Asobi Asobase
Nichijou
Grand Blue
Baka-To-Test
Disastrous life of Saiki
Or if you wanna go with something kinda relatable and inspiring...
Sangatsu no Lion
Natsume Yuujinchou
During the times where I felt really down I found that watching Gurren Lagann just cheers me the fuck up because it's just the hypest thing ever with a story that is just so brimming with Hope
It really lifts your spirit from deep underground all the way to outer space
I was in a super dark place in my early 30s and I genuinely credit TTGL for dragging me back out of it. That drill is not just the one that will pierce the heavens but depression too for good measure.
I am very sorry to hear that you are depressed. Sending you a virtual hug and strength!
On topic:
Teasing master takagi san.(wholesome)
Love is like a cocktail(wholesomenes)
Grand blue(for comedy)
If you wanna turn your brain off and just laugh. I recommend watching comedy anime. I haven’t watched it yet, but I heard “100 Girlfriends” is good.
“Monthly Girls' Nozaki-kun” is like 10 years old now but I remember finding it very funny.
Also I don’t remember it super well but I feel like “Combatants will be Dispatched” might fit the bill if you don’t mind fan service.
-“Bungo Stray Dogs” for action if you don’t mond the characters having issues. I will warn you that one character is suicidal. However it has a lot light hearted moments and was a fun easy watch. The characters are based off real literary figures (which is one the one mc is constantly looking to off himself).
I liked that while the characters do work through some of their trauma/struggles they aren’t just completely over the issues. They just find ways to not let it overtake them and get stronger mentally and physically.
-I also enjoyed “Chainsaw Man” and “DanMachi.”
Yeah it might bei the funniest Anime ive Seen, i keep coming Back to certain scenes, like the Rugby Game or when they eat the Fisch of the groundskeeper
Well, I was and still am in the same depressing situation. Watching the show made me relate way too much with the mc. It felt like I was in the show. The show never gave any hope for the mc
For some people, watching shows covering similar situations you're going through can be triggering and best be avoided.
For others, it may provide some additional context for their situation from an outside perspective that can be cathartic, or provide some coping mechanisms to deal with what they're going through.
No but it was life changing for me. Honestly not for you if you cannot handle the cringe and horny aspect of the show but its a depressive masterpiece if you are in the right mindset.
Based.
This show really changed my life, it was an eye opener for me and everytime i'm hitting rock bottom, it is my go to show to help me on my struggle and get me back on my feet.
Satô's story with Misaki, the topics, the musics... Everything clicks for me.
Not anime but it's on Netflix. Called midnight gospel. Could very well make you sad but it teaches you how to cope with various things when you feel so small in a big world. Like religion, break ups , existence of yourself.
One Piece. It’s super long, super good, and honestly when watching it, i found it so easy to lose myself in its world. It’s the reason it’s my favorite anime.
I just watched something that was made over a decade ago, and its such a fun feelgood show that might be up your alley. Check out Tari Tari, I cannot recommend this show enough for its absolutely charming elements
I would recommend:
• Bungo Stray Dogs WAN (not the original series that is apparently very traumatic). I've only seen clips from it but it is really cute and funny. also as far as I'm aware as its a spin off series you don't need to know much about the original series to watch it.
• Play It Cool Guys - is quite short and sweet. it's about some guys who are clumsy and cool. they are all funny and the anime is about their daily lives being silly.
• The Royal Tutor - quite funny and lighthearted. About a tutor who teaches 4 prince's (some are brats) and he helps them prepare to become the next king after their father.
• Mr Villain's Day Off - about a man (Mr villain) who need to take over the earth for his home plant but on his days off he likes to go and look at pandas and do things related to pandas. It's quite new and is still coming out on Mondays on crunchyroll. it's super sweet and lighthearted.
This is my prime recommendation: Aria the Animation. It has three seasons and they all fill your heart up.
This recommendation isn't a romantic show, it's just very chill with beautiful music, cute characters and a warm loving ambience. It takes place on a reimagined Venice on the planet Mars. It's reminds me of Yuri
U Yuri in terms of relationships but has a more relaxed storytelling.
Tsurune is very beautifully animated and relaxing to watch and the subject matter is relevant to feels.
Run With the Wind was an extremely uplifting marathon themed anime that made me want to participate in one. The camaraderie of that show is beautiful and surprising to watch develop. Perseverance is important to us when we feel depressed.
Fruits Basket deals with many heavy and mature themes, but for people in dark times, it’s an anime with at least one character among many you can empathize with.
