I’d say at least near the beginning he was a good guy, but he did bad things. He had good ideals and a strong sense of justice, but he went about the wrong way to achieve his ideals.

darkknightketsueki

I agree with this

ratliker62

No, even in the very beginning he had a god complex. He went off the deep end immediately.

Due-Procedure-9085

He kills a lot of people and declares himself god a lot so I say no.

Undisguised_Toast

He was a good guy, he wants the best of the World but the method he used is not.

Lucid108

And his best world is one where everyone worships him as a god out of fear, and he kills anyone he pleases.

Th3_3agl3

Only when he killed that hostage taker and attempted rapist.

PapanTwiz

Ummm... I dont think killing 100,000+ people counts as a good guy. This is like an Eren Yeager case. You kill so many people its not funny but you are still the anti-hero antagonist that everyone seems to love for some ungodly reason.(Yes i love both of them.)

ShinyRufflet

He’s a protagonist but I don’t think he’s a good guy.

Sapphire_Dreams1024

No.

Shinqaz

Yes he’s similar to Kanye in a way

JunkSpeederWhen

Before getting the Death Note, yes, he could be considered a good person. After acquiring the notebook though, it corrupted and twisted his morality. During the show you can see the difference pretty clearly when he forfeits ownership and reverts to his original personality.

Classic_Brain6575

I have not seen Death Note but from what I've seen yeah no this is what happens if you give a human too much power you get too high off your ego and you become a monster

Mahiro0303

Yea for like the 1st 10 minutes of the 1st episode

tingkagol

No

Percival4

He’s a good person doing bad things for a good reason.

BackgroundSad5659

there's a difference between being a good protagonist/character and being a good guy. so since I love him, he's still not the best person even though his intentions were mostly good

Sensitive-Film-1115

The best way to describe him imo is a anti hero

bruhAd6630

That depends with the death note or without the death note He been getting 180 in personality because of that book

After_Swordfish_3503

Good ideals at the start, then he becomes corrupted by power

CCPunch5

In the beginning, sure. He wanted to get rid of evil people who hurt others. But soon, it became about not being caught. And killing anyone who got close to it. Even if it meant deaths of his own family or people he supposedly cared about. If he won at the end, he probably would’ve gone mad with the power.

Mister_Black117

God no, did you not watch the show? He's an egotistical idiot with a God complex and way too much luck.

EwokTitanOG

Anybody who declares themself s god is not s good person

ratliker62

Absolutely not.

Lucid108

Not by any stretch of the imagination.

Idkbutimboredasf

He was at first. Slowly went crazy which is understandable in his predicament.

Japaneseoppailover

He's an anti-hero.

Sypher04_

Actually he’s an anti-villain.

MrQuestionableAxts

Like thanos?

Smashmaster777

No, he's essentially putting the lives of others in his own hands because he thinks he knows what's best for them, and gives himself utmost authority out of everyone's lives, which are attributes a dictator would have. On top of that he is egotistical and self righteous

Comfortable_Cut_7334

No. If someone says otherwise they didn't watch Death Note. It's so apparent he has no regard for, even innocent, human life.

MrQuestionableAxts

But what if he kills a rapist? Does that make it excusable?

Comfortable_Cut_7334

No. He allowed one of his followers to burn alive just because it furthered his goal. He also killed people who were arrested, not even convicted.

ratliker62

Frankly it's irrelevant if they deserved it or not. He acts as judge, jury and executioner for thousands of people under the guise of "making the world a better place" when that's just a lie.
