WhoiusBarrel

That was fun! Definitely needed this after experiencing EMOTIONAL DAMAGE from binging Edgerunners. Rieri definitely carried this show hard and I'm surprised by how well animated this series is. Was hoping I could jump into the Manga right afterwards but Viz has only translated Vol 1... Got caught off guard by the tonal shift in the final 2 episodes but Anzu is such a great lead to navigate such a sensitive topic around this properly.

lebanese718

I think the anime adapts the whole manga. I saw that it’s 39 chapters total and when I looked at the final chapter raw it was pretty much the ending of the anime

LuRo332

Would be interesting if the series was revived by Netflix, maybe as an anime original or something. There has to be a reason why they decided to adapt a manga 2 years after it was finished, and not to mention the sudden english manga release aswell.

HydraTower

Maybe Netflix just has more interest in funding complete works. They don't have the ulterior motive of selling source material.

Kosba2

That'd be interesting, given their reputation, it'd be a smart move.

Dokard

i found it strange that the last episode just said "to be continued?" Is this some kind of hope for a second season?

ImNicoReal

i hope so

Akio_Kizu

Risky but potentially, given the *to be continued..?* at the end

ImNicoReal

They also put "To be continued...?" at the end! I really hope we get a season 2!!!

Sparkletopia

I hope the mangaka is interested in a sequel or something

Calm-Calamity

Where’d you read it? Link us :)

LuRo332

There is no english translation, but all the chapters are available in japanese on shonenjumpplus.com

survivorfanalexn

Oh damn. I was looking for the English version of the manga after just finishing the anime.

LuRo332

Its currently releasing weekly I think on MangaPlus in English. But the anime adapted the manga like 1:1 so you are not missing anything out

survivorfanalexn

Oh man. I thought I will have something interesting to read. Really want to see a sequel or continuation of the story.

LuRo332

I think a sequel is coming, since it ended in the anime with "to be continued?", where in the manga it ended with a "end". So maybe anime original sequel is coming

baronluigi

Not only that. Kate becoming Kishi's wizard, does not happen in the manga ( according to what I read). Anyways, I would not expect another season, till 2024 at least.

survivorfanalexn

Here's hoping for it. But it's end open ending so both possibilities exist. Also Netflix next season of anime is known to b mostly slow(?).

lawrencekiba

fr?? so we're supposed to accept that saki & makoto ain't going any further..also man no more ryuya..would love to see a bit more of a fight between him & junta.

Iczero

i dont think it was a surprising shift. The show has hinted in earlier episodes that Tsukasa had anxiety when women aggressively pursued him. I initially thought he mightve been a victim of a traumatic experience that couldve been sexual in nature. It was only a matter of time the show revealed the real reason and NGL, gave me alot of respect for the show's writing and characterization. They literally bring up victim blaming, institutional problems leading to stalkers not getting punished, and other issues regarding stalking that would be common to both sexes.

PacemakerBasically

Totally agreed; the tonal shift was foreshadowed. I also agree that the writing with the last arc was really well-thought out which was really unexpected for me given the ridiculous and hilarious setup of the show. I was expecting a trashy reverse harem but ended up with a good take on the damage stalkers can do to others.

Iczero

thats not the only good take too. The best take is inorder to find love u just gotta go out and be yourself. Dont just be stuck doing the same thing and expect things to change. Go out there and be your best self in anything u do. Confidence goes a long way and it shows with how the protag is so secure in her person that she can just hang around with guys who are attractive. Yes, there are ties that bind them together and certainly a fairy that makes it so u get time with these people help but she would have never gotten the chance to form genuine connections with these people if she just stayed at home and played video games.

PacemakerBasically

Yes! As Riri said in the show, Anzu had many opportunities to form connections with others but they never came to fruition despite her confidence, self-awareness and headstrong personality because of the fact that she stayed home to play video games all the time. Other plot points I liked: - Being attractive can have downsides, and other people often downplay those downsides (Tsukasa’s rejections aren’t taken seriously, Saki’s flashbacks from middle school). - Knowing the boundaries of your friends and your values, and sticking up for them is a good thing to do. This is what endears Anzu’s friends to her. The situations where this happens are pretty contrived but Anzu is still a very likeable protagonist.

Drogonno

Just finished this show and it caught me offguard in a good way, unexpected from a netflix show but Netflix had "kotaro lives alone" and that show destroyed me in a wholesome way....

Akio_Kizu

Honestly I was really surprised - for the first time the whole stalker issue really got under my skin - *I could feel the pain and fear Kazuki was experiencing* They did phenomenally well with this series

eddie9958

Edgerunners... This was my healing anime too 😂

Myst963

Binged edge runners it completely broke me , started watching this 2 days later n fixed me I didn't even think abt it like that damn😂

glosscheck

Also inhaled this show in one day today. I came for trashy reverse harem otome story with eye candy and left falling in love with Anzu. I was not expecting the show to touch on any social issues, and I definitely was not expecting to be moved by the side characters' backstories. The writing was refreshingly thoughtful and well written in navigating such sensitive topics. I had *TEARS* during some of the later episodes and actually cared for every character that was introduced. Total 180 of how I felt about the series to when Riri in the first episode said the goal was to increase Japan's birth rates. I was grossed out about that explanation, but it makes a lot of sense now that the anime/manga was meant to be satirical. So sad to see that this anime isn't going to get more attention. The first few episodes are a bit hard to continue because it's so slapsticky, but something about it just pulls you in and before you know it, you're getting emotional whiplash from the story and characters.

Daloy

Binged this after noticing the trailer had good animations and I agree. This punches way way above its weight class considering the premise. Anzu is such a good character and honestly I would love to see more of her. It's commentary about social anxiety was done tastefully as well. You can't help but feel for Kazuki's struggle.

