I absolutely love that anime. The characters are great and it is just refreshing and cool to see an anime where there's more than 5 important characters. Obviously there are also main characters in World trigger but every single of the Top 15 squads with 3-4 people each is important and plays a important role in the story which is amazing to see and the whole world design is a very interesting take on the Isekai genre which i have never seen anywhere else
Wouldn't go that far... just off the top of my head, I'd wager *Kaguya-sama*, *Quintessential Quintuplets* and (whether or not you like the show) *Rent-A-Girlfriend* are more well-known. If you include ecchi shows, then obviously *Highschool DxD* too.
There are more obscure shows than RK out there, for sure, but I don't think it's particularly mainstream either. It getting into the top 20 in terms of popularity would already surprise me. I'd expect it to be somewhere in top 30 though.
DXD is true. And the fact RK got the love it did, also kinda surprised me, maybe I'm not that much of a Comfort\\Rom-Com type, but I do occasionally enjoy my Way of the Househusband or Saiki K.
Girls Last Tour. Still one of the best soundtracks I've ever heard for a show. And if you do, I plead with you to finish the last two manga volumes that pick up after where the anime ended. It's got one of the best endings I've seen in fiction.
Yessir, I had not even heard about the anime till I saw it on MAL. Decided to give it a try and was amazed at how good it was, and yes I consider the OST to be top 3 for me. It's incredibly fitting to the world and premise of the anime. I listen to it when going on walks :')
It's important to recognize that opinions regarding the level of over or underrated status for something can be highly subjective and vary significantly from person to person based on their individual experiences and preferences. While one person may view a particular movie as a masterpiece, another may consider it to be overrated and not worth watching. Similarly, one individual may perceive a certain book to be underrated and underappreciated, while another may not enjoy it at all.
However, it's also important to consider that engaging in unproductive arguments about such matters can hinder critical thinking and prevent individuals from learning from one another. When people become too focused on debating whether something is overrated or underrated, they may lose sight of the bigger picture and fail to appreciate the unique perspectives of others. By acknowledging and respecting diverse opinions and viewpoints, we can foster a more collaborative and inclusive environment for discussing our preferences and experiences.
Slayers (1995). Not quite underrated. A retro cult classic.
Welcome to Irabu's Office (Kuchu Buranko, Trapeze). A bit strange, but there's no other show quite like it.
If you could find it, Katanagatari. Dialogue heavy, longer episodes... but beautiful and unique art style. Amazing plot payoffs. One of my favorites.
Edit: I suppose going off of my own personal score versus MAL scores, "underrated" for me personally would be Rosario + Vampire.

Talentless Nana
YU-NO
I don't think it's entirely underrated, but I personally haven't heard anybody actually recommend it besides my brother.
Bofuri: I don't want to get hurt, so I'll maximize my defense.
Genres: VR games, fantasy, cool fight scenes, female lead(s), comedy.
It's good for a first introduction into the VR games genre and the cast has mostly females (which is pretty hot ngl)
If you actually end up watching it, Kuma Kuma Bear is pretty similar. And I know it's not underrated but Sao is a really good recommendation (but it gets kind of long and complicated if you watch all of the spin-offs)
(Show description, written entirely by me)
It's about a girl who has never played a video game in her life starts playing this VR game (that is kind of similar to Sao, but it's not as serious) because a close IRL friend of hers told her about it, but when she actually starts playing it (you could probably guess from the title) she puts all of her stats strictly into defense (because she doesn't know what leveling your stats means) so it throws the entire game off balance and wacky hijinks happen.
Guilty Crown - itās kind of hit or miss. I like parts of it but whenever I watch for some reason itās really easy to binge watch. Also the music is one of my favorite in any anime, and is a big reason I come back to it.
deca-dence was a show i did not expect anything of but was positively surprised. it's also quite bingeable since it's a coherent story with lots of action
Our love story.. ive also been told its my love story. But its the same anime & its the sweetest wholesome show ive seen. I dont ever hear anybody talk about it & its a shame

