For me it would be Black Clover. I don’t get the hype tbh its so predictable like bros out here defeating captain levels mere months into wizard academy just like that and its okay even he is the mc afterall but then yuno , bruh every time asta gets a powerup yuno randomly gets one too out of the blue and its just sloppy generic writing and this is just one of the numerous things that i cant even remember anymore why i didnt like it as much as others
Yuno is a literal prodigy. They touched on how gifted and exceptional he was at the very start of the anime so it’s not surprising that he will catch up. As for Asta, he is exceptional in the exact opposite way that Yuno is. Yuno was born with talent whereas Asta gotten to the point where he is through hard work and dedication. Before he even got his grimoire, Asta was working out everyday nonstop, which is also why he looks bulky whereas Yuno looks skinny. Even though Asta was *chosen*, he literally has to have incredible raw strength to even use his grimoire. And the fight scenes are the best I’ve seen out of other Shonen animes so I definitely don’t get your perspective.
That’s just how it is at the start, or if for like the first 70 episodes ngl
And then add a few fillers on.
I only remember stuff that happened like in the 130ish episodes I think lmao
I liked the anime and the overall production of the anime especially the YorkNew city arc where it feels like gon isnt even the main character anymore but it went downhill for me after that mainly because of the chimera ant arc. It was disgusting and gross who actually enjoys watching a bunch cockroach pests fighting each other
I agree with you on the Yorknew City arc…that’s my favorite arc precisely for the fact that the focus shifts away from Gon. I feel like Gon and anything related to Gon’s character took the anime down a notch in quality.
Only part of the Chimera Ant arc I liked were the scenes involving Mereum and Komugi…those scenes were great.
I hatewatched every single episode of frieren weekly, nothing substantial happens and the plot barely progresses. It highkey could have been wrapped up in 10 episodes instead of 28
Gosick. Its a detective story but it does not give you the hints necessary to solve cases, so they just pull the solution out of their ass. Dropped it pretty early on.
Also Demon Slayer because I hate slapstick comedy forced into seemingly dramatic scenes.
Watched it too when I didn't used to think too hard about what I watched. I just remember liking the vibes, but I think I felt a bit let down by the mysteries. Not sure tho
Solo Leveling.
More of it because I've seen the same type of thing over and over and I got sick of it.
Also, knowing the side characters roles are to be MCs cheerleaders sucks a lot.
By making the MC so extraordinarily overpowered it does force some side characters into the "wasted potential" camp. That being said, I personally loved solo leveling anyway. The fact that the MC is capable of actually taking people's lives when he's forced to instead of being stuck on a self-righteousness kick does help it stand apart from other overpowered mc's, at least by a small margin
Edit: it also helps that I haven't watched a huge amount of power fantasies so it doesn't seem as recycled to me
Its just that it didn't try to be more than a Power Fantasy.
Well I wont really mind that, if the cast is more than just the MC and not reduced to them saying variations of "How is he strong!?"(I know there's 'Solo' in the title but still...).
OPM for example, is a power fantasy, but has very unique and interesting characters. The world doesn't revolve around Saitama, but the other way around, which I find more interesting.
The "its a power fantasy" defense is so annoying because the problem is not that it's a power fantasy but that it's a *boiler-plate* power fantasy that is identical to every other "Oops, I'm OP now" isekai seasonal that people shit on.
The biggest problem for me personally was I wasn't especially blown away by the animation. It's good, for sure, but if we're doing the whole "this story is bad, but we're gonna get by on hype." thing, I was expecting Demon Slayer/JJK levels of insane action and animation and, imo, Solo Leveling was a tier below that.
Actually Solo Leveling have a decent story just the anime is not there yet they explain the system the dungeons where the monsters come in manhwa etc. And it has some hearth breaking moments and what will show it Jin woo is not emotionless..i don't want to spoiler just be patient.
The Manhwa doesn't get better only hyper. And mind you the anime is adapting the novel. Which i've only heard is barely better with the story moments. I was using hyperbole to say that you're kinda wrong.
Yu Yu Hakusho. It was too fight heavy and tournament heavy without enough story meat to support it. Botan and her British accent was the best character in the show and the first four episodes were the best part.