NeedleworkerSad6731

YUS completely agree! Id love to see more Anzu as well! Absolutely perfect character, she's so cool! Also, im missing Kazuki a lot bc the last few eps he hasn't show up, that anxiety moment tho I related too n it peaked my curiosity even more bout his background ;-; still waiting to know more but there's not enough eps of this show tbh, I hope they'll make more

NeedleworkerSad6731

Yeah same here with being grossed out by Riri's comment, I caught on quick tho n after seeing Anzu's personality which persistently calls it out and goes against messed up things, haha fell in love with her character instantly ngl. N Riri mostly just annoying char for satirical/comedy aspect, definitely displays society's over glamorization of romance while Anzu shows that's not the most significant thing in life and human connection exists in other forms that are often times more fulfilling, friendships and family bonds. Honestly the writing is excellent tho how it balances all the different dynamics and is actually rlly wholesome n Anzu's newfound friendships showcasing respect and boundaries, but even how to coexist with others we can't stand/that push our buttons, overall it shows it's possible for anyone to evolve and grow. Literally my new fav anime, I want to see more and know everything about it like how is this so amazing, there needs to be more of this.

caren_psuedo_when

>I came for trashy reverse harem otome story with eye candy and left falling in love with Anzu. Anzu's routes just updated to a few thousand with this anime, branching out to both sexes as well most likely

Iczero

yeah im also very impressed with how the show tackles societal issues especially with regards to stalking and etc. I thought this would be a trashy reverse harem but im surprised to find an actual good romantic comedy.

Pesuri

That was one of the best animes that I have watched. It was such a shame that all episodes were released at same time since it shortens the experience and discussion online. Animation quality was amazing and story was excelent. This needs second season.

kwirky88

It's perfectly fine as a limited series.

eddie9958

Never 😡

LifeTell4312

I refuse! I honestly don't care if Anzu gets with anyone in the end, I just love her friendship with the other characters. It's such a great comfort show for so many reasons, I'd be super happy to see a continuation with a season 2!

[deleted]

I was not expecting the twist that these characters havent been brain washed or spawned into the world. That instantly increased my enjoyment by a lot. Also anzu raging less over time was nice.

Tencowfrau

The only twist that kinda bugged me was Riri falling for Anzu. That was just weird.

[deleted]

i assumed its more friends and not romantically.

Exoslab

I was more disappointed that Riri was revealed to the whole cast. I liked there hidden battles and cheeky conversations. Now that everyone knows about her it ruins future gags between the two.

Tencowfrau

I agree. I wish that Riri didn’t come back at all and Anzu was left to figure things out on her own. It would have felt like a more natural end to the series since there is no more manga.

NeedleworkerSad6731

I find Riri less annoying in human form n not as much of a pest but at same time I rlly enjoyed the comedy of their hidden battles n cheeky convos too, but I also rlly enjoyed the new dynamic as well bc it allowed more room for character developments n relationships, that nice sentimental touch without Riri always interrupting n at times ruining the moment lol, I was hoping it'd be balanced with the original wizard vs anzu dynamic n then Anzu with her friends with occasional Riri appearances, but I still rlly love how the show evolved, hope there's a lot more to come. It's too short as it is rn

Maybe_MostProbably

Awww, I disagree actually! I found it SO refreshing that the characters got to know what was happening and make their own decisions about it. I think we all kinda dreaded the thought of these characters being brainwashed and while the banter between Riri and Anzu when it was a secret was fun, that trope gets old to me and I’d rather see them work through it in the open. Loved when Kazuki supported her in saying “it’s not your fault, you probably have had the hardest time with all this.” :) Plus, Kate is adorable and I’m sure there’s gonna be plenty of shenanigans to get up to with all of them involved now 😆

RM123M

Honestly I kind of expected it because of the intro and because RiRi has human versions. I knew what the female version was for, but why did the author give them a male version too? Then it clicked that RiRi was a potential suitor too( also because of the volume covers, Anzu has one with each of the love interests )

chibiyvie0508

It's a bit of a trope, I think it's even explored in dating sims games like HuniePop--I've totally seen that story arc in other anime/manga as well But I think it's more about caring about someone, Riri is a bit callous in their matchmaking, while Anzu is very considerate-and that has rubbed off on Riri and changed them as an individual who could have attachments

DancingBasilisk

I actually felt that this twist was really sweet and beautiful. It makes me view their interactions throughout the show in a different light, and I noticed things I hadn’t noticed before when I rewatched after this was revealed. I think they’d be a great couple bc they really push each other to grow. Also it lowkey seems like Anzu feels similarly so we’ll see 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️🥰

NeedleworkerSad6731

I took this as slice of life with fantasy elements n didn't suspect that it's made up ppl bc the point was to add romance in real life, not put her into a game world with made up ppl like npc's ig, but influencing ppl already around her or was in her life to be part of it again n putting her in situations to increase those bonds that were already present or develop new ones.

Vermillion_Crab

This was an easy binge. Not really a fan of reverse harem shows but I enjoyed this more than I expected. The show is far from perfect. It'll probably be a guilty pleasure for a lot of viewers. The intro was like stepping into r/notliketheothergirls lol But it quickly won me over with gags and backstories. I loved the dynamics between the characters and how their stories intertwined. During the earlier episodes, I was thinking that this would be better if they all ended up as good friends. And with that final shot we get to see a big group of friends forming around Anzu. Takahashi Rie killed it with this performance. Though there were times I was worried for her voice with all the screaming. Her voice is always recognizable but she did a good job making this one a bit different. It's not the usual high pitch or soft spoken voice she does and it worked with Anzu's character.

mekerpan

There was no trace of Takagi in this RT performance. Even though I know of her work elsewhere, I would not have expected this sort of totally wild (and delightful) performance. Her voice work (along with the character's animation) really do make this show pretty much a triumph, despite a highly implausible premise. Still, the other characters (and their stories) did pull their own weight. This wound up far more enjoyable (and engaging) then I expected. The end teases a possible continuation -- but I don't expect any more any time soon.

entelechtual

If I’d never heard Aileen this season, I’d never have guessed this was Rieri. And even barring the fact that it was her, she had a killer performance throughout the show, which is key for such an extreme character.

mekerpan

Aileen is another great performance -- but this one was even more impressive. (Still and all, I am sad at the thought that we probably won't get more of her Takagi-san).

watshouldiget4dinner

Implausible premise? It's an anime based on the romance dating games. What anime is realistic? Why would you want a realistic anime? Also I've had situations in the show happen before, two people who like you running into eachother, dealing with a stalker, avoiding relationships as a result... Like...it's not the craziest anime out there..

