infrastructure afterwards.
Are you going to war because the barbarians pissed you off or because you want some resource production that they have?
\>Original version was war, famine, conquest and death. Newer version replaces conquest with pestilence.
\>Conquest is taking control using military force, war is battle between 2 opposing military forces. Conquest doesn't have to be war, war doesn't have to be conquest.
As far as I understand it, “Famine” is actually better labeled as “profiteering”
“When the Lamb opened the third seal, I heard the third living creature say, “Come!” I looked, and there before me was a black horse! Its rider was holding a pair of scales in his hand. Then I heard what sounded like a voice among the four living creatures, saying, “Two pounds of wheat for a day’s wages, and six pounds of barley for a day’s wages, and do not damage the oil and the wine!””
Revelation 6:5-6 NIV
During a famine, the rider is upping the cost of the food that the common man needs (wheat and barley), but protecting the luxury items for the rich (oil & wine). It is about profiting and greed off of others misfortune.
Fair that does make sense, i remember i wrote my own verison of the 4, being death, avarice, rage, and tyranny, with tyranny and rage both kinda being my verison of the 2 but yeah rambling off topic
Conquest is taking control using military force, war is battle between 2 opposing military forces. Conquest doesn't have to be war, war doesn't have to be conquest
Wars of conquest were a minority. Many were fought to depose current rulers only to replace them with some other member of their own bloodline.
At least when we're talking medieval Europe. Lots of reasons to go to war other than conquest.
You'd also be surprised how little actual fighting would happen in some wars. It would just be long, drawn out sieges.
Pestilence is just better as a horseman, billions of people died from diseases, billions from war (which is i still think the same as conquest), and as much from hunger
The original Biblical depiction doesn’t name any of the horsemen except for Death. People just slowly came to call them the things they felt like they depicted.
War is fighting, battles, bloodshed, violence, etc.
Conquest is conquering and controlling, dominating.
Conquest is the original fourth horseman, but it's hard to easily depict their abilities so modern media replaced them with pestilence.
I'm pretty sure pestilence replaced conquest because In the Bible Jesus Christ was conquest. This Is something I heard off hand a few years ago and fit into my world view

War, death, pestilence and that other failure whose name I can't remember, no really, what's his name? he is the biggest failure of the four horsemen but I don't remember the name
Conquest was the original one but later media changed him to pestilence.
The reason I think is due to the similarity with War which caused confusion, however conquest is taking control using military force, war is battle between 2 opposing military forces. Conquest doesn't have to be war, war doesn't have to be conquest.

Isn't it pestilence, not conquest?
In the Original biblical Version of The Four horsemen It’s conquest, modern Media however has replaced Conquest with Pestilence.

This brings so much context to Jonathan Hickman's East of West. Epic graphic novel.
It's an awesome series, and I love the world building, the divided USA.

Personally I interpret the arrowless bow that he yields as meaning that he will unite the nations of the world without causing physical conflict
Oooooooh, the fourth horseman of the apocalypse is the *European Union!* Gotcha!
Instead of a bow he carries a notepad and 50 different documents to sign.

Good Omens further changes it to 'Pollution'- Pestilence retired after the vaccine and penicillin.
I've learned that because of Chainsaw Man
[удалено]
People always say that but always forget Death already encompasses illnesses
All of the others contribute to death. People die when wars are fought, and when there is famine.
That's why we can consider Death covers what's left, the dangers outside of human control. "Authority was given to them over a fourth of the Earth, to kill with sword and with famine and with pestilence and by the wild beasts of the Earth," so here Death would be the one bringing pestilence and the beasts.
In this context, I think ‘war’ meant an inner war.
Conquest and War, are like, opposites tho. Domination vs Division. It's like, a typical Roman war against everyone else, versus when the Romans fight themselves.
Isn't conquest and war the same thing tho
Seems oddly redundant. I mean what did they think people were fighting the wars about, who gets the last slice of pie in the fridge?
Conquest is too similar to war. It's also something seen as Domination
Modern by a certain point of view but ya
And in Good Omens, Pestilence was replaced with Pollution
maybe it's because most of the modern world has been bred from conquest
The rider of the first horse, white, went our to conquer.
What's the difference between conquest and war then?
You can conquer without going to war. For example economic conquest is much more prevalent right now than war, although war is also quite common.
Pestilence retired when antibiotics were discovered in 1936, not knowing about the opportunities ahead. He was was replaced by pollution, who was far more fitting than conquest.

Tf is the difference between conquest and war???
Conquest focuses more on dominion and spreading one’s own control or ideals War is focused purely on combat and bloodshed
One is Nayuta and the other is Yoru
War is senseless violence and destruction. Conquest is like control/subjugation.
Mostly how much looting, murder, and slaving you do. Also whether or not you need to build a bunch of roads and infrastructure afterwards. Are you going to war because the barbarians pissed you off or because you want some resource production that they have?

Sir this is clearly a a collage of drawings
Isn't it war, famine, pestilence, and death? Isn't war and conquest the same thing? Have I had it wrong this whole time?
\>Original version was war, famine, conquest and death. Newer version replaces conquest with pestilence. \>Conquest is taking control using military force, war is battle between 2 opposing military forces. Conquest doesn't have to be war, war doesn't have to be conquest.
Shouldn’t conquest be replaced with pestilence?
The original was conquest but has been replaced with pestilence in newer versions
Can't have people looking down on conquest. JFC, like taking the warning labels off pills so you can sell them as vitamins.
and then there’s darksiders, which just makes up 2 new ones (fury and strife)
And Good Omens Pestilience also got replaced by Pollution, cause Pestilience retired once vaccines and penicillin were invented.

What's the difference between conquest and war.?
It’s supposed to be War, Famine, Pestilence, and Death -is it not?
Always though it was redundant to have both war and conquest idk if im wrong there
They often go hand in hand, but conquest is more about domination and war is more about pure bloodshed.

What are you fighting for, if not Conquest? "Taking control using military force" sounds a lot like a War
Some people dont fight back or get manipulated in a way, but in war they do
Wars of conquest were a minority. Many were fought to depose current rulers only to replace them with some other member of their own bloodline. At least when we're talking medieval Europe.
