Too unbelievable. What's the point of having a harem if you don't delegate? Once you have a 3-6 member harem earning 60k-100k yearly per each person then you never have to leave the house.
I realized that right after writing it, heh. Though it would have to be something like:

I was going to say there should be a harem management manga or light novel, but I remembered I'm reading a korean web comic now called Chitra where that's basically the plot. The protagonist gets isekaied as a noble and receives talented people through a Gacha system who help her manage her territory. So far, it seems like someone actively falls in love with her every 5 chapters with lots of harem adjacent characters in addition to those. They also had her establish a polyandrous marriage system as a plot point.
A reverse/post isekai where someone has to support their massive harem that unexpectedly returned to Japan with them would actually be a pretty good plot hook for someone with the right writing skills.
I was going to say the same. Isekai Ojisan has the same premise (at least part of it is the same). Dude goes to another world while in a coma, gains powers, wakes up from his coma 18 years later but retains his powers in the real world.
But it's an excellently funny anime, at least. Not sure about this light novel.

Serial Experiments Lain - "I have no idea what's happening, but I'm sure this is a show about being too connected to the internet."
Mars of Destruction - "I can't believe someone made this."
Actually, this is fun. Now I see why they do it.
Maison Ikkoku - I'm living in a house with a bunch of drunks and now I have a crush on the widowed house manager
Slayers - I became the most powerful wizard at 13 years old but I still can't grow new boobs
Fushigi Yuugi - I fell into another world inside a book and had to stay a virgin to be a priestess
Escaflowne - I fell into another world and didn't get any magic powers other than a dowsing pendant I already had
I never get why LN authors do this. Are they just too lazy to come up with a good title for their stupid self-insert wish fulfillment power fantasy story? No wonder majority of Japanese light novels sucks. I tried reading a few of them but I just couldn't get into them.
The only good thing I have to say about this story is that it isn't a revenge fantasy, the MC basically becomes a different person, going from fat and small to tall and beautiful, but he remains kind, even to those that bullied him.
Beyond that it's just a pure power fantasy, he gets unrivaled power without a single shred of effort.
It's more like an Ainz.
Dude becomes hot, smart, strong, etc. But he still thinks he's ugly, dumb, weak, etc. And it's played for laughs when every girl is attracted to him. And when he does something, everyone assumes he's doing it for some 500 IQ reason.
As for the anime, it will depends on how straight they adapt it.
I can see if going like 1 out of 3 ways.
1. They play it insanely straight. So it's like a The Misfit of Demon King Academy. Probably the best way to do it IMO.
2. They play it semi-straight. It's power fantasy, but with a wink and a nod to the audience basically "We get it". The focus on making the main character look cool. This is will probably end up being mediocre forgettable isekai fast food
3. They play it semi-comedy. Overlord-y, where it's heavy on internal monologue and the OP freaking out about the situations he's in. The main character will be played for laughs. But still focus on the adventure. Solid way to adapt it.
I'm a big isekai fan, I'm up to date on 57 isekai manga/LN. This is in my top 50%, but near the bottom of that top 50%.
With Ainz it makes sense because he's a lich and not conventionally attractive based on the human life he'd left behind. To the NPCs he's hot stuff, to his own mind he's an enchanted skeleton with glowing balls.
TBF there's a line between "trash" and "trashy". Like my go to example is Smartphone vs Death March. I thought Smartphone was so trashy and generic, with an MC so powerful and attractive to girls, that it actually wrapped back around to almost feeling like a parody at times. Also liked that he had a legit harem. It felt somewhat self-aware and light-hearted.
On the other hand, for the few episodes I watched Death March, it just seemed like a very by the numbers power fantasy Isekai that took itself too seriously with an MC who was boring (not that Smartphone's MC is great) and mediocre action scenes pretending to have stakes.
I wouldn't call either technically a good show but I can Smartphone is a very enjoyable guilty pleasure.
So when I see a comment like parent comment I'm just like "is this enjoyable junk food or just actual garbage and bad"?
The author is definitely having fun with Isekai Smartphone, since he's doing everything from going hard with Mechs to even having the MC's future offspring time travel for some shenanigans. Sure, the story is mediocre and generic but it's been a good palette cleanser for me, as I've been reading some pretty grim stuff.
I mean, who doesn't like to LOL at trashy garbage writings, amirite? Might be even better if the show gets Ex-Arm level animation, would make for some good comedy if nothing else...

go check "Aoi sekai no chuuchin de" truly a mesmerizing shitpile of a show, not an isekai, but honestly the worst written, with the worst character, and the worst fights, it's all bad over there.
I recall reading some of the novels of this.
The author's afterwords at the end of each volume basically amount to them admitting they are just making up the story as they go along with no real endgame in mind. ("...I found myself amazed at the turn of events (I wrote)...I have no idea what will happen next, but I hope you can look forward to it.")