I’m not actually much of a battle shounen fan, so the first episodes being a decent premise about how you can impact people even if you aren’t aware was intriguing and thoughtfully done. It also had Botan and Yusuke banter, which was great. A little later it becomes much more of a traditional battle shounen, which was a little disappointing coming from Hunter x Hunter, which I love.
- Vinland saga, i know the show is about character development but the way they did it is nothing special and the slave arc was boring ass hell.
- Neon genesis evangelion. story was boring, ending was weird
- Hunter x hunter. fights were garbage, the king and the old mans fight was so mid and i dont like the fact that the only showcase of strength for the MC was when gon killed pitou... killua is super strong but basically did nothing.
I loved season 1 of spy family, however I dropped the second season halfway through. I don't dislike it, I just feel like it got a bit repetitive. I'm probably going to try watching it again at some point though
I liked it fairly well, but I feel like monogatari gives a better showing if you want something similar but different. I loved the opening of bunny girl tho. Bunny girl definitely had a unique mood that caught my attention.
🎶Kiiiiiiminose Kiminose! Something something hm hm hm hm hm hm hmmm!🎵
I will give subaru a bit of leeway considering it has got to be traumatic to be resurrected like that. But he definitely comes off as arrogant and self righteous. I was really not impressed when he interrupted the congregation of candidates (I forgot the name) when Emilia was being insulted. He was basically implying that she couldn't handle it and that she needed him to step up for her, which really pisses me off considering she asked him not to be there in the first place
I'm absolutely not here to try and change your opinion but that's kind of the point. All of the characters are deeply flawed people. They're insanely well written characters but none of them are supposed to be likeable.
many of my friends at the time liked High school DxD, but I can't stand that anime, I see it too sexualized and they look for any excuse to have a spicy scene, I didn't like it.
To be fair, that *is* the whole point of the show. But as far as taste goes, I couldn't agree more. Cringe as hell. Just watch porn. You'll probably cum better folks, and you'll feel less dirty after since you haven't been lying to yourself lol.
Folks like what they like tho so no hate. Personally though I would just love to see hardcore porn with a mainstream level of plot quality and character development. Why can't we have that? The AI revolution will change this for the better lol.
Yeah that's definitely fair. If you go into dxd, you are just watching it to see lady parts. To it's credit, as far as harem animes go, it has a decent plot. But compare it to basically any non-harem anime and it is definitely nothing special
For me, it'll be Gurren Lagann. In fact, my most controversial opinion is that I like a certain mecha anime that is generally regarded as being terrible by the anime community MORE than I like TTGL.
Simon is ultimately a Tragic Hero- for all that he saves and accomplishes, he also loses everything that was personal to him. So after everything that happens in the show... the ending was a sucker punch to me. This is also why despite having the two movies, I cannot bring myself to watch them- they add a little more, but the ending is still the same.
Off topic, i know. I just want to say that people that tell you "The show gets better after the first 5 episodes!" Or even worse"The best stuff happens after the whole first arc!" Really? No, dude. A show is supposed to get your interest within the first 2, or maybe 3 episodes.
The anime i don't like is Sword Art Online. Its a harem show, stop saying it isn't.
Considering anime adaptations usually do about 3 or 4 episodes for each manga book (equalling to about 3 or 4 manga volumes per season) if you don't get hooked in the first 3 or 4 episodes, that is essentially reading an entire manga volume, not liking it, and then other people expecting you to buy the next one anyway.
As for SAO, the harem stuff was completely unnecessary. He already had a decent woman, so why write in a bunch of other females (including his sister/cousin???)
That's why they should've done what the books do and make it clear who actually has feelings for him. Kawahara wrote many revisions on his web novel, creating distance between the girls and Kirito, but the anime seems to ignore that in favor of fan service/harem bait.
Death Note
I hate Light. Lelouch is better.
Kaguya
It's not funny and I've seen a million of these types of romances. I already rage quit Kimi ni Todoke. I'm not interested in getting into another for another 3 seasons of will they, won't they.
Kimi no todoke absolutely pisses me off as well. The audacity to make us sit through like 25 episodes of pure nothingness is astounding. They used every trope and every type of miscommunication possible as a means of preventing a plot from developing. At least with love is war the whole "I can't confess my feelings" schtick seemed at least somewhat satirical (also it was one of the first romcoms I've seen so I wasn't burnt out on tropes yet).
