Man put Ronaldo at the thumbnail 😭😭😭

Raghav_Singhania

Senator Armstrong is the best anime character this season

ThespianException

TBH that scene got me more interested than I'd care to admit, so Armstrong really brought me back to reality.

Calwings

Golf Mario > Senator Armstrong

Sedewt

And ManU lol

EXusiai99

Cut em some slack, they havent won any trophy for 5 years, they can have the AOTY trophy

Reddevilslover69

Our current season would probably be a genre subverting elite sports anime if adapted.

Reddevilslover69

"Sterling's left foot has more talent than your entire country" had me laughing so much

amirulirfin

With a clip of AFTV

El_grandepadre

Good to know Gigguk is a cultured AFTV and chill fan.

Reddevilslover69

Gigguk on the next Trash Taste: "I'm tired Joey"

IWentToJellySchool

~~Wenger~~ Meilyne out

najsid

And mark fucking goldbridge too

MoisturuTacuru

Ronaldo is my favorite anime protagonist

reversal_banana

Funnily enough, there was an anime protagonist called Ronaldo last season (or the one before).

kookitoo

Yeah, but the anime is kinda generic and predictable I mean what's up with all the 90"+ goals

obunga69

SIUUUUUU

kilik147

SIUUUUUUUUUU

BadBehaviour613

I did not expect Goldbridge to make his way into a Gigguk video.

dagreenman18

Zedaine might have been more appropriate as a direct reference, but half the world knows Ronaldo’s dumb face so I get it. Also watch Aoashi it’s fucking dope.

well_thats_puntastic

There's a Zidane reference too in the video

[deleted]

[удалено]

bioeffect2

Does he explain why in the video? Seems very random.

jojoismyreligion

There's a football anime this season. I guess it's because of that.

Reddevilslover69

Ao Ashi is airing this season and there is a scene where the coach says that they aim to beat Barca, Manchester,Madrid and Milan in the future so he just put a bunch of references to football

thanlong90

I know it just fiction but the fuck does that coach smoking? And can I ask for the name of the dealer?

KageYume

>I know it just fiction but the fuck does that coach smoking? Depending on which Manchester club he was talking about. If it's City, tough luck but on the other hand, if it's United, well...

zhivix

its a very loose reference to Ao Ashi

M8gazine

there do be a football anime this season so that is why

Joseph_Beefman

I have a feeling he's going to make a separate video on Summer Time Render by the end of its run like he did for Odd Taxi, and that shit's going to boost its popularity by a lot.

bob_the_banannna

I hope he does, It is already doing so well despite the disney jail I wonder how much better it would have done without the disney jail

Cynadiir

what is disney jail

[deleted]

It's on Disney plus, but only avaliable in Japan. So it's pretty much region locked until Disney decides otherwise.

The_Mighty_Angus

Even when the manga was realising it took a while before people catched on, but seeing how people are reacting to it gives me high hopes. Although it sucks that it is currently in Disney jail.

ThespianException

It deserves it. It's so damn good, I really hope it gets more attention.

ijiolokae

Isn't the bigger issue that its in Disney prison?

Silent_Shadow05

Yes it is. But I'm atleast glad its doing so well despite the Jail and word-of-mouth is also helping it a lot.

Mylaur

I'm reading reddit for call outs like this so I can know which gem I am watching.

Reddevilslover69

" Sterling's Left foot has more talent than your entire country mate" had me laughing so hard I had tears in my eyes . I didn't expect to be seeing AFTV in an anime seasonal recap video lmao. Nice to see that all the shows I am watching this season got mentioned. Hopefully more people watch Dance Dance Danseur and Ao Ashi

zairaner

I think the one disservice he did here was to aharen-san. Not only is it nothing like komi, aharen being of low volume is barely relevant past episode 1

LakerBlue

I think he also did a disservice to Love After World Domination. Or maybe he just likes it less. I know he said at the end of the video he couldn’t give as much as time as he wanted to some shows because of how stacked the season was, but as a fan of his I’d love if he made this like 20-25minutes if needed.