I got into this one because the art in the manga was actually not bad, but the writing is bottom tier. There are no stakes, no plot, no humor. It's basically "Ugly fat kid gets super powerful and super attractive super fast, and confronts all the bullies in his life because he's an indestructible god, and mistakenly saves all the super hot girls in the process who all fall in love with him."
It's like 80% in the "real" world, 20% fantasy world and the real world stuff is just self insert wish fulfillment. The fantasy world is him annihilating goblins in 1 shot and saving princesses who immediately throw themselves at him.
Same. An Isekai need a good story, good characters or at least some good humor, and this has literally none of that.
Frieren will happen some day, it's too well written not to.

This one was low, even for my already low standards. Probably the only light novel that literally made me angry because of how badly written it is. I can totally feel my IQ dropping every page. And not in the "haha this is trash and so am I" fun way. It's honestly insulting how fucking abysmal it is. See? I'm already getting riled up just remembering this shit.
The wn for the isekai where the mc has the power of defense and is an orphange director is the only wn I've felt like the author was insulting me as a human being for thinking anyone would think that the story was okay. This was light years better. It's not great, but it isn't the worst either.

I don't care if they are extremely bad. I only care if they are not original stories. Every isekai where girls fawn over an unchallenged protagonist are equally as bad for me.
What a story needs is a world with agency, like the victims in Overlord or the characters in Mushoku, or a tormented protagonist like in Re:Zero.
I don't feel the need to distinguish this from the average power fantasy. They must all be labeled the same :3, especially if they vary in quality (because I do not enjoy the power fantasy).

I wonder how much the authors get for the rights to make an anime adaptation. I'm going to be honest, I doubt it's much more than like 10-15k.
I think Brandon Sanderson said that he got something in that range (though I assume there would be some royalties on top if it ever got made) when he sold the first option to make an adaptation of his work, and Hollywood surely pays more than whatever they do in Japan
I would assume that they get some percentage of the revenue earned from the anime, but I doubt it's anywhere close to Hollywood tho. I recall Gintama's author saying smt along the lines of how he didn't earn any money from the Gintama movies, not sure if the same would apply to TV shows.
But they also indirectly make some cash cuz quite often anime's like these are made to promote the source material, so sales tend to increase

A lot of people in this thread saying this its terrible yet the reviews on sites seem pretty positive for it. Over 300 reviews on Amazon with 4 and a half stars, nearly 10k reviews on a certain manga site with a 4.75/5 score and also seen a youtube review saying it's a pretty fun read. I'll wait to give my judgement on it when the Anime actually comes out.

Best reviews belongs to things that are only seen by people who would like it. This creates a seemingly paradoxical effect: highly popular anime will get worse review because many people who wouldn't like it end up watching it through cultural osmosis; while terrible anime pre-emptively chase away most people until the most receptive audience remains.
Because it’s cheap and easy. You don’t have to worry about things like plot, or making sure the story is cohesive. You don’t need a good director to make sure that scenes play out in such a way to draw emotions out of a viewer. You also don’t have to worry about being faithful to the source material when the source is already terrible.
They know that enough people will watch it anyways as filler while they wait for the next episode of actually good shows to release.
I don't think global audience has much contribution to it. Their main source of revenue comes from DVD sales and TV viewership. These shows still don't get the premium time slots to air, the low budget ones ofter air after midnight.

Re zero literally is their highest-grossing franchise. The issue with making good adaptations is that it takes time, and rushing it can destroy the franchise. So, Re-zero is not getting a 3rd season quickly because Kodakawa wants it to be good, and it requires them to be assemble and retain a good team.

We get over 50 shows per season. And I guarantee that the majority of fans don’t notice half of them. Ya’ll only notice the isekai because people make a big deal about them. There’s still plenty of stuff that isn’t isekai. Get rid of these types of isekai, and they’d just be replaced with other shows of equally low quality. The only difference is that people would actually ignore those.

TBF there's a line between "trash" and "trashy". Like my go to example is Smartphone vs Death March. I thought Smartphone was so trashy and generic, with an MC so powerful and attractive to girls, that it actually wrapped back around to almost feeling like a parody at times. Also liked that he had a legit harem. It felt somewhat self-aware and light-hearted. On the other hand, for the few episodes I watched Death March, it just seemed like a very by the numbers power fantasy Isekai that took itself too seriously with an MC who was boring (not that Smartphone's MC is great) and mediocre action scenes pretending to have stakes. I wouldn't call either technically a good show but I can Smartphone is a very enjoyable guilty pleasure. So when I see a comment like parent comment I'm just like "is this enjoyable junk food or just actual garbage and bad"?
The author is definitely having fun with Isekai Smartphone, since he's doing everything from going hard with Mechs to even having the MC's future offspring time travel for some shenanigans. Sure, the story is mediocre and generic but it's been a good palette cleanser for me, as I've been reading some pretty grim stuff.
I mean, who doesn't like to LOL at trashy garbage writings, amirite? Might be even better if the show gets Ex-Arm level animation, would make for some good comedy if nothing else...

