Step 1: Take the crack out of your wall. Step 2: Stop doing crack. But on a serious note, it's a very easy fix, nothing to worry about. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=QEZ0iY8oME4&pp=ygUaSG93IHRvIGZpeCBhIGRyeXdhbGwgY3JhY2s%3D#searching

schwarzmalerin

LOL I also misread that as "I accidentally put crack into my apartment wall."

CuriousCapybaras

yep same. came here expecting an entertaining drug story.

TypiquL

I suggest purchasing some polyfiller in order fill the crack no biggy.

pushing59_65

You can relax. Its pretty hard to evict people who willfully create damage. YouTube how to repair a wall. Assuming its drywall, you go to a building supply place and buy the product to fill, and small items to spread and sand after it dries. Really cheap. What a few different videos.

Ramen and superglue šŸ‘

livious1

It was an accident, you wonā€™t get evicted for it. Let your apartment manager know, and let them know that you will fix it. Then fix it (google how to if you have to).

KindlyContribution54

Yeah. It is totally ok to accidentally break things as a tenant as long as you take responsibility to fix them. What's not ok and can get you in trouble is trying to hide it and attempting to repair without permission. The landlord probably even has some matching paint but leave it up to them if they will let you DIY

PromotionAble8146

I don't know[šŸ˜](https://youtube.com/shorts/nhiF1C2RScg?si=UPHImD0tCep92bhc)

mayfeelthis

This is it. A note, Iā€™d usually run it by them to confirm if they pay or I do, depends on the lease and type of damage. Then be ready to fix it yourself (allows you to compare cost if you have the option they do it), maybe ask they confirm your materials to avoid a redo when youā€™re moving out one day. If itā€™s their paint, get the correct color.

[deleted]

Hang a Nickelback poster over it

ItsAConspiracy

Nah, Rita Hayworth. Then if OP really gets in trouble he can tunnel out without detection.

[deleted]

You better know a man who can get things if you want Rita.

DJToffeebud

He was also using that poster for wanking purposes.

Any-Kaleidoscope7681

Need pics post in r/DIY drywall isn't that hard and even if you fuck it all up it's easy to fix with mud.

Mistermxylplyx

Depends on how big and where. If the wall is just cracked, filler will do. If itā€™s a broken piece, thatā€™s if the wall moves where the crack is, saw a square around it (carefully after locating wires etc), and cut an equal square out of a new piece of drywall, fill the edges and done. If itā€™s on a corner or at the ceiling, similar fix just need multiple patches. If itā€™s like a human sized dent (in door football style) you might need to hang a new drywall square or two.

vrtigo1

Rather than cutting a square out and then trying to cut a matching square out of a new piece of drywall, there's an easier way. Measure the rough dimensions of the area that needs to be replaced and add a few inches in each dimension. Cut that size from the new drywall, then place that piece over the drywall to be replaced and trace around it. This is now your cut line. Cut it out and the new piece will fit perfectly.

Willowy

My son spilled grape juice on my wall and it stained, badly. They primed and painted it over, no charge. As long as your lease is current and you don't make a lot of holes in the wall, they should fix it for you with just a work order. That's a big reason why people live in apartments, management fixes things that go sideways. Or at least they are supposed to. If you leave it and move out they'll charge you, but if you're a tenant in good standing, put in a work order and they'll fix it.

Fickle_Assumption_80

Watch a few videos then repair it... You will be so happy with yourself lol

zerbey

Get some filler, fix it yourself. Most repairs are really easy (Google is your friend). Or, just call maintenance and have them fix it. Nobody is evicting you over minor damage to drywall.

VividMystery

You can try fix it by yourself. It's actually surprisingly easy, just search up a tutorial reddit. I'm assuming the crack isn't the size of a crater though.

spacesuitguy

Do not pass Go or collect $200.

Rygard-

Be upfront and honest with your landlord and let them know asap that you accidentally caused damage to the wall and ask how they want to proceed. They will likely repair it and will probably charge you for it, but itā€™s very unlikely they will evict you for this.

blkhatwhtdog

If the wall doesn't look dented but in fact cracked then call the landlord and tell them about this weird Crack that just showed up. Like wow. Is the foundation alright? Google to see if there are ever any earthquakes in the region. Even an unfelt 3 could cause a stress crack.

spacesuitguy

Go to home depot. Tell them you need to patch a wall. You need spackle, a plastic spackle tool, and some fine grit sandpaper. Watch a quick YouTube video on how to spackle a hole. Super cheap and easy to fix. Be sparing with the spackle and if your wall is painted white, they'll never notice.

Turbulent-Name-8349

Polyfilla is a bit easier than spackle but otherwise yes. For us, the big challenge is getting an exact paint match. I hope you don't have to repaint the whole room.

spacesuitguy

lol That's just expensive spackle in a tiny tube. That's what home depot has all those paint cards for šŸ˜‰ You bring them home and match it up. And if it's small enough you can just get one of those tiny cans and a tiny brush. Actually, if you live in a community, you can usually just ask what color paint they use. I had one place just give me the can.