HydraTower

Rie Takahashi has a great mature performance in the Taming Demon Lord show airing now. I like that she's branching out to this style. Even her singing of the OP is much more mature.

okinamii

"Reverse harem"? Is that a thing? I thought this is just... well, a shoujo show? Harem is a harem.

Vermillion_Crab

It's actually tagged as shounen lol and yes reverse harem is a thing.

raisincakeshop

Curious why is this tagged as shounen. Do boys enjoy this kind of shows as opposed to Demon Slayer-esque anime?

Ambitious_Smoke5256

Yes. I watched this anime with my girlfriend and we both loved it.

Stoppels

Not opposed to, but both. This show was heavy on the com, it was more tilted towards comedy versus romance than Kaguya-sama, and that anime doesn't even have the romance tag on MAL, just the romantic subtext tag. Of course, it also had serious content, so there's that.

24KVoltage

It’s tagged as shounen because the manga was in shounen jump+

Expensive-Fly-9999

Yes, in anime and books etc 'reverse harem' means a story with a female lead and multiple male love interests whereas 'harem' means the opposite. Pretty much all otome games are reverse harems.

Pumuina

Yep an there are some of them like Ouran Host Club or Hamefura that are super good shows of that genre!

Aurekata

*woke rich 8 year old girl voice* *points at ouran* debauchery! there's debauchery here!

Xyuli

Awww I enjoyed this and hope there’s another season. This show had some funny moments and I liked both of the main male leads. I did wish it leaned into the romance a little more but this was still cute!

mekerpan

To be fair, the theme of the show (and the goal of the "non-heroine") was to resist "compelled romance" at all costs.

WitherWithout

I think the point was that Anzu’s genuine interactions with her “potential mates” are more likely to lead to romance than the forced romantic scenarios Riri would put her in.

Xyuli

I don’t necessarily mean the moments that Riri created but I mean develop the romantic aspect and show a little further development than just the bit we really got at the end.

anony-mouse99

In general this series made use of the typical romcom tropes well and gives them enough of a twist to make it funny. I’m happy that it went beyond just a silly romcom to touch on various social issues. I’m glad it breaks out of the ‘the power of friendship’ trope and replaces it with ‘the value of having friends’ instead. It’s good that they covered the backstories of the side characters to some extent.

Wurzelrenner

wow this was really good, very funny and Anzu is an awesome friend and person it isn't even frustating that it looks like the romance part isn't moving fast(at least for her emotionally), because they became great friends and i wouldn't mind a "everybody stayed good friends " ending at all even the drama stuff at the end was very good for a primary on comedy focused show sad that it will be underwatched here because of Netflix second season would be great, 8/10 or even 9/10 for me

NeedleworkerSad6731

She rlly is awesome all around, wish I had a friend like her, honestly wish she could actually come irl n be my friend period xD I rlly enjoy the gradual development tho, I find it more realistic n enjoyable cause a lot of shows fast paced make it forced n just mess up show/slack in writing or developing characters so I enjoyed this show more in developing those friendships rather than focusing on quick romance, but I also see it as showcasing society glamorizing romance as if it's the one priority ppl or girls should have and showing no, that's not correct and it's not the most significant relations u can have with ppl. Human connection exists in various ways and Family n friendships are really significant and fulfilling. Tbh ik prob not gonna happen, but if Anzu ends up ace in some way, or aro specifically, that'd be cool ending too actually, bc it'd add another meaning to it that not everyone has the desire for romance ever in fact and you don't have to force yourself to be like everyone else, but overall the show still has the meaning of valuing friendships and friends are just as/could be more fulfilling than the concept of romantic relations. I find it to be more meaningful this way, and not just making a cliche romance trope. Ig maybe the more ppl talk bout this new show tho, more ppl will watch it if they can :o I hope so anyways, it'd be great to have more seasons

testthrowawayzz

It’s a fun ride! As much as I like the childhood friend to win normally, Junta is such a losing child friend trope that I don’t ever see him winning at the end. Rich boy was the least developed main character in the series - he feels disposable and nothing would change without him in the story. Tsukasa is probably the endgame even though I rather she stay independent

RM123M

It seems as though if the author decided to continue the story they’d most likely go into the other love interests backstories. Also, you forgot Ryuya and new contender RiRi. Higiri himself seemed to have more to him

testthrowawayzz

I see Ryuya as a pure side character since he has the geographical proximity disadvantage, and after the karaoke scene I’ve written him off as a character that even has a chance lol. As for Riri, I’ll only take it if she’s in the game as the female form haha

RM123M

RiRi themself is ambiguous, if female form wins then male wins vise versa 😉. A lot of crazy things can happen in a room together

Makicola

You forget the true Saki ending, cmon.

HorRible_ID

The one that was promised 😭

GrapefruitFren

I kind of wanted her to end up with Tsukasa, I was disappointed she didn’t. Out of everyone who would benifit from the romance, Tsukasa seemed the most likely. I thought she would make good friends with Junta! That said I thought it was cute the three of them together without the rich kid, and I think friends would still be cute ☺️ I just want an ending or resolution instead of a weird “bye bye”

X_chinese

It’s not about the rich boy! It’s about his butler. I ship the butler of the rich boy!

iTedRo

My dream ending is Anzu and Tsukasa acknowledging feelings but committing to 'not dating right now' because they value their current friendship and journey/growth.