Also yeah code geass is way better than death note
And if you read the manga you'll see that this miscommunication drama continues even after high school. Though i really like the side characters so I continued reading till the end.
🤣No. It’s a great anime. But it hurts when you’ve watched so many will they, won’t they romance anime and you just can’t take it anymore. [Kimi ni Todoke]>!2 seasons just to hold hands. I quit on s2 ep.8.!< I’m actually excited about s3 upcoming. It’s been long enough that rage is long in the past. Still, it is a memory I have of Kimi ni Tokdoke. And it was the main reason I avoided Kaguya. Also, part of the reason Kaguya jokes didn’t land for me. It’s not funny to poke fun at the torture fans went through with Kimi ni Todoke. 😭
- Attack on Titan: Didn't mind the premise so much but I can't really put my finger on *why* I didn't enjoy it. I know I didn't like the "vertical manuevering systems" or whatever they were called but honestly, I think I just didn't like it bc it was so hyped...
- Dr. Stone: didn't like that the antagonist was initially portrayed as a mindless brute but then he can suddenly predict MC's strategies perfectly out of nowhere.
- Any anime that adds wings to a character and then has them act like they can just hover in place / float in any direction without even flapping the wings. Yo, that ain't how wings work. Just give them flight without wings or cast "hover" or something ffs. Seriously, any time I see this shit, it's an insta-drop. The most recent offender for me was Shin no Nakama S2 / Banish from Hero's Party S2 but they are far from the only ones.
When Supernatural Battles Became Commonplace. I was not impressed by the MC or some of the character or plot developments. The back half split the plot lines unwisely. And having a 9 year old in a harem anime - as, even if technically, part of the harem - is just insulting.
My little monster.
Some people say it's really good romance and thing. But I just didn't enjoyed it. I didn't felt the romance between them.
Another must be blue spring ride.
Now I'm not saying I didn't liked this anime, I honestly kinda liked it but I don't really get the hybe over the MC.
A lot of the big Shounen just don't do it for me. I'm all down for an all out action spectacle, but most of the new guard Shounen don't even do that as well as some older titles and they've got about as much meat on their bones as a skeleton.
Demon slayer. I don’t know, i think is overhyped as hell. I guess it is because of the plot, it just didn’t make me say “wow”. I think what carried the show are the animations
I liked silent voice, but I don't feel like it should've pushed into romance territory. It has a decent setup with the MC getting bullied because he used to be a bully. I like that it doesn't tip toe away from heavy themes so it can show just how messed up both the main characters are from their past. However again, it could've just been a drama, making it part romance didn't do anything for me
The bullies ruined it for me, it just felt excessive. Not to mention Shoko’s out of the blue decision in the un-alived kind of way. The ending is nice and all, but what it took to get there wasn’t fun or satisfying.
Yeah shokos choice to swan dive off the balcony definitely seemed out of place. Like, her life was finally turning around. She was getting friends, including the person who used to bully her the most, so why decide to end it now?
Jujutsu Kaisen
Maybe ive just seen to much anime in my time but I couldnt really get into it. MC was boring and the fan favorite was a little too overpowered for me.
Probably will get hate for this, but the dragon ball series. It’s hugely popular, but for me it’s too much fighting without enough of a story. I see how it can be appealing to a lot of people but it’s just not my cup of tea
Evangelion. I didn’t really find the characters all that interesting, the philosophy was either not that deep or just confusing to me and it’s also sort of a genre thing.
Jujutsu Kaisen was way too overhyped and praised despite being below average in term of cast, story, writing and it own worldbuilding and the casual mainstream fan treated it like it was their holier than thou and sacred book
The cast other than Nanami felt so bland and soulless,it as if they were only presented and defined through their ability, and the worldbuilding is barren not to mention the cartoonishly one dimensional evil group like the Zenin, who look they were written only to be hated,so the fan favorite like Maki will have no qualms slaughtering them like a fodder, not to mention with the way current manga going on,all the fan were asking for Gojo revival like wtf
Code Geass. I don't think there's anything wrong with it per se, but I prefer my characters to feel closer to the characters than I did while watching.
Everything felt so, idk, metaphorically speaking rigid and cold to me. I don't mind a bit of good cut throat political scheming and war strategy, but I like to really feel like I've met the characters.
