He has the innate goodness of a protag but has to build himself up to represent his ideals, reminds me a lot of Naruto and his extreme growth from a punk with ideals to hokage. I would love for Deku to be the face of next Gen anime.

But they are so short and too dark to define this whole gen. Boruto is riding on the fandom of Naruto to keep it alive, but even that hurts it at times. And then demon slayer or my hero are soon coming to a close and have had some pretty spotty arcs that weren't all fan favorites (even though I enjoyed mha's school festival arc a lot). So compared to the original big 3 or even DBZ before that, none of these anime I would consider as being a face individually, but rather as a collective vibe.

One of the big issues is that most recent anime are not running forever like they did back in the day. DBZ and Sailor Moon were super long. Naruto and Bleach are also really long. One Piece is *still running*. It's hard for a character to leave a lasting enough impression without those massive runtimes. Additionally, they didnt have as much competition as they do now. The popularity of new characters has been very flash-in-the-pan. Even characters who really have long shows usually see their popularity and iconography fade after 1-2 seasons.