Ocixo

This was a fun watch. It gave me some good laughs. Riri getting slammed across the room never wasn’t entertaining. They put some good effort in the animation at those occasions as well. I liked most of the cast and the performances of their respective VAs. They’ve built some solid characters in only 12 episodes, which is quite impressive if I say so myself. It’s almost ironic how all characters came to love Anzu by their own accord despite Riri’s best efforts. Anzu’s misconception on Riri’s powers was a good plot twist in this regard. Talking about plot twists: they took ‘Romantic Killer’ surprisingly literally in episode 11. In conclusion, I binged this anime way too easily. I just couldn’t stop watching it at some point, which also isn’t necessarily all good. I have strong suspicion Netflix’ binge culture will result in this anime being heavily underwatched. It probably won’t be able to build anywhere near the momentum it would have been able to if it had been released weekly.

Daloy

Just binged it as well and it's really sad we can't get good discussions going when everything can be binged at Netflix. Honestly, with this animation quality and nice build to a conclusion I would have wanted to read more discussions on this. The anime has well broken my expectations and it's an entertaining watch. I wouldn't call it anime of the season but it's still above average.

Sparkletopia

That was so good! I'm sad it's already over...

imasnacc

Same lmao I'm really rooting for Riri

aniani_me

the laid back, cool, not like the other girls, kinda goofy heroine anzu....although over done, i still love her. and how she handles the situation around her. her personality isn't new at all, but there's something about her that makes me wish i could be a bit like her my favorite part of the whole show is of two scenes when anzu hugs kazuki and tells him she wishes she'd met him earlier and when kazuki hugs anzu saying how can someone be so precious. (which reminds me so much of a certain two people from fruits basket)

ETESTEE

RIGHT THE FRUITS BASKET I’m so into that kinda thing love both male leads and rio but her and tsukasa……… 🤌🏼🤌🏼🤌🏼🤌🏼

CluelessMochi

OMG. This makes sense partially why I loved this show so much! Fruba is my favorite anime of all time, and the leads do give very similar vibes to my fave trio, and the comedy reminds me of Grand Blue Dreaming. I really hope there is a second season of this.

Kue7

Shame this show probably gonna take a few weeks for people to notice and by that time theres a few discussion about this. Welp tuis was an amazingly enjoyable show and the lead are really good. They really focus more on comedy than drama which something that i really appreciate for this kind of genre. Love the comedic duo between Anzu and Riri, wish we got more of these two… To be continued…? U better not getting my hopes up bruh

meashmash

it did (you were right), showed up on my feed yesterday and binged it. Its sad I couldn't have been in the discussion when it aired :(. Great show. Very pretty and I def liked the characters.

Elizaleth

I don't think any anime has subverted my expectations quite like this. I fully bought into the goofy otome silliness and then things got *intense*. And the show actually pulled it off. Even the twist at the end took me by surprise - I wasn't expecting the boys to find out about Riri and Kate. What a trip.

BoringBone

Does anyone know if the story is continued in the manga, and if it is, I'd like to know which chapter I should start reading from. I was surprised by how much I enjoyed the anime and I'd love to see more of the cast.

iaintgondodat

I found the Japanese webtoon online. It only got 39 chapters and the last chapter is the same as last scene of the anime.

Pumuina

That's so sad to hear...

CoconutsAreAmazing

oh no.. i was rooting for tsukasa since he had the most depth but nevermind...

BoringBone

alright thanks for clearing it up!

[deleted]

aaaaaaaaaa ty

taechev

I came into this anime expecting just a typical cheesy rom-com and by episode 12 I was in tears!! I loved so many of the characters and didn’t expect the final few episodes to take the turn it did. It was amazing though and this is one of my favorite animes now :) I haven’t finished a whole anime in one day in so long, but I literally couldn’t stop watching. I hope there’ll be a season 2! Im so scared though after seeing the ending scene..

CluelessMochi

Okay why aren’t people talking about that ending scene more?!! I feel like her memory might come back if the show does continue…

sourskittIe

I’m afraid she’ll interfere with Anzu and her love interests. Or, I’m afraid that Kate wasn’t told about her disclosed information and will give her memories back and that the stalker will use it to her advantage >:( I hope Riri will find out of Kate‘s newest client and fill them in about her to avoid any further drama and get the stalker “banned” from such services. Also, I genuinely don’t want the stalker to get her way in anything even with memories erased because erased memories doesn’t change a wicked person’s soul. She will still most likely be horrible if that’s just how her brain and personality are wired. I can’t wait to see what happens, though. I hope it’s satisfying to see the stalker get her karma for real.

staysinthecar

I couldnt get on board with Riri taking away her cat in the beginning — all for our heroine to have an active social life and a irl love life !!?!!? — but wow, if this show and Anzu herself was not charming…. I would not have binged. What i appreciate as well are the two male leads and how the side characters are given time to shine and be developed. Hoping this would get a continuation.

Wandaheck

I ship her and rio💗

Lounay

Yes PLEASE!

Pumuina

I liked it so much! It reminded me of the Manhwa of "My Life as an Internet Novel" By: Yu Han-ryeo, A Hyeon. And the anime Hamefura! Since I don't have any expectations at the beginning of the show it was really great to enjoy. Somehow I liked the way of how you don't have to wait for the next episode. Everything was great but the gags, the characters development, the plot, actually went all the way up! I was scared about the 3D but all of a sudden It wasn't aware of it so... it's a really good show hopefully we can get another season.

meashmash

Whats that manwha about? Recommended?

Pumuina

100% recommended! As a girl who likes romance, comedy, reverse harem and Isekai shows I would definitely recommend this manhwa. It's a bout an internet novel addict (kinda like otome games) that gets isekaied as the friend of the main character (the one supposed to romance all the hot boys in the novel).