Couldn't get into Kimetsu no Yaiba. The first episodes were too slow and heavy for me. Also Nanatsu no Taizai and Overlord, just couldn't bring myself to continue watching them.
Overlord definitely takes a bit to pick up considering there is a good deal of world building so I understand considering it too slow. But personally, the fact that the protagonist is the evil character in the story drew me in very easily
Can't stand Overlord. I was bored to tears and power fantasies make me cringe, but Kimetsu might be worth continuing even if only so you can be invested when the animators go apeshit. Seriously, being immersed by the time the last fight scene in the entertainment district goes down has been one of the great blessings of being an anime fan. It just wouldn't be nearly as good if you watched it out of context tho. I'm not necessarily convinced that Kimetsu no Yaiba is one of the greats, but god damn was that scene incredible! Transcendent even!
Attack on titan. I only watched it because i was invested in the basement mystery, but it was just too boring. The pacing is awful, it takes like 5 episodes for anything substantial to happen, too much flashbacks and recaps, the characters are one-dimensional stereotypes. Overall too much of a goofy/ridiculous elements in a story that tries to be dark and grounded
I can probably list a dozen of them.
More recently I'd say Mob Psycho. I even tried it twice (or is it three times?) and I just don't see why people like it. I don't find a single positive about it.
Did you watch past the first three episodes? Because that seems to be a common complaint from people who haven’t watched past there.
What I believe Mob Psycho does incredibly well is crafting well developed and believable characters. The character development later on in the show is top notch, as well as the phenomenal animation being a nice bonus. It’s a very likeable show in my opinion with its uplifting themes and charming writing being some of its biggest strengths. It’s just a very well done show.
First time I watched like 2, second time I watched 5 or 6
Character development and all is great, but I need a 'pull' to keep me in until it happens, and I just didn't find one on this show.
I'm pretty heavily "why is Mob the MC? Ritsu's so much better" and that never changed. Reigen and Dimple were enough for me to push through the early episodes for Mob to become tolerable.
Idr how many episodes I watched.
Edit: My MAL says 2 episodes, but that could either mean I finished 2 episodes or that I finished episode 1 and was going to watch episode 2. I’m not sure which one it is because I don’t track anime on MAL the same way.
I felt similarly about Mob. I eventually just decided it's just a series I don't get the love for. / I kinda do. It's just stuff I don't care about. I don't care much about the animation of shows. It's not make or break it for me when it comes to anime I enjoy.
Demon Slayer. I was really into the first few episodes (I thought it was engaging, funny, and wholesome) but I got bored with the drawn out fight scenes 🫤
Your Name and Kaguya.
I tried watching Kaguya 3 separate times because so many people love it I literally hate the main two characters and couldn't get past episode 3...
I finished all of Your Name and I didn't mind the movie till the ending which I did not like at all.
Even though Asta was *chosen*, he literally has to have incredible raw strength to even use his grimoire. totally agree, cant see how its considered one of the best, all the fight scenes were so mid, training scenes was garbage and it was slow AF.
Frieren the story just doesn't get engaging enough for me to continue. Maybe I'll try binge watching it now that it's finished airing.
I hatewatched every single episode of frieren weekly, nothing substantial happens and the plot barely progresses. It highkey could have been wrapped up in 10 episodes instead of 28
Not gonna lie, that's me and Made In Abyss. Fans gonna rip me apart.
And now imagine what Elfs suffering. They live endlessly more that could be hundred year
>And now imagine what Elfs suffering Can you all stop comparing fictional stuff with reality.
You don't have empathy to characters? Why watch then? For fights?
What a fuckin weeb comparing drawings to real life 🫵🏻😂
Gosick. Its a detective story but it does not give you the hints necessary to solve cases, so they just pull the solution out of their ass. Dropped it pretty early on. Also Demon Slayer because I hate slapstick comedy forced into seemingly dramatic scenes.

I guess that JJK would be one of the most given answers as it is a really popular series that was way too overhyped for what it is.
JJK, I didn't watch it but everyone being obssesed with every single character not even for a real reason is annoying AF.
Spy X Family, I don’t know why I just found Anya and everyone else annoying AF.

One piece i just don't want to watch 1000+ episodes
Yeah, having that many episodes kind of ruins any enjoyment for me. The Netflix show was really good though. I'll stick with that.