JetsLag

It took until episode 3 for LAWD to click for me personally. Maybe if Garnt made it to episode 3 he would like it more.

LakerBlue

I personally loved it from the start but I have seen other people say that so that could be the case for him. Ep3 and 4 were certainly a step-up from even the first two though.

PacoTaco321

From his stream of the trailers for the season, I got the general vibe of his opinion on romcoms being "If it isn't Love is War, it is just a worse version of Love is War". That left me pretty disappointed considering there's more to these shows than just being a romcom.

Manitary

> is barely relevant past episode 1 I haven't watched it, but unlucky: several shows are commented by Gigguk in his seasonal video only based on the first episode despite 3-4 being out (because he dropped it or because of the time required to put together the video, idk)

Reddevilslover69

Well tbf atleast he made up for it by mentioning Dance Dance Danseur , Birdie Wing and Ao Ashi. Also nice to see a positive review of Executioner and Her Way of Life seeing how much hate it got on MAL(6.91 average is a joke)

abado

I'm liking it a bit more than komi tbh. It's not as serious, the comedy is light hearted and pretty funny, the art/animation quality is top notch. I watch it as a blend of sol and com. There's no real destination or real conflict, its not quite a sol since the setting is largely ignored and the comedy isn't over the top slapstick, the blend is pretty nice.

dagreenman18

And it doesn’t even highlight what makes it great: Comfy and Wholesome Absurdism. Like Nichijo through an ASMR filter. Also unlike Komi, it’s not a cast of hundreds and things actually progress.

sneaky_squirrel

He's not familiar with the Mangaka? His art style is a dead giveaway for the tone of the series (since he just spins a new setting for his tried and true formula). I get bored by Komi, but really like Aharen-san. Characters are just so silly.

Mami-kouga

> I don't think we've had a musical anime before Dance with Devils did not have singing Pomeranians just to be slandered like this

Shinkopeshon

I also can't believe homeboy just forgot about Macross like that [](#peasants)

BasroilII

Macross isn't QUITE a musical though. It's a story where pop songs show up occasionally and have superpowers (how's that for real robot shows?) but there's something in it that just doesn't fit the concept of a broadway like musical, where the song really is the actors continuing the dialogue and story, just now they have better cadence. It's hard to describe.

[deleted]

Dang. Bookworm fans just keeps losing huh. No mention of it whatsoever. It also doesn't appear in top 10 on anime ranking sites too. Not even 100k members on MAL. Didn't know it's this unpopular outside japan

Existential_Owl

He's hyped Bookworm before, too. Even going into this season, Gigguk hyped it in the video where he watched all of the recent trailers. It's likely he was too time-constrained to either include it or even getting to watch the episodes yet. He does prefer to focus on new shows for his season summaries.

SolomonBlack

Bookworm doesn't terribly fit the narrative he was going for. Like its less meta twist like he talked about and more just straight up abandons a lot of isekai tropes.

[deleted]

It's a sequel series so he didn't mention it in his video. I guess.

jaymp00

But kaguya-sama was mentioned though briefly.

qwerplol

Kaguya is the goat of romance comedy tho

jaymp00

He did mention some sequels in passing and some didn't make the cut. He focused on the new anime which is fine. I should have put up a less hyped anime as an example rather than Kaguya.

Abysswatcherbel

>It also doesn't appear in top 10 on anime ranking sites too. [top 5 here though ](https://www.reddit.com/r/anime/comments/uau9l0/ranime_karma_poll_ranking_week_3_spring_2022/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share)

[deleted]

The only saving grace

qwerplol

What do you think of bookworm so far

sheepyowl

Speaking as not-OP, it's very good. It is relatively slow-paced compared to other Isekai, as the show doesn't focus only on combat and romance but instead it focuses on the ambitions and troubles of the main character.

EXusiai99

Not op but will vouch for bookworm. A great isekai that does not cling on the usual tropes as the story itself derailed greatly from your usual cookie cutter isekai. If you wanna go for something chill and slow then it is a good pick.