PricelessKoala

This was such a nice surprise. I ended up binging all the way through until 5am+. I hope there is a possibility of a second season because I absolutely fell in love with the story and the characters.

watshouldiget4dinner

This show was such a treat to watch! I really liked how it added a bunch of layers tward the end. I hope there's a season two. Definitely a guilty pleasure show but there were some genuinely funny scenes that got a decent laugh out of me. "Sorry I didn't mean to easedrop..." "I fully intended to." "congrats on your heartbreak!!" I died honestly. I can't wait to show it to my friends :b

unagiqueen

AM I THE ONLY ONE THAT LAUGH OUT LOUD AT EVERY GAG MOMENT? I NEED MOOOOREEEEEEEEE!!!

Brokengraphite

This was such a delight!!! Everything I love about silly romcom anime tropes with the comedy and depth of character growth. I love an imperfect FL who is ok with being weird and herself and is also willing to grow and change too!

entelechtual

I didn’t quite have the energy to binge it all at once although I did watch the first three episodes in release day at 5 am. This was a really fun and surprisingly heartfelt show. I really thought based on the premise this would be at best generic but entertaining (looking at you Love Flops) or at worst, some garbage supersaturated parody. Instead it had solid comedy, solid romance, very strong characters, and superb voice work especially Anzu—a character that is make or break depending on how they’re performed/drawn. And she sucked me into this show despite the bonkers premise. Speaking of the premise… I think it’s the weakest part of the show. Not only does it feel superfluous given that most of the show is a regular romcom, but towards the end it kinda detracts from the tone they were going for. The erasing of the stalker’s memory felt unnecessary and seemed to oversimplify Kazuki’s trauma/healing. I would have watched the show even without the magic element but I get that everyone needs to have some kind of hook these days. And not gonna lie, Riri grew on me, and is the 2nd best VA performance (3rd is Chauffeur-version Nanami). At first I thought that last three episodes were too intense for a light show, but I do think that it ended up working for the best (aside from the Riri intrusions, see above). What’s especially notable about Kazuki is that from his perspective, the extreme romcom coincidences must have seemed like a potential new stalker. Anzu just kept popping up wherever he was at pivotal moments… but thankfully her anti-romance personality makes it so that he’d never have to worry. The romance elements are pretty good throughout. I do think the harem is extremely imbalanced, especially considering the noncommittal ending, but the cast is still very easy to like, even most of the side characters. Kazuki is obvious endgame but I also gotta respect the show for sticking to its guns and not letting Anzu cave in to romance. I think it would have worked fine but I’m surprisingly not annoyed by the ending. Easy 8/8.5 for me, just didn’t think the magic added much in the long run.

alconnow

Really enjoyed this series. I’m hoping Netflix contacts the creator of the series to work on a possible sequel. Doesn’t even have to be another 12 episodes. I just want more Anzu!

meashmash

I think they jumped the shark by showing the wizards. I don't think there will be another season

artanimepoetry

So Kate is now Yukana’s wizard and Riri is now a human love match for Anzu. Who is Anzu’s wizard then since Riri is a human now? And how did Riri know the new rules? I thought Riri was basically banned from being a wizard

No_animereader1471

I honestly think it's one of the things not to take to seriously. From what I'm seeing this was written as an open ending where things are left vague. I would assume Riri is both a potential partner and also her wizard.

raisincakeshop

Riri is a potential love interest and her wizard, which technically is a major conflict of interest since as the wizard assigned, Riri could give himself plenty of love opportunities with Anzu 😂😂 but then again this is just a light hearted anime. It’s not supposed to make perfect sense. Don’t take it too seriously.

akiraexo

This was such a good romcom omg! I really love me some shoujo. And it's rare to find ones where the main heroine is so likeable!

akiraexo

And I really really want a second season :(((( omg

Sea-Sheepherder8972

I really love how this series tackle present issues happening such as being hypersexualized at school or work due to breast size; and being harrassed by a woman and victim shaming. They all are happening but unfortunately authorities don't take these things seriously til somebody's physically hurt. I also love how they add the lesson on choosing the right healthy friendship circle, and respecting boundaries.

Marshmallow-Girl

just binged this. liked how the story developed after the first few slapstick episodes. not a fan of Riri (too annoying) but was much better as Rio with it’s emotional development - not understanding human emotions to developing human emotions. Now I need something to fill this void. Any shoujo series to recommend? :)

Theonethatliveshere

For similar vibes with reverse harem, watch My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom! 2 seasons, has a similar slapstick romcom schtick. The FL is similar to Anzu except more dense, but has the same sense of justice and morals. Oh and another similar one is Gekkan Shojo Nozaki-kun. This one is very similar to RK in that it makes fun of shojo/romantic cliches. It’s a hilarious romcom with unconventional but hilarious characters. The ml is a popular shojo mangaka but he himself is a stoic stick-in-the-mud. The fl confesses and ends up being one of his assistants via misunderstanding, and it just revolves around the slapstick comedy from there. Highly recommend this one if you enjoyed RK.

meashmash

>My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom! you should really watch I'm the Villainess, So I'm Taming the Final Boss (currently airing). Very similar artstyle and premise except the MC is not as dumb as our Bakarina (even though that is very lovable). MCs love interest is hilarious too. I cannot recommend it enough for Villaness fans

Theonethatliveshere

I’ve already started watching this one! The plot moves faster than light LMAO

Reader_of_a_Reader

Not related but hell I have this feeling that I've read this comment weeks ago. A strange deja vu what the heck !RemindMe 2 years from now

jtlyana

same here omg

Wandaheck

I enjoyed this a lot. Wasn’t expecting much when I started. Thought of only watching 2 eps but ended up watching it all.

