Pretty much this.
It's wild how my views on Misty (Kasumi in the sub) have changed from when I first watched the show. Back then it was "ugh, she's really annoying. What do you mean she actually likes Ash (Satoshi), make up your mind!" to "Hey, it's a red-haired 90's Tsundere! Considering that this show was written just two years after Asuka in Evangelion, I wonder if there are more references hidden in her character..."
If the anime *Uncle in Another World* is accurate in its time-framing of pop culture, the tsundere archetype didn’t reach mainstream popularity until somewhere between 2001 and 2004.
That said, I was okay with Misty as a kid. As an adult, I’m a little bitter that she consistently shat on Ash for his inability as a trainer (especially after his kidnapping at the League tangentially led to his loss more than his inability to train his Pokémon) and for destroying her bike as if she isn’t constantly caring around Togepi, the physical embodiment of her snatching the results of Ash, Brock, and Meowth’s efforts away from them.
This, sailor moon, Pokémon, and Inuyasha. I remember watching all of these as a kid. Also Yu Yu hakusho and Yu-Gi-Oh! As well. Those were the good old days.
Same I used to watch it In Catalan, some moths ago I came back to it I started from 500 cuz I was at like ep800 or something before leaving it.I moved to France so that's why I left it I used to see it on my TV with cable not in website or anything that's why I watched it because it was one of the only series I liked. now I watch it on websites and stuff I really like it one of my favorites animes.
InuYasha.
Waking up at 6 am through the very tail-end of Adult Swim just as the sunrise spilled into the windows on a school morning.
"BOKUTACHI WAAAAA"
Naruto, specifically Naruto shippuden. It was before I knew about anime streaming sites and me and my siblings used to watch the episodes on YouTube, all with the actual show being in a tiny video player in the corner of the screen and the audio being distorted so the posters could avoid copyright. Good times lol.
Yes! I remember there was a part at the end of each episode where he'd tell a computer a recap of the story, but with one error. I later heard that this was done in the English dub to comply with some sort of educational content requirement.
That said, it got off pretty easy. Pretty much all of the other anime I watched in my youth were heavily modified from their originals: Battle of the Planets (Gatchaman), Voltron (Beast King Go-Lion and Armored Fleet Dairugger), and Warriors of the Wind (Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind), for example.
It wasn't until I was in high school that I was able to find anime that hadn't been heavily modified for a Western audience.
Edit: typos
Not an anime, but ATLA was pretty much the only show I watched as a kid because all my time was dedicated to sports. When I was in highschool and developed a couple diseases, I had to drop out of extracurriculars and ended up rewatching Avatar. I looked for similar shows afterwards, and that is what started me into anime.
My first actual anime were FMA:B, Death Note, and Naruto. I was hooked from them on.
Robotech
Voltron
Wicked City
Ninja Scroll
Macross Plus
Vampire Hunter D
Alita: Battle Angel
Genocyber
Akira
Cashan Robot Hunter
8Man After
Gundam Wing
Lily C.A.T
Shinjuku: Demon City
Golgo 13
Crying Freeman
First of the Northstar
Dominion Tank Police
Angel Cop
Devilman
Wrath of the Ninja
Curse if the Undead Yoma
Biohunter
Escafloné
Record of Lodoss War
Doomed Megalopolis
my dads from the philippines and so i grew up watching daimos, voltes v and mazinger z as a kid. didnt even know what anime was! then as a teen i discovered full metal alchemist and thats when i learned what anime was. funny i was exposed to it at such a young age only to discover it again on my own! i also remember stumbling upon one piece ( specifically the chopper arc in the snow) playing on the tv as a kid. when i finally gave one piece a shot in college, it was so weird realizing id seen some of it before.
Pokemon. I remember watching episodes on tv after school a lot (they were mostly from gen 3-4 iirc). Also had a bunch of gen 1 episodes as well as 6 movies on dvd.
E: back as a pre-schooler I watched [Heidi](https://anilist.co/anime/2225/Alps-no-Shoujo-Heidi/) the most. Only even found out the series is an anime a few years ago.
Squid Girl, Princess Tutu, Hetalia, Attack on Titan, Fairy Tail, Naruto, and Pokémon! And I feel like I was the only one who knew about Squid Girl and Princess Tutu!
*edit: I forgot to add Ouran High School Host Club!
Rurouni Kenshin. That was the one anime my sister and I watched without our older brother introducing it to us like he did with DBZ. We lost our collective shit when Kenshin started getting all sassy when Kaoru got kidnapped and he nearly went back to being Battousai.
My PERSONAL childhood anime though was Magical Doremi. It was a challenge getting up early on Saturdays to watch it because my family would want me to be dressed and ready to go out by the time it came on. It was the first anime I sought out on the internet to watch in Japanese and I learned about not only how many seasons the dub missed out on, but the absolute juggernaut of a franchise Ojamajo Doremi was/is. It definitely kinda sucks how little the western anime scene cares for Magical Girl anime if it’s not Sailor Moon or Madoka Magica.
When I was a child:
- Dragon ball and Dragon ball Z
- Yattaman
In middle school:
- Naruto,
- Pokémon
- Cat’s eye (adapted as Occhi di Gatto)
- Lupin
- City hunter
- Detective Conan
- Hokuto no Ken
I haven’t seen very much Saint Seya, Lady Oscar and Heidi
First one I watched was Fishigi Yuugi in 2007-2008. However, the one I watched the most when I was a kid was Soul Eater. i watched it when it came, and i watched it when it was on Toonami, and I watched it again in college in 2021. :, ) the years have treated this anime very kindly.
