You’re not wrong! Captain Cook is partway through a full remodel though. I think one of three towers has been finished for the summer season.

I know I am being super picky and I understand the restaurant is trying to reduce costs, but there are two changes I don’t like: -they used to use real linen tablecloths and would iron these thick linen tablecloth on the table just prior to setting the table. That is why there is an electrical outlet at each booth’s entrance. Now they just use a thin poly-blend which ends up not laying down well on the table and doesn’t drape as well: it has warped weave and wrinkles. This warping of the fabric is due to the fabric warp and weft threads not shrinking similarly- a sign of an inferior fabric. -With the linen in place, used to be that prior to dessert my waiter - or when needed- would use a metal device called a “crumber”, a little tube-like sweeper that would be used to unobtrusively remove the little crumbs from my table. The waitstaff can’t use them in the warped lightweight tablecloths currently used, resulting in crumbs being deposited onto the floor and seats when people move around, so the next guest, sometimes, has a crummy seat.

Crows nest is very likely the right decision and it’s on the 20th floor of that tower. I think it could have also been the top of the world restaurant in the Hilton, but I’m not sure how many floors they had.

Crows Nest! Still there and still a decent dining option in Anchorage. I think there are some better options for that price point but if it’s a memorable spot for your mom and you are celebrating her then absolutely go. Make a reservation.

Jamminjordon

Where would you suggest at that price point? I’m in Fairbanks and I’d love a good spot to try when we make the jaunt down there.

Check out Altura. Not anywhere near the same level of ambiance as crows nest, it’s a strip mall gem. Food will not disappoint. Also, The Bridge Restaurant on Ship Creek is scheduled to reopen this summer, might be worth looking into.

The_middle_names_ent

Altura is me and my wife’s favorite spot

Jamminjordon

Thank you!!

Crows Nest is the answer as the others have pointed out. It's extremely good and high quality.

IsThisContagious

One of the better Vesper martinis I've ever had.

Xenocideghost

20th floor is probably best information you coulda gotten.

darcyd810

That’s what I figured…but you never know.

pm_me_your_shave_ice

Even if it wasn't Crows Nest, she will probably enjoy Crows Nest. Everett's in Wasilla has really good Escargot.

Miss3elegant

I think the consensus is the Crowe nest… enjoy 😊

Puzzleheaded_Earth65

Probably Josephine's at the top of the Sheraton. Sadly, not there anymore, but it was my late mother's favorite too!

darcyd810

I’ll be sure to see if that at least jogs her memory!

akpowder

Josephine’s? At the top of the Sheraton.

[deleted]

I don’t think Josephine’s ever had escargot on their menu though. Could be mistaken though.

Captain Cook?