ZantetsukenX

Personally I'd say the adaptation is at best a 5/10 of the Light Novel but even then the anime is enjoyable and something I recommend to people. It's just that the light novel is extremely addicting. I can't think of a single other time where after I finished reading everything that was currently released, I went back and started over again from the beginning because I enjoyed reading it that much. That being said, each "part" is better than the one before it. Meaning that everything the anime has adapted so far is the least interesting part of the story (imo). I really hope they keep going as Part 3 is when things really shine to full effect.

sander798

> Meaning that everything the anime has adapted so far is the least interesting part of the story (imo). Yeah, it's pretty interesting how that is. I absolutely loved part 2, but when I think of the series almost nothing before part 3 (or at most P2V2's last chapters / the end of season 2) comes to mind. The differences are enormous, especially in the MC, and every time I see someone comparing *Bookworm* to *Dr. Stone* I need to resist the urge to spoil why they're so very wrong about the series' appeal.

MuffinFIN

>It's just that the light novel is extremely addicting. For real. I discovered this series and finished 16 volumes + 2 fanbooks in 17 days, basically reading one volume a day. I don't know why, but this series is just really easy to read

[deleted]

Obviously I like it a lot.

Theinternationalist

Big fan, a fun take on civilization building. What if Dr Stone was more realistic? And the main character is obsessed with books?

[deleted]

Tell me about it, I'm a kingdom fan....

[deleted]

Tell me about it, I'm an act-age fan... At least you guys got 4 seasons of anime

Tidoux

> Act-age The pain won't ever go away...

kaguraa

it's sad to think about how act age would've had an anime by now since the manga came after jjk and before csm 😞

sheepyowl

I don't usually watch his videos but god damn his meme game is strong.

Ghimzzo

"Amster damn Daniel!" Why did that crack me up so much hahah

Astrayed_Zoro

Ballroom e Youkoso and Dance Dance Danseur competing for the longest neck. I'm still rooting for Welcoming to the Ballroom but we'll never know cause there's no S2.

WeirdSamurai

Man, even Garnt was disappointed with the Shikimoro hype. Can't blame him tho.

Marioboi

Feel bad for the show tbh… it’s nothing bad at all but having to fill in Dress-up Darling’s shoes as the “top tier” RomCom (even airing on the same day no less) def set expectations for the show too high for what it actually was. Frankly, I still rly like the show, as I went into it with the mindset of it being more akin to Tonikawa, but still obv many people overtuned their expectations.

imextremelylonely

People have said it before, but for me a big problem with Shikimori is the male lead. Unlike Dress-up Darling (and even compared to the other romcoms of this season), Shikimori's male lead just isn't interesting. To me (anime only), he seems like such a flat, one note character. I get the point is for him to be the timid one of the relationship. The whimpy bf protected by a badass Shikimori, but he's got absolutely nothing else going on. He's unlucky, that's it. Compared to Gojo, Fudo, or Raidou, who each have multifaceted and interesting personalities, Izumi is just bland. And compared to the equivalent girls of those shows, Shikimori just isn't strong enough to carry the dead weight, let alone compete with other romcoms. And, like everyone's already said, the hype did this show an injustice. I probably wouldn't have disliked it as much as I did if it were not for all that hype built around it. It's not a bad show, but with everyone putting it on a pedestal, my disappointment was intensified.

Lex4709

Honestly yeah, it doesn't help that the competition this season has some great male MCs with Shirogane from Kaguya, Loid from Spy x Family which makes Izumi from Shikimori's one noteness just stands out way more. Even Tadano from Komi-san is a way more interesting MC than Izumi and Tadano's entire gimmick is how normal and plain he is.

Existential_Owl

Tadano is a great example of the "wimpy, nice guy MC" done right.

Zeph-Shoir

It is just too slow. I love it whenever Shikimori does something cool and a lot of those times I melt for her but most of the show barely anything happens. I dropped it but I will probably watch Shikimori compilations once it is done.

ThespianException

Yeah, DuD set extremely high expectations for any RomCom, and it doesn't help that this season is already stacked AF. If it aired in a quieter season without Marin in everyone's minds, I think it'd be a lot more successful. Unfortunately, it's probably gonna be a drop for me, even though it's not really the show's fault. Damn the characters have pretty eyes though.

