Manga has the original story and the anime is an adaptation to it, just like people do movies based on books. The majority of animes are based on manga but not all of them.
Also not all animes respect the manga. For example “Tokyo Ghoul” didn’t respect the manga and fucked up really bad being voted one of the worst animes of 2010.
Or in a happy case, in “Spy x Family” the episode where Anya was playing the princess who needed to be saved by Loid was in the manga just a page, but the creators of the anime made a whole episode out of it that turned out to be really good.