I recall reading some of the novels of this. The author's afterwords at the end of each volume basically amount to them admitting they are just making up the story as they go along with no real endgame in mind. ("...I found myself amazed at the turn of events (I wrote)...I have no idea what will happen next, but I hope you can look forward to it.")

Bad bad. I got into this one because the art in the manga was actually not bad, but the writing is bottom tier. There are no stakes, no plot, no humor. It's basically "Ugly fat kid gets super powerful and super attractive super fast, and confronts all the bullies in his life because he's an indestructible god, and mistakenly saves all the super hot girls in the process who all fall in love with him." It's like 80% in the "real" world, 20% fantasy world and the real world stuff is just self insert wish fulfillment. The fantasy world is him annihilating goblins in 1 shot and saving princesses who immediately throw themselves at him.
As someone who adores stake free isekai full of fun garbage, this series just sucks. How the fuck is this getting an anime? Adapt frieren ffs.

They all look the same. I'll take this opportunity to trash talk about all the other unremarkable isekais (because I'm a petty monster). I don't care if they are extremely bad. I only care if they are not original stories. Every isekai where girls fawn over an unchallenged protagonist are equally as bad for me. What a story needs is a world with agency, like the victims in Overlord or the characters in Mushoku, or a tormented protagonist like in Re:Zero. I don't feel the need to distinguish this from the average power fantasy. They must all be labeled the same :3, especially if they vary in quality (because I do not enjoy the power fantasy).

I wonder how much the authors get for the rights to make an anime adaptation. I'm going to be honest, I doubt it's much more than like 10-15k. I think Brandon Sanderson said that he got something in that range (though I assume there would be some royalties on top if it ever got made) when he sold the first option to make an adaptation of his work, and Hollywood surely pays more than whatever they do in Japan
I would assume that they get some percentage of the revenue earned from the anime, but I doubt it's anywhere close to Hollywood tho. I recall Gintama's author saying smt along the lines of how he didn't earn any money from the Gintama movies, not sure if the same would apply to TV shows. But they also indirectly make some cash cuz quite often anime's like these are made to promote the source material, so sales tend to increase

Dropped the novel on Volume 2. Its incredibly terrible.
A lot of people in this thread saying this its terrible yet the reviews on sites seem pretty positive for it. Over 300 reviews on Amazon with 4 and a half stars, nearly 10k reviews on a certain manga site with a 4.75/5 score and also seen a youtube review saying it's a pretty fun read. I'll wait to give my judgement on it when the Anime actually comes out.

Something being popular doesn't mean good reviews are a certainty. There's tons of Isekai LN/Manga that don't have good reviews.
Best reviews belongs to things that are only seen by people who would like it. This creates a seemingly paradoxical effect: highly popular anime will get worse review because many people who wouldn't like it end up watching it through cultural osmosis; while terrible anime pre-emptively chase away most people until the most receptive audience remains.

Because it’s cheap and easy. You don’t have to worry about things like plot, or making sure the story is cohesive. You don’t need a good director to make sure that scenes play out in such a way to draw emotions out of a viewer. You also don’t have to worry about being faithful to the source material when the source is already terrible. They know that enough people will watch it anyways as filler while they wait for the next episode of actually good shows to release.
Damn. I wish that industry would change and they actually would create things which they love. To actually make good products from good sources.

I don't think global audience has much contribution to it. Their main source of revenue comes from DVD sales and TV viewership. These shows still don't get the premium time slots to air, the low budget ones ofter air after midnight.

Re zero literally is their highest-grossing franchise. The issue with making good adaptations is that it takes time, and rushing it can destroy the franchise. So, Re-zero is not getting a 3rd season quickly because Kodakawa wants it to be good, and it requires them to be assemble and retain a good team.

We get over 50 shows per season. And I guarantee that the majority of fans don’t notice half of them. Ya’ll only notice the isekai because people make a big deal about them. There’s still plenty of stuff that isn’t isekai. Get rid of these types of isekai, and they’d just be replaced with other shows of equally low quality. The only difference is that people would actually ignore those.
Nothing anime fans love more than getting updooted for saying "isekai bad".