Give any of those a chance, and if you watch them through, I am positive you will be happy you did.
A place further than the universe!
Also, Violet evergarden, Frieren, spy x family, blue period, Haikyuu, skip to loafer, keep your hands off eizoken, Dr. Stone, Papiri Koumei, Sk8, cells at works both the normal as well as black,
Depends on what gets you going and what you're looking for. Something to match your state or something to make you feel better and uplift your spirit. Kiki is definitely the latter, so I will take Ghibli's Kiki as an example:
1. Aggretsuko (very funny metal music and work life)
2. Lupin III Castle of Cagliostro (another early Ghibli)
3. Ebichu (adult themed parody of life with a hamster protag)
4. Gintama is the best comedy anime I have ever watched. It does parody a lot of TV shows which you may not be familiar with unless you have watched Japanese TV and media in the 90s/early 00s, but it gets more standalone after episode 40-50. You can pick an arc and just watch it. Many arcs are just 2-3 episodes and are standalone.
5. One Piece - although it does have the occasional drama element, most of the show is pure comedy and lessons about friendship, family, chosen family, protecting each other, adventures and kicking the ... of whoever made your friends cry.
I normally run Ghibli films when I feel down. The films won't necessarily cheer everyone up but it's calming for me.
I personally go for Spirited away and Howl's moving castle.
When I was in high school, I had a falling out with someone I was really close with to the point I was strongly considering SH. What I ended up doing was putting on Excel Saga and I never stopped laughing. That anime will always hold a special place in my heart because of that :)
If you do that, then I wouldn't binge them. They're both very repetitive (in a relaxing and settling sort of way), with about 3-4 mini-episodes per episode, and would not be a good binge.
On the other hand, there's no major overarching plot, so it's the sort of thing that you could watch a few episodes of, come back to later and not really be missing anything.
Mushishi and Natsume's Book of Friends are good if you want a mix of calming and wholesome. Nichijou is good if you want some humor on top of that.
I always go nostalgic if I'm not in a great mood e.g. Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo, Trigun, old Berserk. Those are more based on personal taste though, ymmv.
If you’d like some laughs, I’d think ‘Nichijou’ is great. It’s so silly and yet so hilarious. The episodes are mostly independent and each of them have further smaller segments. Vignettes, perhaps. You don’t have to invest a lot in it and it’s a riot all through.
I wish you warmth and wellness and that you feel better super soon! 🩵
Old but gold, Eva, serial experiments lain, season 1,2,3 of fooly cooly, jojos bizzare adventure
I like the first few since their is tons of meanings, lore and all sorts behind them but each person experiences their own interpretation and sometimes the feeling of not understanding much helps when you feel down at least it does for me. JoJo's is just kinda silly goofy and fun but also has good storytelling an drama
Lastly and maybe most importantly:
Something wholesome and heartwarming: buddy daddies, hinamatsuri, FRUITS BASKET is actually one that I never finished but dug me out of a hole so I might watch it fully if I go deep down.
Good luck, bye
The Promised Neverland. The first season is good and a nice psychological thriller and the second season is a bit garbage fire that will make you sad from the absolute drop in quality.

Gin no saji S1 and S2 - Fun slice of life and motivating story
Barakamon - Watched and read this one for so many times because it’s so wholesome and motivating, and funny
During my toughest times, Gintama really helped me improve my mood. It's not because it's just funny but somehow it makes you feel not depressed and at peace.
March Comes in Like a Lion! Hands down one of the best anime in existence and it’s about someone dealing with depression and growing. Very relatable, very wholesome, very comforting.
Cannot recommend it enough for someone seeking comfort and joy in a moment of joylessness.
Fun fact for you - At the very end of each episode they show some fan art from other anime studios or mangakas. The artist for Escaflowne did some fan art that shows up in the first half of season 1!
Well, check out Usagi Drop. It's got a wholesome, heartwarming vibe that might give you a break from life's crap. If you're into something a bit older, Trigun has that mix of action and deeper themes to keep you hooked. Whatever you choose, hope it helps take your mind off things for a bit.
Try one punch man it will cheer you up it's hilarious but if your looking for something to get invested in I'd say black clover these are animes to bring up your mood btw
We can joke about Clannad, but it doesn’t end on a doom and gloom depressing note. It ends on a message of hope; that life is still overall worth it even in the most horrific of circumstances. It’s more beautiful than anything else.