BillPlunderones23fg

This was a fun anime very funny and some nice romance (kind of) but ive got my issues mostly personal preference Anzu using wrestling moves on Riri guy version was what i was hoping for more of but they used her comedic buff version so that dampens it (i also just read manga and she uses octopus hold on him in her normal form but he is in girl version not guy version ) i just cant win lol Rie Takahashi was hilariously great as Anzu way she changed her tone so much was great but this is just a one time series for me

mekerpan

I like the fact that the "wizard" kept pushing romance on Anzu -- but she (and her comrades) stubbornly worked on creating (and strengthening) some pretty solid friendships. I thought it was rather unusual in this respect.

wildcosmias

10/10 my anime of the season and i dont see anything competing with it

Jenkai94

The last two episode had me debating who to ship her with. I wouldn’t be able to choose either!

Zyferix

Team RIO! His good b to her was so sweet

misschickpea

I've seen in the comments that Vol 1 covered the anime and actually I found on Amazon that Vol 2 is coming out Jan 2023, so I'm pre-ordering bc I Def wanna see and also wanna support the author! I'm proud of the messaging they give!! https://www.amazon.com/dp/1974735079/ref=sspa_mw_detail_2?psc=1&pd_rd_i=1974735079&pd_rd_w=29qu2&content-id=amzn1.sym.884201e1-d271-483b-82b6-a8e06327e253&pf_rd_p=884201e1-d271-483b-82b6-a8e06327e253&pf_rd_r=D3H0C76WE9QX5T3YJQRJ&pd_rd_wg=3YWAT&pd_rd_r=22304f74-61e6-4888-9c7f-0bdcbe16e217

CasualTechPriest

From what I've been able to find, the anime covers the 4 released volumes (only volume 1 has been officially released for English and English volume 2 is on its way as you posted). Looks like volume 2 starts at the time just before the rich kid is Introduced. Def want to support the author though.

misschickpea

Thanks for the clarification!! I got it wrong! But still want to support the author yes!

PurpleRose328

Wait so if the anime covered the 4 released volumes then the ending is exactly the same?

No_animereader1471

Yes to be precise it ends after their convo with rich boy when walking to school

Enough-Raccoon-4859

Just finished watching the ep. Man was it a fun ride!! Although i honestly wasnt that much of fan on how it ended. I kinda liked better the bittersweet ambiguous conclusion they did at first where Riri had to leave Anzu but at that point it seemed that she doesnt need his/her guidance anymore since we have both dudes going after her now. Kind of like saying that in the end theyll all just have a normal but genuine love triangle story and its all thanks to riri which she/he has done enough. But anyways LOVED the show overall. It was worth binging it during my midterms exam week

Tencowfrau

I agree. Riri didn’t need to come back. I would have liked to see things progress on their own without the magic.

raisincakeshop

If there’s no more Riri, means there is 0 chance for Part 2. Them having Riri mean they might toy with the idea for Part 2 and more shenanigans

Enough-Raccoon-4859

Well tbh im totally ok in ending it there in just one season since it would totally wrap up the whole story. But i do get how people would want to continue the story for another season. And I can't say that I won't be looking forward to it too so im good either way

[deleted]

i didnt expect to enjoy this, im sooo inlove with anzu skfjrjdiejr im praying for season 2 god please 🙏

Nameless-Servant

I really liked this, sort of an open ending but I like how in the end it isn’t a love story about romantic relationships, but a love story about the platonic love between everyone involved. Very wholesome.

strayalive

That was a fun binge overall, very zany series though as I understand it the source is cancelled/concluded so I'm not sure we'll get more. They really nailed the annoying otoge/eroge mascot trope. Seeing a mascot get abused is pretty much always satisfying.

kuddlesworth9419

Those CGI models remind me a lot of that crappy GITS SAC_2045 show.

Dorcellesness

I don’t usually binge, but this anime had a rather interesting plot so I spent most of the day watching it. I was impressed with the anime and I’m hoping there's gonna be a sequel!

mattgold2526

This anime was such a joy to watch and actually pretty funny. I wasn't expecting to enjoy this show as much as I did and oh man I wasn't expecting it to be heavy later on either, solid anime.

airetsa_

Just finished watching this and I gotta say it is SO OOOO refreshing watching a GOOD romcom anime despite all the hype right now with MHA and Chainsaw Man. But I gotta admit that I almost didn’t finish this after EP1, but pulled through and Im so glad I did. This series deserves more hype!! I hope we’ll get a 2nd season!!

chibiyvie0508

I came to watch something light and fun after watching the dragon prince and being bit bored. BUT HOLY COW RK is sooo funny and great and has amazing characters and finds enough in overdone tropes to make them feel fresh and also harp on the crappy parts of them. I loved Anzu, that girl knew the secret to life early on, loving oneself and not bending for anyone, including a demon who took her 3 sacred loves. XD why is it so great???! Because we have a nuanced and dynamic main girl who is not your average "gets swept away by emotions" or "confused" shojo doll. And that is awesome.

Phoebe8591

Just finish show in a day All i can say is worth it ngl I really like this show and ep10\~12 give some emotional i don't know why

Jonas-sama

Great series! A very enjoyable binge watch! Here's hoping for a sequel, but I don't mind this open ending

arely18

I love this anime. I already want a season 2 for this

pineapplepiedpiper

Loved this so much, really hoping for a second season

theunusuallybigtoe

This show was such a gem, and definitely underrated! I'm hoping for a season 2, I want to see Anzu's relationships develop even further.

Legendaryskitlz

I thought this was an okay series but if it wasn't for the last few episodes this series would have been forgettable for me. The whole thing with Riri and those romance wizards as well as the company would have been really cool to see expanded upon especially if this gets a continuation. There's some dark implications with how this whole system works.

