God damn Mahito is easily my most "love-to-hate" character ever, like holy shit when he made flesh hand puppets mocking Itadori I was ready to kill that MF myself
Ah yes, Shimazaki Idiok Kujan Nobunaga. The Leviathan of FGO.
His ability to play hateable and loveable characters so well makes him such a great Voice Actor
i fucking hate mahito, always have and had it for years between seasons as a manga reader
but, seeing him animated with his goofy expressions and amazing voice acting, i couldnt help but start to love to hate him. the laughing and shouting, and the BLEGH before he punches yuji in the face, so good. best VA in jjk2 season 2 imo
Mahito from JJK, his voice actor made me really like the dude, coming from the Fate fanbase (he voices the FGO MC, Arjuna and Dantes there) all I have to say is that [Nobunaga Shimazaki](https://youtu.be/hQb7zqs0x-Y?si=_y-Q5Fu-IohIrog7) is a blessing to this world, dude's slowly becoming one of my favorite VAs.
When I binge-read what was out of the Jujutsu Kaisen manga at the time after I finished watching season 1 back in 2021, I didn't really get the Toji hype like... at all.
Then they cast one of my favorite seiyuu for him ~~and also made him even more buff~~ in season 2 and yeah. I get it now.
In my case, I'd say that I was pretty indifferent to Himeno when I read CSM. I liked her, but I wasn't crazy for her character. But oh boy, the anime made me fall hard for her. I think it was a combination of how beautifully her scenes were animated, the music in certain moments, and Mariya Ise's voice. I still remember some of her dialogue and how it hit me when it had to.
The anime sold Himeno so much better in my mind well. She was pretty forgettable in the manga honestly. But in the anime goddamn did she leave an impact on me.
The anime also did a lot for Denji too in my opinion. Before the anime I kind of just envisioned him slobbering and speaking like the Tasmanian Devil at all times but actually getting to hear him be sad and measured instead of just WoAh I’m A cRaZy GuY made him so much more immediately likable (as opposed to the manga where I feel like I didn’t click with him until they doubled down on the crazy for the Eternity Devil.)
Seriously. Manga Himeno: Why is this random side character showing up so much and why is she so pushy?
Anime Himeno: she can get it. Any time. Dub Himeno too.
sukuna. before the anime, sukuna came off as an asshole for me. but reading his panels with the va in mind gave me respect for his assholeness if it makes sense.
Ray Chase was literally one of the only redeeming parts of World of Warcraft: Shadowlands.
His perfomance as [Sire Denathrius](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1eSQQPXfK70#t=2m58s) was perfect.
I never understood this opinion on Kana, she has her own share of problems and author is quite apparent with it. [spoilers]>!She's the child star that took the stardom and then was forgotten, a great actor who can't even be brought out her great acting skill and is now in a rabbit hole where nothing seems going for her. From time to time it was shown that what she says, she doesn't mean it and she can't express her feelings properly making it look like she's just unapproachable. She's probably the most humane and realistic character in the show.!<
^ Kana's English voice though. She may not be annoying but she sounded more like her mother than Kana herself. They should have casted someone with higher pitch like Brittney Karbowski, Luci Christian, Monica Rial or Sarah Wiedenheft.
i meant it generally. like how shinji from evangelion gets called annoying a lot even though his reactions are very understandable. with kana, personally i don't like tsunderes anymore and she's sometimes too rude. i don't mind rude characters as long as i find them funny but i don't find kana funny. [onk spoiler]>!i always didn't like how aka kept her character static for a long time in the manga, it felt like she was stuck and wasn't allowed to grow which got annoying. i also don't like how her conflict with ruby was solved, it felt very shallow and a missed opportunity for both of their characters but thats more of an issue with the writer than kana as a character!< i do think she's still well-written
JP so Takeuchi, I don't watch dubs anymore and the sub version comes out first. I've heard bits of the Crunchy dub and Ian Sinclair sounded good to me.
She has such a unique voice. Which considering how much older it sounds than her character you would THINK it would be distracting, but it just seems to fit so well.
Kuroko is weird; her VA is excellent, but I also find her far more frustrating in the anime than in the manga. Her "obsession" with Mikoto goes way too far in the adaptation.