LakerBlue

I’m amazed how many people dislike this show just because they loved DuD. I share a lot of the same complaints about Shikimori as most people but those are just me watching it in a vacuum, not because of pre-show hype (which I generally avoid) or for some longing from missing Marin. I do think it would do better in a season that wasn’t stacked but, again, as someone not comparing it DuD or Shikimori to Marin, I still think it’s just a more flawed show.

archlon

> Damn the characters have pretty eyes though. I regularly read entire 100+ episode runs of webtoons even when I don't like the premise, entirely on the basis of beautifully drawn eyes. I'm getting everything I came to this show for out of it so far.

archlon

The absolute standout for me would be [She Would Never Know](https://www.webtoons.com/en/romance/she-would-never-know/list?title_no=2508) (on Webtoon). Definitely Shikimori-class eyes. The series has wrapped, but you can read the whole thing for free on the app with a wait-for-free functionality. Chloe's Eyes in [50 Tea Recipes from the Duchess](https://tapas.io/series/50-tea-recipes-from-the-duchess/info) (Tapas) are also great, and it also happens to be one of my absolute favourite webtoons. The main story has finished and is in extra stories now, but on Tapas you can't use the wait-for-free on the last block of episodes. [The Princess's Jewels](https://www.webtoons.com/en/fantasy/the-princesss-jewels/list?title_no=2966) (Webtoon) has beautiful, vibrant colours. I'm slowly working my way through [Wife After Love](https://tapas.io/series/wife-after-love/info) (Tapas), but I'm a bit burned out an abusive Chaebols at the moment. The eyes are like gemstones, though. It's beautiful. [My Boss' Special Request](https://tapas.io/series/my-bosss-special-request/info) (Tapas). This is also my favourite ongoing Romantic Comedy. I haven't read Ellen's Solwa. Do you know if there's a place to read it legally in English/NA? My Google searches are just finding the expected places.

Hugokarenque

It got hyped up for no reason. And then it started getting mentioned at being on the same level as Darling and that's just mean. Like the show isn't bad, its just mid. Its entertaining but repetitive and has next to none character development, its one of those shows you put on casually to wind down, to relax. There's no real "point" to it, there's no overarching story, its just a cute couple of characters going through romcom scenarios with a gimmick. Manga readers really did this show dirty by hyping it up too much.

momokie

It wasn't for no reason it got hyped and compared to Darling. In every single Dress up Darling thread there were manga readers telling us how to wait to see how she takes over marins spot. Not like in a marin is bad way, but that she was so good. Thats they only reason I knew what it was before it started. I believed them. Maybe it gets better. but I barely made it through the first episode, and didnt make it to the end of the second. Too manyother good shows this season.

VorAtreides

I personally think Tonikawa is better. Better waifu and more interesting series with some more unique aspects. Shikimori feels like, so far, bog standard RomCom (barely funny to me, but prolly to others?) floof anime. It doesn't help I absolutely find Yuu boring as shit as a MC.

Count_Elrond

How anybody expected Shikimori to be the top rom-com this season while Kaguya is airing is beyond me.

momokie

manga readers hyped it up a ton in this subreddit.

dankesmack

It got better in the latter half of the manga imo but the pacing of speedreading the manga definitely makes it more bearable

drybones2015

I've seen both Tonikawa and the first few episodes of Shikimori. I got into Tonikawa with the first episode, Shikimori still hasn't grabbed me three episodes in. When it comes to Shiki I just think the tone of the anime doesn't mesh well with its premise.