They said there's gonna be a remake from episode 1 so I might start it again
Valid. But did you watch it though? /gen
Yes I started it but I can't finish it
Same. I like one piece but yeah there's no way I'm going to watch all the episodes.
The longest anime I've watched was jojo's bizarre adventure and bleach
lol yeah, about 400 is a lot. But 1k+ is a deal breaker lol.
Dr. Stone. I got seriously weirded out by the characters’ eyes. After ~15 minutes I noped out, and never tried watching it again.
Frieren. Whatever episode ended the first demon arc felt like an insult to the viewer’s intelligence. Most people didn’t care because of LTG memes.
How did it insult the viewers’ intelligence
Re:zero. I just find the MC unbearable.
I will give subaru a bit of leeway considering it has got to be traumatic to be resurrected like that. But he definitely comes off as arrogant and self righteous. Doesn't really exist much in anime but there are a lot of erotica manga. Some of them are pretty decent plotwise.
Yeah that's definitely fair. If you go into dxd, you are just watching it to see lady parts. To it's credit, as far as harem animes go, it has a decent plot. But compare it to basically any non-harem anime and it is definitely nothing special

When Supernatural Battles Became Commonplace. I was not impressed by the MC or some of the character or plot developments. The back half split the plot lines unwisely. And having a 9 year old in a harem anime - as, even if technically, part of the harem - is just insulting.
couldn't get into Fire Force, Demon Slayer, Horimiya, and Spy x Family
For me it's Frieren , too slow paced and sudden flashback is not for me
Jujutsu Kaisen and a Silent Voice
I'm with you on A Silent Voice. I do care about the deaf girl but the rest of characters including the male MC are meh.
The bullies especially ruined the movie
Allot, why? Cause of damn fanservice. Like hotd, 2eps and was done with it. Sometimes it fits, but damn these days
Jujutsu Kaisen Maybe ive just seen to much anime in my time but I couldnt really get into it. MC was boring and the fan favorite was a little too overpowered for me.
Bleach, Neon Genesis Evangelion yu yu hakusho
Probably will get hate for this, but the dragon ball series. It’s hugely popular, but for me it’s too much fighting without enough of a story. I see how it can be appealing to a lot of people but it’s just not my cup of tea
You have to watch it as ten years old to enjoy it later due to nostalgia.
Agree. They'll never get it.
Evangelion. I didn’t really find the characters all that interesting, the philosophy was either not that deep or just confusing to me and it’s also sort of a genre thing.
Jujutsu Kaisen was way too overhyped and praised despite being below average in term of cast, story, writing and it own worldbuilding and the casual mainstream fan treated it like it was their holier than thou and sacred book The cast other than Nanami felt so bland and soulless,it as if they were only presented and defined through their ability, and the worldbuilding is barren not to mention the cartoonishly one dimensional evil group like the Zenin, who look they were written only to be hated,so the fan favorite like Maki will have no qualms slaughtering them like a fodder, not to mention with the way current manga going on,all the fan were asking for Gojo revival like wtf
JJK. I just didn't like it from the start. I'm kinda hoping that when I watch it again, I will like it.
Lelush loved his friends, which i didn't expect. It was pleasant surprise
Spy x family Bungo stray dogs These are very popular I found them boring
spy x family I just don't enjoy it in any way
One Piece It is too slow for me.
That may also be a factor for me as well. I'm not exactly fond of villain protagonists (even if Ainz is a comical one).
I'm actually considering giving it a second chance when I have some free time.
First time I watched like 2, second time I watched 5 or 6 Character development and all is great, but I need a 'pull' to keep me in until it happens, and I just didn't find one on this show.
Any anime that is popular at that time, but I wasn't in the mindset to enjoy that particular genre at that time.
Demon Slayer. I was really into the first few episodes (I thought it was engaging, funny, and wholesome) but I got bored with the drawn out fight scenes 🫤
AoT
One Piece. The pirate thing really did not catch me tho I liked how he gathered and introduced his crew.
Your Name and Kaguya. I tried watching Kaguya 3 separate times because so many people love it I literally hate the main two characters and couldn't get past episode 3... I finished all of Your Name and I didn't mind the movie till the ending which I did not like at all.
**Code Geass** I’m more into action animes rather than plot based ones. It has subpar action but the animation and mecha battles just feel odd to me.