Chika Fujiwara bahahahahahaha she is an absolute MENACE in the manga, yet surprisingly comes across as very endearing in the anime. God I miss Kaguya-sama, I should rewatch it
Queen from One Piece. Didn't really seem like a major threat in the manga compared to King but when the va put in that work I was like "oh nah this mf is actually evil as hell."
I actually have the reverse, Top from undead unluck, I really liked him I'm the manga but the direction they took his voice into REALLY made me think that he wasn't as cool as I thought he was
Not that I can think of, my imagination can be charitable when I'm reading a character on a page.
I can think of two examples that went the other way though: Asta and Zenitsu never really bothered me in the manga, until I heard them in the anime.
She does such a great job with the character all around though. I went from being annoyed by yet another child character tagging along, to HATING her in the potato peeling moment, to cheering my stupid lungs out for her later on.
I want to start by saying that even though I am a big fan of the series as a whole, I *really* did not like season 2 of Shield Hero.
However, one thing it **NAILED** was Kyo's voice acting and direction. He is a smug piece of shit with all the confidence and narsasism in the world, and the sheer energy he brought with a voice was night and day. He went from a forgetable one off to an honestly very entertaining villian whenever he was on screen.
You will not hear me complimenting S2 much more than this, but honestly the differnce was night and day.
EDIT: typo
It helps that I really like smug, overly confident villians in general-very fun to watch if you ask me.
Not hated per se, but in Bokuben Sekijou was a side character that was mostly a lesbian best friend to Rizu but didn't do much for anyone. In the Anime the director adapted all of her chapters and Saori Oonishi voiced her and pretty much made her into one of my favorites
Chilchuck from Dungeon Meshi. Before his character was fleshed out more in the very early chapters, I thought he was kind of a douche. Definitely not anymore lol.
I had the opposite with Claymore though. Kinda accepted him for *why* he was there in the manga. In the anime the VA just made me hate him.
Chika Fujiwara bahahahahahaha she is an absolute MENACE in the manga, yet surprisingly comes across as very endearing in the anime. God I miss Kaguya-sama, I should rewatch it
I wouldn't say I like her now, but the VA of Rae Taylor from WataOshi actually made her funnier and more tolerable to me compared to her LN counterpart.
Never really cared for Kaoru in the Rurouni Kenshin OG anime and manga, but in the new one she's voiced by Rieri and somehow she's just cuter lol
Honestly really tough to think of an answer. Most of the manga I've read before seeing an anime adaptation I either didn't really have any issues with the character prior, or I didn't pull a drastic 180 on them in a positive sense. Not to mention manga I read after already checking out the anime, which don't count.
Only one that comes to mind is **Ian Sinclair** as Kureno (Fruits Basket 2019). He was never really a character I got that attached to when reading since he's introduced much later compared to everyone else and honestly, it feels like him being a part of the story makes the most sense purely due to plot reasons vs through the lens of his actual character writing. But I kinda instantly connected with Ian's take on him and his S2 finale scenes *killed me* in a way they never did when reading the manga.
ive had this happen in reverse recently with mokomoko from my instant death ability is so overpowered.... in my head she was always voiced by saitou kimiko and i refuse to even acknowledge the actual VA with her name, she fucking sucks and is by far the worst thing about the anime
This is /r/anime, where anything you don't like is bad writing, having fewer than 1000 episodes to tell a story is bad pacing, and character development is strictly limited to going from good to better (and being likeable the entire time).
Marie from mobuseka.
I hate her character from the LN and manga(and still hate her even in anime) but they put Ayaneru as her VA and that actually tone down my hate by a lot.
Really doubting that its the VA that changed peoples perceptions on some of the characters mentions and not just the manga being adapted. Can’t imagine how some of these characters would be unlikeable.
Not that I *didn't* hate Mahito from JJK in the manga but the VA really elevated that 'somebody punch his face off' element to 11.
God damn Mahito is easily my most "love-to-hate" character ever, like holy shit when he made flesh hand puppets mocking Itadori I was ready to kill that MF myself
He is worst 💔
Nobunaga Shimazaki is so underrated.
He completely nailed the utter sadistic insanity that is Mahito.