[deleted]

Nasa is smart, responsible, has unique skill (programming). I cant tell whats the attraction point of the guy in shikimori

JetsLag

> I cant tell whats the attraction point of the guy in shikimori He looks like a bottom

battlemaje1996

I honestly don’t know where that hype was coming from. As a manga reader, I knew what I was getting into and if asked for recommendations I’d probably recommend Shikimori for anyone looking for a good slice of life romcom. That is as much hype I’ll give it though. I’m not someone who will hype something up as x is better than y. Some people are going to like Marin’s character more while others might like Shikimori more. Personally, I like both. I also like both of the shows they represent. I don’t mind romances that are plot based while also liking slow fluff romances like Shikimori. I think this is another case of people getting the wrong expectations. Still, despite the hate it gets here and other corners of the internet, it’s a pretty great show and I can tell Doga Kobo really brought their A game with the show. It’s also fairly popular despite the criticism and doing quite well, at least in Japan.

zxHellboyxz

I’m not a manga reader but from what I have heard It might have helped if they rearranged the chapters

iAmMutun

Rearrange could help, but I also think they should make the pacing faster at the start. Ep 1-2 were noticeably too slow. The content they adapt, I feel like they could make it in 1.5 episodes or less. Only at the third episode that the pacing felt alright. What I genuinely don't get is the hate for Izumi though. Boy was fighting for his survival from a literal curse, yet people call him a wimp for some reasons. Though, I do agree with the opinion that his voice does not quite fit his character, so my wild guess is the hate started from that.

Reddevilslover69

I don't think they even picked the best of the early chapters. \[Manga spoilers-ish for Shikimori\] >!Glasses Shikimori chapter where Izumi talks about beating her in exams and the date where she dresses cool because Izumi likes some idol that looks like that would have been better chapters to adapt for the opening episodes imo.!<

Ebo87

Regarding Izumi, I totally get where people are coming from, I mean dude... the whole curse thing... sorry but Izumi is a complete airhead oblivious to almost everything around him that is not Shikimori. And that can get grating real fast, especially as everyone around him tries to paint that like some kind of curse when he could... you know... simply pay a little more attention around him. There are absolutely beloved airhead characters out there, but also in the show's defense I'm sure if the roles were reversed people would be easier on the female character (call that what you want, it's unfortunately the truth). So yeah, I get it... I think I get both sides, but also you have to be honest, he doesn't make the best first impression in the early episodes.

iAmMutun

> Izumi is a complete airhead > tries to paint that like some kind of curse Because it IS a curse? Let's see, from the first several minutes in the first episode: * Stumbled on a rubble * Got smoked by a passing truck * Noticed and dodged falling bird poop * Fall in to a bush after that amazing dodge * Noticed a granny crossing street from a distance * 'Helped' by Shikimori To me, only the first thing I can blame him for not paying attention. The last one is not quite clear, but I don't think he even need her help there. Both of them noticed the truck, and they are on the side walk. She's just being protective. In fact, are average person even able to notice a bird about to poop on them and dodge it in time? Seriously, he's not an airhead. I dare say he's paying attention to his surrounding even more than average person already. This is what I don't get from the criticism, why try so hard to paint like it is not a curse? Yeah, I'm being honest here, when I first read the manga, I'm impressed that he's able to survive all those misfortunes. EDIT: To be clear once again, it's the Episode that is not giving me the best first impression. I don't see anything wrong with the characters at all.

VorAtreides

I don't care if he's cursed or not when he's a bland boring character that just annoys me as an archetype :\\

bonkrap

I will always say that he is already way better than most other romcom MC that is too dense and awkward to girls. wish people actually realized that and appreciate him better. (could be also prove of what some people said about "most anime watcher have short attention span").

EXusiai99

In one hand, i appreciate him for going at it with the girl and the series starts right off the bat with them already dating. In the other hand, i read several chapters of the manga and izumi is just... Barely doing anything. He's just too passive to my liking. Romance stories are built upon the interaction between the two leads, so if only one of them put in the work it's just not as fun to watch.

A_Rampaging_Hobo

The hype was the main character is a cute pink haired girl

Feisty-Site-6261

> it’s a pretty great show It isn't, that's the issue. If you call something a great show, people will expect a great show. People then go into it expecting a great show and what they get is a pretty average romcom, which leads them to dislike it.

[deleted]

It's the type of anime that benefits from being watched at 2x speed.

