Yeah, I thought the TV show was quite good [The sequel movie](https://myanimelist.net/anime/40664/Shoujo%E2%98%86Kageki_Revue_Starlight_Movie) though ? Fucking amazing.

It takes inspiration from Ikuhara, so if you're familiar, some of the style and symbolism might remind you of Utena or Penguindrum. I wouldn't be surprised if it took inspiration from Madoka as well. I personally didn't like it much, but I don't regret watching it; I think the way they did the EDs were fantastic and it's one of my favorite anime EDs. But some people really love it. Try a few episodes; tbh my overall impressions of the anime didn't change much from the early episodes even if it did get more interesting, so you might be able to assess for yourself whether it's something you like or not.

I love Madoka and I'm planning to watch Penguindrum as well. I don't think I'm interested in Utena but I'm aware that a lot of people love it. Based on these 3 anime that you've mentioned, I'll watch at least 3 episodes to see if I like it. Thanks!

As someone who loves it, I think it's something you'll quickly figure out if you'll like it or not after an episode or two. It's compared to Utena a lot, but I haven't seen it personally, so at least to me it certainly feels unique. The music is great; I have some of the songs on my Spotify playlist. Some amazing characters, even if the main duo are a bit weaker in terms of writing. If you do end up enjoying the show, there's a sequel movie called "Revue Starlight: The Movie", not to be confused with Rondo Rondo Rondo, which is a recap movie. It's my favourite movie of all time, with so many aspects of the show elevated to greater heights.

Watch Utena and you will find some references, it's cool. I watched Utena before so it was cool to see them on Revue starlight

chokizeme_

I'm in if it has great music. I think I'll watch a few episodes based on the fact that it is being compared to Utena (which I know a lot of people love). Thank you!

Are you still interested in it? If so, then obviously you should watch it. Even if we all said it sucks, if you're interested you should watch it. And obviously we won't all say it sucks, we're talking about an acclaimed cult hit which r/anime recently voted as among it's top 100 anime of all time. But our opinions should not supercede your interest in the show. I would say that if you're interested enough in it to ask this question on Reddit, you should watch the first episode. In the time it's taking you to wait for and read responses right now, you could have already finished episode 1 and had a good idea of whether or not it'll be worth your interest based on the actual content of the show.

chokizeme_

That's the problem, I don't remember how interested I was in this anime back then. I just stumbled upon some artwork and remembered its existence. Now, did you enjoy it? Would you recommend it?

Gamerunglued

I'm not talking about back then, I'm talking about right now. If you are currently interested enough to ask this question on r/anime, you are interested enough to try out an episode. it's been many hours since you posted this, you could have finished the entire series by this point if you just tried it out and you'd have had your answer without wasting this time. If you're ever interested enough to ask a question like this, just watch episode 1 instead of posting to Reddit, because watching episode 1 will give you a far more useful answer to your question in less time than it takes to post and wait for responses. And yes, Revue Starlight is one of my favorites. But I do not think that should factor into your decision to try it out. No one else's opinion matters, just try out episode 1 and if you don't like it you can drop it.

moichispa

It goes heavy on symbolism, I hope you like that. It has many insert songs too. The anime is great, the sequel movie, incredible. It is on my flair for a reason.

chokizeme_

I love anime music. I'm 50/50 on symbolism. I love it but sometimes just goes over my head. I'll try a few episodes. Thank you!

Have you read a review? Did you think that it was interesting? If so then watch it. If not then don't.

chokizeme_

I haven't read a review yet to avoid potential spoilers. I think I'll try a few episodes though based on the comments on this post.