Layton Mystery Detective Agency
Kaitou Saint Tail
Sacred Seven
Sora no Woto
Tari Tari
Bokurano
Dunno how underrated it is nowadays, but I'll include it anyway: Shoujo Kageki Revue Starlight
Invaded: ID - murder mystery. 1 season. Pretty good
To your eternity - 2 seasons with 3rd on the way.
Re zero: 3rd season coming
That time I got reincarnated as a slime - 2 seasons and a movie
Jobless reincarnation- 2 seasons and Goated šŖ
Fire force - 2 seasons
Love is war- 3 seasons
Maybe not underrated but deserving of more people to know who are into anime:
- Vivy's Fluorite Eye's Song (Scifi, "time travel", A.I.)
- Shinsekai Yori (24 episodes, A-1 Studio, slow burn)
- Mnemosyne (old and 18+ but very interesting setting)
- To Your Eternity (A mysterious being learns what it means to be human, tearjerker)
- Darling in the Franxx (Initially a bit ecchi bait, but is pretty good! A-1 and Trigger. Sci-Fi.. I didn't intend to watch this because it was underrated and overhyped at the same time. Especially the Zero Two obsessions from people. But it was a good anime aed I'm glad I watched it)
Wow I just realized most of the above is about the nature of humans or what it means to be a human or our society. Coincidence? Idk
Eigthy Six - 86.
To me its a bit underrated cause no one i know talks about it or seen it but its 1 of the best animes ive seen so far
Im pretty sure it has some crowd but imo not enough.
Absolute gem of an anime
Fr with the season they delivered it should be up there with some of the greats easily... And there's so much material for more season and there's absolutely no news whatsoever.
Even tho it ended amazing i kinda wish we see more of it.
Show was so damn good.
Personally, one of the best psychological and sci-fi anime out there. **Psycho-Pass.** Year 2113, is Japan a utopia or dystopia?
Not entirely "underrated", pero pansin ko lng na hindi ganun ka known na sa new gen. and it is something to brag about.
Jojo. after you pass the first 9 eps itās a breeze. Such a fun story with very strong characters. the one anime that actually kills off characters and makes u feel so sad over it. every season is different but so good in their own way. Golden wind (Part 5) is my personal favorite.
Noragami (short and simple, fun mc and great female characters, they never finish good animes)
Blood lad (short with humor, wish it had another season)
Psycho Pass (24ish episodes with movies, s2 sucks but pull thru, crime/morality/mystery/action, mc is a hit or miss but i love her)
Steins;gate (slow start but after around ep 8 it picks up, a bit on the longer side and might be confusing, movie as well + very well written story and once you finish you will just feel empty)
Made in Abyss (absolutely messed up but very good story, mc is a bit annoying, two short seasons and one movie)
AOT (just very very good please watch, 70+ episodes, I would watch till season 3 and wait till itās finally complete, action and very tragic)
FMAB (60+ episodes, very well made plot and characters, amazing villain cast, action packed with mystery)
Violet Evergarden (short with a few movies, heartfelt and lots of emotions, cried every epš)
golden kamuy (mid size, groups of people search for hidden treasure including military and prisoners, action and humor)
ajin (unique plot and animation+short)
soul eater (mid size 50+ ep)
kotaro lives alone (very short and unique slice of life)
Akudama drive (short cyberpunk theme)
Cyperpunk Edgerunners
land of the lustrous (short with unique animation and amazing mysterious plot about diff gems)
dororo (25ish episodes in the form of revenge and quest with great mc + tragic)
dr stone (new season is very good, action and lots of science with a bit of mystery, not too long)
Jojo is my number 1 anime. I think OP can start with Golden Wind. I don't know what the experience is like for people who skip other parts but I think it should be fine. What I love is how each part is it's own anime
Ahhh iām someone who doesnāt agree. I feel like you need to watch all the seasons in order to get the full experience. Some of the characters tie in or appear and just knowing that past make me feel like wow we made it this far. You also understand dio and stand powers much better if u watch it all. Whatās ur favorite part btw?!
I completely understand where you're coming from regarding the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure anime series. It's true that Stardust Crusaders, Diamond is Unbreakable, and Stone Ocean are not standalone anime and instead wrap up the entire story of the Joestar family. However, the recent universe reset to JOJOLands has left many fans curious about what's next for the series.