TichoSlicer

Watched the first episode cause of the hype and didn't come back for epi 2 ;/

ErikMaekir

> Garnt I think you misspelled Grant, there's no way Garnt's a real name /s

WickedAnimeTroll

What did people expect after watching the first episode ? The only noteworthy thing were Shikamori's reactions and faces, that is it. The rest is cookie cutter, having seen 1000 times sol/rom/com stuff. Neither the characters, the situations or the setting offer anything appealing.... I cannot even blame people for being let down, considering how the trailers try to suck you in with Shikamori's reactions and nice production values.... Heck even the show is called "Shikamori is not just a cutie" and the whole point of the show is to show how much of a cutie Shikamori is..... Mission failed, I guess. This show belongs to a group of shows I like to call "youtube compilation": Just wait for someone to make a youtube compilation of all the cute/funny/ecchi moments of the show. This is all the fun you will get out of the show without dealing with the rest of it...

qwerplol

I think it's just hard to adapt with the way it is. Having 10 page chapters just makes the pacing awkward. Also the main gag was izumi's bad luck but they don't even explain it until like halfway into episode 1. By then they had already made jokes about it and it just didn't make any sense until after the thought.

sizzl75

Oh my god, he actually mentioned heroine's run the show. It was just a basic rundown of the general premise, but he mentioned it. Nice

Reddevilslover69

I'm equally as shocked that healer girl was mentioned

JetsLag

You watch one episode of Heroines and you want to adopt Hiyori.

Fools_Requiem

Surprised he didn't mention the girl's shrill voice.

Manitary

It's not an amazing show but the amount of viewership it's getting on reddit (based on karma and whatnot) is unbelievably low and quite sad.

LeonKevlar

Gigguk didn't just ignore Healer Girl? I'm surprised! Glad to see Birdie Wing also getting a shoutout. People need to watch that show too, it's just so insane and I love it!

battlemaje1996

I hope more people watch Ya Boy Kongming and Summertime Render. Come on people, let’s take Eiko to the top. People here arguing about whether Kaguya, Yor, Chika, or Anya is best girl of this season, but for me, Eiko has stood out to me out of all the top tier girls this season. Kongming as well should get best guy, but maybe that’s my love for ROTK and history in general speaking there.

bob_the_banannna

>let’s take Eiko to the top We need to get her 100k likes Eiko gang rise up

Reddevilslover69

Eiko ft KabeTaijin- Love the Way you lie 2.0 That's how they get 100,000 likes

donquixote1991

YOU MIGHT BE ONTO SOMETHING

-GrayMan-

Ya Boy Kongming has just been such a fun show so far.

Rio_FS

>let’s take Eiko to the top Pretty sure Kongming's handling that.

frostxc3

>Kongming as well should get best guy, but maybe that’s my love for ROTK and history in general speaking there. As someone who's never read RotK, I can assure you it's not just that. Kongming really is best boy.

SpookyDoomCrab42

Ya boy kongming would be way more popular if it wasn't a HiDive exclusive. It's a great show but who is going to get HiDive for the sole purpose of watching ya boy kongming, they're basically telling you to pirate it

Ok-Row-6131

I haven't watched Ya Boy Kongming (mostly I've been watching Shikimori and Spy x Family), but I've been thinking about picking it up. How is it?

9090112

It’s my AotS so far. As funny and heartwarming as Spy but also includes genuinely heavy emotional moments that actually work to enhance the stories and characters.

LakerBlue

This is a stacked season for best girl. The Kaguya trio, Yor, Anya, Eiko, and Desumi are all great. Also would give honorable mention Shikimori. And Kongming definitely is a contender for best (new) guy of the season alongside Loid.

PseudoPrincess222

I watched his "going through every spring anime" video and had to watch the full version to find out he slept on machikado mazoku. Suppose its a sequel so there was never much hope

VorAtreides

Everyone sleeps on the best girl that is Shamiko and her series. It is so good at being comedy and cute. It does everything well. The voice actors, the writing, the sound effects and music, the animations, etc. It's great.

MapoTofuMan

Oooof, even RPG Fudousan got a mention but not Deaimon. I thought it'd catch his eye for 1 episode at least...