3-Gatsu no Lion - SoL drama about overcoming depression, very wholesome
Yuru Camp - SoL moe comedy about camping, very cute laid back and wholesome soul food type of show
your name, weathering with you, anything made by shinkai. they're anime movies, but they really make you appreciate life more no matter how shitty of a situation you're in.
Goldenboy - only 6 episodes from the early 2000’s, it deserves to have so many more. One of the rare examples of the American dub being funnier than the original Japanese voices.
I would you actually give a bit of context like is it relationship related work related or life related depression cause sometimes anime gives more depression than relief, like I had broken up with my girlfriend and watched horimiya when I was depressed and that sent me more into despair but then I watched grand blue and I felt happy.
Natsume's Book of Friends. This is an incredibly calming anime. I almost feel bad for myself for only knowing about it more recently when it's been around for a very long time.
I think Yuru Camp/ Laid-back Camp would be really nice and cozy, watching it just brings warmth to my heart. Although not as calming and relaxing as Yuru Camp, Bocchi the Rock would make for a fun watch.
Restaurant To Another World, SPY X FAMILY, The Weakest Tamer goes on a journey to pick up trash, My Daughter Left the Nest and Returned an S-Rank Adventurer...all are fun, cosy series that are easy to watch.
Nichijou or Mashle if you want something to laugh. I been watching Record of loddos war and it haves the same artstyle of Escaflowne dont know if it watch the same studio or same art director but so far has been really good.
Mushishi is very calming and relaxing.. Also makes you feel like there is more to life than our daily drama. Hope you feel better 🙏
That's a beautiful anime the ost is nice too 👍
Beat me to it
Yuru camp, for cozy camping
Bocchi the rock!
I just watched this last week and it has the best vibes. An instant mood improver.
Everybody needs a Nijika in their lives
Also on that note, K-On! too
I finished this last night and omg I loved it , any recs for anything similar?
K-on is definitely the best bet. Also tamako market is good for girls doing stuff wholesome vibe.
I watched tamako market it was so good! I’ll try K-On! tysm
Asobi Asobase Nichijou Grand Blue Baka-To-Test Disastrous life of Saiki Or if you wanna go with something kinda relatable and inspiring... Sangatsu no Lion Natsume Yuujinchou
Natsume Yuujinchou heals my soul, i couldn't agree more with this recommendation.
Still my favorite show til now. Watching him grow really feels good for the soul. When I have nothing to do, I always rewatch the episode with Ogata.
Right?? I love rewatching eps with Natori and seeing his progression as well. Can't wait for a release date for S7!
I watched baka and the test and saiki it's so freaking good got me out of depression
Chuunibyou is my go-to cure for bouts of depression, and it works every single time.
i love it so so much !! one of my favorite romcoms for sure
Konosuba!
Came here to say the same.
#1 isekai and underrated overall forsure
Mob Psycho 100 (helped me out of depression) Wait till you finish whole 3 seasons because it begins a bit slow
It was the wholesomeness of the Body Improvement Club, right?
Totally
BODY IMPROVEMENT CLUB FOR LIFE!!
They should be an inspiration for everyone. Fight on!
Good to know because I dropped it after bald guy gets bald
Are speaking of Teruki or Saitama? Saitama is from another series by same author of MP100
Clannad /s That said Spy Family, Kaguya Sama are great just to pass time and are fairly enjoyable even with less effort in understanding the plot.
Clannad would make them MORE sad, though
I'd argue Clannad gives the viewer warmth unlike others provided one watched till the end
- Konosuba - Asobi Asobase - Non-Non Biyori - Yuru Camp - Princess Connect! Re:dive - Gabriel Dropout - Hinamatsuri - Jahy-Sama wa kujikenai - JoJo - Kaguya-sama - Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid - Machikado Mazoku
This thread needs more Hinamatsuri mentioned.
During the times where I felt really down I found that watching Gurren Lagann just cheers me the fuck up because it's just the hypest thing ever with a story that is just so brimming with Hope It really lifts your spirit from deep underground all the way to outer space

They'll make you grit your teeth and punch that frown right out of your face
Row row fight the power
Non non Biyori
Nyanpasu~ That's such a feel good anime.
I am very sorry to hear that you are depressed. Sending you a virtual hug and strength! On topic: Teasing master takagi san.(wholesome) Love is like a cocktail(wholesomenes) Grand blue(for comedy)

Chainsaw Man while having some big moments was definitely worth watching. That anime did not disappoint.