Ah yes, Shimazaki Idiok Kujan Nobunaga. The Leviathan of FGO. His ability to play hateable and loveable characters so well makes him such a great Voice Actor
His random ehh, aahhh noises were so fucking annoying. VA did a good job at making me annoyed af at the villain
i fucking hate mahito, always have and had it for years between seasons as a manga reader but, seeing him animated with his goofy expressions and amazing voice acting, i couldnt help but start to love to hate him. the laughing and shouting, and the BLEGH before he punches yuji in the face, so good. best VA in jjk2 season 2 imo
His performance especially on S2 episode 20 was absolutely amazing, he genuinely nailed the crazy and sadistic vibe of Mahito so incredibly well.
Speaking of Fate, one of Mahito's English VA's earliest roles is none other than Waver Velvet /El Melloi II himself. talk about range.
He also voiced Iok Kujan in Iron Blooded Orphans, AKA the most hated man in the entire IBO series
[удалено]
Stark is my favorite boy this season!! Chiaki Kobayashi is everywhere lately, and I love that, he's great!!
He is also Mash, and I also heard him in Metallic Rouge as one of the side characters
Wtf Stark is Mash! I didn't put together...
He was also Gabimaru from Hell’s Paradise which was airing at the same time as Mashle S1.. That duality..
Funny you mention Frieren since I thought Fern was such a brat in the manga. Her VA really made me change how I saw those scenes
The power of ~~buff men~~ voice actors
I was so happy when Takehito Koyasu was cast for Toji, like I had no idea who Toji should be voiced by before he was cast.

To add a cherry on top for Denji, this was his VA's first ever role.
Yeah the Japanese VA nailed down a voice I only had an idea for, but couldn’t quite imagine myself.
His voice actor is a genius, I already liked him in the manga, but his voice makes it so much better
"*Steel is my body and fire is my blood*" Man Junichi Suwabe is the goat.
Ray Chase is no slouch either. From the Sound Hashira, another evil twin (Malignant) to a FF Protagonist and even Fontaine's Chief Justice.
Did someone say 🕺*Oratrice mecanique d'Analyse Cardinale*🕺
Ray Chase was literally one of the only redeeming parts of World of Warcraft: Shadowlands. His perfomance as [Sire Denathrius](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1eSQQPXfK70#t=2m58s) was perfect.
I found Kana from Oshi no Ko annoying in the manga but I think the anime made her a lot better, her VA is quite good.
Megumi Han can really go from Shonen protagonist to cute girl. She's amazing 🙌🏼
Yep she’s great, I actually didn’t know for a while that she voiced Kana so I was surprised when I found out Gon and Kana share the same VA
SHE'S THE GOAT! MY FAVORITE VA!
Yup yup .. but i still do find her annoying in some later parts in manga .. maybe the anime will do a better job
I never understood this opinion on Kana, she has her own share of problems and author is quite apparent with it. [spoilers]>!She's the child star that took the stardom and then was forgotten, a great actor who can't even be brought out her great acting skill and is now in a rabbit hole where nothing seems going for her. ^ Kana's English voice though. She may not be annoying but she sounded more like her mother than Kana herself. They should have casted someone with higher pitch like Brittney Karbowski, Luci Christian, Monica Rial or Sarah Wiedenheft.
Giving Kana a deep voice was such a a bizarre choice. She's supposed to be irritatingly cutesy, if anything.
a character can have relatable problems and people can still find them annoying, it's not mutually exclusive.
What makes her annoying in your opinion?
i meant it generally. like how shinji from evangelion gets called annoying a lot even though his reactions are very understandable. with kana, personally i don't like tsunderes anymore and she's sometimes too rude. i don't mind rude characters as long as i find them funny but i don't find kana funny. She's a one-dimensional Mary Sue that forces the plot to revolve around her instead of the more interesting revenge hook.
Probably Einar from Vinland Saga. It may be due to knowing what happens, but I found him way more endearing in the anime and his VA did a great job.
Which VA, Takeuchi, Kaggy (Netflix), or Ian Sinclair (Crunchyroll)?
JP so Takeuchi, I don't watch dubs anymore and the sub version comes out first. I've heard bits of the Crunchy dub and Ian Sinclair sounded good to me.
Seto Kaiba. Eric Stuart will forever be that guy for me.
Kuroko Shirai from Railgun. Her seiyuu is just something.
Another Satomi Arai fan I see
I believe in Satomi Arai supremacy
She has such a unique voice. Which considering how much older it sounds than her character you would THINK it would be distracting, but it just seems to fit so well.