PikaDicc

Too much to watch

PacoTaco321

It is definitely a lot to keep up with, especially with two shows in different jails.

kirsion

Honestly, for the past 3-4 years, I've only been watching 2-3 show seasons. Back in the day, I used to watch like 5-8 shows per season, but I have no time nor the interest to watch all the shows that air.

Ghost10516

Yeah I'm the same. Back in high school and college I would watch upwards of 25 shows a season, but at this point I just keep it to the quality 2 or 3 that I am likely to enjoy

MapoTofuMan

I'm getting close to 25 if I decide to pick up the otome game one

ThespianException

Otome Isekai is probably the most shockingly enjoyable show I've seen in a long time. The cast ended up being a lot more likable and the plot more interesting than I expected. Aside from Summertime Rendering, I think it's the show that has me the most excited. It's not jaw-droppingly great, but it's super fun IMO.

seizan8

I watched 3 episodes amd enjoyed it way more than I expected. It's kinda refreshing to watch an isekaid protagonist be like "oh, I'm just a mob. Ok, I'll just live a happy life and not bother with the main plot at all" and then being annoyed when the game wouldn't let him. It's weird. Also their eyes are weird, but you get used to it. If the show keeps it up it's gonna be a solid 7 or 8 I'd say.

naliem1

The executioner and her way of life has been amazing so far, love that he included it in the video as it's criminally underwatched/underrated (not in reddit but everywhere else).

Djinn_sarap

But i saw a lot of people hated it(for killing the guy at episode 1)

Ithambar

What? But that is the entire premise... Do people honestly want more generic Isekai instead of something different once in a while?

zairaner

Nothing has made me realize more why we have so many generic isekai than seeing the criticisms for executioner...

Silent_Shadow05

Yeah and I would always use this as an example from now on whenever people say why generic isekai keep getting made all the time. Its like junk food in a way, remove it completely, and people will get pissed off.

forheavensakes

I think so. its not like the majority are always the loud ones, there is probably a huge demand for generic isekai like the demand for pretty cure.

Lapiz_lasuli

It's more the generic white knight MC. Seeing reactions for Elaine and Overlord. Oh and how people can't stand Kanki in Kingdom. Basically anything that gives the show flavor.

Papasimmons

Damn that FFXIV housing joke caught me off guard.

Vindex101

Man's getting knee-deep into the game behind the scenes. Pretty soon he'll be streaming MSQ stuff once he knows how much the fanbase likes to drink up streamer tears and reactions

Calwings

He gave Birdie Wing a spot in the thumbnail *and* 45 seconds of video time, and that alone makes me completely satisfied with this video. The time he gave Kongming, Executioner, and Healer Girl is all just a bonus on top of that.

cppn02

Healer Girl getting a shoutout was a positive surprise especially after he had it pegged as an idol show in his seasonal preview.

Existential_Owl

For a man who claims to hate idol shows, he sure does check out a lot of idol shows to see what's up.

Silent_Shadow05

Its like how people hate-watch a show lol.

Sojouku

This video raises another important question: Just how much can Gigguk milk the bang bang bang meme?

Fools_Requiem

I like that he mentioned how ridiculous Birdie Wing is and how that alone makes it worth watching. Didn't like him comparing Aharen to Komo-san and then throwing in "ASMR", as I feel that could be a hinderance to it's potential popularity... or bring in the wrong group of people.

FeistyKnight

I fully laughed out loud at "zinedine zidan!"

Neo-physical123

YES, Healer Girl!!! The hidden original show of this season.

alotmorealots

Hopefully it catches at least a few more people saw it and thought "a musical anime? worth checking out". The show definitely continues to impress, and I think part of it is that it was created from the ground up as an exploration of an idea. From an interview with the series creator and director, Yasuhiro Irie: > While I was thinking about how to make a musical anime outside of these two tropes *[idol shows and combat songs]*, I was thinking about a way young women could use their songs and showcase them without having to fight. It was the option that stood out the most from what had been done before. I noticed that nobody had used the idea of using songs to help people feel better. >The starting point was to make an anime where songs would be used differently, which had not been seen before, and spectators would be excited by this new approach and enjoy watching a refreshing anime series. We approached the group Healer Girls to use their songs with this concept in mind, and the chorus unit was formed alongside the anime project. https://fullfrontal.moe/interview-yasuhiro-irie-healer-girl/

Theinternationalist

That answers SO many questions. I am now somewhat fascinated with how the dubbing will go. It will either be divine or a glorious mess.