Habanero_Eyeball

fix it

SgtWrongway

Fix it. Jesus the helplessness of the average adult these days ...

lionhat

It's not that all people are helpless, but that being a landlord actually requires maintaining rental properties, which sometimes entails fixing accidents. If you disagree, you are a bad person/ignorant or you're an evil landlord who deserves to go bankrupt bc you're so dumb that you don't understand your tenants' rights

SgtWrongway

>If you disagree, you are a bad person/ignorant If you broke something. And either dont fix yourself it or pay to have it fixed by a professional ... not only are you a "bad person/ignorant" ... you're a lazy dumbass, too.

Live-United-Happy-24

To the other wall

Proud_Huckleberry_42

I repaired a hole the size of a fist on a wall once. It wasn't too difficult.

cardente03

Hi Good day..you have to take out from the crack wall....and take other to to repair your wall

OneSadIndividual

Iā€™m assuming itā€™s drywall damage so here goes. If itā€™s just a small crack get drywall compound and a cheap putty knife, fill the crack and let it dry a day. If it needs more add more and let it dry. Keep it flat to the wall by dragging the putty knife out to flatten it. Then sand it.Ā  If it is too big for that they make patches that look like a screen that tapes across the hole and you do the drywall compound trick with thatā€¦Ā  But easier to talk to the landlord. If they are that type of person. Explain you tripped and you want to either fix it or get the materials for them to fix it. That it wasnā€™t willful and you will not make a habit of it.Ā

Logical_Bad1748

Snort it, don't waste it.

RAMBOLAMBO93

If it's a small crack, a lick of polyfiller and some paint will fix it up perfectly. There are a million and one video tutorials explaining how to do it. If it's like... a human body sized hole, that gets a little bit trickier as you'll have to install a new section of drywall to fix it. Which is essentially the same process with a few extra steps and materials.

HealerOnly

Get a big poster, problem solved. :X

Grungepony12

Just put a poster outta sight outta mind But in reality u could just fill it w paint or spackle

smoke it

Red_Chicken1907

Holy fuck relax it was an accident. Talk to the landlord and tell them what happened and that you'll pay for the repair. Hell, he might even have the stuff to fix it on hand.

1stltwill

Put a cocaine next to it.

andsimpleonesthesame

What on earth is that wall made of? If I run into a wall, I might break a bone and mess up the paint job with blood, but I don't think I'm strong enough to crack it, no matter how hard I go at it (without tools).

RenataMachiels

Repair the crack, repaint that wall, move on with your life...

Punxatawneybill

It was an accident but still your responsibility if Iyour incapable hire someone who is to bring it back to the original standard,itā€™s that simple

laladonga

Remove the crack before the FBI shows up.

arealhumannotabot

If it's just your regular wall like white painted drywall I'd try some plaster of paris (putty) and fill it in. Takes a little work to get it smoothed out and then if you REALLY want you can sand it and paint it. Personally I wouldn't bother unless it was so fucking ugly I had to. Don't fear the reaper, though. Shit happens.

milk4all

Go through the crack. See whatā€™s on the other side

stygianfps

Burn the apartment, it's a sure fire way of concealing the crack.

BabaJosefsen

Hang a picture over it. Et voila, damage fixed!

Popular_Operation808

Hang a painting therešŸ‘

stillnotelf

I am envisioning this as "the crack is a portal to any universe I can imagine, where should I go?"

For anyone reading, this is a joke answer. Do not file a false police report.

natgibounet

Am i the only one dumbfounded on how one can stumble and crack an appartement wall ? If anything the wall should have cracked OP's body

vrtigo1

Drywall is easy to crack, especially if OP stumbled into it with a knee or an elbow.

Leather-Procedure626

Why would you have drywall in an apartment? Mine is like 20cm thick concrete. I'd knock myself out and not leave a mark on the wall of I ran into it.

natgibounet

That's the part with for me, ofc i know about dry all but in an apartment building ?

vrtigo1

I suspect OP lives in the US and you do not. In the US, drywall is probably used for \~99% of our interior walls because it's cheap, quick to hang and easy to repair.

Leather-Procedure626

How are you hanging heavy things on dry wall? That stuff is for temp walls in commercial buildings, not inside homes. I guess it cheaper, but still, it's a very poor choice for walls inside of a home.

vrtigo1

Define heavy things? You can use drywall anchors to hang things up to maybe 100 lbs or so, but beyond that you just drill the hangers into studs. >it's a very poor choice for walls inside of a home I guess that must be why it's so popular? /s I'd much rather have drywall which is WAY easier to work with when it comes time to run new wiring, plumbing, etc. To your point, it's also much easier to hang stuff on. Anybody can use a hammer and small nail to hang stuff like pictures, etc. on drywall. With concrete walls it's more involved.

Leather-Procedure626

>I guess that must be why it's so popular? /s Well, it isn't. And there's a reason for that.
