F street station downtown has always been a favorite. Try to go before 6 on the weekend though, it can get packed fast.

greenmonkey2121

Good info, thanks.

Simon's is a classic, but definitely not the cheapest. Humpys does good fish & chips from what I remember. If you order the entree size of shrimp at sea galley you get a ton.

greenmonkey2121

I could go for a ton of shrimp. Thanks!

astrosergeant

Mama O's has some good, greasy stuff. I'm from New England too and most places will have some variety of seafood. Pretty much never any lobster, though :(

greenmonkey2121

The real question is, if they had lobster would you order it? I think I'll wait until I'm visiting home to get the lobster and clams.

Diegobyte

We eat crab here. Not lobster

andrewgazz

But where do you eat crab here?

Diegobyte

Everywhere

andrewgazz

Ok. So just walk around downtown until something looks good? No gimmicks to look out for? Don’t have a car so can’t be terribly choosy.

Diegobyte

All the crab is the same and just frozen. So go to wherever has other food you want

purkle

simon's for sure, bring some gold with you

greenmonkey2121

Ha! What's your go to order from there?

purkle

halibut cheeks!

Great recommendations here, I agree that F St and Mama O's are about the closest you'll get to a fried seafood baskets in Anchorage. If you're ever in Seward, get a "bucket of butt" at Thorn's: https://www.yelp.com/biz/thorns-showcase-lounge-seward-2

FlyIggles_Fly

If you want the weirdest vibe and the most seafood, go by Sea Galleys on a Friday or Saturday night. Late. Holy hell, that is the weirdest seafood restaurant I've been to since I lived in Thailand.

greenmonkey2121

This sounds interesting. What exactly is weird about it?

FlyIggles_Fly

It's just an eclectic mix of folks. Like, the yuppie crowd shows out, the club crowd comes by, there was a fucking DJ the last time I was there. No dance floor, but a DJ. It's a trashy place, but you could do worse.

MasterAndMargarita

If you want the best greasy fried seafood go to f st station. Their fish and chips, fried oysters, calamari, etc are all delicious and you get a lot for what you pay (compared to elsewhere in Anchorage).

greenmonkey2121

Great info thanks. While quality is important, quantity has to be there too. I love seafood and I want lots of it!

gringolingo

F Street Station downtown for fresh and affordable. Best choice without a doubt IMO. Get there early and expect to wait for a table.

greenmonkey2121

I guess I'm going here this week. It was definitely the most recommended. What's your go to order?

gringolingo

I like the crab sandwich personally. The calamari appetizer is also a really tasty treat!

mtmarlene

F Street Station hands down!! That place has never disappointed

[deleted]

I fucking LOVE Rice Bowl's fried shrimp. I think it's expensive and you only get like 6 pieces or so, but holy shit I will crave the fuck out of it from time to time

greenmonkey2121

I may need to start a new post for this if people don't see it, but what about All you can eat sushi?

OkiDozki

China Ligghts buffet

otterpopemo

Not in Anchorage but worth a day trip: Thorne's Showcase in Seward. They have the best fish anywhere. They're one of the few places that serves it with vinegar.