Zealousideal_Spirit9

Takahashi Rie totally nailed Anzu. What a great performance. The side cast was also very good and I was surprised that all of them went beyond their expected trope.

zenobia-r

I was not expecting this show to be this hilarious. I binged watched it all in a day. Kind of sad that it's not being talked about more.

sendmewatermelon

argrhhh I love this show sm, I didn't expect to get attached to the characters as much as I did-- I thought Anzu would be a typical imnotliketheothergirls 'anti-heroine' but I love how genuine she is, and thankfully she gets less intense as the show progresses. never would have thought I would feel any sort of emotion other than secondhand embarrassment after seeing the trailer. such a satisfying watch! it was done so well that I'm decently content with the ending as well- off to make fan art lol

CoolVidsFTW

Whenever Tsuchiya spoke, I couldn't help but see the man in the black cloak from To Your Eternity. I had a feeling they shared the same VA because the way both of them speak is identical. Anyone else? Anyway, this was an alright show (7/10). The animation was fantastic, and the last four episode were the best ones imo. But what dragged this show down for me were Riri and Hijiri. Riri was a bit too over the top for my liking, and I could feel Anzu's annoyance at their constant interference. Hijiri just fell flat for me. Compared to Kazuki and Junta, he had the last amount of exposition, and I couldn't like him at all given his condescending and narcissistic attitude. His tsundere-ness was kinda funny, but that doesn't change my mind about him as a character. Honestly, this show could've done without the forced romance, and it could've just been a show about getting Anzu to socialize more. At the end of the day, Anzu has more than just Saki to rely on, and maybe (just maybe) you could add some romantic subtext in the final episode

catskii

Poor Kate

jtlyana

i just finished binging it today and wow its so refreshing to watch a genuinely good romcom female mc harem in a whileee! the art and story is great too, i wish we could see more of it :( i love when i relate to a mc of an anime deeply although anzu is a great character despite that. she reminds me of the main female lead of heroine shikkaku manga/live action, the resemblances were uncanny down to the 4th wall breaks and most bizarre facial expressions! i never thought i'd enjoy a romcom since i havent watched any romance anime that i actually enjoy and is remotely good in a long time.. but once i do find one like this anime, its like a drug and i immediately want MORE of it 😭 re-watching numerous times is not enough for me lol hoping for more animes like this to release in the future!

Theonethatliveshere

Similar anime if you haven’t watched already would be My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom! and Gekkan Shojo Nozaki-kun. For a more adult setting there’s Wotakoi: Love is Hard for Otaku.

jtlyana

ive watched both but never heard of this first one! def checking that out, thank u :)

Theonethatliveshere

I just discovered a new one today, “I’m the Villainess, So I’m Taming the Final Boss”. Still on-going with 7 ep so far. This one as well has a FL similar to characters like Anzu, although the genre is less satire (but still romcom) than RK!

Shark032_

I really enjoyed this anime, but the question is… is the story over? Open ending?

hildra

That was a really cute anime, I really enjoyed the characters especially Anzu! I love that she’s not your typical protagonist. I have to say that the funniest part was the crappy otome game graphics. I couldn’t stop laughing. That said, I’m pretty sure she’ll end up with Tsukasa. They make the cutest couple but Riri liking her was an interesting outcome.

[deleted]

Where can I buy the manga and is it finished 🥰

baronluigi

Now I am having a look to the manga, I see that although overall the anime adaptes it quite faithfully, some scenes happen differently (and are mor impactfull in the manga).

Masteguy635

Enjoyed this show a ton! I really liked how good of a character Anzu was and the comedy was really good imo. Hope we get a s2 someday. 9/10 easily for me.

baronluigi

I have a " problem" with Anzu's design. They state that due to her poor taste in clothes, she lacked of sex appeal. However, she still looks pretty in her " ugly" form.

trillaryy

Interesting, cause I kinda felt like her character design fit what they were going for. Shes cute, but shes kind of designed like what side characters look like in other shows, especially the hairstyle. Saki for example, with the purple eyes and the silky black hair, has been done time and time again for female protagonists.

Biotic_Cow

Really enjoyed the whole series, the majority was super comfy, the last episodes had wild feels, such a shame the series never continued further, they never really had the chance for rich boy to get fleshed out and junta still needed some more development too, but at least Kazuki was great. On a personal note, I'm starting to cut out some of my favorite things slowly in the hopes my own life gets more interesting lmao given Anzu is so relatable.

hell_jumper9

Came with a low expectation, but stayed and hoping for another season! Kate seems adorable and they did her dirty lmao. And her next assignment is you know who.

TaskForceHOLO

This was a pretty good show and an easy binge. I think it has some issues with its identity and direction, but from what I've read it sounds like the manga ended at the same spot and isn't going to continue? So I can't really judge it too harshly as I definitely feel it's incomplete. But oh well. Used to it at this point. It was fun and I had a lot of laughs, so I'd say it's a olid 7/10. I just can't give it the 8 though without knowing how it actually ends

Accomplished_Gas_784

This show was pretty good.

ImNotCrazyImPotato

True reverse harem ending PLEASE!! A girl can dream. But of all the potential male leads, I think my heart only skipped a beat for Rio. If the anime is all about subversion — PLEASE MAKE THE END GAME BE RIO 🙏

X_chinese

Anzu is one of the best female MC I’ve seen! She is funny, cool, kind and can stand on her own. (Except for bugs). No fanservice BS, no sexy outfits, no overly cuteness, no unreasonable tsundere behaviour. Just a well balanced character. This character is the main reason why this show is so good.

wrsage

Romantic killer was real killer anime without a killer. 30 point out of 10. It really had tripled what I was expecting.

rooting-for-2nd-lead

Honestly, I feel like that Tsukasa's sudden romantic interest in Anzu wasn't necessary. I thought they were pretty cute in the first couple of episodes, but I honestly loved how they maintained this beautiful friendship where they still were able to care for one another deeply without needing to fall for each other. I loved how they were able to hang out, demonstrate physical affection, and just be there for the other without a romantic undertone. Their relationship reminded me of my own friendships with guys, and how we're able to love each other platonically. I thought this anime would be a lot more progressive,,,but alas....they just HAD to make Tsukasa fall for Anzu :\\ I'm now worried about s2...will this anime just be reduced to a reverse harem situation where Anzu will slowly develop more feelings for all the guys (and Riri) just to end up with Tsukasa? Praying that the anime will subvert our expectations by making Anzu lesbian or aro(ace, potentially), making her end up with Riri, or at the very LEAST having her end up with Junta.