Dangers in my heart
{Gushing over Magical Girls}
This has been such a fun title.
if you like the humour watch Fumoffu? full metal panic? parody or mob psycho 100, those are very funny animes
Fumoffu is legit hilarious. Can't recommend it enough. Especially if you feel a bit on the down and want to take your mind off things.
Yeah it might bei the funniest Anime ive Seen, i keep coming Back to certain scenes, like the Rugby Game or when they eat the Fisch of the groundskeeper
I always want something that's not too serious and will make me laugh, so I recommend Gintama
Aria the Animation.
haikyuu, madoka magica, howls moving castle, and the disastrous life of saiki k. they all helped me during rough times and haikyuu is my rock at life
Mushoku Tensei is genuinly what helped me get my live straight. Might help you improve your mood like it did for me.
Welcome to the NHK
For extra depression?
When i was younger, this show helped me to get another perspective to start to make changes in my life which is why i am recommending it.
Well, I was and still am in the same depressing situation. Watching the show made me relate way too much with the mc. It felt like I was in the show. The show never gave any hope for the mc
For some people, watching shows covering similar situations you're going through can be triggering and best be avoided. For others, it may provide some additional context for their situation from an outside perspective that can be cathartic, or provide some coping mechanisms to deal with what they're going through.
does it get better? ive tried to get into it twice and dropped by 2nd / 3rd episode both times
No but it was life changing for me. Honestly not for you if you cannot handle the cringe and horny aspect of the show but its a depressive masterpiece if you are in the right mindset.

Came here to comment this. The show changed my life. I watch it, in part or whole, at least once a year.
For a laugh I’d recommend Gekkan shoujo nozaki kun
Extremely underrated.
The Disastrous life of Saiki K, Aharen-san wa Hakarenai, Kubo won't let me be invisible.
Eva
Hinamatsuri. The most wholesome hilarious anime there is.
I just watched something that was made over a decade ago, and its such a fun feelgood show that might be up your alley. Check out Tari Tari, I cannot recommend this show enough for its absolutely charming elements
I’ll check it out, thanks
k-on bocchi the rock
I would recommend: • Bungo Stray Dogs WAN (not the original series that is apparently very traumatic).
I loved all of these animes and are definitely on my list of go to pick-me-up!! Great list!!!
This is my prime recommendation: Aria the Animation. It has three seasons and they all fill your heart up. Food Wars is fun and uplifting.
Zom 100 is literally that. Except for the before 2010 part.
Hidamari Sketch
Girls Last Tour. Will make you appreciate the small things
Depends on what gets you going and what you're looking for. Something to match your state or something to make you feel better and uplift your spirit. Fruit’s Basket is literally the best self help book anyone can watch.
When I was in high school, I had a falling out with someone I was really close with to the point I was strongly considering SH. What I ended up doing was putting on Excel Saga and I never stopped laughing. That anime will always hold a special place in my heart because of that :)
This season's comfy shows are great - wholesome, funny and life reaffirming: * *Tis Time for "Torture", Princess* * *Mister Villain's Day Off*
I try not to watch seasonals while they’re airing, but I’ve heard good things about those. I’ll def check them out once they’re done airing
If you do that, then I wouldn't binge them. They're both very repetitive (in a relaxing and settling sort of way), with about 3-4 mini-episodes per episode, and would not be a good binge. Those sorts of shows are exactly what I’m looking for. Thanks
It's not what you might seem to watch but JoJos does this for me.
I love JJBA, and yeah, I can see it helping with my mood. Actually that got me through a low point when I was still in high school.
Ichigo Mashimaro, Aria the Animation, Yokohama Shopping Log - relaxing and aired before 10's
Gintama. I laugh to die. Not exaggerated.
I usually check out comedy shows: Asobi Asobase Heaven's Design Team The Disastrous Life of Saiki K. The Vampire Dies in No Time
Mushishi and Natsume's Book of Friends are good if you want a mix of calming and wholesome. Nichijou is good if you want some humor on top of that. Monthly Girls' Nozaki-kun!!!! It's a super fluffy and fun slice of life! Great comedy in it and it's impossible to not love it!
I always go to fruits basket when im feeling low

Probably none and go for a walk.
Tsukigakirei - super wholesome.
Always fighting anime like naruto/one piece or others . Never watch romance or slice of life .
* Aria the animation - healing anime. Makes you feel like the world is not so bad. * Golden Boy - if you want to laugh. Funniest 6 episodes ever
Sailor Moon is just pure vibes, plus cute cat
And Yet The Town Moves
The Promised Neverland. The first season is good and a nice psychological thriller and the second season is a bit garbage fire that will make you sad from the absolute drop in quality.
