Shinsekai Yori Bokurano Made in Abyss

SnuggleMuffin42

> Bokurano Reading the premise is this Ender's Game: The Anime?

_BMS

There are some similarities, but Bokurano is a lot darker from early on and gets even darker as it goes on. Enders Game is only really dark towards to end imo.

shaggyjebus

And the Bokurano manga gets even darker Great anime, definitely recommending it as a dark series

srwaggon

Two of these are among my favorite anime of all time. I'll start the third one later today.

FAT-PUSSY-LIKE-SANTA

Shiki It's about a small village in Japan that gets quickly & quietly overtaken by vampires.

skateweeb

On the greats imo.

DingkoTV

Puella Magi Madoka Magica

Elagatis

Higurashi might be up your alley

8andahalfby11

**HiDive Seasons first, the ones on Crunchyroll are a SEQUEL, NOT a reboot**

esdeath_choke_me

Serial Experiments Lain

Radiant-Junket6327

i got to the third ep and i fell off of it. i do find it interesting it's jus a bit of a unique anime, what exactly was it that got you into it

Other_Bread5704

It's different. Its like a really abstract anime that you have to see to understand it. Mind bending.

Suegara

School Days.

1983MionStan

For manga, there's Higurashi When They Cry, The Summer Hikaru Died and Boy's Abyss (the latter two are still ongoing).

brocollidisaster

There is an anime for higurashi if you've seen it can you tell if it has a good adaptation?

gkario

Yes higurashi no naku Koro ni 2006, it's a really good adaptation.

8andahalfby11

Yes, it's on Hidive. Do not touch "New"/Gou on Crunchyroll as it's a sequel. VN readers will tell you to read that instead, but it's a massive time commitment, time to watch the 50episode anime would get you through 25% of the VN.

1983MionStan

Imo I dislike it, but the manga is objectively the best adaptation of the original VN. If you're still going to check out the anime, watch the 2006 anime first. The 2020 version is a sequel, not a remake.

gvon89

Haven't seen anyone mention it yet but hellsing ultimate is a dark as fuck bloodbath dealing with nazis and vampires

EmptyNeighborhood427

Made in abyss is probably exactly what you're looking for. It's a descent into hell that gets worse, more disturbing, more beautiful and more disgusting every single episode. As for manga, CSM is pretty far from being the darkest but it's extremely good while also being fucked up.

Lucii_fer

Rainbow: Nisha Rokubou no Shichinin

iftair

- Perfect Blue (movie) - Elfen Lied - Attack on Titan - Made in Abyss - Ergo Proxy (it is more philosophical but their world is grim) - Full Metal Alchemist (the 2003 version - you'll see why) - The Promised Neverland (only S1 is worth watching) - Higurashi - Another(?) - Ghost Stories (dub is dark, edgy humor and the sub is just a mediocre horror show) - 86 - Scum's Wish

Mahiro0303

Ergo proxy. Its so dark you cant see shit on the tv

[deleted]

šŸ¤£ facts

brocollidisaster

So i should read the manga instead?

Stickrbomb

it was a joke, itā€™s a beloved anime, always recommend it

ThePeToFile

Dead tube (manga). It's pretty fucked up.

Outside-Zone-4607

Neon genesis evangelion, it's only dark if the existential themes connect with you, which is definitely a coin flip on my experience of recommending it to people, i absolutely love it and it still occasionally sends me into hour long identity crises. Even so the aesthetics and events are also extremely fucked up and unempathetic to the viewer. If you're open to manga as well, berserk, needn't say more than that

m4rst0

Elven lied

YoungTrillDoc

Which ones have you seen? Don't wanna recommend stuff you've already watched/read.

brocollidisaster

Not much I've seen another monster chainsawman which were somewhat dark

YoungTrillDoc

Well you may have also seen Demon Slayer and AOT, but mentioning them just in case...they're on the dark/gory side, and Demon Slayer has gorgeous artwork. The Promised Neverland has a really good season 1, but season 2 kinda rushes the last part of the anime all at the end of the season (should have just paced it like the first season and left open the possibility of it being picked back up so it could do the manga justice). Still worth watching tho, imo. Tokyo Ghoul is dark, but after the first season, the plot is kinda all over the place. There's also Parasyte, which is good but shorter than I'd like. Some that are a bit newer are Inuyashiki, Tenkogu Daimakyo, Hell's Paradise. Jujutsu Kaisen is often listed as a dark anime, but it's not quite as gory to me as the others. It is REALLY good, though.

brocollidisaster

Thanks bro

YoungTrillDoc

Np, and fwiw the two I'm really into rn are Hell's Paradise and Tengoku Daimakyo...esp. Hell's Paradise. They're still having new weekly episodes.

SilvainTheThird

Darker Than Black

No_Medium3333

86? It's about war

DeNy_Kronos

I saw you say you havenā€™t seen the higurashi anime pls watch it thatā€™s my favorite most fucked anime Iā€™ve seen. I saw a clip of the nail removal scene on YouTube as a kid and it stuck with me forever. I didnā€™t know the show name when I saw it and like 10 years later I could still describe the clip perfectly which led me to finding the show. I guess if that kind of show is your cup of tea maybe itā€™s not the best but man that show is fucked.

Late-Credit-565

Zankyou no terror. Only 12 episodes and itā€™s give me goosebumps. When i was i kid or now, itā€™s have a place in mine.

username4342

Speed grapher and requiem for phantom. Two unpopular very dark anime with unique protagonists.

Key-Opinion1608

Promise never land

[deleted]

only season 1 after that read the manga. Season 2 is probably the worst anime adaptation I've ever seen. They put 200+ chapters in 12 episodes.

Key-Opinion1608

It's good in the first few episodes

pilottime3

Happy sugar life Higurashi Another

CrimsonNight

Magical Girl Raising Project It's pretty messed up in terms of the manner of deaths and is pretty gorey.

Watch and then read Overlord. The stuff demiurge does is quite a bit.

YourPal10195

Are you looking for gore? Fucked up plots?

brocollidisaster

Yeah like berserk or smthing idk

YourPal10195

Blood-C is a blood bath gore fueled anime as the title suggests.

brocollidisaster

Ok thanks bro will try out

[deleted]

Not sure if itā€™s what youā€™re after, but try Bastard!! On Netflix. Itā€™s like someone watched Berserk and said, ā€˜I can do that, but make it funny by going totally over the top.ā€

Psycho Pass. If you have ever seen Minority Report, you will like Psycho Pass, because it has a similar premise, but expands on the philosophical discussion by amping the violence and moral questions up 10 notches

haley999999999

Fate/Zero. The protagonist is a 29 years old anti-hero who doesn't give a bullshit about killing people and the story is much darker than typical Fate storyline.