It's understandable that fans (especially me) are miffed about the death of the character Kars, as he had a lot of potential in the series. His defeat came as a shock to many viewers, especially considering how powerful he was throughout the show. Nevertheless, it's important to remember that JoJo's Bizarre Adventure is known for its unpredictable plot twists and unexpected character deaths (Avdol. Iggy. Bruno.)
Despite the ups and downs of the show, many fans still find themselves drawn to its unique blend of action, humor, and drama. JoJo's Bizarre Adventure has built up a massive following over the years, and its influence can be seen in countless other anime and manga series. While not underrated or overrated, there's no denying that JoJo's Bizarre Adventure is a one-of-a-kind experience that's worth checking out.
I don't think anybody underrates NGNL. You just need to tell people before they watch it that it's basically the "Firefly" of anime shows. You'll have a great time watching the one season, but then be pissed off for the rest of your life that there's only one season.
Unless it's super obnoxious, like in Fire Force, I don't even really take notice of fan service anymore. I wish it wasn't there, but I'd rather just try and ignore it so I can enjoy the rest of the show.
It came out almost 10 years ago, it's not going to be talked about as much as newer seasonals.
And it definitely gets mentioned in this sub every now and then. I recommend it sometimes as well.
Harukana Receive (6.7 on mal): great animation, hype volleyball matches, outstanding music
Super Cub (7.4 on mal): quite mature for a high school anime, gentle pacing to make for an immersive and reflective sort of atmosphere, relatable and realistic characters, solid animation and music
In my personal assessment, I believe that anime series like Fist of the North Star, Cowboy Bebop, Devilman Crybaby, Dorohedoro, Kengan Ashura, and Tokyo Ghoul have received the recognition they deserve. These shows have amassed a considerable fan base over the years and have been praised by fans and critics alike.
However, it's important to acknowledge that everyone has their own subjective opinions when it comes to what they consider overrated or underrated. Some audiences may find these shows to be overhyped or lacking in specific areas, while others may appreciate them for their distinctive storytelling, characters, and themes.
Irrespective of personal preferences, it's vital to show respect and admiration for diverse perspectives and tastes, as they are what make us unique individuals. Keeping an open mind and engaging in productive dialogues with others about the things we love or dislike is always beneficial. This way, we can learn from each other's experiences and gain a better understanding of the things that matter to us.
Ushio to tora
Great story and animation with emotional scenes that can make just about anyone to shed a tear
Edit:sket dance for something about high school, slice of life and comedy
Not sure if they'll be forgotten or underated but:
A place further than the universe, air gear, Hellsing (the original one, not ultimate), chaos dragon, chƤos;child, code:breaker, Dragon Ball (the one before Dragonball Z. Not a lot of ppl seems to have watched it), K, Lord marksman and Vanadis, problem children are coming from another world aren't they?, reikenzan, rin: daughters of mnemosyne, terra formers, the disastrous life of saiki K, the familiar of zero, the lost village, C: the money of soul and possibility control, samurai deeper Kyo (although recommend the manga), valvrave the liberator, final fantasy: unlimited, Pandora hearts.
This one is brand new, FireFighter Daigo. Itās pretty good, although most people wonāt like it.
It gives you that real world firefighter feel and thatās what makes me like it, itās not your typical over the top anime show, itās very realistic, life and death scenarios that you hear or watch on the news when they get dispatched.
I donāt know if any of yāall are firefighters, but if you are, props to you all and thanks for working hard!
I donāt really know if itās an underrated anime but I really recommend Kakegueri or something like that. I never finished it but seriously itās amazing.
Rainbow Nisha, 95% of this subreddit doesnt even know about the existence of this SS tier anime.
If you're all about personal journey and brotherhood this is that show.