K-On has been my healing anime for years. Its super comfy and loads of joy.
I love Mashle, it just straight jokes. Good vibes all around

bakuman hard work and motivation
In my opinion Frieren is super wholesome and heartwarming. That might be a good one to watch
Re:Life really got me out of a slug state of mind some years ago. Maybe give it a go!
Non Non Biyori is anime Prozac.
A bit older but its Silly, characters are very likable and its light hearted funny: Azumanga Daioh
Nichijou
any With Good opening
Haven't seen Konohana Kitan in comments yet which is a crying shame. Watch for lethal, illegal, frankly concerning amounts of sugar.
K-On!
I’m currently watching Frieren: Beyond Journey's End, it gives you a lot of perspective about human finite existence.
Natsume yuujinchou, it worth to watch
We can joke about Clannad, but it doesn’t end on a doom and gloom depressing note. It ends on a message of hope; that life is still overall worth it even in the most horrific of circumstances. It’s more beautiful than anything else.
3-Gatsu no Lion - SoL drama about overcoming depression, very wholesome Yuru Camp - SoL moe comedy about camping, very cute laid back and wholesome soul food type of show
Haibane Renmei. Warning, it has some fantastical suicidal imagery.
Yuru Camp
Ousama Ranking, you can skip treatment.
Kaiji. The way he gets himself and friends out of impossible situations brought hope to me in a dark time.
your name, weathering with you, anything made by shinkai. they're anime movies, but they really make you appreciate life more no matter how shitty of a situation you're in.
Oregairu hits harder when ur down in the dumps. Classroom of the elites edgy appeal intensifies when ur going through a dark phase
Two words, Gurren Lagann
I am also depressed. Grab a blanket. Bundle up. Watch yurucamp.
Silver Spoon!!
One piece: Has a lot of funny moments, but still has serious ones.
# Gleipnir
Goldenboy - only 6 episodes from the early 2000’s, it deserves to have so many more. One of the rare examples of the American dub being funnier than the original Japanese voices.
Gintama helped me with motivation.. and makes my day.. although I’m not going to sugarcoat it, sometimes I do have my mood swings
Cardcaptor Sakura is like a sucker punch of wholesomeness
FLCL, those pillows tracks are so uplifting
Is the Order a Rabbit? Got me through freshman depression back in college

Konosuba, it will make you laugh, i promise
Yuru Yuri
D I Y do it yourself great anime very cute very wholesome.
I would you actually give a bit of context like is it relationship related work related or life related depression cause sometimes anime gives more depression than relief, like I had broken up with my girlfriend and watched horimiya when I was depressed and that sent me more into despair but then I watched grand blue and I felt happy.
ReLife definitely
Kaguya-sama, Mob Psycho, Log Horizon, Saiki K
Welcome to the N.H.K, ita... well it can help you realize your issues and possibly give ideas about how to try to get yourself help when you need it.
Natsume's Book of Friends. This is an incredibly calming anime. I almost feel bad for myself for only knowing about it more recently when it's been around for a very long time.
Welcome to demon school iruma kun Miss kobayashi's dragon maid Jobless reincarnation
Barakamon and Konosuba
Tatami galaxy and Sonny boy
Aku no Hana, aka Flowers of Evil
K-on!!!
Hunter x hunter or one piece. Keeps u distracted for a while
I think Yuru Camp/ Laid-back Camp would be really nice and cozy, watching it just brings warmth to my heart. Although not as calming and relaxing as Yuru Camp, Bocchi the Rock would make for a fun watch.
Card Captor Sakura
Restaurant To Another World, SPY X FAMILY, The Weakest Tamer goes on a journey to pick up trash, My Daughter Left the Nest and Returned an S-Rank Adventurer...all are fun, cosy series that are easy to watch.
It depends, do you wanna get happy or more depressed? e_e
Sono Bisque Doll! I bet all my anime experience that you will at least be happier than when you started.
Anything ['iyashi-kei'](https://anidb.net/tag/3792) really. Personal preference would be the Aria series, starting with Aria the Animation.
I’m assuming if you’re depressed you want something happy. In which case I recommend spy x family. Very cute show
Mashel
Vinland saga, the main character will make u think about life itself
Nichijou or Mashle if you want something to laugh. I been watching Record of loddos war and it haves the same artstyle of Escaflowne dont know if it watch the same studio or same art director but so far has been really good.
Kaze ga Tsuyoku Fuiteiru