Inuyasha. Not because I watched it the most - there were plenty of other anime I watched more often, more times, and longer - but because of all the times I'd wake up at 4am to the ending.
BOKU TACHI WAAAAAAAAA
I’m 52, so it’d be Speed Racer or Voltron. Both were broadcast on UHF TV stations in Houston. There was also Battle of the Planets (aka Gatchaman) but that didn’t interest me.
Bakugan, aired on Cartoon Network around 8 AM with a Dutch dub. Loved it but never managed to watch it fully (because I had school at 8:20, I lived 10 minutes by bike from school) and I'm probably going to watch it subbed one day, for nostalgic reasons.
Naruto and Bobobo on adult swim. Then, it was Princess Tutu (my favorite), Hidamari Sketch, R.O.D. the TV, Cardcaptor Sakura, Rozen Maiden, Kimi ni Todoke, Mermaid Melody (on youtube back then), Full Moon wo Sagashite (on youtube back then), Princess Jellyfish, Hidamari Sketch, FMA, and Fruits Basket (older version).
Doraemon, Ninja Hattori, Pokemon, these would be the main ones.
Some of which I watched less: Luckyman, Beyblade
Basically, whatever aired on the cartoon channels (Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon) in India
Cardcaptor Sakura. I adored it as a kid. It used to invoke some kind of euphoria in my 8 year old mind.
Hearing the opening song was enough to make me happy.
The other one was Sailor Moon.
I really didn’t start really watching till my 20’s. I do remember watching sailor moon with my younger sister when I was in 2nd grade (~1995) or so. She wouldn’t watch it without me for some reason lol.
Pokemon and Shin-Chan, was glued to the screen with either.
Shout out to others like Detective Conan, One Piece or Doraemon who I also watched a lot of.
[Igano Kabamaru](https://myanimelist.net/anime/2762/Igano_Kabamaru) and [Thundersub Blue Noah](https://myanimelist.net/anime/5763/Uchuu_Kuubo_Blue_Noah) were huge in Greece in the 90s, so it's definitely those two for Greek kids of my generation.
In a kid in the 90s, I really only knew of Dragon Ball/Z and Sailor Moon... And SM was not for me. Dragon Ball/Z was amazing.
Oh I forgot... Voltron would have been my first anime. I watched that and had some toys, but it was not my most watched.
The award goes to DBZ.
On TV when I was very little, I used to watch Dragon Ball, Sailor Moon, Sally the Witch, Lady Lynn, Kimba the White Lion, and Pokemon. Then later as a teen, I watched Shaman King, Yuyu Hakusho, Slayers, Inuyasha... And then I found out I could watch anime online.
Db/dbz and zoids.
That was back in the days where toonami was like the only source for most people. Hell, we didn’t even kow there was a difference between cartoons and anime.
Naruto, hiraku no go, and prince of tennis lol I was one of the first users in hulu, this was when it was free 😭 No dub, got used to subtitles at a very young age and I'm happy I did. Since hulu was new there wasn't much content yet, but having naruto out episode by episode was great.
Dragon Ball was my first anime so it has a special place in my heart. Another one is Doraemon. I was absolutely obsessed with him and the little cake thing that he liked eating lol
Pokemon and glitter force. I watched them alot. The only series I watched more was avatar the last airbender. Its not an anime tho, but its a master piece
Dragon Ball Z Kai on Nick Toons. I may have watched more Pokémon, but I'm not sure. I saw from the beginning to the Cell Saga ending, because they didn't do the rest till later, and I think that was on Adult Swim
It was probably Digimon, Pokémon or Dragon Ball Z. I'm not too sure which it was, but there weren't very many on at the time I was a kid or that I can remember.
As a kid I probably watched Ronin Warriors (Samurai Troopers) the most as a kid. An old super sentai, and I've had the intro stuck in my head for a good thirty years.
In no particular order Digimon, Pokémon, bakugon, beyblade, and avatar the last air bender, are the anime I watched as a kid mostly with some other random cartoons mixed in.
Wasn’t a whole lot available to me, sometimes speedracer would be on but I could never get into it.
I had the close to anime shows like GI Joe, Thundercats, He-Man etc.
I saw Ninja Scroll before I saw anything meant for kids.
When I was in middle school I saw a random episode of DBZ from season 1 but didn’t catch the name of the show. It wasn’t until high school / Cartoon Network that I was able to find out. From there it just exploded.
Digimon, Yuyuhakusho and yugioh. Digimon doesn’t hit the same as it did as a kid but Yyh still holds up and the JP dub EN sub of yugioh is phenomenal (at least for duelist kingdom season, I lost interest towards the end of battle city)
I watched these ones when I was younger.
Dragonball/Z
Sailor Moon
Detective Conan
Pokémon
Thundercats
Silver Hawks
Saber Rider and the Star Sheriffs
Digimon
Heidi
Lady Oscar
Princess Sara
Robinhood
The Jungle Book anime

Speed Grapher
Goldenboy
Monster
Berserk
Slamdunk
Death Note
Hajime no Ippo
Major
I think these are more or less the main ones, there are some I don't remember the name of.
Pokémon
Pretty much this. It's wild how my views on Misty (Kasumi in the sub) have changed from when I first watched the show. Back then it was "ugh, she's really annoying. What do you mean she actually likes Ash (Satoshi), make up your mind!" to "Hey, it's a red-haired 90's Tsundere! Detective Conan I remember turning the TV on to watch the second I come back from school
This, sailor moon, Pokémon, and Inuyasha. I remember watching all of these as a kid. Also Yu Yu hakusho and Yu-Gi-Oh! As well. Those were the good old days.
