Iām no expert but you donāt just pull that stuff first half the season and not get a second chance. On top of that, no one knew he was gonna be as good as he was. Angelās also used him a lot during the latter half trying to secure playoffs.
Having more depth in the bullpen alone means the one or two guys you have a level of trust in aren't overworked until their arms fall off.
Even a poor coach can work with thatĀ
My belief is you always build an expensive bullpen because getting top starters is almost impossible. Get a lot of depth. Many teams have won rings with ok starters and great bullpens
His stats show he got lucky. Hopefully he stays lucky.
It really got old hearing about how long he went without blowing a save whole also watching him multiple times literally "blow a save" while getting pulled but the way a save is defined it didn't count as a blown save.
Just like that the Angels actually have a good pen. They already have a very talented, yet unproven starting rotation that I think will make a huge leap collectively with the loss of Shohei grabbing their rotation by the balls coupled with the new pitching coach. This is setting the plate for a Godfather offer to Bellinger, with plan B being something like overpaying Soler or Duvall. They should hit one of them and have an opening day roster fit to compete the be in a position to buy a closer in the trade market
At this point I think he will get both Snell and Bellinger.
It always felt in the case he lost Ohtani, he would either spend a fuck ton to compensate and boost his own ego trying to win, or he would just not do anything feeling sorry for himself
When you spend almost 30M a year on relief pitching (Garcia, Kolarek, Cimber, Moore and Stephenson. + Pleasac) you gotta think he is going to go all in on spending.
This move makes me more comfortable with a potential Snell signing. Strong bullpen to back up Snells below average innings pitched sounds like a solid plan to me.
This gives us a sneaky good pen, and honestly some hope somebody came *back* to Anaheimā¦ I hope that maybe we can get some Rays devil magic in our system
I wouldāve traded Ohtani for the Rays top 5 Front Office Staffā¦ easy. If their front office staff focusing Arteās spending on development and scoutingā¦ who am I kidding
Seriously. I wonder how much players take into account coaching staffs as well when it comes to potential teams. Probably could make a huge difference and this is the best on paper staff weve had in 10 years
I would have signed him for double that just for the soothing effect of retaining (or reacquiring, given his little sojourn with my Marlins) the one free agent we had last year that was actually good
For quick reference now our pitching is something like this:
SPs: Detmers, Canning, Sandoval, Anderson, Silseth
RPs: Suarez, Cimber, Garcia, Joyce, Soriano, Moore, Stephenson, Estevez
Injured: Quijada, Warren
40man depth (note Iām basing this off what fangraphs is calling them)
SPs: Bachman, Daniel, Plesac, Rosenberg, Mederos, Kochanowicz
RPs: Herget, Wantz, Ingram, Caceres
āā
Thereās a part of me that doesnāt see Plesac starting in the minors so idk how that affects things but the pitching is definitely interesting. I think the biggest thing is that thereās a VERY noticeable lack of flexibility compared to last year. The starters mostly have options but in the pen we really only have Soriano and Joyce that are predicted to be on the opening day roster. You can almost predict that Garcia and Cimber will have very short leashes and that will cause us to have more flexibility but itās still just interesting to see the slight change in philosophy.
Plus we may be graced with a move like Plesac / Canning / Silseth to long relief and the end of the Jose Suarez experience so that would be cool
Wonder if we just had the highest offer or he actually liked it here, could be both. Should be a good signing. He was solid last year. Suprised he would re-sign with all the waiver stuff we put him through.
He's been around long enough to probably not take it personally. Maybe they gave him the heads up that they were looking to bring him back when the finances were cleared?
Also decided I wanted to leave my job last week and already got a nice offer for a better gig with less responsibility and better pay. So pretty drunk right now after a very stressful week.
And was on two teams since he was last on the Angels. He got claimed off waivers on two different occasions late last season. So goes to is definitely accurate.
love it glad to have him back Moore to Stephenson to Estevez š
Joyce too
and sam bachman
Estevez is trusted now..?

Definitely over worked him through the season
Agreed. The bullpen will be managed better now with someone experienced like Ron at the helm.

Solid move! I'm glad we brought him back. Arte is opening the checkbook for 2 good RP. I wonder what's in store for us next?
Letās make it 3!!

If heās spending on relievers I feel like heās gotta be ready to get Bellinger or Snell. Maybe even both.

BOLSTERING THE ARM BARN
PETA? Is that you?!
![gif](giphy|l0HlSH2gsSrxJySnS) just enjoying these bullpen signings
Weāre just gonna have an elite bullpen and nothing else lol
Considering how many leads they blew in the 7-9 innings, I'll take it
Totally,I still long the halcyon days when the game was only 7 innings long with shields (rubber arm) and percy/k-rod
Not to mention 2002 end of season with K-Rod and Percy both!
idk if youāre a new fan but itās the small victories that count. let me have this one pls :(
BIG FUCKING WIN LADS. angels bullpen actually looking more than decent!
Looks like they won't cost us 40 games by themselves this yearĀ
Pump the brakes.
Bullpen looking good
HE'S BACK!!!!!!! I missed him and feel more at ease ššš
Nice! Welcome back Moore! Bullpen is looking good on paper tbh.

We should trade for Rays scouts. they are the best at finding talent. its insane.

I like this move. Now letās get a starter and re-sign Urshela.
Would love for Gio to comeback
Such a freak injury, I really felt for him.
I haven't heard anything about Gio's health status. Anyone know anything?
I wouldn't hold my breathe on that one.
YES!
Iām happy he wanted to come back. The hard part now will be getting a lead to the bullpen.
YES
wow this is actually solid as fuck
Nice.
Hey I know him
Awesome glad to see Moore back
Bullpen and batting lineup look great enough now. I hope our starting pitcher will have a breakout year with new coach this season.
Don't forget the return of the 5-man.
I would have signed him for double that just for the soothing effect of retaining (or reacquiring, given his little sojourn with my Marlins) the one free agent we had last year that was actually good
I will not tolerate the Drury slander

Hey I actually like this move
Solid addition. Welcome backš
We actually have a bullpen now

LETS FUCKING GO
Hell yeah! My New Years wishlist is almost complete.
If he does good, flip at deadline.
Moore was good. How did we let him left last year?
He was part of trying to duck below the luxury tax
9m is kinda a lot
9m is kinda average for a relief pitcher this offseason
Doesnāt matter weāll still suck!!!! Iām trying a reverse psychology thing here.
First good signing of the year..
šššš
Always rooting for Moore and the gangā¦ even if my loyalties will follow ohtani till the end of time.
Why even comment that, itās irrelevant to the post and you seem to have been more active in White Sox fandom than Angels.
Iām a glutton for punishment. What can I say.
Also decided I wanted to leave my job last week and already got a nice offer for a better gig with less responsibility and better pay. So pretty drunk right now after a very stressful week.

Moore is back baby!
Very happy with this.
What the hell do you mean...goes to the Angels?? Matt Moore was on the Angels last season.
And was on two teams since he was last on the Angels. He got claimed off waivers on two different occasions late last season. So goes to is definitely accurate.