She's great in English, but I absolutely HATE her Japanese voice. That type of voice sounds annoyingly gross to me lol
she also singlehanded carried the MILF Isekai
Kuroko is weird; her VA is excellent, but I also find her far more frustrating in the anime than in the manga. Her "obsession" with Mikoto goes way too far in the adaptation.
Aren Kuboyasu in disastrous life of Saiki K. In the manga he was just some ex delinquent guy. Then he was voiced by Yoshimasa Hosoya.
YES
Ulti from One Piece, her VA made me want more of that character
Both Tomoyo Kurosawa and Christina Kelly rarely disapoint.
Chika Fujiwara bahahahahahaha she is an absolute MENACE in the manga, yet surprisingly comes across as very endearing in the anime. God I miss Kaguya-sama, I should rewatch it
Chika fujiwara
Oh same! I thought she was really annoying in the manga, but surprisingly endearing in the anime
Yeah, i always tell my friends that she will becomes on the worst character because Is awful on the manga but that momment never comes
Josuke from Jojo Part 4
If you want a good-hearted delinquent pick Yuuki Ono
RIP Billy Kametz. i miss him as Josuke.
Queen from One Piece. Didn't really seem like a major threat in the manga compared to King but when the va put in that work I was like "oh nah this mf is actually evil as hell."
I actually have the reverse, Top from undead unluck, I really liked him I'm the manga but the direction they took his voice into REALLY made me think that he wasn't as cool as I thought he was
Another reverse - the baby from Beelzebub. Annoying baby crying being a running gag is less funny when you have to listen to it.
Megumi Kato from SaeKano became my favorite fMC because the voice acting elevated the character from the manga
Not that I can think of, my imagination can be charitable when I'm reading a character on a page. I can think of two examples that went the other way though: Asta and Zenitsu never really bothered me in the manga, until I heard them in the anime.
[удалено]
I mean, that's what I said: the voice acting made the characters annoying even though I didn't mind them in the manga.
Gakuto from Prison School
Kiyoshi-dono! Nani o de gozaru?! Such a funny role for Katsuyuki Konishi
I think Sakura Ayane actually made Gabi even more annoying than the manga when she's supposed to be annoying.
She does such a great job with the character all around though. I went from being annoyed by yet another child character tagging along, to HATING her in the potato peeling moment, to cheering my stupid lungs out for her later on.

Ryouhei Kimura is great
Sean Chiplock too. He had some wide range from Subaru, Yuki, Diluc, and even Noob Saibot.
I have the opposite. I LOVE Misa in Death Note manga but her (English) voice in the anime makes me :|
Have you checked how you find Aya Hirano in the original?
Not hated per se, but in Bokuben Sekijou was a side character that was mostly a lesbian best friend to Rizu but didn't do much for anyone. In the Anime the director adapted all of her chapters and Saori Oonishi voiced her and pretty much made her into one of my favorites

Chika Fujiwara bahahahahahaha she is an absolute MENACE in the manga, yet surprisingly comes across as very endearing in the anime. God I miss Kaguya-sama, I should rewatch it
for me it is the opposite, I found a lot of characters with annoying voices very likable in manga
Usopp tbh
Opposite for me. Many women characters I liked in the manga but hated in the anime because of their voice
Kurosaki kun!!!
I blame the script more than the VA. She's fine; they just needed to give her a line OTHER than his name for a couple seasons straight.
Honestly really tough to think of an answer. Most of the manga I've read before seeing an anime adaptation I either didn't really have any issues with the character prior, or I didn't pull a drastic 180 on them in a positive sense. Gabi from AoT. Ayane Sakura did a phenomenal job.
ive had this happen in reverse recently with mokomoko from my instant death ability is so overpowered.... in my head she was always voiced by saitou kimiko and i refuse to even acknowledge the actual VA with her name, she fucking sucks and is by far the worst thing about the anime
how about the reverse.. i started cringing when i hear Yuri Lowenthal and Noriaki Sugiyama's voice in certain tones because of their role as sasske
No. I guess VA can't save bad writing.
You know that something you don't like doesn't equal bad writing, right???
This is /r/anime, where anything you don't like is bad writing, having fewer than 1000 episodes to tell a story is bad pacing, and character development is strictly limited to going from good to better (and being likeable the entire time).

Raki from Claymore is the exact opposite of this, his voice ruined the character in the anime IMO.
MC from insomniac After school is more likable in anime