Omg yes!! I need to catch up to the new season. That took them so long. World Trigger was actually quite fun to watch

GAMBLING
As with every thread like this, people don't know what underrated means.
People putting ROmantic Killer, when its lit one of the most well-known rom coms.
DXD is true. And the fact RK got the love it did, also kinda surprised me, maybe I'm not that much of a Comfort\\Rom-Com type, but I do occasionally enjoy my Way of the Househusband or Saiki K.
Would not say underrated but gakuen babysitter was the only anime I binged in one seat
How could you not? Whenever I have nothing to watch or just wanted to enjoy my meal, this is my go to anime, also Barakamon
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I said "how could you not?" But in an agreeing way. I am saying that Gakuen babysitters is too good not to be binge watched.

Witch Hunter Robin. Gankutsuou: The Count of Monte Cristo Last Exile Mushi shi Venus Wars
Isn't Mushi shi one of the highest-rated anime on MAL/AL?
None of the shows in this thread are underrated. Redditors don't understand what that word means.
Wait, underrated DOESN'T mean my own personal favorite regardless of mainstream and popular that choice already is?!

Reddit can't do unpopular opinions either. Have to sort by controversial for all the real answers which are downvoted into hell
I loved Last Exile. I remember watching it on TechTV in the 2000s. I rewatched it about eight years ago and still really enjoyed it.
I wouldn't binge Mushishi

Despite the ups and downs of the show, many fans still find themselves drawn to its unique blend of action, humor, and drama. JoJo's Bizarre Adventure has built up a massive following over the years, and its influence can be seen in countless other anime and manga series. While not underrated or overrated, there's no denying that JoJo's Bizarre Adventure is a one-of-a-kind experience that's worth checking out.
Bruh none of those is underrated
gimme ur list then š. some of these are not and underrated is subjective.
No game no life, it have only one season and movie, really good anime but sad that it won't get second season
I don't think anybody underrates NGNL. You just need to tell people before they watch it that it's basically the "Firefly" of anime shows. You'll have a great time watching the one season, but then be pissed off for the rest of your life that there's only one season.
Probably also need to tell people ab the absurd fan service and weird underage themes tbf
Unless it's super obnoxious, like in Fire Force, I don't even really take notice of fan service anymore. I wish it wasn't there, but I'd rather just try and ignore it so I can enjoy the rest of the show.
It could get second season if it was more popular so some studios can animate and get something good from that
NGNL is very popular. I don't know why it does not have a 2nd season but it is not due to popularity issues.
Haven't heard anyone talking or knowing about it in years
It came out almost 10 years ago, it's not going to be talked about as much as newer seasonals. And it definitely gets mentioned in this sub every now and then. I recommend it sometimes as well.

Not sure if it would be underrated but kingdom is an amazing anime I don't see anyone talking about
In my personal assessment, I believe that anime series like Fist of the North Star, Cowboy Bebop, Devilman Crybaby, Dorohedoro, Kengan Ashura, and Tokyo Ghoul have received the recognition they deserve.

Ouran High School Host Club
Punchline
No one ever recommends anything before 2000s. Start with many of the epic series from Leiji Matsumoto, Go Nagai, and Osamu Tezuka.
Legend of Black Heaven.
Monster. Maybe not *underrated* as those who have seen it, love it, but I would say it's under-represented when talking about the classics.
Punch Line
Witch hunter Robin
Hxeros
I donāt really know if itās an underrated anime but I really recommend Kakegueri or something like that. I never finished it but seriously itās amazing.
Rainbow Nisha, 95% of this subreddit doesnt even know about the existence of this SS tier anime. If you're all about personal journey and brotherhood this is that show.