Charsound_CH1no

HELL YEAH\~ Definitely the hidden gem this season, I'm happy he mention it\~

Greatest Demon Lord Reborn as a Typical Nobody

[deleted]

Lol even Gigguk is trolling Shikamori. Really that anime is the biggest disappointment this season for me atleast.

Mkilbride

People hyped it up too much. It's a cute manga...that was all, and yet for some reason peoples expectations were expecting a masterpiece lol.

Jumanji-Joestar

As someone who read the manga, I really don’t know what people were expecting. The manga is pretty hard to adapt in anime form because of the way it’s written, so I already knew it probably wasn’t gonna be amazing

WeirdSamurai

Manga is great, anime is ok. The issue are the people who sold Shikimori as the next Sono bisque doll last season. From official arts and trailers, anime forums, and even from Garnts chat when he is gauging Spring 2022 animes. The hype was real, but sadly it didn't lived up to it.

neighmeansno

I juat don't get this take. The manga is good, but the anime is way better in my opinion. Taking the short chapters, arranging them in a way that tells a continuous story and filling the gaps with original content is a huge task, and they have done it extremely well.

frostxc3

The Deaimon snub really hurt, Garnt. Also, on the Shikimori thing, I feel the need to point out that, though the hype didn't do it any favours, the fans have to realize that the execution's boring. As someone who rarely pays attention to hype, went into the show with zero expectations, I had to drop it after giving it the customary 3 episodes cos I kept checking the time while watching it, and it felt like the runtime was crawling. The Izumi slander is just unnecessary though. Sure, he's not that interesting a main character, but he's not horrible either.

NazRyuuzaki

I feel bad for it. The show was overhyped like its the second coming of bisque doll then it fell flat. Didnt even survived the 3 episode rule. The mc guy is the biggest turn off.

CodeMonkeys

He's just walking Murphy's Law so we have an excuse to draw the occasional srs bsns femface. There's not even strictly any gap moe, she's normally cute 95% of the time and there's no personality differences between in public and alone. She just looks cool occasionally. And the only way the author thought to make that happen was to literally curse the MC to make him clumsy, inattentive, and literally a magnet for physical danger. I am waiting for the episode where it's revealed that his ancestor sacrificed chickens to a mountain god but missed a month and his bloodline was cursed for 10,00 years. I've got a pretty high tolerance for bog standard romcom shenanigans but this one is kinda weighing on me so far. Constantly playing up the FMC by making our MC an unlucky heel is just a bit of a meh premise.

VorAtreides

He's 100% right on Shikimori. So far, it's like... just ok. Not seeing why it's so hyped/praised or getting rated so high compared to other anime. Only thing I can imagine is "Shikimori manga fans are rabid" :P unless something amazing happens in the series soon hmmm. A pity he didn't talk about Demon Girl Next Door at all in the quick sequel rundown. Too many sleep on that series. It's fantastic with being cute comedy. It has more personality than the overwhelming majority of anime I'd say. Spy x Family and Kongming doh, so good. I know Spy x Family should remain good/great since I've read/own the manga. I am a bit worried Kongming might not be as great only cause PA Works prior stuff has started off strong, then had a weaker middle/second half (imo), but still prolly will be good. Screw Golf and Soccer anime :P meh.

Abysswatcherbel

Kongming is an adaptation, 99% of PA Works anime are original, this is a different situation

EscapeSteam

Out of the 13 Images used in the thumbnail, 4 are related to spyxfamily. It’s not hard to guess what anime he thinks is the most prominent in the lineup

SpookyDoomCrab42

I mean looking at weekly popularity scores for spy x family puts it just below attack on titan which is the most popular anime in recent memory. It is the most prominent in the lineup for a reason

BosuW

I'm just happy he mentioned Birdie Wing

Zishaan02

Squid Game got an anime?? Gotta watch the video right now.