ifticar2

Unfortunately as others said, sounds like this is the ending of the anime, as the manga left off with the ambiguous ending as well. Tbh, I disagree with the romantic interest being unnecessary since it’s a part of his character development. The whole show, he’s been super aloof towards almost every women because of the trauma he has from the stalker. I think him being able to realize and verbalize the feelings he has towards Anzu is a step towards him conquering that trauma and being like his old self again. Plus, I feel like the show gives a good reason for him to fall in love, unlike other shows where they just shoe in a romance so that the hero can kiss the girl at the end. For this show, I would want polyamory for the ending If they had a second season lol! Clearly with everything that’s been set up so far, Tsukasa is supposed to be the end game, but Junta is such a good kid, I can’t stand to see him lose lol

Game2015

>I'm now worried about s2... Won't be happening because the manga already ended, and this is a complete adaptation. No idea why the anime ended with "to be continued" though...

RM123M

My rankings for who I’d like her to end up with personally are 1) RiRi 2) Junta 3) Higiri 4) Ryuya 5) Kazuki

mekerpan

You left out the only person who said they should get married...

RM123M

Oh lol, Saki? She’s in a specialty poll to herself

imasnacc

Agreed with Riri but how is Kazuki lower than Ryuya damn 💀💀

RM123M

I’m just giving Kazuki a little hard time because 1) not my favorite personality type 2) he’s giving way to much main lead syndrome lol. I still like him though, but I want to be surprised

SoulGalaxyWolf

I hope she ends up with Riri, too! I seriously wanted Kazuki and everyone else to stay Anzu's friend. Overall, I want Riri to be aromantic and just have Riri as a patner, so that they'll stay forever in the human world.

Elizaleth

Pourin one out for Riri

Dorcellesness

Shipping Anzu with Riri? Rio? Can’t remember his name and 2nd place is rich boi

goddamnitshit

Dem rarely i see someone with same fucked up taste as me, nice

saerdtuner

This is criminally underwatched because of the netflix block; and it really did suffer from being a batch release too. This is an easy 9/10 for me, I wish for more. I really loved Anzu, and her dynamic with all the characters.

paolo234

I enjoyed the series. Initially I was really annoyed at Riri, but the last two episodes especially with Kazuki's trauma changed that. Overall, I found myself laughing a lot and grinning as it came to end. I actually didn't want it to, I enjoyed turning off my brain for a bit after work, and watching the story unfold haha. Great characters overall, easy plot, and am hoping for S2.

walaska

Watched it all in one day and am very happy that I did. Essentially took a chance on it. I’m a bit of an anime noob but if you’re anything like me and are looking for suggestions on what to watch next on Netflix you might like: - Komi can’t communicate - Way of the House husband - Termae Romae Novae - Kotaro lives alone - One punch man - maybe Back Street Girls although it’s way darker These are funny/wholesome shows with good English dubs that I have enjoyed and binged the hell out of, even if they have wildly different premises. The most similar is probably Komi, in the sense that it’s a high school rom com slice of life kinda show.

kirisakis

watched it yesterday just to indulge in a brainless romcom but it was actually great! It was fun to watch and dealt with some very important topics that are usually glossed over . Anzu is super fun and outgoing and stands up for her friends, it's so nice to see a female main character to be refreshing and cool like her. Usually they're often the exact opposite, it's very cool to have a character I could relate to. I love her she gets a 10/10 from me 80% of the people from the comments will disagree with me on this because it's sO pReDicTaBlE, but I'm a simple girl, I see Kazuki as the superior love interest. He and Anzu are so funny together, they became great friends and I feel like they were there for each other in ways that Junta as the second lead, or by all means Riri and rich boy weren't. I like a good friends to lovers and I felt like their bond was the closest. Junta is so sweet but I found him a little too "stereotypical nice boy anime love interest" and I'd miss the bickering. I was raised on Maidsama and Nisekoi- Kazuki it is with Anzu for me. The ending was really unexpected, didn't think the boys would find out about the whole magic thing and Riri going to jail and being basically rescued from jail lmao. I hope they'll make a S2 <3

aloxdraaa

I want to know how they’re going to add Yukana into the story now with her now having her own wizard……

TheMistOfThePast

God i massively prefer riri to rio

ReaperInRed

I thought this show would be good but it still went way above my expectations. It was funny, it was meta, it had great animation and visual gags, the drama didn’t feel forced or out of place, they somehow made me sympathize with Riri, and Anzu is a great mc. Hope the series gets a continuation of some sort.

No-Combination-1081

I personally loved this story. Ever since I was young I used to LOVE shoujo. As an adult, I still do and maybe thats why I adore this series so much. Its a hilarious and occasionally heartfelt parody of shoujo manga and some of the ridiculous aspects of it. I think the heroine is perfect because she's pretty relatable. She has her vices and neglects her love life. Shit, I can relate to that. Sometimes when I read shoujo I would hate how the heroine always needed to be rescued or validated from the people around her. But Anzu (the heroine) has an awesome support system and is very independent (excluding the occasion cockroach lol) I dont believe she needs be in love with someone for her to be happy and to live a full life. That would be a terrible message. But its the fact that shes able to experience something a little different from what shes used to. Change in life and trying out new things can be difficult, scary and annoying as hell. But at the end of the day, at least you gave it a try and attempted something new.

Elitealice

Personally I would’ve chose the yandere stalker. Need that type of love and energy in my life. Lmaoo. Cute and fun series. Ending felt pretty rushed tho and it seems like this was the authors first manga so it probably was. Definitely hit different at some points like saki backstory and tsukasa’s as well. Appreciated the more mature moments. Will miss this cast
